This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 27th day of May, 1926, in accordance with request made by self - Miss Elizabeth L. Major, via her aunt, Mrs. Carrie Elizabeth Cayce [EC”s mother].

Time of Reading Rural Route #3, Box 65, 3:45 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Hopkinsville, Ky.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time. You will diagnose the case thoroughly, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.

2. EC: Now, we find there are abnormal conditions with this body. These have to do with the poor eliminations in the system and the effect this condition has produced on the body.

3. Now, these are conditions as we find them in this body, Elizabeth Lake Major, we are speaking of. First:

4. IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, this we find below the normal, impoverished, as it were. Low in resistive power, lacking in ability to produce that which will war against the toxins in the system. Hence that condition in the tissue, in the ligaments and joints where these toxins show their effect on the nerve system and on the action of locomotion.

5. IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, many of the centers in extremities, or that in the ends of nerve plexuses about ligaments and tissue in the extremities, especially in the lower limbs, show the effect of the condition of toxins as are left in the system through the poor elimination and the overloading of the system with those food properties that make an excess of drosses for a condition of this nature and character.

6. IN THE FUNCTIONING OF THE ORGANS, these all show the effect of this condition existent in the body, yet no organic conditions, as we find, exist that are detrimental at the present time. The greatest trouble being, then, with the digestion, the hepatic circulation, and especially the colon, for the drosses, the impacts that show in the various orifices or the pockets in colon proper, especially in the ascending portion, shows how the system becomes in that way of producing toxins that produce this condition in the blood supply, or the impoverishment to the blood, and in the impoverishment of the blood giving then that inability to cope with the conditions in system and, leaving drosses, brings on this condition as is termed neuritis, or rheumatic conditions in the system.

7. Then, to eliminate these will take care, persistence, and consistent conditions for the body. The system must first produce a normal elimination as possible, overcoming these conditions and giving a new supply of blood, as it were, for the whole body, that this may rejuvenate or rebuild the system, as in reference to these conditions.

8. We would then, to overcome this in this body, do as this. First we would take in the system at least two - yea THREE whole quantities of Toris Compound, prepared as is given, or directions on the package, see? using that of the simple syrup as the carrier for same. Then, following this, purge the system thoroughly, using those conditions or properties in that compound of Simmon’s Liver Regulator, see? At least four to five such doses should be given.

9. Do not eat ANY meat! Drink PLENTY OF WATER at all times, at least six to ten glasses full each day, keeping the system thoroughly cleansed, using after the Toris Compound has been taken those vibrations of the Violet Ray, for this will assist and rejuvenate the blood supply and give same an equilibrium necessary to remove the conditions in the body. Do that.

10. Let the diet be of seasonable vegetables rather than of meats, and as much of the green vegetable nature as possible.

11. We are through for the present.

R1. 5/29/26 EC’s letter to Lizzie Major:

Dear Lizzie:-

I am enclosing you the reading as was gotten at the appointed time. I am certainly very much in hopes that you are going to find a lot of relief by following out the suggestions as are given. As for the Toris Compound, you perhaps will be able to find it at any of the drug stores there in town. If not, you get Pa to order it for you - Globe Chemical Company, Dayton, Ohio. I am sure he can fix it up for you. It costs fifty cents a package and you are to have at least three quantities. The directions are on the package, how to prepare this. I feel sure that Pa will be glad to do this for you, should you not be able to get it at the drug store. Of course, if they have it they will prepare it for you. The Simmon’s Liver Regulator, of course, I am sure you will be able to get at any of the drug stores. The Violet Ray - you will be able to get the treatment there at home. Pa has one of the machines and I know will be more than glad to help you out with it.

Now, I feel especially interested, Lizzie, in this, and I am in hopes that you will carry out these suggestions to the letter, for of course that is the only way to get any results, and I am sure that you will find Pa more than willing and glad to help you in any way.

