This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of May, 1930, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [434].

1. EC: Yes, we have the body and those conditions as surround this body. The conditions, as we find, are in that nature of an incoordination in the cerebro-spinal and sympathetic nerve system, and while at times the body feels very good, the condition unfits the body for coordinated functioning of the physical body with the mental body; for in the incoordination impulses and activity often become working against one another. This unfits the physical forces for coordination, then, with the mental urges. These conditions, as we find, affect the physical organism through the incoordinating, or incoordination, of nerve centers, where there has been an INJURY to the cerebro-spinal centers in the region of the 7th dorsal center. This prevents the raising of those urges to normal activity, as it does prevent the proper distribution in the system of nerve energy.

2. There will be found that it will be necessary to change OFTEN in the applications for conditions as would bring the normalcy for the body, but these - as we find - we WOULD begin first:

3. We would take those properties as of the Mayblossom Bitters. [As in 3788-2 under the name of Maypop Bitters? Later detailed formula 543-5?] This should be taken, half a teaspoonful four times each day.

4. We would also, each day, preferably while the body rests in the afternoon - not night, but afternoon - we would take those vibrations from that of the Radio-Active Appliance carrying the Gold in solution, see?

5. We would also use that, at least every OTHER day, of the electrical driven vibrator. This should be used along the whole of the cerebro-spinal system, and especially at the base of brain and from the shoulders to the head, see? This should be DEEP when given, the body resting full after same.

6. Let the diet be those that are nerve AND blood building. The body should take JUICES of meats, but NOT meats, see?

7. These may give the proper incentives, and in four weeks we would give further instructions. Do that at present.

8. We are through with this reading.

R3. 6/4/30 Dr. L. A. Lydic’s letter to Mr. [436], from the Cayce Hospital: “In reply to your letter of June 2nd, I am sending Mayblossom Bitters with instructions and the diet list spoken of; also the Radio-Active Appliance carrying gold in solution

“Would suggest that you go to any good electrical shop and you can get an electrical vibrator at a very reasonable price. The price of the Radio-Active Appliance is 15.00 and can only be purchased through the hospital. The Mayblossom Bitters will be 2.00, making a total of $17.00.

“If I can be of any further assistance to you, please let me know. After following these instructions for one month, we will have a check reading for further instructions.” Very truly yours, Dr. L. A. Lydic

R4. 7/21/30 “Your rdg. of 5/30/30 said I would need further instructions in 4 wks. Does that mean you can give me another rdg. immediately upon receiving my application? I have been taking treatments as suggested in rdg. But somehow I can’t seem to be able to get hold of my mind…”

R5. 7/31/30 “Your kind letter rec’d & thank you… However, something has happened so that I will be unable to send in my application at this time…”

R6. 8/8/30 “I carried out Mr. C’s suggestions the best I could. But I am at fault & not Mr. C., as I have worried a great deal & haven’t been able to get hold of my mind. However, I will continue to take the treatments suggested by Mr. C., for I have absolute faith in his diagnosis. At the same time I am going to try suggestion when I sleep to get control of my mind. For I realize that until the mind is somewhat under control the healing of the spine & the restoring to normalcy will never take place. I am very grateful for the help received thru Mr. Cayce’s work. The spirit of kind service impressed me & I want to thank all who had any part in my case. I do feel confident now that I am going to get well and in a few months hope to be working again.”

R7. 9/23/33 “I hope to be able to come to the Cayce Hospital for treatment early next year, around Feb. or Mar. Then I could get the exact treatment prescribed for in the rdgs.

Dr. F. A. Goerger [D.O.] is my doctor. He is an occult student and is a fine man. He may be interested in you.”

R8. 10/16/33 “Excuse writing, am very nervous… Are rdgs. just as accurate at a distance? In my physical reading we were 2 hrs. apart on the time; that is, Mr. C. didn’t give the rdg. until 2 hrs. after the appointed time & I was in a disturbed nervous condition when I should have been quiet.” [He referred Mr. [461] for a Physical Rdg.]

R9. 10/23/33 “What are the duties of an official representative? I will do all I can for the Work, but I wouldn’t want to bite off more than I can chew, for my own physical and psychic health are far from normal… I will probably be able to come there at the end of this wk. or 1st of next wk. for 3 rdgs., Physical, Mental and Life…then I will learn all about the work.”

R10. 11/10/33 He was present for Life Rdg. 436-2; 11/11/33 for Mental-Spiritual 436-3, and 11/13/33 for Ck. Physical 436-4.

R11. GD’s note: Although Mr. [436]‘s background correspondence for 436-1 indicated transient psychic experiences and not the typical convulsions, we somehow had the impression - probably from talking to him later or because of the Mayblossom Bitters being suggested that he had a kind of attack occasionally bordering on epilepsy. Thus his case became listed with all the rest of the rdgs. on epilepsy.

R12. 7/60 In Dr. W. N. Pahnke’s breakdown of 96 cases of epilepsy from the Edgar Cayce records, Case [436] was classified in group 3, with his statement: “The patient himself described one of the symptoms as a ‘tightness in his head,’ and he thought something was broken inside his head. The description does not fit the picture of epilepsy. There were no convulsions and no seizures. The reading does not say anything about lacteal duct lesions or castor oil packs. The diagnosis very likely is to be a psychotic or neurotic condition.

R13. GD’s note: See 436-4, Par. 15-A in re nerve injuries to his head; and Par. 19-A indicating it is not true, as he has been told, that he has tuberculosis of the 3rd ventricle of the brain.

B1. 12/7/29 Letter:

“I have been suffering from a terrible mental and physical trouble for about 3 yrs. And I have been unsuccessful in my search for some reliable person who could diagnose diseases psychically or spiritually. So something told me to call on one of my old friends and she sent your little booklet which I read with interest and joy. I believe God was leading me to get in touch with you. For the last few months I have desired to pass on, as I felt there was no hope of recovering my balance mentally so that I would be of any service to those dear ones around me, and I would much rather go on than be left here a burden on my dear mother who has lived a life of self-sacrifice and service to those around her.

“Most of the time I seem to be half out of the body and half in it. The right side of my head seems to be tight all the time and there is a feeling that there is something broken in my head. What I am afraid of is that there is a permanent injury to the brain for this life -

“I have been an extremist all my life and a few years ago became interested in the higher truths or deeper things in life and I went to the extremes again by a lot of foolish overstrain mentally and at the same time allowed my body to run down… I have perfect faith in your directions for I feel that it is God speaking through you and directing me.

“One of my friends heard you lecture at Dr. Horton Held’s Psychology Class in Miami, Fla. She kept the little booklet, thinking it might help someone. I met Dr. Held in Miami and have spent some pleasant and happy hours with her.”

B2. 5/26/30 “I would like to know my exact condition physical and mental. Is it possible to treat and recover from it here in my home? Would you advise any kind of work? Do you suggest it as an aid to my recovery? I feel sure that your rdg. will prove invaluable.”
