This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 5th day of April, 1927, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [4630].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ill.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time. You will diagnose the case thoroughly, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
Now, we find there are many abnormal conditions with this body. Some of these may be corrected. Others may be improved by very persistent care and attention, and by building up the body in such a way and manner as to overcome these conditions. There are those conditions that have been produced by improper treatments to the body.
-
These, then, are conditions as we find them:
-
IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, with the condition existent in the system, this is necessarily ever in a state of constant change, with often lacking the abilities to meet the needs of the body, dependent in its functioning upon proper assimilation and elimination as is carried on by circulation.
-
IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, in this we find there are many centers overtaxed, and many that are relaxed to that point wherein these do not function through their proper channel. This is seen - particularly so - in the dorsal and the lower cervical region. In the structural portions of body about the cervical, there is seen that deficiency caused by the inroads of structural decomposition in the structural body, and by the removing of those portions muscular forces have been severed in the manner that does not allow proper functioning. This may be assisted by the general building up, and by specific conditions to meet the needs of the body.
-
IN THE FUNCTIONING OF THE ORGANS, we find all under strain, and the coordination being practically annulled by the condition in the nerve systems. These not coordinating - for cerebrospinal and sympathetic severed in a ganglion causes improper reaction, one with another.
-
In the application, then, for the conditions, we find these will of necessity be of that nature as to build for the system, and will necessitate changing from time to time. Begin first with these, applied in this way and manner:
-
Have that prepared of the Balsam of Sulphur - at least one pound, or two pounds, at the time, and this massaged in the cerebrospinal system, from the solar plexus, or the waist line, to the head - at least twice each week, preferably Tuesdays and Fridays, see? and the body may lie prone when this is being massaged in the system, see? Then cleanse the body after such massage with a weak alkaline solution. Necessary, of course, that brace be worn until the body has changed sufficient to overcome these conditions. The action of this in the system is to rejuvenate the muscle and the nerve centers to such an extent as to produce more stability, and, too, the absorption of that massaged in system will cleanse the system in the manner that the assimilated portions will cause the more normal eliminations through PROPER channels, and we would apply and wear at all times - save at night, when this may be laid aside, or across the upper portion of body - that of the Radium Appliance, for this becomes necessary to meet those conditions in the bone structure and that in the blood supply to meet the needs of the conditions. This will bring much relief to the body at the present.
-
When this two pound quantity of the Balsam of Sulphur is used, we would give then those conditions as to be met for the better IMPROVEMENT of this body, [4630].
-
(Q) Which Radium Appliance should be used? (A) The regular.
-
(Q) Across what part of the body should it be laid at night? (A) Across the upper portion of the lungs or throat, see?
-
(Q) And on which part should it be worn during the day? (A) Across that plexus from the 6th and 7th dorsal.
-
(Q) How much Balsam of Sulphur should be massaged into the body at a time? (A) About what would be held in the hand, see? See, the Balsam of Sulphur is Sulphur boiled in oil, and is of a dark mealy, or liquid - heavy - of this combination, see?
-
(Q) What alkaline solution would be best to cleanse this with? (A) About half tablespoonful of baking soda to the gallon of water. This prevents irritation, see?
-
(Q) Should the alkaline solution be used right after the massage? (A) When the body is cleansed, use alkaline solution. From the massage, the body is more or less sticky or gummy, see? A few minutes afterwards use the alkaline solution.
-
(Q) Any special diet for the body? (A) This has been followed rather carefully by the body. These will be met by the various conditions as are to be given farther along, for these will be changed to meet the various conditions as are seen. Keep that, as the body is a very good dietician in and for itself, for it watches after itself with care - for this condition is of long standing, see?
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 4/6/27 EC’s letter:
My dear Mrs. [4630]:
I enclose you, herewith, the reading as was gotten, and I am in hopes that you will follow out the suggestions as are given for the improvement of your physical condition.
As you will notice from the reading, after you have used the one full quantity of the Balsam of Sulphur, as a massage for the body, you should have another reading made for the conditions at that time.
I am sure you can have this Balsam of Sulphur prepared by the Martin Drug Company, 265 Granby Street, Norfolk, Va., but it is necessary that you send the full reading to them with your order for the two pounds of Balsam of Sulphur. They, of course, will return it, with your order.
Now the Radium Appliance - you will order from The Radium Appliance Company, Bradbury Building, Los Angeles, California.
