This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of December, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [341], Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:20 to 12:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Va. (Entity, born March 16, 1907, in Bowling Green, Ky. You will consider the life records of this entity, his choice of devoting this experience to studying and presenting his father’s work and his various associations and activities now. I seek at this time guidance in directing my mental, physical and spiritual energies in accord with Divine Will. Ques.) [See 254-96 on 11/21/37.]

  1. EC: Yes - we have the records of the entity now known as or called [341].

  2. There are other experiences that have not been given. Some of these seek expression in the present, and should be in a manner possibly touched upon - the Chinese, or the Mongoloid.

  3. In giving that, though, as we find that is the most helpful in the experience of this entity from that which is being sought in the present, the two outstanding experiences are those - to be sure - in the Palestine and as Araaraart in the Egyptian.

  4. These are in a manner conflicting, yet in the very purposes of the choice of the entity in the present there is the seeking that they be so correlated that there may be a cooperative rather than a dividing experience in the present.

  5. To be sure, these oft bring in the experience of the entity conditions or activities that are not understood by others, and work in a manner in the experiences of others something of a hardship - in that there appear to be indifferences when such are not meant. These, though, are owing to the various experiences or the extremes being brought together.

  6. In the experience of a living entity, know that only in the life consciousness of the Christ may extremes be brought together and be made to become compatible or workable one with another.

  7. There are other influences also that arise. These become, though, so far as the choice is concerned in the giving of self in the physical and mental way and manner, rather as side issues; or those influences that find expression when DEFINITE activities are undertaken in a given field of expression. (Follow these closely if you would get the import!) As an illustration:

  8. If there is the attempt to write, then the cloister or the segregation of self becomes the more necessary.

  9. If there is the attempt of the expression in the PHYSICAL reactions or activities, then we find that which has not as yet been given becomes the greater way of expression - or the greater INFLUENCE in the way of expression; and would become much MORE so in the marital relationships - that become a part of the experience soon, or the choice to be made at least in those directions!

  10. But in the experience as Araaraart we find the entity in the physical sense, or a physical-expressive sense, relying upon advice or counsel from others; and still warring against that which such a policy has brought into the experience - finding this same expression in the present. Though the activity may come in what may be termed a like manner, the choice makes for the reverse - in that OTHERS are to be directed in their activity by that choice.

  11. While the experiences, the dealings and relationships with others from the Andrew sojourn are active in the present, we find there is the same indication of that need of reliance upon the activity or choice of others; as may be so well indicated in, “Is not this he of whom it has been spoken?” and “Come and see.”

  12. Yet the stamina, the stability, the sincerity that grew from the associations and experiences as Andrew, as well as the application, become not a complement to the experience as the King Araaraart, but parallel; and the ways crossings as it were so often that it behooves the entity to study both these influences, deep innate within self.

  13. For that which has been the experience of the soul is a part and parcel of same.

  14. Hence again, or ever - not just again but EVER, is there, then, the exercising in the conscious experience of the entity of the will; in that, “Whom then WILL ye serve?” Today, now, EVER, there is set before thee good, evil; life and death; love and hate. All of these are in the experience.

  15. Now with the choice, then comes the helpful or impelling influence from that BUILDED within self - as to whatever choice is made.

  16. NO ONE may make the choice for anyone. There has been the promise, “Abide in me, as I in thee; that as I and the Father are one, I in thee may be one with the Father.”

  17. These are promises, but are ever in the way of the choice being made today; for today is before thee - the self and all of those influences and forces that may impel, with all of their helpful influences - whether it’s choosing wrong or right! The influence is to INCREASE the activity, by that EXPERIENCED by a soul entity!

  18. And this ye call the building of personality or individuality. That ye would build is the individuality and the personality of thy Christ.

  19. Ready for questions.

  20. (Q) The following direction for activities are being considered. Please advise me considering the best development for the Work. (A) A period of several months in N.Y. after the first of the coming year: contacting old members; planning new readings; cooperating with doctors; contacting Columbia on vocational direction, etc. (B) Intensive activity on publications. (C) Plan to attend Duke University for M.A. in psychology. (D) Study Group work in Norfolk, Church Work and Scout work that give outlets for practical application of spiritual truths presented through readings and producing an inner happiness, and balanced background for work in community. (E) Marriage with [1505] within one or two years. (A) Why not most all of these be a part of the work?

In considering the various phases of those thoughts or ideas presented, many different activities as related to others and their interests and the urges must be considered.

