This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, this 3rd day of October, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - through mother, Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [3008], and others.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [3258].

3. In giving the interpretations of the records here, we find there are many phases of the entity’s experiences in the earth. The abilities and the adaptability of the entity to environ and circumstance are to be considered. For there are two ways, - yea three, - in which the entity may make a real success in the material and in the mental. There are at least two ways in which the entity may make the real mental and spiritual successes in this experience.

4. Thus we would chose from the records here that which may be helpful in enabling the entity to choose aright, and that which may enable it to better fulfill the purposes for which it entered this earthly sojourn.

5. Astrologically we find Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus with Uranus, bringing or making for better opportunities for the entity in enabling itself to set itself for those channels of opportunity.

6. Whatever choice is made in the entity’s experience, do have at least one year of reading law; for this will temper the entity in it conclusions and better fit it for whatever choice is made as to its material activities.

7. We find Mars making for a very positive, active life. One that may never succeed in working for someone else. One that should choose some activity, vocation or choice of expressing self from an individual angle, or working or establishing a business or a profession working by itself.

8. In Mercury we find the high mental abilities. And with Mars we find the entity would make a good historian, whether of economical conditions or political or the combined effort in relation to the ministerial interest and inclination. But if entering the ministry, let it be for a missionary activity.

9. With the abilities, whatever field is chosen, the entity may contribute to the history, or a recording of the history of that portion of the country with which the entity is identified; not as of self alone, but that also of the whole tempo, as well as the whole ideals of the ruling groups of any such land with which the entity may be identified. Not the history only of that endeavor in which the entity might be engaged, then, but the country or place or certain portions of the religious, the moral, as well as the social and physical activities of such a land.

10. In Jupiter we find these benevolent forces, making for this inclination of the entity toward some particular group, or sect, or those that would be representatives of some organized effort of communications as would relate to the laws, as would relate to the contributions such a group or place might make to the whole - whether from the standpoint of the historian or as a leader of a group that would consider the moral, the economic, the physical conditions of such groups or such undertakings.

11. We find in Uranus the extremes, as well as that in the emotional side of the entity’s experience in the earth at this particular period. In the activities in such, keep self free then as much as practical for such studies, such communications as would enable the entity to fulfill the purposes towards data for a group, a religious sect, or a united effort on the part of the combined influences of many; as an individual seeking not the limelight so much as to be the means of assistance in a mental and spiritual way to any particular group.

12. As to the appearances of the entity in the earth, while quite varied these - with the analysis of same - may make for a better understanding in the spirit of the entity of that for which it has entered this present sojourn:

13. Before this in the name Harold Zanda, the entity was a contributor to the welfare of a young nation, or the young peoples of quite a group in the environs of the present nativity.

14. Consequently, follow these. Study them. Analyze self in relationships to every phase of any understating. And as we find the study or analysis of self, as well as the study of those things pertaining to national and international relationships, should have a natural attraction for the entity in its acting in the capacity of not merely the go between - not at all; rather in that line of thought as would indicate that God is no respector of persons, but of the manner in which individuals approach that throne of grace and mercy and peace.

15. Before that the entity was in the English land where preparations were wont to be made for what afterwards came to be known as the Holy War.

16. The entity was active in the establishing or setting up of various routines or formulas.

17. These in the present may bring a greater joy in living, a greater harmony in the experiences that may be held to or directed from the experiences of that sojourn during the early years of this sojourn.

18. We find those abilities as to books, to book knowledge, arise from that sojourn; just as those activities would make the entity very sincere, especially in its dealings with the meting out of physical things that would pertain to the physical welfare of individuals.

19. But should this be the choice of the entity, make itself felt in the problems of those about the entity in any way, form or manner; especially as an advisory counsel in many ways. Interpreting and knowing those activities will bring the greater opportunities. And with greater opportunities, more is required of self.

20. The name then was Juano. The entity gained.

21. Then apply thy birth-right from same in meeting the problems of today.

22. Before that the entity was in the Roman land during those periods when there was just the beginning of the persecution of the great numbers that had been drawn to those activities in which Peter spoke to great numbers or hordes as they were called in that particular period.

23. The applying of self in those tenets of that period will be well. And none may be found better than the Book itself, especially in the study of the admonitions first to that who was saved by the ark of the convenant. Study these thoroughly and apply that thou findest to be good in the present. For these are well to live by as well as to die by.

