This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 19th day of November, 1925, in accordance with request made by her mother, Mrs. […].

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with further suggestions for the improvement of same. You will also answer the questions regarding this body that I ask you.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here. We have had this before, you see. Now, we find the physical conditions in general are somewhat improved in the body, through the general vitality and resistive forces in the system, also those enlivenments for the various central points in the nerve system, that have to do with the specific conditions in the body. We find these appliances should be given the body under the existent conditions. Those of the Radium Applicator, see? and use this across the body at the 1st dorsal and last cervicals, see? Radium Appliance as found in the Radium Applicator Company, see? Keeping with those general specific conditions as have been given for the system, and we will find these will gradually bring about the change in the system, wherein the body will be able to regain much of the vision, for the paralysis in the optic nerve is that of the nature that the system, in a general rebuilded condition, will be able to overcome the greater portion of this trouble, see? Not wholly atrophied, not wholly paralyzed, yet deadened by lack of vital forces necessary to bring the full reaction to the plane of vision.

3. (Q) Is there any improvement in the vision? (A) Improvement in the strength and vitality of same, and some improvement in vision, for we see the lights, the shades different, see?

4. (Q) Is it advisable for the body to study music, or any other subject, or would it tax her mind and strength so as to retard her improvement? (A) Study of music would assist, for there is much music in the make-up of the body, and those vibrations of music would assist the body in regaining sight and use of sound forces, which is seconded to the vision, see?

5. (Q) Would any of the lately discovered light rays applied to the spinal column, help to strengthen the eyes through the nerves which extend from the eyes to the spinal column? (A) Use this force as we have given. This is that vital latent force from Radio Reactive forces in the system, or RADIUM Reactive forces in system, see?

R1. 11/20/25 EC’s letter to [4531]‘s mother: “I’m enclosing you herewith a copy of the reading as gotten at the appointed time, and I’m in hopes that this will prove of a great deal of help. You will notice that there is the suggestion for Miss [4531] to use the Radium Applicator. These, as I understand, are obtainable from the Radium Applicator Company, Bradbury Building, Los Angeles, California. I am in hopes that you will give this a try, for I believe they are sold on a guarantee basis. That is, you try it out for thirty days and if you do not see some results, you may return the applicator and your money would be refunded. This, I think, if fully in answer to the question, ‘Would any of the lately discovered light rays applied to the spinal column help to strengthen the eyes through the nerves?’ and I’m certainly in hopes this will prove beneficial in this instance…”

R2. 12/2/25 [4531]‘s letter to EC: “I wish to thank you for the last reading you gave me. It reached me about a week ago and Mother and I feel very much encouraged and hopeful since reading it. Mother has written to the Radium Applicator Company and we are now awaiting a reply.”

R3. 12/31/25 [4531]‘s letter to EC: “The Radium Solar Pad which you recommended for me to wear came a week ago today and I have worn it faithfully ever since.

“When Mother ordered it she wrote them a little about my condition as was requested. In their letter of reply, they advised me to wear the pad on the small of the back during the day and on the stomach at night, and their letter mentioned that a doctor had been consulted. However, it is your reading that I feel I should follow and you have told me to wear the pad between the first dorsal and the last cervicals. Up to now I have worn the pad as you advised in the morning or until the middle of the afternoon, at my back until I retired, and on the stomach during the night. It is quite awkward to wear between the dorsal and cervicals and also conspicuous at the back of the neck, and that is one reason why I have not worn it there when I am dressed for the afternoon and evening or at night in bed. If you think best I might accustom myself to wear it there at night as well as in the morning. I would be very grateful to have your opinion.

“I am not going to say that I do not notice any improvement in my sight as yet, but will say that I think my attitude regarding the possibilities of my recovering my sight has changed since I received your second reading, for up to that time I seemed unable to make myself believe that I might get better and could not cast off the belief in the negative opinions for the improvement of my sight, which had been instilled into me by my doctors in whom I had faith quite naturally. But now I am trying to convince myself that I am, and will get better, and am feeling more cheerful…”

R4. 1/4/26 EC’s letter to [4531]: “I thank you very much for yours of the 31st and I am sure that you are realizing already that your mental attitude toward your condition will have everything in the world to do with your improvement, for as your own self is awakened to the possibilities of the divine forces of the All Good and Perfect Giver that may manifest through YOU, you are bound to grow better day by day, for all of the various conditions that are used to assist is as that man may seek Him and happy is he that finds HIM. Now, I’m glad to know that you’ve gotten the applicator and I know it’s bound to do you a whole lot of good. The manner and way in which you have been wearing this up to the present time, in my opinion, is all satisfactory. I am of the opinion that the hypothesis from which the makers of the applicator work is that the vibration set up in the solar plexus reach those all over the system. However, in your individual case, the centers, as I am sure that need the stimulation, are those in the lower cervical and upper dorsal. While the change in the afternoons to the lower dorsal will not hinder the working of this, it’s well to wear it across the abdomen at night if possible. Be sure that you let it recharge itself sufficient - but that I know you look after. We want to, by the first weeks in February, if possible, make another reading and check up on your condition at that time…”

R5. 3/15/26 [4531]‘s letter to EC: “I have been visiting out of town for several weeks so have delayed in answering your last letter in which you said you would like to give me another reading.

“I don’t feel as optimistic as I did the last time I wrote you when I thought that my attitude was more as it should be to induce improvement of my condition. I seemed to have slipped back into my old ways of being encouraged about my eyesight for a short while only to be followed by a longer period of discouragement when I feel I should try to work out my present problems rather than dwell on my handicap, and only have keener disappointment because I see no improvement in it after all these years of trying to get rid of it.

