This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of July, 1926, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss Elizabeth L. Major. Involuntary Reading. [Volunteered, without suggestion being given, at end of a volunteered reading for Miss [3796], following the scheduled first physical for Miss [4298].

Time of Reading Rural Route 3, Box 65, 10:50 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

1. EC: Now, we have those conditions as regarding the body, Elizabeth Lake Major. We find these are greatly improved in the body at the present time.

2. We would not, for the present, take more of the Toris Compound. We would apply those vibrations of the Violet Ray, as has been given. Keep the body free from meats, and keep the eliminations well in hand, using small doses occasionally of the Simmon’s Liver Regulator, see? With this kept up for two to three weeks, we will find a great improvement, and then, with the diet kept well in hand, gradually the body will overcome these conditions in the physical forces of same. Do that.

3. We are through with this reading.

Dear Lizzie:-

I hope you will pardon me for not answering yours long since, but it just looked like that we didn’t have an opportunity to get to this, as our time was so well taken up with appointments, but I am in hopes you are keeping on with the suggestions as were given and I feel sure that you are going to find results.

Be sure and let us hear from you from time to time, for I assure you it is our desire to be of help.

R2. 7/12/26 [4324]‘s letter to EC:

R. F. D. 3 HOPKINSVILLE, KY.

Dear Edgar

Yours of the 3rd with the reading for which I thank you. Yes I am improved and with patience the race is run so you see I will be well but as you know I am very anxious to be well right now, but I do know it can not be done by magic and this came in by degrees and will leave that way.

Everybody is so nice to help me out. I have been with Annie [Annie Cayce] most of 2 weeks and taken treatments, but you know she is a very busy person, in fact almost has too much to do just to be one person without anybody extra in her hands. She is a great woman in every way and all of you must be justly proud of her. I thank all of you for helping me out.

Uncle Less was telling me you were having a time trying to wear your teeth, now I know you are not going to be like our Cousin Will Major, carry them around in your pocket. He has been doing that for ten yrs. He has not only lost use of his money as well as injured his health, for he is very thin. Uncle George over yesterday, he is very well and is enjoying this cool weather.

He says sometimes he wishes he was dead and then he wishes he could live a long time just to see what folks are coming to in this fast age, everybody trying to do without work. He would work if he could, but to old.

Mama and Aunt Ella are feeling better as it is cooler, neither of them see very well so they depend on me for their eyes, so that makes me hate to leave them very long at times for they love me so much.

R3. 7/28/26 EC’s letter to [4324]:

Dear Lizzie:-

I appreciate yours of the 12th very much. I certainly am in hopes that you are continuing to improve. While you have this trouble on the jump, I certainly would not neglect getting these treatments as often as it is possible to do. I would make some special effort to get in real often, see if you can’t get rid of this now, and I believe you can, but you know if you neglect yourself and let it run on, why it won’t take you long to get back into the same condition or even worse than it has been heretofore.

Don’t have such good reports from home. I’m afraid Mother is not getting along as well as she might. Yes, I know that Sister more than has her hands full. I only wish that it was possible for me to do something that would relieve the situation and strain, for having the care of Mother and the house, and then trying to attend to her business that needs nursing along, is certainly more than a good sized job for one individual. It seems to me it’s too bad that the burden of the whole thing falls on her. She is one in a thousand!

Give my love to the folks, and let me hear from you whenever you have the opportunity. Glad to say we are all fairly well here. Gertrude and the boys send love to you and yours.

R4. 11/4/40 See 2391-1 on a baby born 10/27/40 indicating the given name should be “Elizabeth Carol” and that her just previous incarnation was as Elizabeth Major. EC felt that this was the same entity, and when questioned as to when Elizabeth Major [4324] died, he said he thought she died soon after his mother [Carrie Elizabeth Cayce] died, which was in October 1926.

Untrained, He Diagnosed Ills Of 30,000 by Self-Hypnosis

(In “The Search for Bridey Murphy” Morey Bernstein told of a man named Edgar Cayce who during his lifetime performed medical diagnoses by clairvoyance on 30,000 persons.

Bernstein related that Cayce had no medical training and only a 9th grade education, intimating that he had been a doctor in a previous life.

The Daily News has made its own inquiry into the Cayce story, sending a reporter to Hopkinsville, Ky., where Cayce was born, and where he performed many of his amazing diagnoses.

The results of this investigation follow.)

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Think the Bridey Murphy story is weird?

Then read the Edgar Cayce story. It’s a lulu.

Cayce (pronounced Kay-cee) was born on a farm near here in 1877. He went only as far as the 9th grade in school, but when he died in 1945 he had correctly diagnosed the ailments of some 30,000 persons.

All of these were made while Cayce was in a hypnotic trance and many of them by long distance “clairvoyance.”