24. But these have brought and do bring periods of seeking justification of that chosen to be done. Let thy yeas be yea, thy nays be nay in every activity; know, that you will meet these as ye apply yourself in the lessons taught in that particular period there in such a short time.

25. The name then was Pheres, and the entity was close to those that had the directions of the early church; not only in that particular phase of its service but throughout the whole activity of the life.

26. From same keep, then, those ideals - keeping oft in prayer and meditation, - either in medicine or in surgery, whatever the activity that may be chosen from that particular period as fit in the present.

27. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, as a detainer in those spheres of being somewhat less than able to handle self at the particular period of its unfoldment and development.

28. Owing to the situations, choose for self its vocation in the present. But do become a contributor to three phases - yea, write a whole book of self and its ability to make for so many changes, or so many environs in which the entity may fit itself for such a service.

29. The name then was Ar-Texn-Owi. The entity worked hardships as well as aggravating itself, owing to the attempts to analyze, in the light of that which might have been given to others, what had been set for self. This may be found to be well, but the entity through that experience joined in those activities to make for a better place for self as well as others, as they drew up the activities which enabled groups individually to report to or consider the whole activity as a united effort as well as individual; loss and less of the self, more and more of the God-force making manifest.

30. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain and how:

31. As am historian, as a writer; not of fiction but of that which is the true relationship established, as may be kept up in this particular experience.

32. Keep in that way if ye would find the better answers to thyself within thyself. Seek to know which direction ye would take, and whether a physician or a specialist or as one just contributing to the material welfare, keep close to those that speak oft with God.

33. The abilities are manifested as a doctor, as a nurse, - better still, as a director in those activities that would have to do with the helpful experiences for those who have grown weary in a sin-sick world.

34. Keep the faith and apply self in His vineyard.

36. (Q) Am I following the right profession in entering premedical college or should I follow the ministry? (A) This might be well.

As indicated for the entity, a wonderful historian may the entity become - as well as a success in whatever service the entity may undertake; whether in the ministry, in the activity as a physician. Whatever the choice, let it be in the Law of the Lord.

37. (Q) In taking one year of law, what branch should I study? (A) International law.

38. (Q) Will my poor eyesight prevent my serving in the Army, and what suggestions can be made for correcting my vision and a nervous tendency? (A) It will unless there is sought some special mission or special service activity.

The activities that bring into play the muscles of the head and neck will increase the eyesight, or better the eye disturbance.

39. (Q) What is my mission on earth at this time? (A) That all shall be done to the glory of God and to the honor of self and thy neighbors.

40. (Q) Shall I continue my work as an apprentice pharmacist after school hours or accept work as an orderly in a hospital? Which will be most beneficial? (A) Accept work as an orderly.

41. (Q) Is cigarette smoking injurious to me, and how may I break the habit? (A) Make up your mind that you’ll quit. This is not injurious, done in moderation. But as indicated, in most everything the body does it is all out of proportion to that belonging to the strength and vitality of the body.

42. (Q) What is to be my part-war work in serving humanity? (A) This should be in Special Service.

43. (Q) In what way may I best help my mother, […]? (A) The greater help here can be in keeping her within the bonds of thinking first things first.

44. (Q) My father, […]? (A) These are very well in the present but the best help can be done by lending thyself to some definite activity - whether in law or as the historian, or the means of preparation for same.

Do that.

R1. 10/8/43, Friday Eve., Mother’s letter to EC:

My dear Edgar Cayce:

Thank you for the analysis which came today. Needless to say we were all thrilled, especially [3258]. You have verified every statement I have ever uttered regarding his birth path. Mrs. […] says [3258] is on the “Christ” path and truly your revelation of his past “soul” experiences, verify that:

I prayed for him for 13 years and when he came I dedicated him to God and service for humanity, so you seen how beautifully my prayers have been answered.

Everyone feels he is a missionary at heart, and, as I have watched him unfold in his relations to humanity, and witnesses the deep esteem, that young and old have for him, I realize MY mission was to prepare myself for this unusual soul, and I thank God He felt I was worthy to be entrusted. [3258] has often said, “Mother, you are the only really intelligent person I know, because you understand me so perfectly,” which caused me to nearly convulse with laughter, (not in his presence however) so sincere and direct was he: I must tell you that from 2.30 to 4.30 on Oct. 3rd [3258] went into a room, and prayed and meditated - I stayed with him the first hour; he was so eager to cooperate in everyway. Did you sense this?

