1. LS: You will go over the body carefully, examine it thoroughly and tell me the conditions you find at the present time. You will diagnose the case thoroughly, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief for this body.

2. EC: Now, we find the conditions are somewhat different in the body from that we have had here before. While the effects to the general system are changed somewhat, that effect as produced is somewhat similar.

3. The abnormal conditions are of the complications as show and exist in the system. Had that as suggested, with the seat and cause of trouble removed, we would have had a different condition, had those properties been given the system to create the equilibrium in the body, for with the bacilli as is being exhumed in the system from tissue involved, by the action of the streptococci in the blood, which now is produced by the lack of the system being able to create fast enough the destroyers necessary in the blood stream to care for that element produced in system that becomes so detrimental, or as we have the complication in the eliminations in the system, for with the nerves’ system so overtaxed, especially where the conjunction between nerve supply to the system and the creating of the new blood to rebuild in the system, this produces then the strain, the debility, the inertia in the body to meet the needs of the system. This, as we find, is gradually becoming localized in the right side, in and about the lacteal ducts, and the inflammation as is exercised in the blood is the inability of the excretory systems to combat with the elements produced by the overtaxing in the body. This we see exemplified by the action of the nerve system as has been exercised upon by the increased vibration through electrical forces. The stimulation as received in system from this over vibration assisted the body, until the nerve system not able to be brought to the state of resistance necessary for the condition created in tissue and in functioning of the system proper. In the reaction then in system, we find these conditions as necessary to be met:

4. First, in the cerebro-spinal system, in the nerve plexuses, especially of the solar plexus proper and the secondary solar plexus, the lesions (floating) of the nature that prevents the system of having the necessary incentive. By over-stimulation through electrical forces this has become deranged by the depression through the congestion as is produced in lesions. The mesenteric system does not function normal or nominal flow of the leukocyte and blood stream through liver, pancreas and the jejunum of the whole intestinal system. Hence the intense pain at times as is produced across the body, near or just below the diaphragm. The system attempting to create its equilibrium brings depression to the right side and across the body.

5. In this then we need to have those adjustments corrected through deep manipulation, osteopathically given, so that the system may be so stimulated as to throw off through the regular channels of the emunctories and the eliminating centers those poisons that are accumulating in the system. Giving those properties as were given before, [Life Everlasting], that reduce temperature and that build in the system the resistance in blood stream, in tissue in the body. Either given internally or massaged into the lymphatic circulation, so as to be taken into the body. These would be in armpits, in groin, in the abdomen. Those properties of Hydrastis. This we find would be better or more responsive than by taking the medicinal properties internally. There should be no water taken except very pure water and carrying with same those properties of both elm and yellow saffron. Well that these (the saffron) be made in tea. Not too strong. Elm be in most of the water, or all water taken outside of that.

6. Will we do this we will find we will bring the better conditions for this body, [3775]. Necessary that this be done, that the system may be able to respond to the reducing of temperature, the eliminations as should be set in liver, in intestinal tract, in kidneys, without overtaxing them, or without the inflammation becoming so centralized in tissue as to produce deterioration in the system itself. Otherwise, we will produce those destructive forces as will be found in tumors and in the forms of pus sacs forming in system.

7. Then, the deep manipulations should be given each day, that the body may rest well. The water should be given nominally, regularly. The diet should be in keeping with the conditions necessary to build in the system those of the blood rebuilding and of the nerve supplying conditions for system. Green vegetable forces. Little or no meats, save the juices of meats may be given at times. No stimulants carrying alcohol, unless of that nature that supplies with the alcohol produced in body. With this we will bring the better conditions - and bring about the nominal forces for this body, [3775].

8. The properties as would be massaged into the body; that is the Hydrastis (in liquid) should be applied at least every other day, until we find same being worked, as it were, through the emunctories or through the system, producing eliminations. The vibrations of electrical forces would be well, but rather use those of the ultra-violet rays, are these applied at all. These would be better when the system is better able to be strained, as it were, by electrical forces or light forces for the system. Then using those of Alpine ray or Rino’s rays for the body. These would be given every two to three days, after the system is better able, though, to stand same would these be used. We are through for the present.

Dear […]

I received your letter and wire and as I wired you yesterday afternoon, the reading, as you will see, was taken this morning. Now, I’m certainly in hopes that this will prove of a great deal of help to your father in regaining his normal physical health.

I realize also that the suggestions as given here are going to be quite different from that as he has been taking for some time, and I am sure you will have considerable trouble with your physician, whoever he may be, should you attempt to have him carry out the suggestions as are made here for him.

