GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [464]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, conditions are not so good. There was, first, not the carrying out of those suggestions last indicated to eradicate the poisons from the system; to better produce coordination between heart, liver and kidneys.
-
NOW we find there are those tendencies toward a sclerosis. [cirrhosis?] And this, unless there are measures taken, may bring about inabilities of the body to walk. Or the condition will become a lingering illness, with the inability for use of the locomotories - to any great extent.
-
There needs be, as we find, a thorough cleansing of the system. Not by producing great strains upon one portion of the system to the detriment of others, but as a coordinant activity.
-
We would first have any good cleansing agent. Preferably, as we find, under the existent conditions, use the ragweed compound, - that is, Simmons’ Liver Regulator. Take in broken doses, but take until it has acted thoroughly. This may tend to produce nausea, - it may tend to produce a series of headaches; yet it is the beginning of those things necessary, if we would bring reactions to prevent the sclerosis condition continuing so as to cause the deficiency in the supply of the vital energies to sustain or maintain the nerve energy or activity.
-
After this has acted well, rest for about two days and then begin and, at least every eight days until four or five have been taken, have a good hydrotherapy treatment. This would include at each period a colonic irrigation, not too much water used at once, but at least two and one-half gallons in each of the irrigations. Do use in this the cleansing properties that may act with the gastric flow, or the lymph circulation through the colon area; that is: to each gallon of water put two level teaspoonsful of table salt and one heaping teaspoonful of baking soda. Have the water body temperature. In the last water, and use a gallon for this, put two tablespoonsful of Glyco-Thymoline. Have each of these solutions body temperature; not colder, not hotter.
-
After a little rest period, follow the colonic with a very mild sweat, - not in the dry cabinet but in a Fume Bath, - in which there is put half a teaspoonful of Tincture of Iodine in a pint of water boiling in a croup cup, or in an open container in the cabinet, where the body is, so that the fumes of this moisture will settle over the body.
-
Then there should be a shower or spray, followed by a rubdown with a combination of oils in these proportions:
Olive Oil…2 ounces, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Lanolin, dissolved…1 teaspoonful.
Shake these together and rub the body with same.
-
After at least the third or fourth of such treatments, begin with taking vitamins. For, the body is deficient in B and B-Complex, as well as in C and G. Thus, as we find, the B-1 Complex tablets would be taken - the One-A-Day brand, but drink at least four ounces of orange juice each day - preferably at the same time the One-A-Day tablet is taken, see? Do not begin the tablets until at least three or four of the hydrotherapy treatments have been taken.
-
These as we find, with care, will bring better conditions for this body. Do not do one of these and leave off one. Do ALL of them OR none!
-
We are through with this Reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/18/42 “I have made arrangements for the treatments, for the colonics and all the rest. My eyes are not so good any more …Oh, how I wish I could walk and get around like any other person. This cripple stiff [stuff?] doesn’t go over so big with me. I guess you think I am selfish, always thinking of myself and my own miseries.”
R2. 6/24/42 EC’s letter: “Know you must be lonesome for your daughter and the little folks. While we have never had a daughter, our secretary has become almost like a daughter, but we do miss our boys…so Mrs. C. and I are about to be left alone, as Miss Gladys, who has been with us for 16 yrs. in the home, is moving to her own home next month.”
R3. 6/26/42 “I went to Miss Butterfass for the big tr. colonic, steam, etc.] and I felt fine after it. It was like a little bit of heaven to get away from home for an hr. or so. I hadn’t been away from the house for months… I am still grieving over the way [daughter […]] went away and left me here alone… [Husband] has always leaned on me for everything, he is like a child.”
