This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the Zentgraf home, 400 St. Paul”s Ave., Staten Island, N.Y., this 5th day of December, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [412], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. [412], Mrs. [457], and Mrs. [494].]
Time of Reading 5:55 to 6:15 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [412]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, in the main conditions are in a better relationship as one to another in the functioning of the organs of the system, though there needs to be precautions taken as respecting inclinations that are apparent.
-
First, as the body finds, and as the body may experience, consistency in its activities - in its relationships to the necessary physical reactions through direct or specific activities for allowing the body through physical as well as mental and spiritual reaction to exercise its influence through the system - brings a much nearer normalcy in the physical forces of the body.
-
For the disturbances indicated that make for inclinations through the circulatory forces as related to the organs of the sensory system, as has been indicated heretofore for the body in the organs’ activity - as the eyes, the ears, the vocal reactions, the feelings and the sensory forces; all need rather the specific exercises, which if adhered to in a consistent manner would add to the efficiency of the organs’ activity and thus produce for the body the much nearer to normal reactions.
-
For three to five minutes night and morning we would take such exercises.
-
In the morning, for the upper portions of the body; the head and neck exercises, these taken first. Then the muscular reactions of the arms as related to the activity of the body ABOVE the diaphragm area.
-
Then in the evening before retiring we would take the exercises of a circular motion of the lower portion of torso, the activity of the lower limbs and the activity of all portions below the diaphragm area specifically. These, as we find, would relieve the tensions, and areas where there are the inclinations for the lower digestive system, especially as related to the hepatics, would be materially aided.
-
We find that the occasional use also of the Sweat Baths would be beneficial; to prevent the inclinations for cold or congestion to cause the activity to the superficial circulation that produces or tends to produce superacidity to the system.
-
These adhered to, as we find, with the correct thinking, the correct diet, will bring the much nearer to normal physical reactions for this body, [412].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What is cause and cure of feet condition? (A) The inclinations for the activities upon the feet to make for greater pressures in the axis of the lower lumbar area.
Hence, as indicated, if there is the activity of the drawing of the feet up, the circular motion of the body so as to make for retentions in the circulatory forces to the lumbar axis, we will find we will relieve these tensions.
Standing flat upon the feet, gently rise upon the toes; do this for some six to eight to ten to fifteen times, gently; at the same time raising the arms gently with same during this lower portion of the activities. This will make for the proper circulation through these portions of the body.
Do that.
- (Q) Is this Athlete’s Foot? (A) Rather the disturbance of the circulation in same. Also for the activities of the feet, after the exercise, use a massage with an equal combination of Olive Oil and Tincture of Myrrh (heating the Oil to add the Myrrh). Massage all the body will absorb of this through the toes, across the instep and THOROUGHLY into the soles of the feet. This will not only act as a local application for help but will strengthen the limbs.
Do this.
- (Q) What causes accumulation of wax in ear, and what is the cure? (A) As has been given, the head and neck exercises. Owing to the static conditions as produced in the sensory forces of the system, we have a slowing up - or the inclinations for the lack of the removal from the system of those poisons that tend to accumulate in the superficial circulation.
Hence the head and neck exercises as well as occasionally the Fume Baths. As indicated, this will produce a better coordination between the circulations and prevent the body from retaining waste forces, as it were, in the superficial circulation, and lessen the inclinations for acidity that produces or allows for building up of cold or congestion.
- (Q) Does indigestion cause the occasional attacks of vomiting and perspiration? (A) All of this, as we find, comes from static conditions through the portions of the body as indicated, to the superficial circulation primarily, to the deeper circulation as related to the hepatics. Also the heaviness is caused at times, and pains occur across the lower portion of the back just at the edge of the ribs and extending down at times to the sacral area.
But if the exercises are taken, and the circulation made more coordinant, we will find these inclinations for the digestive forces to produce disturbance will be eliminated from the system.
Removing the causes of same, we remove the effects as produced by the inclinations indicated.
-
(Q) If the glasses the body is wearing were rose-colored, would they be correct for his eyes? (A) These would be much preferable especially if they were of the toric shape or form.
-
(Q) Is graying of hair a scalp condition which should be corrected by some tonic? (A) Rather a circulation, and especially to the superficial circulation.
If the exercises are taken consistently, the circulation will be changed properly. They will not be efficient just to take for two or three days, or take one day and because of being busy or you haven’t quite time not take them the next, or to take them a day or two and then leave off! They will not be efficient unless taken consistently each night and morning for a period of a week or two weeks, then they may be left off for a period of three to four days - then begin and take again; the upper portion in the morning, the lower portion in the evening. For the upper exercises will tend to clear the head, tend to clear the circulatory forces through the activities and make for more efficiency through the period of the day.
