-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
Now as we find, while there is not the desire to point out the pessimistic outlook, the conditions as we find unless they are guarded against must eventually - and that in not a great distant future - present some very disturbing and aggravating and hard conditions to deal with.
-
For many of the portions of the system are weakening under the strain that is being produced.
-
However, if there is the adherence to those things as we find would be helpful, the conditions may be averted and there may be quite a number of years of active service and real opportunities through this present experience.
-
These conditions then, as we find, exist mainly as the basic forces:
-
A lesion in the cerebrospinal system, and contributory causes that arise in functioning of organs. But many of the organs have become very much weakened under the stress and the conditions that have existed, and do exist. However, there are days and periods when with the general mental attitude, exaltations bring about a recuperative activity. Yet there are many days and periods when the body in the sluggishness of the circulation, in the pressure as produced upon the heart’s activity, in the poor eliminations as through a torpidity of the liver and an activity that is lacking in its cleansing through the alimentary canal - thus producing toxic forces again that only aggravate the general conditions, through those gradual accumulations that make for a pressure in the glands about the scrotum and the conditions that produce an irritation and a pressure upon the bladder itself, and the softening of tissue or accumulations about the kidneys themselves [Nephritis?] - cannot have a very optimistic outlook for general conditions; unless some decided changes are brought about in the physical forces of the body.
-
Those activities in the nerve forces then, as we find, or the lesions in same, exist mainly in the coccyx, the lumbar and the 3rd and 4th dorsal. These arise from first an injury to the end of the spine some years ago, then an injury or a hurt as combined with same when the body suffered from what was called at the time lumbago or stiffening through the small of the back and the lower portion of the kidney area, indigestion. All arose from those conditions.
-
Then these affected the system as has been indicated.
-
As we would find, in making applications, all of the conditions must be taken into consideration.
-
Hence while applications in one direction may be made for causes, in this particular case not only the causes but the effects upon organs must be taken into consideration. And what will be an application to aid in some respects will in part apparently at times work hardships upon other portions of the system.
-
There must be, then, alterations or changes from time to time; that there may be eliminated the causes, the effects along together. Thus we may build the normalcy back for this body, if there is the persistence and consistence in the activities, the application and the attitudes of the body towards a CONSTRUCTIVE influence throughout its bodily functioning itself, as well as its applications to those things that may make for helpful influences.
-
Then, in the beginning, we would begin as with this:
-
First we would, at least every other day, for at least two or three weeks, whether there is an elimination through the alimentary canal or not, in the evening before retiring CLEANSE the alimentary canal with enemas. Not too high, not too severe, not too great a quantity of water; whether there is the movement so much of the bowels or not, though this would be preferable. But do not take such quantities of water, or have it so warm as to produce a stress or strain upon the system. Use the Fountain Syringe as a means, rather than colonics, or elevators or the like. But in each quart and a half of water (and use about that much each time) put a heaping teaspoonful of salt and a level teaspoonful of ordinary baking soda. Dissolve this thoroughly, and then use as a part of the enema to be sure. This in the water, see?
-
After this has been used and evacuated, then put another quart of water and to this put a tablespoonful of Glyco-Thymoline. We would have the water (for both of these) the temperature of the body, or about ninety-eight - ninety-seven or ninety-eight, see?
-
And after this has been used, then have massaged into the small of the back and through those areas just between the shoulders and a little bit below same, equal portions of Olive Oil, Tincture of Myrrh and Tincture of Benzoin. Heat the Oil to add the Myrrh and the Benzoin.
-
After this is massaged into same for twenty to thirty minutes, apply HEAT - as from an electric pad, or from the hot water bottles or the like. The Pad is preferable, as for this the dry heat is more necessary than a wet heat; for the application is not only to effect the carrying of the properties indicated into the muscular forces and to the organs and the activities of the plexus in those areas but to relax the system thoroughly.
-
After this has been kept up for at least two to three weeks, then gradually leave these off. But keep up the colonics, you see.
-
And begin with adjustments to be made in the lumbar, the coccyx and - of course - throughout the upper dorsal and the cervical area.
-
In the matter of the diet, this should be watched carefully. DO NOT eat THESE:
-
No fried foods at ANY time. Preferably always white breads are to be eliminated as much as possible. Meats or red meats should be eliminated.
-
Fish, fowl or lamb may be taken, but NOT fried. Broiled, boiled, stewed or the like.
-
In the vegetables, do not eat potatoes and other starches - as rice or spaghetti - at the same meal.
-
Do not eat cereals and citrus fruit juices at the same meal.
-
Do this and then after sixty to ninety days we would give further instructions.