I tried to call you one night while I was at home, but the line was busy. I should have, I am sure, tried again, but I was there such a little while, it looked like I just didn’t have time for anything. I am certainly glad that Hendricks gets home pretty often, I know his mother is always glad to see him. I hope that he is getting along fine. I saw John when I was there last September. He was looking mighty well and of course couldn’t talk about anything but his boys. I know he’s mighty proud of them and justly so. I often think of you all, and of the old home place - holds many pleasant memories for me. I often think of Miss Ella and when she used to hear our lessons every day. At the time we thought we had a mighty hard time, but I realize now that many of the lessons I got from her I have use of every day. I hope she is well. Be sure to give her my love. Also remember me to your mother and the rest of the folks. I haven’t seen Annie since she was just a little bit of a girl. Katie used to come to see us once in a while when she was in Bowling Green. Mighty nice sweet girl, and I thought a great deal of her. Give her my love when you see her.

Now, I want you to let me hear from you, for though we are far apart, I think we should have a great many things of mutual interest, for I know I would love to hear from everyone of you, and I ask Mother about each and everyone, for to be sure she keeps up with everyone, and I think a whole lot of all my kinfolks, though I don’t see them often - for “blood is a lot thicker than water”.

When you have taken at least the medicinal properties, I think it would be well for us to have a check reading and see if you are getting along alright. You will understand, I am sure, from what is said and what is given that this is supposed to get at the seat of the trouble and eliminate the cause, and of course is not going to cure you all in a day. It will take just a little bit of persistence, and of course you are going to have to be consistent with your activities and especially with your diet, but I feel sure if you WILL follow these suggestions closely, you are going to get the results. I don’t mean by this that I think I’m some great doctor, Lizzie, but these readings are the operations of some higher force than we understand. I don’t think that I have been especially gifted above other people. I may be given the ability to apply that which comes through a little bit different from most of us do, but it is with the individual in applying the suggestions to themselves that get the results, and I hope you are going to do it, for you don’t know how much this means to me, and I doubt if you can realize how much I appreciate your even asking me to try it. I’m only too glad to do it.

Dear Edgar:

Excuse this pencil but so nervous would spill ink.

Received reading the first. Went to town next day and Uncle Less ordered medicine. Today went back, he had it prepared, so have begun to take it. I found Aunt Carrie looking better than she did in March. Swelling gone out of her ankles. Sarah is nursing her so good. Aunt Carrie dreading when time for her to leave but she says she going up to Mary’s so I hope she be well enough for the trip. I am going to carry out your instructions but it seems I have been enough trouble and expense to you with the first reading and here you are offering to give me a second one. Now if second has inexpensive treatment I may be able to carry that out. I sure do want to be well, and appreciate your interest in me, but I have so much to be thankful for all my folks are so good to me. I certainly appreciated your letter and Aunt Ella certainly did like being remembered. For such a long time she says she always tried to do her best in everything and glad you thought it was good results in her teaching. She and Mama are good deal spryer than I am, but get tired out quickly but that goes with age. The old place is very dear to us three but farming is not paying very much. Kate and her husband Mr. Swift have the farm but I hate for them to work so hard and get nothing. Mr. Swift is as good to Mama as a real son. His mother and father both dead. Yes, brother John has a right to be proud of his boys, his oldest has been promoted to Division Manager for Leggett & Myers Tobacco Co. and recently went to Dayton, Ohio to live. I have never seen Gertrude but once and never did see your children. I have always been a stay at home body. Well I am going to let you hear from me. I don’t know how I can ever pay you enough, as you may have to wait a long time. I am anxious to know your family. I love them for they are my folks. I send love to one and all. R3. 6/15/26 L. B. Cayce’s letter to EC:

Elizabeth Major phoned this morning, said she felt that she was getting along very well, that it was not so painful to her to get up and down stairs, (you know she rooms up stairs and has been a great task to get back and forth to her room) said she had taken about one half of the prescription, or the medicine and that she was going to write you today or tomorrow and have you instruct her further, or to go over her case again and tell her whether it will be necessary for her to any more of the medicine compounded, or what to do next. She begun taking the medicine just one week ago yesterday, so the improvement in this length of time seems wonderful, but she doesn’t know whether to get more or to begin the violet-ray after this, she will ask you.

