[Edgar Cayce; Hugh Lynn Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 2:05 to 2:20 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [325]; this we have had before, and those conditions, circumstances, physically and mentally, that surround the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Reading said to take fruit and meat juices. They cause overactivity of bowels. What will regulate it? (A) Taking them in a more consistent manner, and not quantities of same - and these in their regular order, not attempting to take both at one meal nor in large quantities. As to the matter of diet, we find it would be as we have suggested, in this manner:
Mornings - rather an oaten cereal, or fruit juices that are chilled, in not too large a quantity, or fruit juices; as the combinations of pineapples, oranges, grapefruit, lemons, grape juice or the like - these also chilled, but not with cereals. Browned bread, either the whole wheat, Graham or rye, toasted. Not too heavy, but that which carries the greater quantity of the active principles of the vitamins iron from those properties.
Between the breakfast and the noon, take beef juices; not other than that which has been indicated. NOT broth, but beef juices - made as we have indicated - not more than half or a quarter teaspoonful at a time.
Noons - any of the drinks that have been indicated, such as chilled champagne, the apricot brandy, a little apple brandy (not Apple Jack but apple brandy) - these will be an aid to the cough. Then the semiliquids, such as in junket, blanc mange, arrowroot, or the like.
Evenings - preferably the vegetable juices that would be made from fresh vegetables, if they are cooked in Patapar paper or steamed in their own juice and no water added; not with meats or the like, in their cooking. To such there may be added the croutons or the diced bread that makes for the thickening of same, or the like.
-
(Q) What causes temperature to rise and fall so suddenly? (A) Inflammation from the disturbances in the intestinal area, from those reactions in the system. If we would use a diluted GRAIN alcohol as a rub it will be more efficacious for the reducing of the temperature. And when the rubs are made these should be not only at the back of head but across the hip and the small of back; not too heavy, but a GENTLE rub. The massage that has been indicated, that has been GIVEN, this is very good - very well given.
-
(Q) Will the alcohol rub as suggested upset her stomach? (A) It’s the inhaling of the fumes of the denatured alcohol that upsets her! Hence use the diluted grain alcohol, and it won’t be upset!
-
(Q) Could body stand the trip to Jersey - at [daughter [459]]‘s? (A) Very soon, by Thursday or Friday, be very well. And be much better than inhaling the fumes of the circumstances and conditions around the apartment here! Be necessary, of course, that the body keep quiet - and be just as gentle in the change as is possible.
-
(Q) What will offset the paint condition in her system? (A) Get out of it! Fresh air!
-
(Q) What causes the heart palpitations at times? (A) The fumes. Conditions about the body.
-
(Q) What should be done for the weakness of the heart? (A) Remove the conditions of the circumstances surrounding same, and this will be near normal!
-
(Q) Is the condition in the right breast pressing against anything causing any of the present condition? (A) As indicated, the condition in the breast is irritated, of course, by the excitement of the circulation and the changes; but not pressure on any condition.
-
(Q) There is a piece of flesh at the base of rectum. What is it and how may it be removed? (A) It is a hemorrhoid condition. Use Tim and it will be removed.
-
(Q) Is that the cause of the occasional soreness in the rectum? (A) Cause of the occasional soreness.
-
(Q) What should be done for the sudden chills? (A) A stimulant, or a massage with the GRAIN alcohol.
-
(Q) What can be done to induce sleep for the body? (A) Use the Radio-Active Appliance, it will induce sleep for the body; or the gentle massage along the spine, GENTLY, coming up to the head and around same, will induce sleep.
-
(Q) Why the sudden coughs? What will stop them? (A) Regurgitation in the stomach. And, as indicated, use those properties indicated.
-
(Q) Have my new glasses been fitted properly? (A) These are very good, and when the conditions clear and the surroundings are more applicable to the needs of the body, the eyes will be found to be better.
-
(Q) Why the bitterness in the mouth and what will stop it? (A) A condition that arises from gastric flow of the stomach itself. This will be removed by the use of properties indicated.
-
(Q) Do the teeth need attention? (A) Need attention, but should not be done at present. In two to three weeks.
-
(Q) Were the massages taken Monday night when I was so sick given properly? (A) As indicated, very good.
-
(Q) Will it be necessary for me to move from this apartment this year? (A) It’ll be better, as we find, to visit; not necessary to move.
-
(Q) Will the suggestions as given keep the bowels normal? (A) Normal.
-
(Q) What causes the body to get purple? (A) Circulation is being disturbed through the congestion of blood in those areas where distressed, and the body being subject to an activity that brings about the reactions from suggestive forces, produces these conditions. The massage and the stimulation will make for equalizing the circulation, as would also the use of the Radio-Active Appliance.
-
(Q) Is the Ash being taken properly? (A) Taken properly.
-
(Q) Are the lamp treatments being given properly? (A) Very good. Keep these up.
-
(Q) Any other suggestions for the body for better physical conditions? (A) Keep the attitude of the expectancies for those relationships in regard to the material and spiritual forces, and we will keep the greater balance for this body, [325].