“I have worn the Radio-active pad day and night since Christmas and see no change whatever, even in my physical condition and have had two severe colds in that time. I will continue to wear it for as the manufacturer said, my case is severe and will require a long treatment.

“Am I looking for too great a miracle or am I too impatient? Then again I think I may not be the right subject for you. If I had been brought up a Baptist, or a Methodist instead of Unitarian, I might be more in readiness for healing by faith as far as mental and spiritual attitude goes. I am not turning down Unitarianism. I fear that my difficulty lies within myself, and I’m just in a quandary about it all. Perhaps I shouldn’t have written you at all, almost a year ago, since I have this feeling of inadequateness but hope lives eternal, and I have that. I don’t like to think of your time being wasted on me if I am the half-hearted person myself - analysis makes me out to be.

“I have written all this because I think you should be told how I feel. I appreciated your last letter very much with its words of encouragement and its sincere tone of personal interest.”

R6. 3/20/26 EC’s letter to [4531]: “I have yours of the 15th and hardly know how to answer your letter. I assure you I do NOT desire to persuade you to adhere to some suggestions that you don’t feel are going to do you any good, yet I want to impress that it IS my sincere desire to be of help if possible. Hence the suggestion that I made as regarding another reading… I’m of the opinion that your being a Unitarian has nothing whatever in the world to do with it, for God is God of the Unitarians the same as He’s God of the Baptists and Methodists, and each individual manifests that individual conception of the Creator in the earth plane; for, that we call church or religion is an INDIVIDUAL matter, and it’s combined radiations that body we call a church, denomination, cism or ism…”

R7. 4/15/26 [4531]‘s letter to EC: “I am sorry I have been so long in answering your nice letter of the twentieth of last month, but I just couldn’t decide what to write you. I do agree with what you said about God and Unitarians and the individual, etc. Perhaps I am suffering from too much introspection. But I feel that to have faith and hope means being cheerful all the time, and I’m afraid I’m not quite that for losing my sight and a few other happenings or influences in my life have embittered me somewhat. But things may not be as bad as I make out!

“Your little booklet was inspiring and I felt cheerful and encouraged after Mother read it to me. I am the kind of a person who needs to be buoyed up occasionally by someone stronger willed or spirited than myself. I still deeply desire the recovery of my physical sight. Mother would like me to have another reading, and I would, too. I have heard from a church service over the radio the quotation from the Bible ‘His will is my will.’ I cannot help but feel convinced that is so, and that if it is not His will for me to have my sight again, that I will not recover it, and that I will be able to fill my place in this life just as effectively without sight as with.

“I am taking piano lessons now and enjoy practicing and playing very much. I learn my new pieces by the Braille method which, as yet, is not very easy for me to do, and patience-taxing, but I get a lot of pleasure after they are learned.”

R8. 4/20/26 EC’s letter to [4531]: ”…It was very nice of you to find the little booklet encouraging and cheerful, and to tell me of it as you did, for I am sure you realize, Miss [4531], we are all more or less alike. We may have high ideals and fancies, and feel that our life is being made worthwhile, but at times there come the discouragements that seem to wipe away much of the vision, and a cheery word from someone inspires us to do more and more. I’m in hopes that you are not going to become discouraged. I feel we should make ourselves content but never satisfied. We realize that all healing, all power, rests in Him, in whom we have our being. He has not desired, neither does he wish anyone to suffer, and if we do so it is often lack of knowledge of Him. This is not that we should become so introspective or self-condemning that one would say ‘Well, what is the use? I am so and so, I can’t help it. Nothing I have ever done has been of any relief.’ We surely must recognize, He is the same yesterday, today and forever, and as He gives Life and Light and Hope to those yet unborn, why may He not open the eyes of those that are afflicted? For all power is His, if we will only allow that spark of the divine within to recognize this fact, why may it not come with healing in its wings to us? For if we can hide ourselves in the shadow of His wing, we are safe from all cares of this world. Mind is the builder. That’s why it is said to us, ‘Let that mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus, whose mind and soul desire and life was to make His will One with the Father.’

“Man, created in the image of God, and with a will, has the ability to apply His mind in the creating of conditions in accordance with the Universal Forces, as are manifest in this physical world, and as we are able to awaken to the consciousness of that divine within us, the more capable we become of applying this very active force in our lives. Hence we have faith, hope, love. None of these may be seen, yet the presence of each is the most vital force as is seen in the physical world or the spiritual, for it partakes of the divine in the application of either of these. Then WHY should you be discouraged? For you will overcome all of this. ‘What ye ask in my name, believing, ye shall have, ye shall have.’

”…Let me hear from you whenever you have the opportunity. I assure you I shall be more than glad to make another reading at any time you may wish to appoint, just so it does not conflict with some other appointment…”

R9. 4/29/26 [4531]‘s letter to EC: “Your letter was just wonderful and makes me feel that I must make a greater effort to direct my mind to thoughts of cheer, and hope and faith of better things both in my physical health and spiritually. Last Sunday I was very much interested when I heard my minister say that his sermon was to be on the ‘Gospel of Good Health.’ He emphasized the words ‘I will fear no evil for Thou are with me’ and I think that is such a comforting thought.

“Yes, I would like another reading. Will Wednesday afternoon, May 12th, at three P.M. Eastern Standard time, be all right for you? That will be four o’clock day light savings time for me. P.S. I do not know of any specific questions I would like to ask outside of those pertaining to my eyes.”
