This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of March, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [4012], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:05 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Maryland.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, called [4012].

3. As we find there are disturbing conditions which prevent the normal physical functioning of the body. These are very definite as to their sources and causes. There has been intemperance in the use of those things for body-functioning or body-building. This has caused first a rebellion in the assimilating system and then those conditions in the gall duct area, and the incoordination of the circulation between liver and kidneys.

4. There are congestions then in the area of the gall duct and the activity of the liver. This causes inability of proper assimilation of foods because of the inactivity of the gastric flows through the duodenum, the jejunum, the gall duct, the liver and the spleen with those activities in the areas; causing a swelling or flatulence for the body when foods, especially any fats or starches are taken in the body. These also cause the liver spots or blemishes indicated on portions of the body, especially on exposed areas where the air pressure is indicated; as face, neck, hands, arms and lower limbs.

5. These as we find may be eliminated either through operative measures or a longer and safer period of using these applications:

Begin with hot Castor Oil Packs over the whole liver and caecum area, or extending from the lower portion of the rib on the right side to the lower caecum and extending half way across the abdomen. Use three to four thicknesses of flannel, old flannel preferably, thoroughly saturated with Castor Oil. Apply directly to the body, warm, covering with an oil cloth to prevent soiling the linens, and then an electric pad. Keep these on for an hour and a half each day for five days in succession.

7. After the third day begin taking internally small quantities of Olive Oil every two or three hours. To be sure do not disturb the body at night to give same, but do take during the waking state half to a teaspoonful every three hours, until there is a full evacuation through the alimentary canal.

8. Rest then, from these applications for a period of three days and then repeat.

9. After the second series have two colonic irrigations to cleanse the colon. These should be several days apart, but cleanse the colon of all fecal matter and especially of the mucous that will be in portions of same.

10. Rest then a week and repeat the whole procedure.

11. Then, not before, begin osteopathic adjustments and empty the gall bladder. It will require some five to six treatments to prepare the body before the gall duct is emptied osteopathically. Such a one as Smith we would indicate to do this correcting.

12. Do these and we will gain better equilibrium and bring better conditions for the body, eliminating the sources of these disturbances.

14. (Q) Has this been the cause of my skin taking on the brownish tinge? (A) Just as indicated. This is especially noticeable on the exposed portions to air - or on face, hands and limbs.

15. (Q) What should be done to correct bleeding and sore gums? (A) The treatment indicated will aid a great deal, but for the specific condition we would use Ipsab. Massage the gums with this, using a small tuft of cotton or just the finger - inside and out. Then rinse the mouth. Do this in the beginning about once a day for three to four days, or do it each day until the body has been purified especially through the oil packs, the Olive Oil and the colonics. Then it may be used about once a week.

16. (Q) [By GC] Is the bottle of Ipsab I hold in my hand prepared correctly?* [See GD’s note at bottom of next page.] (A) It will do for this job!

17. (Q) Do I need a tonic? (A) Not until the body is cleansed. After the body has been cleansed we would use a tonic in the form of the combination of vitamins that may supplement the diet. Those combining the vitamins and minerals would be preferable, such as Pearl vitamins or the combination of the B-1 complex, or Miles Laboratories combination of vitamins.

Godfrey who had just made a new batch of the Ipsab based on formula given him 2/14/42 in 1800-34. He had left a sample with Mrs. Cayce so that she could ask about it in the next Reading that recommended Ipsab, which happened to be 4012-1.]

R1. 5/27/44 [4012]‘s letter to EC: “On the twenty-first day of March of this year, you gave me a Reading, 4012-1, in which one of the things mentioned was ‘Ipsab’.

“So far my search has proved fruitless, so Dr. Emil Smith suggested I contact you.

“I will gladly pay for this extra service as he says it is necessary to follow your instructions to the letter to get results.”

R2. 6/1/44 EC’s letter to [4012]: “I have yours of the 27th.

“No, we have never attempted to put Ipsab in the drug stores. It is made to be sold only to Members of the Association.

“You will be able to obtain it from Mr. Marsden Godfrey, 2709 Lafayette Boulevard, Norfolk, Virginia. He is the one who manufactures it. I think it sells for $1.00 a bottle.