We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/14/34 Son [257]‘s ltr.: “Just a few hurried lines to tell you what happened. Mother was so very ill that I felt we had better call in a doctor. I told him of the readings and what they had done for her - and then the second reading came and he read it and agreed with it and said he was now very anxious to meet you. He is an elderly man and a very fine doctor with wonderful standing and a man we need very much in our work here. He is located on the East side of town and enjoys the best practice in America.
“Well, I am glad to say that she is not vomiting any more and that she begins to take food, but is very, very weak and downcast. She thought she was finished, but never loses faith in you. Your letter came in good time, as it was just before she took sick.
“I had Reilly [Harold J. Reilly, Ph. T.] up and gave her a massage and I got the Wine and all the other things that you mentioned.”
R2. 10/15/34 EC’s ltr.: “Dear Mother [325]: Certainly sorry to know that you have been having such a time. I’m hoping and believing, though, that this will find you considerably on the improve. I’m sure the gas pains have been from an acid condition, and that the nausea is somewhat allayed. If you will use a little elm water, which is made with the pinch of elm in a glass of water (it being stirred in same - don’t drink too much, of course, but a glass will last at least half a day without souring), it will relieve this condition. And have them also make you a little Saffron tea. This can be kept for a day or so. Take a sip of it occasionally. You will find these two things will relieve the gas pains and prevent other things from forming this troublesome condition. I would use also all the Olive Oil that you can assimilate, but don’t let them give you more than ten or twelve drops at a time. This will make for the gastric juices becoming so much better in your system that you will have little or no trouble from now on.
“This should regulate the bowel condition a great deal more. I’m afraid they have been tending to give you too much of the beef juice at a time. There shouldn’t be more than a teaspoonful at any time, and it would be much better to be half a teaspoonful. It is true that this tends to make the gastric juices work more regularly in your system, but that’s what you need to get rid of those conditions that produce the nausea as well as the irritations caused by the gas and acid.
“It may be the same reason why the concentrated vegetable juices burn; that they have given you too much at once. It’s better that you be given a spoonful every half hour to an hour, rather than taking a big swallow two or three times a day.”
R3. 10/15/24 EC’s ltr. to her son [257]: “Have yours of the 14th, and I’m writing Mother [325] - and answering, I think, most of the questions and things that will be necessary right now. I hope so anyway. I’m sure you appreciate that I’m not trying to shirk anything by not taking the reading for this, but only you possibly can imagine just how busy we’ve been since being here [D.C.]. And every single period has been taken - Sundays just like any other day. And though I may look young and healthy, it certainly does something, as you very well know, to the body, to keep going. I’ve got to be home a few days before coming on to N.Y., so will be here until next Sunday, or intend to leave Monday morning. So, when you get this, if you feel it would be better to have something in a reading, don’t hesitate to drop me a wire and let me know. For I’d put off anything else if necessary… She has that formula, [257], for drying the condition on the breast [the plantain], and I believe, as she has told me before, each time she has ever used it, it has stopped the condition from spreading, almost immediately. And I feel very sure it will do it again.”
R4. 10/17/34 Son’s [257] ltr. to EC: “I have your letter to hand and also read the one you wrote to Mother. I believe it covered the situation very well and therefore I did not write for another reading…she is better tonight - the breast - I saw for the first time - it has healed and I believe as does the doctor that it is an exterior matter. As for the inside of her body - it was worry that came at meal time about some Jersey matter [See R5 below]. The doctor gave mother confidence - she had taken all the medicine that you had given and she was on the improve - except that she felt that her heart would jump out and she could not relax as she could not sleep but with the wine - the brandy - the cordial - the liquids food and a mixture that the Doctor gave her Monday she slept and today she is up for a while and I believe she is on the road to recovery but I had almost felt she was finished - but we fought and with your help we saved her again. She never allowed anyone to know of the condition and hence no doctor ever saw it - this doctor saw it and verified all that you had said and consoled her on the bitterness and heart and etc. and she began to get better quickly. Many thanks to you again and Mother will write as soon as she can. You will have a good friend in Dr. Hauswirth…
“Mother prays for you all the time, as we all do, and I know the prayers are heard.”
R5. 10/18/34 Daughter [459]‘s ltr. [from New Jersey]: “Your reading helped Mother quite a bit. She is still very weak and I do feel that this time she is just as spiritually sick. Does not seem to catch hold.”
R6. 10/21/34 Son’s ltr. to EC: ”… Mother is still very very weak but eating and retaining her food and also resting better at the present time. If time permits and you can ask the one question - how she can regain her strength and whether she is progressing properly - we would be very happy…”
R7. 10/27/34 Son’s ltr. to EC: ”…Mother is better and I believe her chest is healing nicely…”
R8. 10/29/34 Daughter [460]‘s letter: “Just a few lines to let you know how Mother is getting along. Of course you know how grateful we are for your attention to her. As usual Cayce remedies proved the best…
“[257] suggested that I ask you for a ck.-up on Mother before you leave for N.Y., as he says you will be very busy while here. She feels so very weak and faint and I wondered just what we can do about it. She eats very well but doesn’t feel any stronger. Perhaps a tonic could be suggested. I hesitate to try just any tonic because of her previous nauseous spells.”
