This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 23rd day of October, 1933, in accordance with request made by self through her daughter, Mrs. [267], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will have before you [422], present in this room. You will give her a mental and spiritual reading which will especially clarify for her the conditions through which she has passed and is passing, explaining why these conditions arise and how she can use her experience and understanding to assist others. You will answer the questions which we may ask.

2. EC: Yes, we have the mental and spiritual mind of the entity now known as [422], with those varied experiences of the mental forces of the entity.

3. In making such preparation, or in preparing self for such, much is to be considered if the experiences are to be made practical in the application and experiences of others.

4. First, then, it would be well to consider the character and the source of the experiences that have come, do come, to this mental activity of the entity.

5. In the developments of the entity through the earth’s experience much has tended towards contacts with varied influences; some with those conditions that have been misunderstood or misconstrued.

6. Then, in the present experiences these become more active in the imaginative forces of the body (physical), as it is at times controlled or moved to action without its own volition. Hence there have been periods when these experiences have been not only disturbing but distracting factors in the experience.

7. In making these applicable in the self, then, as to be given out to others in a practical, workable way and manner:

8. The influences of force from without are as those seen in the material world, good and bad; life and its idiosyncrasies towards distraction in its movements. Yet, there has been set a sure ensample in the experience of all, if the mental influences of the mental body are fed upon the fruits of the spirit that are designated in Him who is the way to understanding, comprehension and application in the experience of any.

9. Since the body in its toto (the entity-body) has applied and misapplied, used and abused, built and destroyed, through the same channels of activity, these must be met in the one influence and once that the house is swept clean of those influences that would beset or disturb the activities of the mental abilities, the mental imaginative forces, the impulses in the activities of the entity, then there may come those influences of every nature that may be given and distributed and handed and applied in the experience of the entity in the present.

10. How, then, is the approach to this throne of mercy, grace, peace, in the existent conditions?

11. In making LITERAL application of that which is known in the mental, the body-consciousness, as pertaining to the fruits of the spirit. And this is done step by step in the daily experience of the body-mind, the mental body, and there is then the assurance that those that DO such are compassed about with those protecting influences of His forces in the spiritual, the mental and the material world. And then there is given that as to HOW, in what manner, WHERE, and in what way these influences may be used or given out for the understanding to others in meeting their problems day by day.

12. First, then, so surround self with that influence, MENTALLY, CONSCIOUSLY, PHYSICALLY, of His love, His glory, in the earth. Then conquering self enables one to consciously and in every sense mete out to others that given in the experience day by day.

13. Fear not! Know - KNOW - He is able and willing to, and lovingly will, GUIDE the way.

15. (Q) Give an example of having misapplied these forces in this or a previous life, that I may understand just what is meant by this. (A) In the entity’s approach in the present it has been rather curious to know the experiences of those THUSLY endowed. In a previous experience the entity used the influences to control others in their thought and their activity.

16. (Q) How can I discern the helpful entities or forces from those forces that would do me harm? (A) In each experience ask that they acknowledge the life, the death, the resurrection of the Jesus, the Christ. They that answer only as in the affirmative; otherwise, “Get thee behind me I will have no part with thee. Through His name only WILL I, [422], ACCEPT direction!”

17. (Q) Are the methods I am using at present correct and will they lead to mental and spiritual progress? (A) So long as these are in accord with that given. Test ye the spirits, for there are divers activities; but have no part with those that know not the Lord, the RISEN Lord - and Him crucified and risen! [1 Cor. 2:2]

In the material application, physically, surround self with those books and pictures that depict the Christ life; a cross, yea a rosary, and let it not depart from thine body!

18. (Q) Please give an affirmation for going into meditation. (A) We would advise first conquering self, in that there is NO influencing save when DESIRED through Him. Then, when this is established in self, to self’s satisfaction, in the JOYOUSNESS of His presence abiding in thee and with thee, approach as this:

IN THY NAME, MY LORD, MY MASTER, I SEEK TO BE SHOWN HOW MY HANDS, MY MIND, MY BODY, MAY BE USED IN THY SERVICE IN DIRECTING - (giving the name of whom the body would direct in His ways).

19. (Q) How can I be of definite help to my daughter, Mrs. [267], [See 422-1, Par. R2] in regard to their immediate financial problems? (A) There has been some consideration of some associations and connections that may be brought about and established in such a way and manner as to be of immediate and of material benefit. Carry these lines and thoughts to their fruition.

20. (Q) Will I be disloyal to those high forces that have promised help if I ask if I can depend upon immediate help which has been promised? (A) The way, the key, the line, has been laid. Follow.

R1. GD’s note: Mrs. [422] met regularly with the A.R.E. Prayer Group, studying prayer and meditation. They held periods of meditation with her and she followed the suggestions given in 422-1. The voices stopped disturbing her. The whole pattern of her life changed, bringing a great deal of joy and peace to a troubled household.

R2. Subsequent readings for guidance were given for Mrs. [267] and her family. [GD’s note: Mrs. [267] some years later told me that her mother [Mrs. [422]] and her father [Mr. [5593]] both died within a short time of one another in the early 1940’s.]

R3. 7/21/72 Mrs. [422]‘s daughter (younger daughter) told GD that both parents had died in 1946, each from a cerebral hemorrhage. She said that in 1937 when she married, her mother, Mrs. [422], was quite withdrawn from the world and, while present for the wedding, did not participate. It was as if she was living in another world and not related at all to this physical one, during the last few years of her life.

B2. 10/23/33 She sought help through a rdg. to relieve her of difficulties she was having from hearing voices that mocked and frightened her. Apparently she heard these voices as whisperings close to her ear. They came after a period of developing automatic writing. At first they were helpful, giving answers to her questions and guidance regarding her daily problems. This changed gradually and the voices began to criticize her thoughts and actions. Incorrect information was given and finally frightening lies were whispered to her constantly, such as, “There is a snake in your room. It is under the bed and when you go to sleep it is going to crawl over you. Your husband is seeing another woman. Your bread is burning. Someone is peeping through the window at you.” A trip to a doctor’s office would be the first move toward an institution, so she turns to Edgar Cayce as her only hope.
