This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 322 Grafton Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, this 18th day of November, 1924, in accordance with request made by Mr. Morton H. Blumenthal.

EC’s home on Time of Reading 322 Grafton Ave., 2:45 P. M. Dayton Time. Dayton, Ohio.

1. GC: You will have before you the psychic work of Edgar Cayce, the developing psychic forces in [137] [11/2/24 See 137-5, Q’s and A’s in regard to developing his psychic powers], all the work, and associations in persons and conditions to both of these, and also you will have before you the contemplated project of issuing a monthly paper bearing on matters of a psychic nature and on material gotten from these forces, and also you will have before you those persons who are trying to organize this paper and persons who may be associated with this paper. You will answer the questions that will now be asked relating to this in a very definite and explanatory manner. This is a matter of business as well as work of good and must be accomplished in a business-like manner. Your answers, therefore, will be specific and practical.

2. EC: Yes, we have these conditions and all associations as would, might be, and can be had with such an undertaking, for this we find covers a great deal of developing, and conditions would be according to the development in many individuals and the effect of their wills as would be exercised in such project work.

3. There enters also the relations with such work and the developing of same, with the business conditions in a material world. Hence the developing, the conditions, the outcome, of such may only be given as conditions have been, and are, and only relative conditions to the development in the many peoples and some individuals that such project work influence in a business and a material world, as related to those conditions that are manifested through phenomena.

4. Hence, again, only relative conditions may be given.

5. (Q) Is the present time the right time to organize and issue a paper? (A) Depending upon the character of paper published. The right time is when there is sufficient data for the public, individuals, groups, or masses, to be interested in data obtained. This, with the psychic forces, and developing forces in others, is a correct time to present such paper before the ones interested in the study of such as phenomena, and such as would bring good into the lives of many.

6. (Q) Is the present time right for the financial success of the paper? (A) Any time that such paper, or data in such paper, is of the nature as to give benefits to the peoples, such can be made, and would be, a financial success. The present time is the time a financial success may be made, either from such publication or by data for other publications. Best that both be conducted at once. However, the paper first should be published as a tri-yearly, and articles given to other publications, until such a time that the financial success would be assured from the readers and subscribers in every financial branch of same. This we find would require one year to so found and to propagate such work, by development of many that would be, and many that will be, by such publications and such data in such publication.

7. (Q) First there is the problem of printing or publication. Should we have some publisher issue the paper, or should we ourselves have paper printed and distributed? If a publisher, who should we approach on the matter? Give name and address of publisher. (A) Era Press, or any public utility press that makes a business of such publications or papers. These, and such work, is that wherein the association must use common sense and their own abilities, incensed by the desire for the good of many, and the publication for the first year should be compiled and distributed through a group, or association of such as interested in developing of such phenomena or work, and so conducted through the groups. As has been given, gather the group together that would be associated in such an undertaking, choose from that group those that would be associated in such work. From that number choose those who would take the responsibilities for such developing, relying ever on the fact that, so long as the good is adhered to, with first principles, the forces would supply that necessary to bring the greater success in financial, in good, in the results as would be shown.

8. (Q) If we are to do the work, tell us how to distribute the paper so as to bring us many subscriptions. (A) Through the channels as outlined; that is, those already interested from good obtained, first approach. Those who are interested from every phase are but the ensamples of gaining a large subscription for such undertakings, knowing with the first year’s work [you] gain subscriptions by such data as given for years to come, distributing same through every society organized for study of phenomena from every view- point, pertaining to mental, soul, spiritual development, such as we find in Psychology Clubs (mental); as in the study of spiritual phenomena. Groups, communities and the greater amount would be reached through those already interested by having obtained some assistance, or attempted. Help them understand that necessary to gain mental, soul, or spiritual development! Also through other publications, such as:

Scientific American, Success, American, Ladies’ Home Journal, Delineator. All such publications carry some phases of such phenomena, either through their own writers or through articles submitted, written regarding such development. These would gain the preliminary work for the success in a stupendous manner for paper when published monthly. Advertising in all magazines that cater to such phenomena and its manifestations in lives of individuals.

9. (Q) Is Linden Shroyer capable of handling this work? (A) Of the distribution, and of data to be kept for the development, yes. For writing such articles as would be acceptable in other publications, not yet. He may develop, if he would.

10. (Q) Has Shroyer had enough experience to carry this work through successfully? (A) As given and outlined, he has; for few have the insight into the necessary qualifications of those that would obtain the benefits of such manifested phenomena, and have sufficient business qualifications in data, in records, in keeping and qualifying same, to make the success as outlined.

11. (Q) Name the one who Edgar Cayce or Morton Blumenthal should broach on this matter, who could make this paper a success, if Linden Shroyer could not. Give his name and address. (A) Morton H. Blumenthal will make the success in qualifying the data for publication in this paper, or for the other magazines or papers that would carry such data or manifested phenomena. He would make the success - 74 Broadway, New York City, for we have given the outline necessary for this to be made the success financially, and in a business manner. The detail work done by Shroyer, the writing and qualifying of articles for publication in paper, or in other publication, should be qualified through Morton H. Blumenthal.

12. We are through for the present.

R1. On 11/26/24 at 1:30 P.M. EC left by train for Hopkinsville, Ky., to visit his family there. On 11/27/24 EC gave an emergency Physical Rdg. for his uncle Delbert D. Cayce, See 3775-1 and 2, with subsequent reports and validations extending to the present day. It was the elder son and grandson of this Delbert D. Cayce who spearheaded the 100th Edgar Cayce Centennial in Hopkinsville, Ky. during the whole month of March 1977. [See Source Key File #294 for A.R.E. NEWS of May, 1977 re 294-1.] D. D. Cayce III and William Turner (another Cayce - Major descendent) helped to organize the celebration. [See Source File Key for memorial booklet entitled EDGAR CAYCE’S HOME TOWN re 294-1.]