As we find, rather a coordinant plan or outline might be - not MUST, but MIGHT be - drawn from the suggestions given.

Then let’s consider all phases of same:

There is the period when there should be more of that which has been obtained as data within the part of the Association work presented in tracts, pamphlets, booklets, stories and the like.

There is being considered some publicity in those directions, through the contemplated writing of the story of the Work, as a contribution not so much to psychic research but as to literature FROM an individual psychic research or psychic experience program.

These all become then parts of that to be, or which should be, considered.

As we find, there should be the ability to hold or stimulate the interest of those that have been contacted and that are, for the moment at least, a part of the body-activity of the purpose of the Association.

Then this as we find should be stimulated. This would require that there be some several months spent, then, in the environs where such a stimulation may be given for those to choose the various phases of what has been gathered as data for papers, tracts, booklets, BOOKS; as well as stimulating a DEFINITE manner in which publications may be a fact, by the establishing of a Foundation for such an activity.

That should be, that may be the activity in the first half year period; or through March, April, May.

And these then brought to fruition by the activities as would be had through the summer in the field of the DEFINITE setting of plans; as well as stimulating to activity the writing of the main body or the main book for distribution.

Then with that established as the Foundation, use in TAKING the degree necessary to fit SELF TO BE AN ACTIVITY FOR the aiding in writing and correcting that as may be written respecting same, see? This may be accomplished in ‘38 and ‘39; for by ‘42 - there will be other things to think about! [GD’s note: World War II?]

In the manners then as for the preparations for the settling, for the life’s work: Let that include definite programs as to Church AND as to the recreational activities or body-building for the young, in its association with the Scout movement. That, of course, would include the wedded life. The choice is well. Ye were both very good Chinese! [1/1/38 See 1505-1, Par. 50-A—52-A in re marriage and his incarnation in Mongolia.]

  1. (Q) Do I understand that the writing should be made in the early months of the year? (A) The early months should be in contacts and in preparation. The real preparation for the BODY’S writing will be rather during and after the degree.

The preparations and contacts are for others that will write articles, skits, books, tracts and the like.

  1. (Q) What would be the best months for me to go to N.Y.? (A) Part of February, March and April - May.

  2. (Q) Please suggest subjects for, ideas for general trend of research papers. (A) Rather as this: In the preparations and in the meetings of individuals, and those that are gifted, those that have ideas, and those that have monies - these will offer or present their ideas. Acquaint thyself (as ye have; but have it more in an orderly manner) with data ye have, see? Then be able to direct such writers, or such ideas, as to how and where and from what portion of that data already gained may be found that to be gathered - rather than considering the writings the self. Not that there would not be the Bulletins or Papers, while giving the time to the meeting in the New York area or environs, but these would be gathered from rather the contacts as well as the activities - in which there would be close associations and back and forth with trips for such papers.

Then the GENERAL work would be begun in the summer of ‘39, or in the early portion of ‘40. [4/7/38 See 254-97 in re A.R.E. publications, etc.]

  1. (Q) To what extent should Group Work be attempted in N.Y.? (A) This will have to work itself out. As to the types and the characters, that is; but Group Work should be rather in first the one, two, three, following very closely that which is already prepared.

  2. (Q) Is the plan suggested to have more old members arrange meetings with individuals and groups to stimulate interest in more readings a good one? (A) Very good one.

  3. (Q) Would it be wise to make a direct approach to Alexis Carrel? (A) Let this be the outgrowth of the activities and the associations with others, and do not attempt to push in anywhere. [See 1554-1 Background ltr. 3/14/38.]

  4. (Q) What activity to stimulate interest and cooperation with doctors should be undertaken? in N.Y.? (A) We have already begun - just follow along slowly with these - let them seek! You will find plenty of them will be seeking if you are close by to talk with them and to follow each one up!

  5. (Q) What should be my approach to Columbia for the vocational direction? (A) This will be presented in a way or manner through the activities while there.

There are plenty of approaches, but these will be OUTGROWTHS; through first those that are OF THAT GROUP - old members of what is called the Columbia Club, or old graduates.

  1. (Q) Would you advise trying to get Sugrue Thomas Sugrue] to write a straight story on the Work or encourage him in his efforts of including material from rdgs.? (A) This would rather come second. Rather stimulate to write in the direction it has already taken. There are plenty of others that will be looking after these, and these would be brought for the writing out of such stories as would be a part of the whole activity! [See 254-111 on 9/2/41 in re Sugrue and A.R.E. publications, etc.]

  2. We are through for the present.
