This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 10th day of December, 1925, in accordance with request made by self - [341].

Time of Reading 3:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Va.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [341], of …, Va., together with the Life Reading as given for this body on February 28, 1925, in Dayton, Ohio, especially the appearance second from the present one. The entity at that time as one, Edgar the 3rd, Standard Bearer. [341-8]. As given in the Life Reading, well that the entity understands much of each appearance in the earth’s plane, that this may be weighed with the present development that lies within the sphere of mental forces of the entity. You will give such information concerning this appearance, the second one from the present one, that may be of help in the developing of the entity along every line. You will also give any information concerning this appearance that will aid the entity, [341], in solving the question of his life’s work. You will give any other advice that may help the entity in deciding the life’s work and in better understanding the dreams and visions as come to the entity, and in maintaining the correct mental balance to keep away from that madness of Mars as warned of in the Life Reading. You will answer any questions that I ask you regarding any of this.

2. EC: Yes, we have the information as given, and the relation of the entity, [341], with those Universal Forces, especially that manifested in that period in earth existences known as Edgar the 3rd, Standard Bearer in Crusade - or Edicut [?]. In this we find the entity, then, in the royal house of then Bavarian Prince, and in the Crusade the entity was the Standard Bearer at the age of nineteen. The life to the time the entity left for the Holy Land was in that of training and of the development for the position of the one to lead the peoples. In the second Crusade we find the entity, in entering the hill at the base of same, that overlooks the Holy City, the entity then lost the physical life from that of the slingers from the wall, see? and the Cross Bearer [See 78-1 on 5/23/25] [See 1005-2 on 7/23/25] upholding the entity - yet in the suffering and the entertaining in the house of those by whom the entity fell, in the study of other religious forces, through special application, brought many changes in the life, [See 849-1 on 6/7/27] yet this innate force as is manifest in oppression, and through suppression, of the desires of self is manifest much in the present sojourn, see? In the developing forces, the urge to study all phases of the religious viewpoint, and an understanding as would be gained by few raised in the environment of the Moslems’ point of view, see? In the keeping then from the influence in Mars, as is seen from this sojourn, and this inclination toward that of destructive forces to physical body from firearms, we find in the madness of the desire would the greater destructive force be manifest, see? Only, then, in the twenty-fourth year in the earth plane during this sojourn. Very good. Strong of body, strong of mind, strong of will; yet broken much in oppression in the conditions that surrounded same in that land.

R3. 4/19/1999 “Dear Jeanette: Sorry for the delay, but I think we’ve got him. According to what Dieter, Karola [Benezeder] and I have been able to dig out of reference books, we have an individual as follows:

Edgar in German - Ottokar.

There was an Ottokar III of Styria (In German - Steiermark). He was born in 1124 and died on 31 December 1164. Styria is now a state in Austria, but up until 1180, it was a vassal state of the Bavarian Prince (he was not officially a king at the time, but a type of prince). I think this former connection between the two states is also expressed in the syntax of the reading:

“In this we find the entity, then, in the royal house of then Bavarian Prince.”

The “then” Bavarian Prince, Styria is not now a part of Bavaria, but was then.

In a Czech encyclopaedia, I found that Ottokar III increased the size of his state by invading a chunk of land called Pitten.

In the encyclopaedia, there was no mention of Ottokar III taking part in the Crusades, but the Second Crusade started according to varying sources - around 1146-1147. Ottokar would have been ca. 21 to 23 years old at that time, which comes close to the 19 years of age mentioned by Mr. Cayce.

Regarding “Edicut,” could it be Gladys’ rendition of the old German name “Ottokar,” as given through Mr. Cayce’s southern US accent? Just a guess here.

So, what do you think? It seems to me that the evidence points to Edgar III having been this Ottokar III of Styria, but one cannot be 100% sure, when dealing with records of such a long time ago.

We will keep looking for further information about his life, perhaps where he is buried. Actually Dieter comes originally from that part of Austria. So, he would be able to get information relatively easily.