R2. EC arrived back in Dayton about 7:30 P.M. on 12/1/24. The next day GD left about 2:30 P.M. for Selma, Ala. (EC had Linden Shroyer accompany me as far as Cincinnati to make sure I made the right connections.) [My father had just died from a cerebral hemorrhage.]

R4. 12/5/24 Linden Shroyer’s ltr. to GD in Ala. for her father’s funeral:

Dear Gladys: I suppose by the time you receive my first letter you will be looking for some news from your friends at the Cayce Institute. Well, I mean to be true to my promise to write you often and give you the unadulterated news from here.

Have been at Cayce’s most of the time since you left; in fact am there now - 1:00 A.M. Friday, Dec. 5th, in your room writing this on your dresser. Why, I’ll tell you a little later.

Called Mr. Cayce when I returned [from Cincinnati] Tuesday evening at 10:30 to let him know that you were alright and on your way. Didn’t leave Cincinnati until 8:45, so had quite some time to wait. Went down town and back again ‘til train time. Saw a friend of mine in the lobby of the Gibson Hotel and we came back to Dayton together. A gentleman friend, Gladys.

Came over here Wednesday morning [3/3/24] and began to call everyone possible to get a stenographer. Many came but just one was chosen. Some job, though, as you can probably realize. Took no reading in the morning but Mr. Iams, his wife and two friends of his came over from Columbus in the afternoon (without any pre-arrangements as usual) and we had two of the applicants take the reading which was on the young man [77-1] who came over with Mr. Iams. One was a middle-aged lady, the other a young girl. Both got it down and were to write it off and bring it in the following morning. The younger lady could not read her notes after she went home so just gave it up. The other, a Mrs. Banning, was very good and she is the one now engaged. She is a widow and her husband was a medical doctor. I think she will do very well but can hardly tell as yet. We are hoping, however.

Had a reading at noon today [Thursday, 12/4/24] on Mr. Wyrick’s well… [See 4905-8.] I was the stenographer for that reading as he didn’t want the lady to take it. Had to write it longhand, but I got it all. However, I couldn’t take your place for all readings.

Those two were all we’ve had, so - with that information - I’m carrying out another part of my agreement and will let you know the program as we go along.

Now then, I’m over here all night tonight on account of illness of our good and wonderful friend “Judge”. Now don’t worry, Gladys; everything will be alright. Dr. Lydic came out about 11:30 and gave him a treatment and he is apparently much better. Will be sure to let you know how he is.

Mrs. Cayce just talked to Dave Kahn at Lexington, Ky., and he is sending a check tomorrow which will probably help considerably.

Realizing as nearly as possible what you have been through, Gladys, want you to know that we are thinking of you and are with you in spirit always.

Just try real hard to be brave and don’t lose courage. Remember the sun is shining just beyond and no matter how hard things may seem your good work will not be unrewarded. Think of all the beautiful, wonderful things you have learned and which you have made a part of yourself. Remember your friends are here waiting at all times to help when you call, and in the end we will accomplish that which we have set out to do.

Mr. Brown, Mr. Lane, Dave Kahn have expressed their sympathy. Mr. and Mrs. Cayce, Hugh Lynn, Violet all wish me to remember them to you and will write later.

Hope you and your mother, sisters and brothers are well. Let me hear from you real soon and I’ll write just as soon as possible.

R5. 12/9/24 Linden Shroyer’s ltr. to GD in Ala. for her father’s funeral:

Dear Gladys: Heard today from Mr. Cayce that you would be ready to leave there Thursday. That’s great - but I think this will reach you before you leave.

Have been over every day since you left and today we were able to get a reading for “Judge” which was the first given since he’s been sick. He has to have suggestions given to him while asleep, some osteopathic treatments and to eat the things given. [See 294-13.] Had a wire from Mr. Wyrick this morning and seemingly he was up in the air, so, immediately following Mr. Cayce’s (own) reading there came one (volunteered) for Mr. Wyrick on his well, which dispelled all alarm. Sent the whole thing to him right away by wire. This reading was given without a suggestion to obtain it. Judge had intended to give it this afternoon.

So this afternoon he gave a Ck. Physical for little [4281], Dr. Al C. Layne’s wife’s niece. That is all we’ve had since my other letter.

Dave Kahn was in for a couple of hours yesterday, then went on to N.Y. Brought his girl out - Miss Lucille Kahn, who I believe is a distant relative of his. She is playing this week at the Victory Theatre; in fact has the feminine leading role with Otis Skinner. She came back today with another girl of the cast to hear little [4281]‘s reading. So, tonight, all the Cayces are her guests at the play. First time Judge has been out.

Mrs. Banning is getting along about as well as can be expected with recording the readings. Only works couple hours in the morning and a couple in afternoon. Of course nothing could be done for a few days, but now he will be able to set dates for a few appointments. He expects to give a couple of readings for Mr. Blumenthal tomorrow, which of course we await with interest.

I’m going to do a small audit job for the next 3 or 4 days so will only be able to get over here in the evening.

Hope you are all well and able to get all your arrangements made. Will be looking for you here soon.

Hugh Lynn completed his debate last night and is rearin’ to go.

R6. 8/1/71 GD’s note: Russell Hogeland visiting in Va. Beach told me that his friend, daughter of Mrs. A. M. Banning who served as steno. for EC a few days in early Dec. 1924, had heard her mother speak of taking down a few of EC’s readings. The daughter is now married to a homeopathic physician, Dr. M. D. Panos.