R4. 7/8/42 Mrs. [464]‘s ltr. to EC: ”…I am going to give an account of myself. I went to Miss Butterfass tonight for a 3rd colonic and I got into a jam. She advised me not to take any more of the liver regulator for she said there is nothing in you not a thing after the colonic so I decided to write to you for advice. She followed the directions just as you gave them in the Reading. After the first treatment I felt fine ready for anything I hadn’t felt so good for ages. Then [husband] had that trouble [prostate operation advised] and the worry of it threw me off my balance completely. I haven’t felt so tough for a long time. Worry always has a bad effect on my nerves. I can’t take anything I get weak all over and trembly and my legs give out at least they get like soft rubber. Too bad they are not rubber I might donate them to Uncle Sam or make a trade for a better pair. Well I know all is not well for I have a bitter taste in my mouth like I had when I had the jaundice Dr. Evans gave me some liver pills then to take 3 a day for a month, and I did when I went to Miss Butterfass tonight - I wasn’t feeling good at all, weak and nervous, for a long time when ever I went out in the car and when we turned a corner, I got light-headed …I have been taking the treatments I am not like that any more. I was out riding with [2144] on the 4th and I felt O.K. riding and I was glad of it. One point gained, but I am not satisfied yet. Well tonight we left Miss Butterfass at 8:20 and do you think we could get a taxi to take us home. They were all busy at the Stadium big goings on down town there. I stood on the curb for half an hour ready to collapse any minute waiting for one to go by, but none came so we decided [Husband] and I to take a streetcar to the nearest place to home so while waiting [Husband] suggested we go to the depot at 55 and Euclid. So I had to walk weak as a cat and my head in a whirl and the way he was holding my arm gave people the impression I was drunk by the way they looked at me and I looked a sight too. I was humiliated to death. [Husband] went off and left me standing leaning against a post in the middle of the road. Oh boy was I ashamed. He was looking for a taxi. Finally a man came along in a car going home from work. [Husband] asked him if he would take us home. The man said no then when he saw me he said yes he would. So he brought us home and I said to him this is a God blessed relief for me I explained to him what happened he was very kind and good, and I was so grateful to him for I was ready to drop. I am not used to walking especially where there is so much going on as on Euclid Ave. That awful busy corner at 55th. However I lived through it. My arm is trembling so I can’t write very good hope you can make it out. I am kind of anxious to get on with the vitamin tablets
- if they will give me any strength. I will have a check reading when you say so. Right now my mouth is as bitter as gaul. That has to be corrected. Sometimes I wonder if this old ship is worth it. I have had so much misery for the past 30 years. My life is more or less a burden to me.
I don’t want to have to go for any more treatments if I have to stand in the middle of the road hanging onto a post like a drunk (we phoned for a taxi twice none available for 1/2 an hour) I am always getting into some kind of a jam. I have taken 3 colonics. I will go again if I have to but not unless I do.
The gastric juice and the bile does not assimilate in my stomach to digest my food so there is where the trouble comes in.
Well I hope you can read this letter it is as much as I can do. I am very unhappy. I am not the same jolly old party that I used to be. Have no one to laugh and joke with any more. All dead… The liver regulator didn’t make my stomach sick or give me a headache but it was mean in other ways made me light-headed.
[Husband] hasn’t heard of the Elliott treatment [that EC mentioned] yet he is trying to find out he has a boil on his shoulder. I thought at first it was another carbuncle but it isn’t, so much trouble worry and fuss.”
R5. 8/10/42 “I would appreciate a rdg. as soon as you can give it to me… Did I start the vitamins too soon, before the bile is settled in my system, or what? What a time I am having. My mother and father were both the bilious type.”

B2. 6/6/42 “My heart and nerves acted up all winter long. At the present time I have been scared almost to death… I thought I was losing the use of my legs, and I don’t know what to do about it. This just happened the last few days. If I eat anything it turns so acid that it is like vinegar in my stomach… I never got over that intestinal trouble I had when I got my last rdg. I have felt all caved in on my left side, not in my stomach but near the spleen. It is a most terrible feeling. My mind is constantly on myself and my nerves, which is all wrong I know.”
