Date: 12/27/1932 Sex: F ReadingID: 11836
This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 27th day of December, 1932, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [4125], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 3:30 to 3:40 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.J. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [4125].
-
Now, we find the general conditions are progressing very good. While there have been those reactions from the physical and the nervous strains on the system, if there will be kept those releasings along the cerebro-spinal system as outlined, those in connection with the stimulating of centers where cerebro-spinal and sympathetic are coordinant, and with the keeping up of all those conditions that have been outlined, we will find that the conditions will continue to be on the improve.
-
Keep as far away as possible from any discussions that cause dissensions, or from any influences that would hinder the body in following physically and mentally those suggestions given.
-
While there was little or no outward manifestation from the long strain physically which the body underwent, with the mental anticipations, with REALIZATIONS, there came with the spoken word (Where there were antagonistic expressions with the self, as indicated), combined with the strain on the physical and the imaginative (as outlined), those reactions that made for incoordination.
-
Now, quietness - and those stimuli by the corrective forces along the cerebro-spinal and sympathetic system, as given, will bring about the CONTINUED improvements.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is the doctor there, the osteopath, giving the treatments as they should be? (A) So far these have not as yet been wholly set up. These should be followed along the lines that have been outlined, in all those suggestions for corrective forces. One should be the corrective treatment, the next the general sympathetic treatment - see? These may be done, if they will follow those suggestions.
Do that. We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 12/27/32 EC’s letter to Mrs. [2118]: I wish you might have been present to have had the experience all here have had during the last month. A young couple came in one morning. They had arrived at the Beach the day before, from a hospital near Baltimore where the wife [4125] had been for several months, not knowing anyone here and not having heard of the work. She had been practically an invalid (mentally) for a number of years. The doctors told the husband that nothing could be done for her, just to take her away, travel with her as long as he could, she might snap back but they didn’t see any hope. On the ocean walk they ran into someone who suggested that they ask for a reading. To see first the hopes raise, then to see some awakening with her and some relief from the awful pains that were both physical and imaginary, to see her gradually through the weeks return to her normal self, was a most MARVELLOUS demonstration. No one could possibly tell it and do it justice in any sense; merely one of those things that has to be experienced by the people themselves. Yes, it is for everyone. I know we often say, and you will be ready to say, “Why can’t all those things come to my love ones?” But what a fight this poor lady made!
R2. 1/18/33 EC’s letter to Dr. A. J. Foerter re. Mrs. [4125] [See also 1/21/33 EC’s ltr. under 272-3, Par. R6]: We have been more than satisfied with many of the reports we have been having recently on quite a number we have tried to help. Some have been quite interesting cases. A couple came to the beach not knowing anything about the work, apparently just drawn here by some unseen force. The lady had been under the care of some physicians associated with Johns Hopkins for several months; they considered the case quite hopeless, in fact told her husband that nothing could be done - she might be better, she might be worse - and advised him to travel with her as long as his money lasted, then leave her somewhere. Shortly after their arrival here, someone told them they might get aid through these sources. She has responded most wonderfully; in fact, she has been able to return home and practically take up her life that had been all-awry - and she away from her husband and son - for almost four years. For this to be accomplished in, we might say, a few weeks - or a little more than two months - seems very remarkable.
…Possibly it is like the Norfolk physician said, who had charge of the case from Baltimore that I mentioned: “I have known many cases through these readings. At first I was loath to admit that the information in the readings might be more thorough than my own experience and practice has taught me, or that it might go farther than I have been taught in the schools - or that I have taught in the schools myself; but I have come to the conclusion that where individuals conscientiously and sincerely seek information through this channel, if the one applying the remedies will be just as sincere in giving that suggested - ALL that suggested, no more and no less - the results will come as promised. That’s my experience over a period of eight years. Although I thought I was a very good doctor, I am willing to stake what little reputation I may have on that fact. It isn’t a chance
- it just happens! HOW, I don’t understand - but it just does!” [See 7/33 A.R.E. bulletin, 2nd article by Dr. M. L. Richardson, “Observations on Mr. Cayce’s Psychic Physical Readings.”]
R3. 1/27/33 Dr. A. J. Foerter’s letter: The quotations from the Norfolk physician are quite illuminating. So is your report on that John Hopkins’ case. Your son has asked me for a sort of statement dealing with the importance that the instructions be followed conscientiously that are being given through you in the life readings. I appreciate very much being asked to do that and as soon as I possibly can I shall comply with his wishes only too gladly. [See Dr. Foerter’s 2/1/33 letter at Par. R4 below.]