While the lower exercises of evening, and especially to the limbs, will tend to make for a releasing of the static conditions produced by the activity during the day, allowing for better rest and thus making for faster and better recuperation.
Do those consistently.
- (Q) Should any tonic be used? (A) As we find, preferably the tonic should be through the diet; for other tonics would of themselves leave drosses that MAKE more of the very influences that should be eliminated from this body.
As indicated, the proper exercises, the occasional Fume Bath - and this means once a week, or once in ten days, will be the better tonic for the body.
In the Fume Bath [Fume Gown manufactured by Dr. William M. Berg, Ph.T., N.Y.C.] put about half a teaspoonful of Oil of Wintergreen to a pint of water. Stay in this for five to ten to fifteen minutes. As the body takes same the more often it will make for a great superficial circulation. To be sure, it will cause a great deal of perspiration. Yet the body should rubdown thoroughly afterwards, and a gentle massage or application of rub alcohol would prevent any inclinations for cold or congestion. These should be taken just before retiring - and watch the body sleep and rest better!
-
(Q) What causes the gland behind the right ear to swell at times, usually after eating, and what is the remedy? (A) The poor circulation, and the applications for same are those that have been indicated.
-
(Q) What causes occasional sharp pains on right side? (A) The circulation and the static influences from conditions in the lumbar axis. The exercises, the baths and the rubs will relieve the conditions.
Do that.
- (Q) Is smoking injurious for the body? (A) Smoking, to be sure, produces a lessening of the tension as related to the general nervous system. Too much smoking, to be sure, is harmful. A moderation of same is NOT harmful.
After meals, and not more than ten to fifteen a day.
-
(Q) What type of cigarette would be best? (A) Those that carry less of the influences that are harsh or irritating to the body. As we find, those that have more of the raw tobacco that is clear and clean are the better. In cigarettes, the Piedmont is the best.
-
(Q) Is there anything I should do to make me better fitted for inventive development? (A) As we find, when the mind is kept clear it allows the better mental reactions; and all of the inventive influences or all of the recording to the mental self of the influences from without are the more active in a more perfectly balanced mind, and a more efficient physical body.
Of course, then, the periods of meditation, when there is the greater union or unification of the spiritual and mental and physical self, ARE the conditions that are more conducive to the greater spiritual development towards the mental applications for inventive activity.
Do these in the manner and in the ways that have been indicated, and we will find a much nearer normal body - for ALL activities, either spiritual, mental or physical.
- We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 3/24/38 He requested physical reading for Mrs. [1569].
R2. 9/30/38 Wire: “Mail duplicate my last physical [412-10] to arrive tomorrow if possible, also name sweat bath equipment manufacturer.”
R3. 11/2/38 Wife [457]‘s letter:
”…First I want to thank you very much for sending the copy of [412]‘s reading.
“The condition of his feet had not cleared up, but I believe this is due to the fact that he did not carry out the reading fully at the time. He applied the oil which was the direct treatment, but did not take the time and energy for the exercises and fume baths.
“During the summer his feet improved considerably probably because the body skin is more active at that season. But this fall the condition got worse again, and this time we have done something about the sweat baths at least. That is the first thing I wanted to write you about. We got in touch with Dr. Berg as you suggested and they sent us the enclosed circular on the Vapobath. However, [412] had seen the advertisement of the Health-Glo people here in the neighborhood. He looked at it and decided that although it cost a little more, it was better because, for one thing, the robe does not come in contact with the body. I do not know whether the chair and pot is included in the other price. You will note that the circular is rather indefinite on that subject. I’ll find out before I mail this letter. As far as the other is concerned we bought it and it is very satisfactory. You can keep the circulars for your records. I have another copy.”
[11/4/38 EC’s letter: “I like the cabinet better than the gown - it is much more convenient if one has plenty of room. The gown is better where room is limited. I have tried them both.”]
“Now I have a request to make. Could you arrange another Check Physical for [412]? Here at the office, of course. We want to know if there is anything else he can do to alleviate this condition of the feet. The one foot is all crusty and in one place, oozing a liquid continuously. Perhaps some other ointment besides the Oil and Myrrh. Or a blood cleansing tea to drink. Check that we are doing things correctly in sweat baths, oil treatment and exercises.
“Haven’t heard anything from the family [255]‘s, since the excitement over there, [[275] and [276]] except one letter to [452]. They are in Munich now and the girls are having lessons in music.
“We here are working very hard, from six in the morning to eight or nine at night. Might ask about diet in [412]‘s case.
“What foods he should eat more of.
“Hope everything is going fine with you…”