Already he has followed the exercises suggested for his eyes and been benefited.

Just tonight he contacted a friend, who is an orderly in Billings hospital, and is now making arrangements for [3258] to come. This, he can do after school, from 3 to 7 - and have his Sundays off. He loves to attend Church, and this he had to forego while in the drug store. So you see, already the law of suggestion, (as indicated in your “Reading”) is operating. He is very receptive.

[3258]‘s father is a lawyer, but we never felt [3258] had a legal mind, he is more of an idealist and philosopher, but if a year at Law will help him, he shall have that, along with his medical course. He is very eager to follow thru, to the letter, every suggestion that came thru.

Of course, my hope is, that he shall become a medical missionary, for I feel after this war is over, there will be great need for such services.

[3258] is concerned about my heart, and felt a little disappointed that no suggestion came as a remedy, but I assured him that I, as a person, could not be incorporated…

R2. 11/9/43 [3258]‘s Mother’s letter:

Dear Edgar Cayce:

As I read and re-read [3258]‘s “Life Reading”, I am more and more impressed with the truth of your analysis. He sees now, that the study of religious history is the most important thing in his life, and is willing to forsake everything else for it: As a historian he will excel, and the missionary field is for him, rather than the study of medicine. This, I have always believed, but his father wanted him to study medicine, so, in order to be a dutiful son he agreed, but I knew all the time where [3258]‘s interest really lay, and your Reading verified it. We talked for hours, the other day and I was amazed at his knowledge of Chaucer, the Reformation and the Renaissance period, the eagerness with which he reads his Bible (everyday) proves everything you have said as to his former incarnations. He is a great soul.

I allowed him to discontinue his studies (pre-medical) for his heart was not in it, and I trust he may be able to come to Virginia Beach some time this winter.

R3. 11/23/43 Mother’s letter to EC:

Dear Edgar Cayce:

Thank you for your informative letter; and the Bulletin news. I think it is very wonderful to share this news, with all the troubled souls in the world. It means so much to all seekers for “Truth”.

Must tell you that truly a “guiding Hand” took charge of [3258], and almost immediately he was given a place as orderly in … hospital, which is connected with the …

I appreciated his plea that he be allowed to have a year to study people and life outside of books; so permitted him to leave Wilson College with the the promise that next fall he would resume his studies. His knowledge of Religious history is amazing, we talked until 5:45 one morning as to his plans for the future. We were so absorbed neither one of us realized the time. I realized I was listening to a great soul talk. Now that he was literally pushed into this work at … in a very curious way - details too lengthy to record here - he seems to feel perhaps, after all he is destined to become a healer of mankind. Immediately, he was given work in the operating room, to assist the doctors. The head nurse seemed to sense his ability to handle patients, so he did not go thru the months of training in the more menial service an orderly is first assigned to. He said, he was learning more in this practical experience than years in college would give him…

R4. 3/9/48 Extract form Ivamay Dennewill’s letter:

“I should have included in my last letter this item…it concerns [3258], the son of Mrs. […]. I believe you [H. L.] know her, and her son. He is an eye doctor; cannot recall if he does the whole job pertaining to glasses, or only the prescription, or some part, but just the same, he is in business, trying to make a living in the business concerned with eye-glasses.

“He asked me if I knew or believed there was much information in the Ass’n files concerning eye troubles and their correction. Remembering your need for spectacles, I told him I felt certain there was such material, but on what angles, couldn’t say.

“It is necessary for him to wear glasses with quite heavy lens. With none, ordinary print must be held at least two inches from his eyes.

“However, repeatedly, under some phase or degree of hypnosis (not only with the Mr. Arturo Fellico whom his mother and her group ‘studied’ with or under, but in a school, university in Denver, I believe, or at least in a university), said he had been the subject ‘over 100 times’; he could remove his spectacles, and with no mechanical aid whatsoever could read very fine print with no extra effort. The conclusion he draws is that if the method could be found, he could dispense with his spectacles after a treatment of some sort. He has been told there is a distortion of the physical eyeball; but if so, it would need to be of a size that would protrude from his skull in the back, which refutes such a conclusion.

“He didn’t know how to ask to secure what you might have in the Ass’n material, that would or might relate to his condition; that has given rise to my being the correspondent in other matters in the group, also; so I hope you are not prejudiced when one of my letters appears in the mail, and wonder what task I am scheming up for you, now?