Books entitled “There Is A River” by Thomas Sugrue and “Many Mansions” by Dr. Gina Cerminara have documented the Cayce story.

Case histories of his “health readings” - sworn to by witnesses and notarized - are on file at Association for Research and Enlightenment at Virginia Beach, Va. Cayce’s son Hugh is director of the so-called “scientific foundation.”

Among the theories that have been advanced to explain Cayce’s strange power is that in a previous existence he was a doctor.

CAYCE worked on the farm after quitting school at 15. He later came to Hopkinsville and found a job in a book store. After that he became a photographer’s assistant.

When he was 23 he began having severe headaches.

One day, after a severe headache a friend found him wandering around aimlessly and took him home. The next day Cayce discovered he had virtually lost his voice. For the next 12 months he was unable to speak above a whisper.

Several doctors attempted to diagnose Cayce’s trouble without success.

THEN a local photographer and amateur hypnotist, Al Layne, asked permission to hypnotize Cayce and probe for a clue to the ailment.

On March 31, 1900, Cayce was put under a deep hypnosis in the presence of his family. He was told to describe his own ailment.

And he did - in precise medical terminology:

“Yes, I can see my body,” he said. “In the normal physical state this body is unable to speak due to a partial paralysis of the inferior muscles of the vocal cords, produced by nerve strain.

“This is a psychological condition producing a physical effect.

“This may be removed by increasing circulation to the affected parts by suggestion while in this unconscious state.”

WHEN Cayce became conscious he was able to speak and his vocal ailment was permanently cured.

Amazed at Cayce’s ability to analyse his own illness, Layne suggested that he should use the power to help others.

And thus began Cayce’s strange career as a medical diagnostician via clairvoyance.

Equally amazing is the fact that he learned he could hypnotize himself simply by lying on a couch and willing himself into a deep somnambulistic trance.

AND persons in Hopkinsville who knew him considered Edgar Cayce to have been just a little lower than the angels.

I talked with about a dozen of them. For instance:

Kenneth O. Cayce, president of Cayce-Yost Hardware Co. and a former president of the Hopkinsville Rotary Club:

“Edgar was my cousin, but at first I didn’t take much stock in his ‘health readings.’

“But when he diagnosed the illness of my father, Delbert, back in 1924, I became convinced of his unusual powers.

“Doctors were baffled at the case, but Edgar diagnosed it as osteomyelitis, prescribed the proper operation, and even told how it has been caused by a blow on father’s leg years before.

“Father himself had not remembered this injury.”

Kenneth Cayce added:

“Remember, Edgar made his diagnosis in precise medical terms, though he had never read a medical book or received any scientific training whatsoever.”

MRS. MAUD Cayce Ryan, 1401 S. Virginia St., another cousin of Edgar Cayce’s:

“I watched Edgar do a ‘health reading’ on my aunt, Mrs. Florence Atwood. Doctors were unable to determine her ailment, a woman’s disease. Edgar told them what to do and Aunt Florence was completely cured.”

GRAY SALTER, police sergeant, Hopkinsville:

“My father, William Salter, became desperately ill. Edgar diagnosed it as a complex kidney disease. Dr. House here in town was skeptical, but he followed Edgar’s suggestion. Dad was cured completely.

“My wife was also paralyzed on her face and right side. Many doctors had given up. Edgar performed a reading, and his diagnosis cured the paralysis when it was followed out.”

C. F. McKEE, vice-president, First City Bank and Trust Co.:

“Edgar Cayce did make some amazing diagnoses; this is a matter of fact. And he was just an ordinary country boy without any training. But I doubt this theory that he was a doctor in a previous life.”

WALKER WOOD, co-publisher of the daily Kentucky New Era:

“Edgar actually did these things you have been told about: I’ve written a number of stories on his career. But I don’t know how he did them.”

W. O. KING, prominent Christian County farmer:

“I never saw Edgar do these things, but my friends - old Les Major and his son Tom - over in Julian, Ky., witnessed his health readings. They say he knew a lot more than many doctors.”

IF YOU’RE still skeptical about Cayce, folks here bring out their ace-in-the-hole reserved for visiting reporters, doctors and other unbelievers.

They tell of the Bowling Green (Ky.) experiment performed on Edgar Cayce. The experiment, they say, was witnessed by A. D. Noe and Dr. W. H. Ketchum, a couple of solid citizens from Hopkinsville.

Kenneth Cayce related the weird incident to me:

“They asked Edgar to lie down on a couch and put himself into one of his renowned trances.

“Then they punched an ice-pick through this right jaw, just above the jawbone.

“Edgar didn’t budge and he didn’t bleed.

“But when he came out of it, he let out the awfulest howl you ever heard. And the blood flowed.”