It is not necessary for you to send them anything except the order for the appliance. This will be sent to you C.O.D. $17.50, and after you have used same for twenty days, unless you feel you see some improvement, it may be returned and they will refund your money. But I am sure you will find that these will bring about the conditions necessary for an improvement in your physical condition.
I hope you will let us hear from you from time to time, and let us know about the other reading in time for us to make the appointment.
Hoping to have been of service, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce, EC:GD

You will hear from me from time to time and when I get that far for another reading. Have sent for the orders. Can hardly wait until I can start.
Yours very Grateful [4630]

NAME Mrs. [4630]
ADDRESS …, Ill.
Kindly advise us in the space below if you have followed all, or any part, of the suggestions given in your reading of April 5, 1927, and give us in detail the exact results you have obtained.
I am following all the suggestions which are given in the Reading. There was some delay in getting the Balsam of sulphur, am using it now three weeks Tuesday and Friday evenings. The Radio Active Pad, I received three weeks ago after wearing it three days I was nearly blistered and my condition was worse so I left it off a few days. I wear it again two weeks constantly day and night. It does not draw like that anymore and I feel much better again. Will not give up the Pad when the time expires as I think it does me good and it would not be a fair trial for the long standing of my condition. Will write again in about two weeks.
R6. 6/1/27 [4630]‘s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce
I promised to write in two weeks but as it goes so slow I though I would wait another week. I wear the Radio Pad day and night exposing it twice daily to sunlight or the strongest obtainable daylight according to directions but we have very few sunlight days the last two months its mostly gloomy and rainy days. The Pad sure could work better if it would get the sun.
I could not get the Balsam of Sulphur prepared by the Martin Drug Co. they wrote back if I could tell the percentage of sulphur to be used then they would prepare it for me so I went to the Druggist here in town and asked him. He told me how to boil it he said I could do that myself it would be so much cheaper for me it was 60 cents a 1 1/2 lb. now I would like to know if the next Reading should be given after this is used up or is it best to use two lbs. the way Reading tells. The Druggist said I should try it on a small amount he could not tell how much it would be after it would be done. I have enough yet for about two weeks.
I will keep this up because I just think it will help me. I feel much better than I did after wearing the Pad a few days but I could not go without the brace.
Yours Truly [4630]
R7. 6/7/27 EC’s letter:
Dear Mrs. [4630]:
Replying to yours of June 1st, I am certainly very glad to know that you are feeling some improvement, and I am hoping that with improved conditions in the weather - giving you the opportunity to have full benefits from the pad - that you will be feeling a whole lot better. I would keep up the massage with the Balsam of Sulphur, until the whole two pounds is used. Then sometime the first or the middle of July we will be able then to get the other reading, and see how you have progressed.
Of course I know you realize that the improvement is going to come slowly at first, anyway. It is a great deal harder to build up than it is to tear down, and while we may have outward applications, the real building, of course, must come from within the body itself. Do not use the Balsam of Sulphur to the extent that it produces a rash, which might occur from getting damp or wet. Don’t have that trouble. Be careful of keeping your feet dry, especially. Don’t try to do without your brace until you have gained a whole lot in strength, and ability to control all of the nerve and muscular forces of the body. I appreciate your writing, and assure you it is our desire to be of help.
Let us hear from you again by the first of July. With kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
R8. 6/30/27 [4630]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I still am using of the 1 1/2 lb. Balsam of Sulphur the last time I wrote I though it would be enough for about two weeks but it will last now yet for a week or two. I got some more to boil the other 1/2 lbs. so I think we have to postpone the next reading for some time in August if I should use the two lbs. of Balsam of Sulphur.
I am slowly improving so I am satisfied. If its alright with you like this you do not need to answer I will write again sometime in July.
Yours truly [4630]
R9. 7/28/27 [4630]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce
I want to let you know how I am getting along as this is the latter part of July already I think you are anxious to hear from me. Since Sunday my head is worse again and don’t know that I done anything that could be the cause as I am very careful about the work I do and follow the suggestions that is given in the reading. If you could make an appointment for the other readings sometime in August I would appreciate it very much as I am worried.
I have a class in Sunday school if I feel Sunday again as I did last Sun. I am afraid I have to give it up I could hardly manage it. Hoping to hear from you soon.
Yours Truly [4630]
R10. 8/15/27 EC’s letter:
Dear Mrs. [4630]:
I’m sure you are wondering why you haven’t heard from us before this. There has been so much on hand - with the making of preparations for the actual erection of the institution - that my correspondence has been sadly neglected for some weeks. I am hoping though that you have been getting along better than when you wrote on the 28th - for if you haven’t I’m sure you would have written me to make the appointment for the reading before this. Whenever you feel you would like to have another reading to check up on the conditions, we shall be glad to make the appointment for you.