“In Dr. [3258]‘s behalf, can you furnish any material on treating eyes, to improve sight? Is there such material? Is that matter able to be segregated, without extreme difficulty? What specific questions do you need answered to aid in selection of material, if it is to be had?

“Since he’s attempting to wrench a living from his work as ‘eye man’ (prescribing spectacles, I presume), perhaps he could be of value to you in securing data as to the value of suggested treatment in your files. Would this angle be of interest to you?

“I presume he can be reached thru his mother’s mailing address: Dr. [3258], …, Ill.

“It would be smoother to seek definite information from him; mention I wrote in his behalf. We discussed it, the Sunday Bill Weldon was present, and we had such seemingly, lucrative results, with me I mean. I just hope we can try again, and I can be of real service; and that the effects of hypnosis and personal psychic development can be segregated.”

R5. 5/16/49 Report by his mother to GD: “His life reading rang so true. When he was a little boy he didn’t like his given name, he’d keep saying he wished his name was something else. When I asked what he’d like to be called, he said: ‘I want to be called Peter - Peter, the Rock.’ He was always active in Sunday School - loved the Bible stories of Jesus and the Apostles.

“Although very reserved and apparently timid, he always enters very emphatically into any discussion of racial prejudice, racial differences, etc., taking the stand of tolerance and - as his reading indicated - that ‘God is no respecter of persons.’ He speaks with authority on such questions, whereas on others he takes a back seat and lets someone else do the talking.

“Such things as this are definite proof to me of the truth of his life reading.”

R6. 8/2/56 [3258]‘s letter to A.R.E.:

Gentlemen:

On October 3, 1943 Mr. Cayce gave me a life reading [3258-1]. In moving during the past few years, I have kept the original reading but somewhere along the line the page containing the list of ten questions and answers, has disappeared. I was wondering if it would be possible to receive a duplicate of these questions and answers? I shall be happy to pay any charges that may be involved.

Give my regards to Hugh Lynn. I was sorry that I was unable to attend the meetings when he was here last spring.

R7. 8/13/56 [3258]‘s letter to E.C.F.:

Attn: Mrs. Mae G. St. Clair:

Dear Mrs. St. Clair:

Thank you very much for your prompt answer to my letter. I am enclosing $2.00 to cover the cost of copying, handling and mailing of the question and answers. As I have made a number of copies of the body of the reading, the question and answer sheet is all that I really require at present.

I shall be most happy to give you a report on the reading however confused and disjointed my reportorial writing may be. I hope that what I write will make some sense and will be of some help to you.

Regarding the statement on the first page; “The abilities and the adaptability of the entity to environ and circumstance are to be considered.” I am not quite certain just how this statement was meant to be taken. I will say, however, that my adaptability to both environ and circumstance is very poor. Any changes from my normal patterns or routines of living throw me quite “out of stride”. I dislike greatly having my set patterns and routines disrupted for any reason. This condition, I note, has greatly increased since moving from Illinois to California four years ago. During the past two years, I have developed a number of neurotic fears and phobias for which I can find no logical reason. I have had several sessions with a well known Psychiatrist in … and he has been unable to point out a true cause or reason for this neurosis. Gradually, I am learning and forcing myself to live with it, but it is not a situation to my liking.

I did not have the year of reading law as advised in the reading and this has been much to my regret in many ways. My judgements are badly tempered. I have lost considerable financially through this lack of legal knowledge. My mode of thinking seems to be that of pure blacks and whites, shaded with very little greys.

On page #2 of the reading, the statement regarding Mars making for a very positive active life… As mentioned before, the past few years have been almost the opposite, - have been living a very negative and inactive life. I have always worked for others, having had a bad failure in a business of my own. I would like to own my own business again, but I am afraid of failure and hesitate doing anything in that direction at present.

As to the “high mental abilities” found in Mercury. I tend to discount myself as to mental abilities but my wife and friends have told me repeatedly that a mind like mine is going to waste in the line of work I am doing now. I have even been told by the psychiatrist who treated me that I should continue my studies and become a psychological counsellor. He has even offered to help me achieve this goal. As to the historian, I have never cared much for history except for the histories of the religions. I would not have the slightest idea how to go about being a historian. At one time I had thought of entering the ministry but of late, I have become what might be termed an iconoclast and all forms of organized religion are abominable to me. I am not an atheist in any sense but the God of the Church and my conception of the Creative Force are so far removed that I have very little patience with the Pollyanna platitudes of Religion per se, and the leaders of the church. I believe my one time interest in entering the ministry was due to a very brief meeting with a most wonderful monk in the Episcopal Church, a Brother Juniper, a man whose whole life was dedicated to making people happy.