R4. 6/16/26 EC’s letter to Lizzie Major:

Dear Lizzie:-

I was certainly very glad to have yours of the 7th. Somehow or another, I have felt like in the last few weeks that really a great change was coming in my life. All of us, I guess, as we grow older, begin at some time or another to live in the past. It has seemed to me for a long, long, time that I have heard or seen so little of my mother’s people, who are all so near and dear to me, until I have begun to feel like I am kind of separated from them, but having a letter from you the other day, then a day or two ago I had a letter from Mary Sargent, certainly made me feel a whole lot different. I certainly am thankful and I appreciate their letting me hear from them.

Well, I am very much in hopes that you are beginning now to see some results from your treatment. I am sure that if you adhere to them strictly you are going to get wonderful results from them. I don’t think you expect to be cured as by magic, for you have got to get at the base of the trouble, and eliminate the cause from your system. That takes time. You may expect also that there will be days when you won’t feel so good, but don’t get discouraged, for this will relieve the trouble, and by the time you have taken up all of the medicine, you will want to check over the reading again and see just what your conditions are at that time, for this is the only way to really rid yourself of the trouble. Be careful about your diet, and get on to the violet ray treatments as soon as you can and keep up with same just as consistently as possible for you to do so. I know Pa will be glad to help out in any way that he possibly can. And be sure and let me hear from you from time to time.

Yes, be sure and give my very best wishes and regards to Miss Ella. I often think of her, and think of the lessons and patience and care and attention she gave to all of us. I certainly wish I could see her and talk with her. I hope that Aunt Mary is keeping well. I know how she likes to potter around with the flowers. I’ll never forget how it used to be in the old days, how beautiful the walk was in the garden and the pit in the corner of the yard. I guess all has changed around there so much that it doesn’t look the same. One of the first remembrances in my whole life is that old home place, and a charade that Miss Ella had charge of, that was enacted there on the front porch, with the seats all out in the yard. Ask her if she remembers it. John, I think, was at the time wearing dresses, but Aunt Annie, Miss Ella, one of the Adams’ girls, or boys, I don’t know which it was - some of the people around the neighborhood. I certainly am in hopes that I will yet have the opportunity of going back there some day. I have wanted to every time I’ve been back to Kentucky, but just looked like I didn’t have the opportunity, being kind of out of touch with the people, and wonder whether we have anything in common or not, and don’t do it. Tell Kate I’d like to hear from she and her husband. Farming has changed a whole lot from what it used to be. When I was in Kentucky this last time I was out on the Mason farm for a few hours. There certainly is a difference in the way farming is carried on now to what it used to be when I knew anything about the farm, but it’s to the farm and the farmer that the people of this country owe everything, and though it may be hard work, when each one realizes that they are filling their place, doing their duty towards their fellow man to the best of their ability, it should bring the greatest pleasure of anything.

Certainly very peculiar that John’s boy should be in Dayton now - just where I used to live. If I knew him I might make him acquainted with some few people there that would be worth while.

R5. 6/19/26 Lizzie Major’s letter to EC:

Dear Edgar:

I have been trying to carry out directions and am not so sore but still crippled, though not so painful in walking. I was talking to Uncle Les this morning and as the medicine will just about last a week more, he thought best for me to write you for next reading, as he doesn’t want me to be without treatment. So you do what you think best. A good thing started needed pushing for best results. He said Aunt Carrie is doing very well. Sarah leaves next week and she’ll be very lonesome, but she has enjoyed her every minute.

Uncle George was over yesterday. He is very remarkable for one of his age, to do the work and walking he does. He is so very thin and complains of his knees hurting him.

I don’t know any news. All the folks are very well, and I am improving.

Now you use your own convenience in regards the reading. I am very grateful to you and all.

