This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of July, 1929, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [4124].

Time of Reading 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. L.I., N.Y. (Body and enquiring mind, questions on business associations and regarding son, [960].)

1. EC: We have the body, the enquiring mind, [4124]. This we have had before, also those associations and surroundings as respecting the body.

2. (Q) Will my business take care of me and my family’s future as we are, as I am conducting it? If not, what changes are suggested? (A) What business is this?

3. (Q) [4124] business. (A) Well, this business taken care of, conducted in a manner - very little of change would be suggested as at present conducted - this is not as profitable a business - but either conduct the business or conduct things outside of it! That would be the suggestion as WE would have for the conditions. Change these so they read correctly, if you would ask them! In the conditions as surround the body and the business, Boutwell [?] and Bonticelli [?] would be ones to consider as those whom the body would be able to approach or begin negotiations for a coalition or consolidation as would make better conditions for that line in which the body is engaged, but for the BODY’S own best development, develop the BUSINESS as it is, and as it HAS been conducted before, and these would be the more satisfactory.

4. (Q) Is there a larger manufacturer of artificial ribbons who would be willing to do business with me? If so, who is suggested? (A) As has been given. Consider the questions as being asked! Keep your mind on your business here!

5. (Q) Will the body’s business improve for the balance of the year? if not, what shall he do? (A) If the body applies self, as has just been given and outlined - for the body could apply self to the business and he would be able to MAKE it improve!

6. (Q) Are there any prospects of the body selling his property in Bayside? (A) Very good. This, as we find, may be consummated in September.

7. (Q) Are there any suggestions regarding the stocks the body holds that might help to recuperate losses? (A) Some of these as are held are of a very speculative nature. Some of these are not worth very much unless the body can so arrange the business and affairs to be held for some time. Changes in individual holdings might assist, yet would necessitate even more losses at the present time. However, those that the body understands something of the nature of the business that is represented by same, would be well to hold.

8. (Q) Regarding [960], what can be done to improve his hair? (A) Not much.

9. (Q) What can be done to improve his posture? (A) Only get that in the individual’s own development that it IS necessary and in keeping with that he wishes to improve same. Or it may come through the training as should be the surroundings, or as the ensample for the development of the body.

10. (Q) Are the osteopathic treatments suggested by Dr. Muncie important and will they help his hearing? (A) They will!

11. (Q) What else, other than what we have done, is suggested for [960]‘s hearing? (A) Would that as has been suggested be done, in the manner AS suggested, instead of partially, we would find quite different conditions.

12. (Q) Where can the radio appliance as suggested be obtained? and can [960] apply it himself, and how? (A) As is outlined how this can be applied, and in the place where same was told to obtain it - from the manufacturer, from Brown.

13. (Q) Any further advice? (A) Not at present.

R2. 7/15/29 [4124]‘s letter:

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.

My dear Mr. Cayce:

Thank you for sending me the result of my reading which I received this morning.

After going over same several times it would seem to me that the reading indicates that my present state of business is being run satisfactory, but it refers to some attention on my part that I am giving outside of my business.

Do you think it might refer to giving attention to the stock market? Please let me know just how you read the interpretation.

Regarding [960], you give the name as Brown, manufacturer of radio appliance and that same has been given us before, which I think is not the case.

I received a letter from Miss Sara Atkinson under date of April 19th and June 18th. I wrote her, which you will find in your files under April 30th that we could not locate this machine, that is why I asked the question again in my reading, in which the name Brown is stated.

Have tried all sources today to locate some manufacturer by the name of Brown but I am unable to do so.

I am also unable to locate the two names given in my reading as Boutwell, Bonticelli, regarding my business and cannot find them listed anywheres.

I would deeply appreciate your giving me your version of the reading and what you might suggest how to find the name Brown as manufacturer of the machine for [960] as well as the two names mentioned in my behalf.

R3. 7/17/29 EC’s letter to [4124]:

Dear Mr. [4124]:

I don’t know just how to account for the seeming misunderstanding, from your letter of the 15th - that is, especially regarding the Radio Appliance. Possibly I had felt that you were coming and had neglected to say as much as I should have about the readings as they were sent you. But let’s see if I can get this straightened out for you.

