-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [340]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, there are the acute conditions of neuritis; and a combination of disturbances arising from pressures in the colon. Though the disturbance is in the bursa of the arm and shoulder, the source of this arises from a colon distress.
-
With the excruciating pain, we would take, to be sure, some palliative. Aspirin with Soda-Mint is preferable, or a hypnotic of some character - which should be administered by a physician if this is taken, though the Aspirin may be taken with impunity by self up to twenty grains.
-
Begin applying saturated solution of Epsom Salts in Packs over the affected area of arm and shoulder.
-
Also begin immediately with an eliminant; preferably the mineral salts, such as Eno, Sal Hapatica or Rochelle Salts, or Citrocarbonate.
-
Then, when these have acted, DO have a good colonic. This will remove the pressure and alleviate the distresses.
-
After this particular spell is alleviated, do be mindful to take the Eno Salts regularly for some time; five day periods at the time, leaving off about an equal period and then taking again; a teaspoonful of mornings before any meal is taken.
-
Be mindful that not too much roughage at any time is taken in the diet through the period of these treatments, nor too much of raw foods.
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 3/17/43 “This is not only to wish you a Happy Birthday but to wish all things good for you. If I could only put on paper what is in my heart, in gratitude to you, you would know more clearly just how I feel. I have called on you so much and given so little in return - except in love and loyalty - and maybe not loyal enough in the matter of adhering closely to what you have told me to do.
“I thank you for giving me such relief Sunday. We got busy immediately your wire came and I had the best night’s sleep I had had for several nights, Sunday night - and by Tuesday morning I was able to use my arm pretty well - and this morning am able to use it to write. I don’t have to tell YOU [who have had neuritis so much] what kind of pain it was.
“I went down to Dr. Sunora L. Whiteside [D.O.] yesterday to get a treatment and colonic and took the rdg. I’ve never seen any doctor so enthusiastic about a rdg. She thought it was about the most wonderful thing she ever knew about, and asked to let her keep it to show a man who is suffering from the same thing - has been for weeks.
“She also said a Dr. Murphy from Bowling Green [Ky.] had told her about you many years ago. Do you remember her?…
“Am feeling so much better it almost seems like a miracle. Again I thank you.”
R2. 3/20/43 EC’s letter: “Glad it made something of interest for the Dr. Some may learn something from the suggestions. But give all the praise and glory to HIM, for I know it is not of myself - but am thankful for you that you are better.”
R3. 6/29/44 She referred a friend for rdg. 5305-1.
R4. GD’s note: EPSOM SALTS PACKS - Dissolve as much Epsom Salts as will dissolve in the amount of water necessary to saturate a crash towel. Apply as hot as possible over area indicated. Keep repeating the hot applications for two or three hours at each treatment. A heavy, dry towel or rubber sheet may be used over packs to prevent soiling sheets, etc.
R5. May, 1984 article in A.R.E. NEWS - LETTERS REVEAL LOVING RELATIONSHIP:
Sarah Hesson, the youngest of Edgar Cayce’s sisters, was 23 years old in 1911 when she had her first reading from “Brother” (as he was called by the family) who was 13 years her senior.
Over the years Sarah had 47 readings, the majority of them physical ones. In the supplements following her readings are found some of her correspondence with Edgar Cayce showing the loving relationship between them.
After one of her readings in 1933 [340-20], she wrote: I want to thank you with all my heart for giving me a reading yesterday, particularly when you felt so badly. I felt decided relief an hour after I followed your instructions, and am sure I’ll be up in a few days. I had done everything I knew to do without results. Now, won’t you please give a reading on yourself and get relief as I have? Please do.”
When she was 46, following other readings, she wrote: “There is no doubt whatever in my mind that you saved my life this summer, and I’m striving every day to make it one worthwhile and of some service to my fellow man. As you so often have said, ‘Try to use what you have now and the other will come.’
In this reading in answer to the request, “Please give any other advice for the continued improvement of my body,” this reply was given: “First to everyone: Study to show thyself, in thy activities, in the daily life, approved unto an All- Wise, All-Purposeful Creator…
“Keep the self, then, in a perfect conscience in the material, in the spiritual, in the mental welfare and associations before others. Let not thine good be evil spoken of, but practice as ye preach. Act twice to saying once; for thou has two hands and two feet - but only one tongue. Thou has two eyes, two ears, and STILL one tongue. Hear and see twice as much as thou speakest. Let thy life towards others, then, reflect that thou bearest in relationships to thy God.” [340-29]
Upon receiving this advice, Sarah wrote: “I was so thrilled and pleased with my reading. I feel that I will soon be my normal self physically - will just have to be careful. I also feel that the Forces see the effort that I am trying to make spiritually - because I am trying to set myself right. Although the reading seemed to talk pretty straight to me, I realize I needed it. Yes, again I say, the more one sees and hears of the readings, the more wonderful and helpful they are. If we will only listen and obey, we will be helped. I am studying, trying ‘to show myself approved (in my daily life) unto an all-wise, all purposeful Creator.’
”…Thank you again and again for your wonderful help. You have not only put me on the right road to health but you are helping me to find myself - and showing me how to accept the joys and peace and love of God.”
Later in the month, one of her sisters wrote to Mr. Cayce: “Sarah looks better than she has for several years.”
In 1943, following the publication of THERE IS A RIVER, Edgar Cayce received this birthday letter from Sarah: “I have just finished THERE IS A RIVER. One who thinks so much of you couldn’t read it without weeping, but at the same time it is so interesting, so well written, such beautiful thoughts - in all, it’s just you. In reality, though, you have done so many more wonderful things than the book portrays - such a beautiful life to emerge from all the trials, the struggles, the disappointments - [you are] one who has been loved by all who really knew you…yet you have kept your feet on the ground - a man of God.
“This is not only to wish you a Happy Birthday but to wish all things good for you. If I could only put on paper what is in my heart, my gratitude to you, you would know more clearly just how I feel. I have called on you so much and given so little in return - except in love and loyalty.
“I thank you for giving me such relief [through her reading 340-47] Sunday. We got busy immediately your wire came and I had the best night’s sleep I have had for several nights, Sunday night. By Tuesday morning I was able to use my arm pretty well - and this morning am able to use it to write…
“I went down to Dr. Sunora L. Whiteside [D.O.] yesterday to get a treatment and colonic and took my reading. I’ve never seen any doctor so enthusiastic about a reading. She thought it was about the most wonderful thing she ever knew about, and asked to let her keep it to show a man who is suffering from the same thing - has been for weeks…
“Am feeling so much better it almost seems like a miracle. Again I thank you.”
Edgar Cayce responded: “Glad [reading] made something of interest for the doctor. Some may learn something from the suggestions. But give all the praise and glory to HIM, for I know it is not of myself…am thankful for you that you are better.”
After Edgar Cayce’s death in 1945, Sarah continued to correspond with his secretary, Gladys Davis Turner, reporting on her experiences in following the advice in the Circulating Files. In 1968, along with a request for a file for her sister, she wrote: “Twenty-three years since Edgar Cayce left us, yet he still lives,” a realization that many share today.