Dear Edgar,

By the suggestion of Aunt Carrie I am asking you to prescribe for me. I have had rheumatism for over a year. About a year ago I had my tonsils taken out which relieved me for a while, but now I have rheumatism in my right hip and lower right limb, and am in such pain I cannot stand to ride, so Aunt Carrie and I have it all planned if I was cured I could ride in to see her sometime. I have not seen her since March and I was not able to attend the last rites for our dear Aunt Annie [Annie Major Sargeant]. Aunt Carrie has stood up under her grief for her sister fine. You know she loved her dearly. You know all her nephews and nieces loved her, for she was a dear sweet aunt to us all. I never remember her being well in my life but she stayed up most of time and did lots of work. I am going to write Mary and Susie a letter and try and console them but when loved ones leave us words cannot fill the gap. Now Edgar I don’t have any money to pay you if you should prescribe for me but I feel like if I had any it would be worth a LOT OF MONEY. When I get some money I will remember you, but I know you cannot live on promises. So do what you can about it and I will appreciate it. My family are all moderately well. Miss Lizzie L. Major, Rural Route 3, Box 65, Hopkinsville, Ky.

Dear Cousin:-

Replying to yours of the 2nd, you know that I shall be very glad to try to be of some help or assistance to you in gaining your normal physical health. I am enclosing, then, our regular appointment card. As you will see from the little pamphlet, it is necessary that we know just where you are the hour the reading is to be made. So, please keep the appointment, and return card, that we may know that the day and hour set is satisfactory to you. We are kept pretty busy, and as I can only make two of these in one day, it has to be made a few weeks off, but I certainly am in hopes that I may be of some help and assistance to you. Of course you know that it is necessary also to have the EXACT location of the place where you will be.

Yes, I am sure that Mother will be glad to have you in to see her whenever it is possible, for she needs cheering up. I only wish that it was so I could be with her. I often feel like that it is rather an injustice to one growing up in years to have their children all away from them.

I was certainly very sorry to hear of Aunt Annie’s death. It makes it very hard on the girls, and as you say there is very little that can be said to comfort or console one at such times, yet we all desire to have someone to sympathize with us. Of course, the greatest help that can be to anyone is their faith, hope and trust in the Divine, for His Arm is never short, and it’s only His blessings that can heal, yet very often, and more often than otherwise, it’s we, as individuals, that must carry this cheer to the hearts of others and make manifest His Spirit of Love in the world. This is especially hard I think on Susie. While it may be more keenly felt by Mary, yet we feel like that Susie has depended more on her mother.

Well, let me hear from you. Mighty glad to hear from the folks and certainly would love to see them all. Glad to say we are all very well here. With love from all,

Dear Edgar:

I am enclosing the card. I am always at home and lie down a great deal. My room is the upstairs west room. This house hasn’t been changed a bit so you know how it looks. I talked to Uncle Less yesterday, said Aunt Carrie was feeling better, as you had been to see her. Oh these mothers. They certainly enjoy every moment their children are with them, so you made her heart glad. Hendricks comes to see mama oftener than brother John, as he is nearer. The other girls are with her real often and K. and myself all the time. Everybody’s children have to live where they can do best and they understand that they cannot keep their little children always, for they do grow up and have to have homes of their own, I have not heard anything from Mary & Susie [Mary and Susie Sargeant], only a card of thanks for flowers. When I wrote them I asked to let us hear from them as I thought that would be what Aunt Annie would like us to do. At least keep in touch with each other. I know you must like living in Va., as it is where our ancestors came from and history is full of things that happened there. I suppose you are eating more of those famous Va. cherries as they begin ripening this month. We will have very few as frost injured the fruit here. Although they think strawberries will be a bountiful crop, but we don’t have a bed. Our garden and chickens are late. Mama has lots of early flowers in bloom and she’s out among them right now. She wants to stay outdoors most of time. Says it makes her live longer. When I get the report of your reading I am going to try and go into town if I possibly can and Uncle Less [Leslie B. Cayce - EC’s father] is going to help me on it as he is a very good Dr. I am very thankful to all of you, and maybe I won’t be poor always. And money is not everything although we can not live without it. So I am going to remember you sometime. I hope you and family are all enjoying good health.