In the next paragraph of the reading, the history theme is again repeated and as I said before, history has never interested me very much except in the histories of the religions. Perhaps this interest will be forthcoming at a later date however.

The paragraph relating to the forces of Jupiter is next. At one time, I had quite strong inclinations to groups or sects but of late the neurotic leanings have more or less taken over and I find myself wanting to avoid groups of any sort, preferring to study and work alone and on my own.

Uranus brings in the extremes and the emotional side which is quite true in my case. I am quite an emotional person and I often go to quite divergent extremes in many cases. I do try to keep myself free for all studies of a spiritual nature and am constantly reading and studying all phases of spiritual development and life. True, my emotional side is kept greatly repressed for some unknown reason (probably the cause of the neurosis). I am very much interested in doing psychological and spiritual counselling and helping people where I can and a number of my optical customers have come to me for psychological help and advice which I hardly feel qualified to give. I do the best I can with them and hope I have done nothing to worsen their troubles. If I may, I will relate the story of one young lady who came into my office one morning asking me to call her a cab as she “was very ill.” She was pale and trembling and I had her sit down while I got her a glass of water and a mild sedative pill. I immediately recognized her trouble as being of a purely emotional nature and we talked for an hour or more. I told her that I would call her a physician if she wished, but she said she did not feel the need of medical treatment. Some time before, she had tried to commit suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills. In telling me this, she gave me a clue to her troubles, immediately after taking the pills, she had called the police and told them what she had done. Her actions were purely and simply a bid for attention and she was a pretty enough girl that she did not really have to resort to such tactics to get attention. After talking with her for over an hour, the color returned to her cheeks and she was calm. I put her in my car and drove her to the Dr.’s office where she worked as a receptionist. She had told me that the Dr. she worked for was out of town and she was alone in the office. I worried about her all the rest of the day, knowing she was alone in the office and had access to all sorts of pills and medicines. However, at five that evening, she phoned me that after talking with me she had never felt better. She had gone to a restaurant and the bank alone (one of her symptoms was extreme claustrophobia) and she said she was giving me all the credit for helping her. For the next few days, this girl dropped into my office for a chat in the morning and I have since lost track of her. I feel very good to know that in some small way I have been instrumental in helping someone. This is just one instance among many. For some reason or other, people with mental or emotional problems have always been drawn to me. I do not feel qualified to really work with them until I have cleaned out my own mental and emotional closet, but still they keep coming.

As to the previous incarnations as brought out in the reading. I tried to locate in the records of the City Hall in Chicago, any record of a person named Harold Zanda, but could find nothing to indicate such a person. Whereas these past incarnations are important to study in many ways it is all but impossible to find any records of the names involved.

The next incarnation, that occurring in the English land under the name Juano is very significant to me. I am a great lover of books and an avid reader. I read very little fiction but am extremely interested in themes dealing with matters spiritual and psychological and read anything I can get my hands on along those lines. I have also been told that I am more than fair and just in dealing with material and physical things. I am reluctant to charge anything for minor repairs to my customers, repairs that cost me nothing in material and a few moments of my time. In that same incarnation a remark is made that brings in the work of an advisory council. I am going to work towards that goal and am starting an extension course at the University of California towards working for a degree in psychology. In the State of California, there are no provisions in the law for psychological counsellors, anyone who so chooses can set himself up as a consulting psychologist. I do not feel that this is right in any way and sincerely hope that a law will soon be enacted covering this important phase of the healing arts.

The next incarnation, that in the Roman Land under the name. Pheres means little to me. As a small boy, I was a great admirer of Peter and the work he did in establishing the early Church. It is true that I do seek justification for many of the things I do. My yea’s and nay’s are more often “on the fence.” Neither one taking precedence over the other.

The Egyptian incarnation is again significant. “Somewhat less than able to handle self. The entity worked hardships as well as aggravating itself.” This can be true of the present incarnation. I do tend to aggravate myself over very small insignificant events. I know that rather than being a “victim of circumstance” I create my own circumstance and am forced to live with it.