Now, […] you know I have no reason to offer you suggestions or advice, save as you have asked same through suggesting that I give this reading. Now, I’m in hopes you will take what I’m going to say in the spirit and manner that it is meant. Now, I do not know any of the circumstances, or conditions surrounding your father’s condition during his whole illness, other than that as you told me when I was there Thanksgiving, and the reading that was gotten at that time. Now I can only judge such things by the experience that I have had in the last twenty-five years and especially in the last eighteen months, since I have been trying to study this phenomena in seriousness and in earnest. Now the suggestions as are given here for your father, I am led to believe, by the experience of others, will be beneficial for him if they will carry them out in their entirety, and will prove of very little unless they are done so, for you can well see the warning that is given here - unless they are carried out as are suggested. Now I do not know whether that Dr. Oldham there would accept, consider or in any manner carry out the suggestions were you to carry your father to him for treatment, but I do know that there are several places in the country where you can get this carried out EXACTLY as it is given here, and if you and [1427] decide that it is the thing to do, I believe if I were in your place I would insist on your father going to one or the other of these men and have this carried out just as it is given and followed up from week to week, as these men will have it done if they treat him, and see if you don’t get some results. Now these places I know you can get it. Dr. Percy Woodall, First National Bank Building, Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. T. W. Posey, Bowling Green, Ky. Dr. Eugene R. Kraus, New York City. Dr. Lyman A. Lydic, Dayton, Ohio, or Dr. W. A. Gravatt, Dayton, Ohio. Now should he decide to have anyone of the men here, we’d be glad to cooperate with them directly, and I’m sure that they would give him every attention. But of course this is left entirely with you, but I’m certainly very much in hopes that you will at least try this out in its entirety. Not because that I have made the suggestion, or that it means anything to me at all, other than my interest in you and your father, for you know it’s up to these men, who ever you carry him to, to do the work and to make the examination and find whether what I have said is the truth or not. I’m certainly in hopes that you will let me hear from you from time to time, and you may be very sure, if it’s possible for me to be of any help or assistance, I’ll be more than glad to try and do so.

Dear Sir;

This will acknowledge receipt of your communication of the 11th [18th], also papers which were enclosed, and I wish to thank you very much for your prompt action in this matter.

Just at this time I can not say what will be done, but speaking for myself and other members of the family I believe that they are satisfied with your diagnosis of the case. As to getting the treatment given, that is a hard matter, as is the usual case any one who has been sick as long as father has it is hard to please them. Some two or three weeks ago Dr. Oldham gave him a treatment and he stated that he did not want another treatment from him.

We do not think he has improved in the last two or three weeks in fact he has been getting worse. As I understand both sides have been giving him trouble, but just now the left side seems to be giving him the most trouble.

However he has been taking electrical treatments and I am of the opinion they have not been beneficial. I feel satisfied that you have diagnosed the case correctly and believe that he would get results if he followed your suggestions, and I am going to use my very best efforts to have him do this. He has read the diagnosis and I believe he is satisfied with it.

I will let you know from time to time as to what progress I may make in carrying out instructions given. Wish to say that I thank you very much and will be glad to receive your statement for cost incurred by you in this matter.

R3. 5/23/25 EC’s letter:

Dear […]

I have yours of the 21st. I’m glad to know that you at least feel some satisfaction in the reading as was given for your father some days ago. I would offer this suggestion. Should he desire to see the physician here, I’d be very glad to do whatever I could to be of assistance to him, to make things as nice for him as possible while he’s here. I do know that this man has gotten some most remarkable results with the people he’s had since he has been here. If your father is able to stand the trip, I’m sure it would do him no harm to come and try this man out for a little while anyway. However, if he has had some treatments from Dr. Oldham and doesn’t feel satisfied that osteopathy, with the other things connected with it, would be of help, why of course it’s all out of the question. I certainly hope though that he’ll decide to do whatever is the best thing and that he will get results.

I shall certainly be glad to hear from him from time to time and know what progress he’s making, and I assure you if I can possibly be of service I’ll only be too glad to do so.

As regarding the statement for cost, we do not render any. The propagation of the work depends upon the contribution from those whom we try to be of assistance to. Our efforts are either worth something or they are nothing at all, and we leave it to the individuals themselves, depending upon them to respond according as their conscience and their worldly means allow them to do.

R4. 4/13/26 Mr. [304]‘s letter: “[3775] is still having very heavy drainage and keeps him very weak, he looks very well in the face and is really almost as heavy as he ever was, but weak and he says not feeling good one bit. I would like to know what you think of his case, just off hand I mean.”

R5. 4/23/26 Mr. [304]‘s letter: “[3775] is up and going but still having his trouble just as I explained to you; it seems a wonder to me how he keeps up, but he is looking pretty good, and wonderful considering the drainage he has all the time, but, I fear the time will come when he can’t overcome that so well as he is doing now.”

R6. 8/20/26 Son’s letter: “Father is just about the same as he was when you were here, not much change either way; he has lots of energy and goes about considerably.”

Things have been in such a turmoil with me since I returned that I do not know whether I answered your letter that I found when I returned or not. Anyway, I want to thank you, […] for the kindness shown us by yourself and by your wife during our sad hours [Death of EC’s mother]. I hadn’t met your wife since she was a little tiny girl, and I hope you won’t take it amiss when I tell you I fell in love with her, even during those sad times - her kindness and courtesy was so wonderful, an I assure you we all appreciate it more than we know how to tell you.

I want to thank you, too, for your interest and for your becoming a member in our Association. I am in hopes that the work that will be accomplished through this Association will be such that it will make you proud - not of me, but of having a part in such a benevolent work, and I feel, from the reports people are sending in, that such will be the case - for with better facilities, and with better means to serve others, we will be able to do more for them.

I am sorry to know from my father that your father has been having trouble again. I do not mean this, […] as I told you so, but I am sure you will remember that this warning was given in the information as was gotten on your father’s condition many months ago. I do wish that he could lay prejudice aside long enough to at least give the information as has been supplied, or may be given, opportunity to show what such WILL DO if applied in the life of the individual.