-
The adjustments osteopathically or neuropathically should be made about twice each week, for periods of two to three weeks. Do not begin these until after the other applications and then a rest of a week from the treatments, and then begin again.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/26/36 He wrote EC in appreciation: “I would like to raise a monument as high as heaven to you… You have been so kind and good to me - so patient towards my weaknesses - so ready and so faithful, that it is beyond human power to describe. With it all I feel like raising hands of prayer and praise to our Father for His goodness and mercy, that He lets me see the exemplification of His work done through a man that has been friendly to me - that I CAN WRITE TO AND THAT WILL WRITE TO ME.
“I rec’d my Physical Rdg. this evening and all that has gone before in this letter is an attempt to tell you so. I am so thankful for it I can’t begin to tell you about it… I will try to carry out the instructions beginning tonight.”
R2. 11/21/36 “I think I can see improvement slowly in my general condition, though I believe it is too early to expect too much.”
R3. 12/3/36 He requested 1308-1 for a friend.
R4. 12/6/36 “I will ask for further information about the middle of Jan. I will be anxious to know what progress I am making.”
R5. 1/1/37 “I am feeling somewhat decrepid today after a disturbing night. I was to bed early among the bustle and excitement in preparation for celebration of the coming new year. It was my regular night for colonics and massaging of my back with the prescribed mixture, with the application of the electric pad. The lower portion of my spine seemed to be affected more than usual and still has the aching and the enervating effect, with a dull fullness about the back of my head. I have felt slight sensations like this before, after this treatment, but this is decidedly more enervating.
“I have felt that the treatments were doing me a great deal of good and I could feel the effects of the treatments constructively. My feeling today are more disturbing than any time since I began the treatments. In fact I have no disturbing symptoms except the weakness, or exhaustion and shortness of breath with a little exertion. All of this, when it appeared more noticeable, was a condition that had existed before I began the treatments, and nothing more than I expected. The fullness and roaring in the head has disappeared.
“In making my ck. rdg. I could ask questions like the following: Is there anything I could do that I am not now doing to correct this shortness of breath in climbing a small hill? Will the tr. recommended for me restore more strength and vitality? I am conserving my strength at my work but will have added responsibility in Jan. Can I continue with the same care without hindering recovery when this responsibility is added?… There has been an improvement in the breaking of my rest period to evacuate the bladder. Will the tr. prescribed continue to improve this condition and improve the condition of the glands of the scrotum?…”

R8. 7/2/41 Letter to EC from [370]:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
“As I tried to convey to you in last letter, I am approaching that dangerous stage portrayed in my physical reading of Oct. 36. The great improvement I received at that time & the relief from kidney stones was so pronounced that I took if for a cure and became careless & neglectful as I see it from the present point of observation.
“I am now getting in more & more distress. I am afraid of soon becoming bedridden & my earning capacity is about vanished. I have begun with the help of my wife the back rubbing & colonic treatment I had in 36. I have also tried to find relief among the medicine the M.D. gave me.
“See if you can arrange a date to help me. Let me know how to relieve this fullness in my chest - shortness of breath - and weakening feeling. How to sleep better & how to deport myself to gain strength.
“I realize now my case is very difficult.”

Background
Background
B1. See 370-1 & 370-2 in ‘32 & ‘33 regarding Ala. lands.
B2. 4/9/34 “I cannot estimate the good seeing you [in B’ham recently] did me. There is an experience I had on a health or physical rdg. you did for me in Selma that remains with me as a tender memory never to be forgotten. You and Alex Cawthon and I were the only ones present and the rdg. comprised only one sentence. I doubt that the occasion ever arises for us to review the details in this case, but as I was stunned by the impact of the answer to my query then (some 19 yrs. ago [1914]) it has ever since impressed me with the profoundness of the information coming in the rdg. and that we are dealing with spiritual laws. It was a lesson to me that I shan’t forget.”
B3. 12/19/34 He obtained Physical Rdg. 767-1 for a friend.
B4. 3/25/36 He obtained his own Life Rdg. 370-3.
B5. 7/10/36 “I have lately had a severe jar physically when put in severe pain by a passage of kidney stones as diagnosed by the doctor. Anyway it struck me unannounced but with severity. I am recovering the weakening effects and hoping there will be no more experience like this.”
B6. 10/13/36 He requested a Physical Rdg: “I have never given my physical condition very much consideration. The passing of the kidney stones sometime ago, besides startling me into attention, has caused me to think more seriously. Heretofore some simple remedy would correct the slight irregularities. But since the doctor has shown me something about the dangers of high blood pressure, and the recent recurrence of head noises that come periodically from this, I want to get to the bottom of the matter. It seems that late hours or undue excitement bring this on, as well as some kinds of diet. Knowing some friends that have had prostate trouble also makes me think I may be out of order too in this respect. There is some organic disorder that is affecting me in various ways, such as wakeful nervousness occasionally at night, and repeated risings to void the kidneys. And too, I believe this must affect my thinking sometimes at work that calls for excessive use of will power. I want to preserve this physical body the best I may, that I may better do the service to my fellows as opportunity comes.”