Let us hear from you whenever you have the opportunity.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
R11. 8/22/27 [4630]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I was so glad to receive your letter as I was disappointed when I received the letter from the Association. I’m not financially situated as to become a member. I don’t want to be under no obligations if you would want to give me another reading under the same conditions as the last I would only be too glad to have another. I was very bad for 2 or 3 weeks but am feeling so much better again the last few days. If ever I will be able to pick up my work again I will make good which I cannot do now.
Hoping to hear from you again and wishing every success for the Institution
Sincerely [4630]
R12. 8/31/27 EC’s letter:
Dear Mrs. [4630]:
Replying to yours of the 22nd, we were very glad to have your letter, and we certainly are glad to know you were feeling some better when you wrote - and I hope you will continue to do so.
I want to make some explanation, Mrs. [4630], about the work of the Association. It is NOT the purpose of the Association to work a hardship on anyone. Rather its purpose is to be able to more effectively assist those desiring information through these sources. Neither is it the purpose to make one feel that they are under obligations in obtaining readings when they are not financially able to contribute a full membership to the Association. Neither does it intend to make one feel in such a position that they are charity patients. But, as you well know, when one goes into a proposition and has to make definite plans and have various groups of individuals who are making a scientific study of the phenomena and the results that individuals obtain through following the suggestions of same, we have to know just about how the thing is set up. Something on the order of the minister. While it is not compulsory for people to contribute to the church, yet each one knows the minister and his helpers must live as others, and it is necessary then to make a definite budget and from the purely business standpoint we have to know how that budget is to be made up. So, rest assured - whenever you want an appointment made for another reading - you will only have to write to us, and you may contribute whatever you see fit. This will be credited toward your membership, and while a membership at the present time may not mean anything more than the ability to obtain readings through the regular channels, we feel very sure that as this data is gathered and gotten in shape so it may be distributed to the members of the Association, this membership is going to prove very much worth while to anyone who cares to study the various phases of life and the phenomena of life, for we feel very sure that the source of information will not be excelled anywhere in the world.
Thanking you for your letter, and hoping we may hear from you again, and with all good wishes,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
R13. 9/8/27 [4630]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Enclosed find check for $10. Please make an appointment for a Reading to your convenience. I have not been getting any worse since my last letter. Get along pretty good can go without brace sometimes. For working I wear it. Had very much trouble in eating to bring the food to my mouth on the fork but this is better than it was. Would like to know if sewing harms me. Made my living with dress making but had to give up on account of this ailment after I had the brace a few months I started to do a little sewing and kept it up since. It was the easiest thing I could do and I just had to do something to meet expenses.
My voice is often kind of husky would also like to know if its any thing serious there is so much phlegm in my throat especially in the morning.
Hoping that you can give me a Reading soon. I am
Yours Truly [4630]
R14. 9/13/27 EC’s letter:
My dear Mrs. [4630]:
Replying to yours of the 8th, we are making the appointment
- as you will see from the enclosed card - for the morning of the 19th. From your letter, Mrs. [4630], I think it would be very well for you to make a list of questions to have asked when this reading is given. I am certainly glad to know you are feeling better, and I hope you will continue to do so - and I certainly trust we may offer some suggestions at this time that will prove even more beneficial at this time than we have gotten thus far.
Hoping we may be of service, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
R15. 9/15/27 Questions submitted:
The questions are:
Is there still a goitre and does it cause any trouble. What is the cause of that pain in my throat sometimes does that cause that phlegm. Does Dress making harm me. Should I continue wearing the brace. Could anything be done for my right arm since the operation I can not raise it above my head.
Hoping this will reach you before the Reading. I am
R16. 9/15/27 [4630]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce
Yours of the 13th received. Thank your for the appointment.
When I started with this affliction I had a goitre the Dr. thought that it was the cause of pulling my head to the side it was inward, but after taking tablets for a few months the goitre got smaller but my head got worse so he said it can’t be the goitre because it was so much smaller. So I had an X Ray taken but nothing showed on there except a shadow under the chest but the Dr. didn’t think much of it. Later I had another taken at the Clinic. There they said it didn’t show anything wrong.
If I ask too many questions leave sewing and brace out just so I get the main thing.