“I am sure that if you will use this as is suggested, you will get results. We haven’t seen it fail in over forty years since the first time it was given for Pyorrhea or Riggs’ disease.

“Thank you a lot and we hope you will get real results. We will appreciate your letting us hear from you from time to time.”

R3. 6/24/44 [4012]‘s letter to EC: “According to your Bulletin you want to hear from Members who have had readings if any unusual feelings manifested themselves during that time.

“At the time nothing unusual was sensed - however, since then an alarming symptom has developed - diagnosed as ‘Iritis’, a disease of the eyes.

“I am about halfway through my treatment… Could it be a condition caused by changes within my body due to the treatments or do I have to look elsewhere for the cause?

“My eyes are red, inflamed and almost swollen shut and don’t seem to respond to anything I have been advised to use.”

R4. 7/11/44 EC’s letter to [4012]: “Thank you for yours of the 24th.

“I am sure that if you will follow through exactly as was suggested for you, you will get real results.

“I know it is possible that it may be wrong, or it may be more possible that the applications were not made just as suggested. If you would like to have a Check reading made, write me and let’s check up on it and see whether it is the fault of the application or the directions.

“Thanking you and hoping that we may indeed be the means of a service…”

R5. 8/28/44 [4012]‘s letter to EC: “Dr. Emil Smith, the osteopath whom you recommended in your Reading of March 21st just past, has advised me to write for a Check reading since my condition has gotten worse, apparently, instead of improving after taking twelve treatments from him after concluding the series you advised in your Reading.

“I am reluctant to do this because I feel that you have done your part, and I have known for a long time that I am one of those individuals who do not respond to any kind of treatment or medicine - and I have tried everything.

“However, he seems very desirous of helping me since I am the first one of your patients who has not gotten results.

“The fault may lie in the Olive Oil. I tried all over Baltimore and finally located some that was supposed to be real Olive Oil - but pressed from an inferior grade and green olives. I mentioned the fact to Dr. Smith before I started the treatments but he seemed to think that so long as it was Olive Oil it didn’t matter.

“Do you think it advisable to continue with the osteopathic treatments since the first series didn’t work - he thinks I should but I don’t agree. However, will continue ‘til I hear from you.

“My main trouble is acute constipation but you have all literature in file to which you can refer.

“I noticed you didn’t mention constipation in your Reading but it was implied since the liver and gall bladder would be contributing factors. I also had a bad case of hemorrhoids at one time, which I believe have left an obstruction in my lower bowel.

“Am sorry to take up your time any further but am following Dr. Smith’s instructions since I have put myself in his care.”

R6. 2/17/45 [4012]‘s letter to A.R.E.: “I have a letter before me dated Sept. 5th, advising me of the date of my new Reading, set for April 20th.

“My previous Reading was last March 21st, from which I obtained no satisfactory results.

“I followed your advice and called on Mrs. [2803] who at one time took the same treatment and had very satisfactory results. During our conversation I discovered that her condition was very similar to mine.

“She gave me several tips about obtaining real olive oil but after having it tested by an Italian who owns olive groves in Sicily it was not the real thing and he says will not be obtainable until after the war.

“Also, I did not have an electric heating pad - I used a hot water bag which she says does not keep the temperature even enough. I also cannot get an electric pad anywhere.

“So, since I am sure the prescription was right, I did not have the right equipment and ingredients with which to carry it out - which was no fault of yours.

“So please cancel the Check reading and give the time to someone else and I will try to get along until such time that I can get the necessary things to apply the treatment.”

R7. 3/1/45 [4012]‘s reply to A.R.E. Questionnaire: In regard to the amount which I have deposited with you, I would like to do the following, as I have checked: (X) Accept the amount which I have on deposit with you as a contribution to the work of the Association, in which I wish to keep an Associate Membership waiving claim to a Reading but desiring to further the program of the Association as it presents to others that which has been found helpful.

Comments: “I have already had a Reading so I don’t feel that the Association owes me anything. I did not know that Mr. Cayce had passed on until I received your letter. The world has lost a valuable citizen.” [GD’s note: She enclosed money for subscription to Weekly Readings Extracts.]