The next item, that of the abilities for the present. We have covered the historian aspect previously, so I will not go into that. I have made several attempts at writing, but it has always been of fiction. Wife and friends want me to continue writing but I get bogged down in detail and after getting discouraged, I usually give the manuscript up as a bad job, one that wouldn’t have worked out anyway. I probably have two dozen unfinished manuscripts (fiction) lying around the house right now. I have written several manuscripts dealing with the psychological problems of Myopes (nearsighted people) but have never submitted them for publication. I have many ideas in mind for writing (non fiction) but I never seem to get around to working on them. I call it sheer laziness on my part but deep within, I know that it is a fear of failure that keeps me from working on my writings. I do not like to fail in things I attempt, so rather than submit a manuscript and have it rejected, I simply do nothing about it. A very poor attitude I agree and one that I am fighting to overcome.

At one time, I only wanted to study medicine and become a physician. However, within the past ten years, I have formulated many opinions regarding the healing arts and firmly believe that fully 99% of all illness is emotionally or psychologically induced either directly or indirectly. The only cure for such illness, therefor, is to get to the actual root of the problem and until that root is found and blasted from the subconscious the patient shall always suffer. Symptoms may disappear but they are only replaced with other symptoms in a short time. Statistics show that the greater proportion of our hospital beds are occupied by persons who are emotionally or psychologically ill. It it my firm belief that most ills can be cured by right thinking and right attitudes and through the bringing into the open the hidden emotional factors that are the root or basic cause of the illness. Freud discovered this many years ago and his therapy became known as Psychoanalysis…call it what you will, any therapy that releases these hidden emotions is legitimate. When it comes right down to it, Faith is the keynote here. If a man has faith he can be cured of most any disease he might suffer from. It is quite true that all mortal beings must “die”, but there is no reason in the world why they cannot “die” healthy in body rather than ill or diseased. Sounds complex and a bit contradictory, but I do not believe it is. If a healer told me to go to the Monterey beach and eat a teaspoonful of sand and I would be cured, if I had Faith in that healer, I would become cured, but such faith is not easily found these days especially when one is constantly being bombarded from all sides with all sorts of “Medical advertising.” This only serves to make us a more and more disease conscious nation, a more neurotic nation. I am not discounting the wonderful things that medicine and science has done for the world. I merely believe that if we were less disease conscious there would actually be less disease. The Dr. who delivered our little girl three months ago (by cesarian section) is a fine man in his field, but he confessed to my wife that right after Pres. Eisenhower’s heart attack, he suffered chest pains, palpitations and all sorts of heart symptoms when actually his heart was as sound as could be. It goes to show, that no one is immune to any disease if enough pressure is brought to bear and the aspect of disease is constantly played up in our newspaper, television and radio.

Please forgive the long dissertation. When I get started on my pet subjects. I don’t seem to know where to stop. I did not mean to make this report into a full volume of its own.

Thank you for your kind invitation to visit the Foundation. I should like very much to do so but my business is such that I have not had a day’s vacation in almost four years. Someday I do hope to pay you a visit as I think that Edgar Cayce was one of the greatest men of our time and I have nothing but admiration for the work he did in helping mankind. I was most happy to read in Mr. Millard’s book that you have the hospital again.

Dear Mr. Cayce

You will never know how disappointed I am not to be able to come to Virginia Beach, but the rules of this college I attend are very strict as for attendance, so I must not be absent even for a day if I can help it.

Mother received a card from Mrs. Bro today, saying for me to send you six or eight specific questions, as she had asked, by the procedure.

So I am sending them at this time with the hope that at Christmas vacation I can come to Virginia Beach. I shall be in prayer and meditation with you at the appointed time on Oct. 3rd.

The questions are as follows.

1. Am I following the right profession in entering pre-medical college or should I follow the ministry?
2. Will my poor eyesight prevent my serving in the Army, and what suggestions have you for correcting my vision and a nervous tendency?
3. What is my mission on Earth this time and explain my former incarnations?
4. Shall I continue my work as an apprentice pharmacist after school hours or accept work as a orderly in a hospital? Which will be most beneficial?
5. Is cigarette smoking injurious to me, and, how may I break the habit?
6. What is to be my part - war work in serving humanity?
7. I am concerned about my mother’s heart condition. Is there anything to be done about it?
8. What suggestions have you that will help my father in finding the legal work he is searching for - he has prayed so long about this?

I have submitted the questions about which I am most concerned, hoping that God - through you will answer them as He best sees fit.