R4. 2/1/33 Dr. A. J. Foerter’s reply to HLC’s request that he write a statement dealing with the importance of following the instructions in the Edgar Cayce Physical Readings:
A Contribution from a Medical Man in Illinois to the Symposium
Arranged by The Association for Research & Enlightenment, Inc. on the Question:
“Why is it absolutely necessary to follow strictly the instructions as given in the Physical Readings through Mr. Cayce.”
Many answers could and should be given to this question. Each answer can carry some truth, truth sufficient and adapted to be taken in by individual MINDS CAPABLE OF USING that particular presentation.
A simple beginning would emphasize the PRINCIPLE OF OBEDIENCE and a desire to surrender the self-will to the Greater Will of the Universe. It is an exercise of the principle of AUTHORITY with the individual’s placing the source of authority to the Superior Wisdom.
Another mode of presenting this answer is to emphasize that this particular type of healing is to be classified under “FAITH HEALING”. What is faith? Faith is a mode of thinking; it is the entertaining of certain convictions and beliefs. Faith Healing, then implies trust and expectation in IDEAS. The question should, naturally, arise in the mind of a patient as to how strong his belief is and as to the best device for determining such strength. The information that “one’s acts speak louder than one’s words,” illustrate the principle involved. One just does not do or act up to what one does not believe. In other words, failure to live up to the instruction with thoroughness, accuracy, initiative, concentration and hopeful imagination, is the fore-runner of poor success.
To a mind that is trained in business principles, one might present this answer from the stand point of INVESTMENT. Every business man knows that in order to derive a benefit- return from anything, he must stand in a certain connection with that source of supply. He must have stock, or some interests in the concern. Obeying and following instructions as given by Mr. Cayce in the Physical Readings act in developing such interests and holdings so that the individual as an investor has the right to look for DIVIDENDS.
The mind that has become familiar with the laws that govern it, finds it easier to comprehend the answer to the above question. Such a mind has become familiar with the laws that govern its Being. It knows that “A MAN IS, AS HE THINKETH IN HIS HEART.” To such a one, an appeal should be made, to see in the strict observation of the conduct prescribed the EXPRESSION of the belief, that a kindly, all-powerful, all-wise Beingness, is taking charge of his affairs, so that worry, uncertainty, or any kind of a negative suggestion finds no room in his mental house.
Where a scientific training has brought the insight, that man, like God, is a three-fold being: Spirit, Mind and Body IN ONE. It is also likely that some understanding of the following symbolisms has been acquired: Christ, sacrifice and covenant, and the necessity of forgiveness for healing. Such a training would most likely include the comprehension of the nature of the three leading principles in the Universal Mind: namely, that It is strictly IMPERSONAL, continually in a suggestible state, always accepting the most powerful suggestion to which it has been exposed and CREATING external conditions according to them. Hence, such an individual would understand why the Bible describes the Supreme Power as being good with the good, and froward with the froward. He would be able to explain the seeming paradox that God, the Life-healing Power, becomes to each exactly what he expects or believes It to be and do. If he expects much, he will get a great deal, and if he expects little, he will not be disappointed. An individual who has attained to this enlightenment is to be congratulated for his persistence in research and application in the study of the Laws of the Universe, himself included. He can see that obeying the instructions laid out for him, is finding an opportunity to use the knowledge he already has. He will see himself confronted between ACQUIRING knowledge and APPLYING the power that comes with knowledge.
In closing one might remark that such an individual is frequently led to wonder as to just why he is meeting with so many problems and difficult situations. Without doubt he will awaken to the truth that of him to whom much has been given, much is expected, as illustrated so beautifully by the servant to whom 10 pounds had been entrusted and who managed to double the principal thru his wise application of all that he had at the time. In this way, to follow up the instructions as given, is to MAKE USE of all one has at the time.

R6. 2/14/33 EC’s letter to [4125]:
Mrs. [4125] …, N.J.
My dear Mrs. [4125] -
We have thought about you many times since I last saw you in New York. I saw Mr. […] [her husband] one morning at Dr. Reilly’s. I understood from his conversation that evening that you felt you were possibly going to get even better results from his treatments there than you received here. Not having heard from you it has, of course, made us rather anxious about you. We would appreciate your letting us hear from you for you know we feel a very great deal of interest and are very anxious to try and be of service to you.
We are in hopes, too, that you will be able through the good that you have derived from your association with the work to assist us in passing it along to someone else.
Trusting this finds you feeling well and almost ready to go back to work again and with kindest regards and love from all here, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:MD ASS’N FOR RESEARCH & ENLIGHTENMENT, INC.