R8. 2/22/49 [4012]‘s letter: “I am an Associate Member of the Association and I have turned to you for help, if it is available without going through mountains of documents.

“In all his years of Readings, Mr. Cayce must have at some time given the cure for conjunctivitis, commonly known as Pink Eye. I have suffered with this ailment for six years and have reached the point where in desperation I turned to you, for I know this is irregular for you couldn’t grant every request which comes in.

“I have been to five specialists, with no results. The last one took my tonsils out; I still have the Pink Eye.

“I will gladly pay for the information if you have it at hand.”

R9. 7/10/49 [4012]‘s letter: “In reply to your letter of July 6th concerning benefits derived from Potato Poultices for inflamed eyes, I will try to tell you as briefly as possible and to the point:

“I have suffered for five years with an ailment which was pronounced Pink Eye - Conjunctivitis - an allergy, etc., by our very famous specialists here in Baltimore. Two of them even had the nerve to tell me there was nothing wrong with my eyes; I only needed glasses.

“After following your instructions I have been able to continue work and have not suffered the intense pain caused by the itching and burning - neither have they been red and inflamed.

“However, right now I am having difficulty getting old Irish potatoes - doesn’t seem to be even one ‘old’ potato in Baltimore - and I am afraid my trouble is coming back; and I am sure I had it under control and would have eventually cleared up.

“So I could heartily recommend it for anyone with inflamed, sore eyes - it was a Godsend to me. I don’t think I could have endured the agony much longer.”

GD’s note: Copied above report and 7/13/49 report from 3884-1 and put into extract folder on EYES. Also copied and sent to Mrs. [4012] extract from 20-1, 2 re: Glyco-Thymoline eyewash.

R10. 2/15/50 [4012]‘s reply to EC Readings Health Extract Form:

Type of Health Extract Tried: “Grated old Irish potatoes” [3884-1]; No. of patients: “1”; Variations in Time required for Cures: “No cure - only relief”; Describe How Treatment was used: “Poultice of raw potatoes over eyes several times daily and at night”; Results: “Kept condition cleared up enough that I could continue work all summer”; Comments: “I have since taken allergy tests which showed up positive and am now taking injections. However, the potatoes gave me the only relief in five years but couldn’t clear up the allergy. I hope the injections are the answer. I can understand how potatoes could permanently clear up some forms of conjunctivitis, since my particular kind was an allergy it had to be removed but I thank God for the potatoes until I found the cause.

“I am also enclosing a little money which I promised before Christmas toward the expense fund of your Foundation. Wish I could make it $500 instead, for you are doing a fine work and I wish I could join one of your study groups in this city, but my working hours make it impossible. I have never been able to take the Castor Oil Treatments prescribed by Mr. Cayce several years ago. I can’t do it myself and can’t get anyone to help me, although I have offered to pay them, and I still think it would clear up my troubles for all my trouble, I believe, begins with my liver - it never has been any good.”

R11. 7/24/50 [4012]‘s reply to routine Questionnaire, with which she enclosed $5 A.R.E. Membership fee:

“I will try to make this report as brief as possible and, at the same time, understandable.

“As I told you before, I went through with the Castor Oil treatments, but I am sure the olive oil wasn’t any good and I couldn’t get an electric Pad. I had to use a thermo Pad, which wasn’t satisfactory at all, and I had to do it all myself, which is almost impossible to get good results. You really need help to take those treatments. I took about ten osteopathic treatments but of course nothing happened, for the previous treatments had not been administered correctly. I didn’t follow up with the vitamins for I didn’t think it would be any use. I have tried many times to get some doctor in this town to help me out for I would still like to go through with it but I can’t get any co-operation. I suppose you know we have the ‘worst’ doctors in the world right here in Baltimore.

“I have been using the Ipsab with good results. I had a very inflamed condition of the gums on one side - above - it has arrested and almost cleared it up.

“The Pink Eye has about cleared up. It had been pronounced an allergy and I even took injections and maybe they did help a little but this summer it flared up again so I vent to work with potatoes. I couldn’t get the right kind of potatoes last summer but this year I was lucky enough to get just the right kind and it worked like a charm; and I also used Slippery Elm bark - alternating the two and my eyes are about cleared up…”