As I understand from the information given, your business was in a satisfactory condition, but that it would be necessary for you to give some personal attention to make it improve in the way and manner as you desire. I don’t know that the reference was made to the stock market or not. That is possibly better for your own interpretation. As I have understood, Mr. [4124], the information in the readings is to assist an individual in making choices when they have had thought or experience for themselves in given directions, and is of the spiritual side of life a great deal more than purely material. While material things, we know, show the trend of thought of the mental and spiritual man, not that the spiritual may be CHANGED - but that the MENTAL man may be changed by the SPIRITUAL side of himself, and thus the MATERIAL things be the positive results of his way of thinking and acting. I don’t believe any reading will ever tell a man how to go out and do a day’s work - it will never tell you even what stock to buy. If a man has had an experience MENTALLY as to whether he should, for his own best interests, purchase this or that stock, it might tell him which would be best of the two - but it wouldn’t tell you what the stock price was going to be, save as in a GENERAL way - and that might change the next day. That’s why I was so desirous of talking this thing over with you. I believe we could get a real understanding of this thing. So many people have, I believe, the wrong conception - not that I’m trying to hedge - I don’t mean that at all, but we are dealing with very VITAL things or we are fooling ourselves. Now, regarding the appliance for [960] - the Radio Appliance

Mr. Thos. B. Brown, 139 W. 2nd St., Dayton, Ohio. You will be able to obtain this from him. I do not understand why Mrs. Atkinson didn’t notify you of this, nor why we shouldn’t have notified you ourselves - for I was under the impression that we had.

Now regarding the names Boutwell and Bonticello, I couldn’t tell you anything about these. I don’t know such people myself. I don’t know where to tell you to look for them. Possibly if you keep on the lookout you will find each individuals, or such individuals will be presenting themselves so that you will be able to take advantage of this.

Trust you are feeling fine yourself, and I hope it isn’t going to be long before you will come down and see us. Can’t you come over the next week end? With kindest personal regards, I am

Dear Mr. [4124]:

Am very sorry your letter of April 20th, has not been answered sooner.

The Radio-Active Appliance, suggested in [960]‘s reading of March 19th, 1929, may be obtained from Mr. Thomas B. Brown, 139 West Second Street, Dayton, Ohio.

R5. 9/30/29 EC’s letter to [4124]:

My dear Mr. [4124]:

Replying to yours of the 23rd, I was in New York last Tuesday for a few hours - was unable to reach you at your office by phone, and didn’t have the time to get around that way, as I was very busy all the while.

I wish you could persuade Mrs. [3862] to come down to the hospital for treatment. That would be the ONLY way to get this carried out properly, just like it should be for your boy - [960], and we are going to get that in shape sometime before long so that we will have him here next summer, if you don’t get something done before that time.

Now, regarding the further questions on the business, Mr. [4124] - I don’t think it is possible for us to get those in any time in the near future. In fact, we have recently made a ruling, or the Board has recently made a ruling that there will be no more BUSINESS readings until we can take care of the innumerable number of physical requests that we have on hand. We have built the institution, at a great big expense, and this institution is a place to carry out the suggestions that are made in the readings, and those that come to it should have the preference above everything else, for physical betterment; consequently, we are having to give our time more and more to that - and, as I am limited in my abilities to give these, it of course makes the outside work come less and less. I regret this, for such conditions as your very own - for I would love to be of some help to you and Mrs. […] if possible. You know, I think a great deal of you - more than I’ve known how to tell you, and it has hurt to see you not get any more out of it for your boy than you have so far. I don’t believe it is the fault of the readings, and I don’t believe it is the fault of the desire on yours and Mrs. […]‘s part. It’s just the inability to get the cooperation of the physicians we have been able to get to help us out thus far - but, we will certainly get the proper cooperation in the institution, and that’s the place where we can carry them out much better.

R6. 3/18/31 [4124]‘s letter:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I received your recent letter [See 254-54 Reports - EC wrote letters to many of his friends telling of closing of Cayce Hospital and necessity of dissolving A.N.I.] and regret to learn the necessity of its contents, although I am certain it will work out to your satisfaction.

Don’t you think it might be advisable, if possible, for you to come to New York and seek the advice and cooperation of your friends here, which might be of help to you in determining your future course? I can assure you that it will be my purpose and pleasure to do all I can, although I must admit that my financial conditions will not permit me to do what I would otherwise love to offer.

R7. 3/21/31 EC’s letter to [4124]:

Dear Mr. [4124]:

Many thanks for yours of the 18th. I certainly hope that you will find it convenient to be here on the 28th. I am sure it will be a most plausible and reasonable thing to interview and discuss with my friends in New York the plans for the future. However, I feel just as sure that these plans should have some definite shape before I present them - for, as we look about us and consider life and truth, Life of every character in the earth has been given by God Himself that wherewith from within for its OWN propagation. Just so with all the works of men. If it carries with it God’s love, God’s divine sanction, the work must have within itself that necessary seed for ITS OWN propagation. It isn’t so much the money or financial aid necessary - though, to be sure, that also is necessary - but if the work IS right, the MORAL support from individuals’ own ideals made one with God, the work will carry itself on. Isn’t that true? After the meeting I expected to be in New York and to talk with many of my friends there, for this - as you know - is to be only a preliminary meeting, but the ideals should be set forth at this time.

R8. 11/24/31 EC’s letter to [4124]:

Dear Mr. [4124]:

It would be very hard to tell you how much we appreciate the kindly feeling, faith and confidence, you showed by coming to us at the time and in the way that you did. We have a very meagre way of expressing it, and can only say “Thank you” but we hope that we can so conduct our own lives as to always merit such faith and confidence as you expressed.

I know you will be glad that we were received with open arms by our friends on our return to Norfolk and Virginia Beach. The greater number, of course, blame the same as many in New York did. I have spoken to our Norfolk lawyers and they feel very much as the New York ones did. We also had a letter from Mr. Uttal regarding the suit. However, we asked for advice and counsel through a reading as to the future conducting of the Association, and we will send you a copy of what we received. This will be ready for distribution in the next few days. I’m sure you will be interested in just what is done in every direction here. [See 254-60.]

R9. 11/25/31 [4124]‘s letter to GD:

Dear Miss Davis:

Mr. Uttal telephoned me today that he had written you but had not heard whether or not he should proceed with the papers.

If you have changed your mind about your suit, which perhaps can be easily understood, still it is regrettable insofar that it is due to conditions of this kind that certain newspapers have no fear of libeling themselves and printing anything that they desire, regardless how it might affect one’s reputation. I do not want to urge you, should you have changed your mind, as you and I discussed and if the money should be secondary it does seem to me that it would at least be beneficial for you to receive an apology of some kind. Of course, Mr. Cayce’s situation is different, with him it should be a question of money only.

I do hope that you have all recovered from this very unfortunate happening and that you are all feeling well and trusting to hear from you, I remain with kindest personal regards to you and Mr. and Mrs. Cayce and Junior as well.

R10. 12/5/31 GD’s letter to [4124]:

Dear Mr. [4124]:

Please pardon me for such a delay in answering your letter of November 25th. We have been rushed almost night and day since getting back, trying to get straight and started on our regular routine. However, the busier I am the better I like it. That week in New York of just waiting and doing nothing was a terrible experience for me, more because I was idle than anything else I think.

Mr. [4124], words cannot express my appreciation of your interest and effort in our behalf. There are certain things which cannot be measured by words, nor by dollars and cents.

We are enclosing a copy [254-60] of the information we received on the New York experience, and I hope you will - as you read - see and understand why we are not bringing suit. As for the apology, I don’t even care about that. Our friends will understand, and it doesn’t matter about the others.

I hope things are going well with you and yours. Won’t you try to make a visit to Virginia Beach in the near future? I think you would like it down here. We are having some very lovely weather just now.

R11. 1/3/34 EC’s letter to [4124]‘s wife re rdg. for their daughter, [475]:

My dear Mrs. […]:

It was indeed a pleasure to have yours of the 26th, but I was sorry to know that [475] is having some trouble. However, I hope we may be of some service in finding help for the disturbing disorder.

We are always very happy and glad to hear from you and Mr. [4124] for I’m sure you know we think a great deal of you. I appreciate Mr. [4124]‘s abilities and his counsel and advice, although I suspect he feels that I was not quick to accept some that he gave me two years ago. But we appreciate his abilities anyway, and certainly do hope he will pull through these trying and distressing times and that the New Year will bring to him and all of you many of the joys and pleasures that should be yours.

One reason for wiring you Mr. [4124] will understand from our experience in New York, for the law requires that each individual become a bonafide member of the organization. Hence this necessitated our having your acceptance of such an arrangement to conform to that ruling. Not that we want to appear to straight-laced, for we feel we understand your feelings in the matter, but we must conform entirely to the rulings and we will never have any cause for regrets - and I’m sure that both of you are more than willing to conform to this measure, that we might have the proper standing should any question ever arise in the mind of any. As to which class of membership you wish to accept, that is entirely with you. And should you accept the Active Membership (which, of course, we hope you will), why whatever you contribute will be alright - whether 25 cents a month or $1.00 a month or whatever it might be will be perfectly satisfactory. Our desire is to be of a service. We do not want to impose any hardship on anyone, but want everyone to feel a part and parcel of the organization and what we are trying to present. We believe, from the reports we are continually having, that the Active Members will receive each month something very much worth while through the Bulletin we send out. Many report that they look forward with great interest to such data each month. We are believing, too, that many get a word here and there that helps them in their daily trials. Consequently, we are hoping your interest is such that you desire to have such data. And we do not send it to anyone who is not a bonafide member of the Association, or an Active Member. For Associate Members, we believe, are not interested in what we are trying to present, but are rather interested only in the help they may get at the moment.

I don’t know just how the reading sent you will coincide with your ideas or the physician’s idea of the condition, but from past experiences we are thinking that it will be worth considering seriously. I certainly am hoping this finds you, Mr. [4124] and the rest of the family enjoying the best health possible under the circumstances. How is [960]?
