This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of January, 1936, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [480], through Associate Membership of her husband in the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:10 to 11:25 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Detroit, Mich. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [480]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, conditions are CONTINUING to show - in the greater manner - improvements; or nearer to normal REACTIONS.
-
However, at times those reflections still continue to arise from the incoordinations in the cerebro-spinal and sympathetic nerve forces, from the lack of proper coordination in ELIMINATIONS and ASSIMILATIONS.
-
But if there would be continued to be kept, in a COORDINANT manner, those suggestions FOR the improvements, we would find normalcy coming nearer and nearer to the proper reactions.
-
When there are those tendencies for the dizziness, and for the headaches that arise from same, we find that a SPECIFIC character of treatment at such times would relieve the conditions for the IMMEDIATE. At such times, then, let there be held a pressure (rather than a great amount of treatment) that would equalize the flow from or at the 1st and 2nd cervical and the 4th lumbar. This would be with the body lying prone, preferably; that is, upon the back. Hold this pressure for a few minutes, and - as we find - the body would respond. (It has just recently needed such a treatment, you see.) For, as we have indicated, the conditions that are disturbing are from these incoordinations in these areas.
-
But keep also the regular treatments that have been outlined, to make for a continued improvement.
-
In the periods just prior to the eliminations through the regular channels (the menstrual flow), it would be well to continue the use of the Tonicine; though it may be reduced, dependent upon the manner in which the body HAS responded to the GENERAL conditions, see?
-
The Ventriculin, that supplies the enzymes for the system, we would continue in the manner that has been indicated.
-
We will find that those food values are best that make for the eliminating forces of the body through the alimentary canal; that is, leafy vegetables will make for the better eliminations - also, as a part of the diet (in the mornings or evenings), use either stewed figs, raisins, apricots, or pears occasionally. All of these will be found to be most helpful to the body in these directions.
-
The general treatments occasionally taken we would follow. Save the specific character of treatment as we have just indicated, continue same to the lower extremities and relieve the pressure from the feet also. This will make for better coordination.
-
Keep the activities of the body, physically and mentally, in constructive ways. Find each day that thou hast practiced that which has been assumed by those of other groups; that is, each day let the body mentally know that it has DONE a CONSTRUCTIVE deed. [Boy Scout]
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should the Ventriculin be taken more often than ten grams once each day? (A) As we find, if this amount was divided and taken twice a day - but the same quantity, it would be more effective.
-
(Q) Would a four-week trip to Florida during February and March be recommended? (A) This would be well for the body, provided that all of those conditions that go to make up the general treatment are adhered to; and not too MUCH of a strain or change made in the general physical activities of the body. The CLIMATIC conditions would be well, but if the diets and the physical activities are so changed as to counterbalance same, we may have a return of other disturbing forces!
-
(Q) In giving the treatment at the time of dizziness and headache, should the pressure be held on both points at the same time? (A) As given, both points at the same time; the 1st and 2nd cervical and the 4th lumbar. This would create a current of contact, as it were, and thus gradually ease the whole condition.
-
(Q) Is there improvement in general condition? (A) As given. Improvement in general condition, so that the reactions are nearer to normal; though disturbing conditions, as indicated, at TIMES occur.
-
(Q) Any other advice for the general welfare? (A) Do that as indicated, as we find, in the present.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 1/18/36 GD’s note: “What are you going to do about Florida? As soon as the rdg. was over, [480], Mrs. Cayce and I both said, ‘I bet they don’t go to Florida!’ And then Mrs. Cayce added, ‘unless Dr. Thompson goes too!’”
R2. 1/27/36 Mother [601]‘s ltr. to EC: “Mrs. Cayce and Gladys win their bet, [480] does not go to Florida. We realize that [480]‘s improvement is a slow process, and she is much better off following her present routine as the rdg. indicated.”
R3. 1/28/34 “I have been feeling a great deal better since I had my last rdg. I haven’t yet had to try the tr. given for a headache or such. So I must be, as the rdg. indicates, well on the way to complete recovery. Of course, there are times when I get discouraged but that is due, I am sure, to this particular disturbance. I have gained a little weight which is good - a good indication considering my diet.”
R4. She requested 633-4 for husband.
R5. 2/4/36 Letter to EC: [2/3/36 See ltr. Par. R6 below]
Dr. John R. Thompson Osteopathic Physician 421 Stevens Building Detroit, Michigan
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Have had this same piece of paper out a half dozen times intending to write you - and each time am interrupted and then hear something more about your coming to Detroit - and thusly postpone writing for a few days. In fact to my latest knowledge you may be on your way here as I write this, but suspect you’ll avoid this climate at this time of year if possible. Even as I write this my fingers are too cold to do a good job of hitting the right keys; I just got in from lunch. Have also heard that you have been feeling not so well of late - so much so as to not be able to give readings. Hence I have avoided bothering you with a reading for myself at present, being in good health as far as I know. However, as soon as you get to feeling alright, are not so rushed, and get this matter here in Detroit off your mind, I’m going to get myself checked up. If there’s any way I can get a little more fat on my lanky frame I’m going to find out.
I suppose you’ve had quite a lot of winter weather at Virginia Beach this year, as the whole country seems to be thusly afflicted. All in all this will probably be a winter you’ll remember for a long time.
I have been rather busy since the first of the year, most of it being house-calls, with the result that I have been out in the weather most of the time. Was out to [601]‘s the other evening and gave [480] a treatment for a headache according to instructions of the latest reading - i.e. simultaneous pressure at 4th lumbar and 1 & 2 Cervicals - and it certainly did the work, with immediate relief. I have used the Cervical pressure before, but never the combination. Said combination is due to be tried on various cases now - tho I realize that it will work only in some cases, or maybe none, as the cause will probably vary, with each case. I’m interested in it’s possibilities, too.
Have a patient waiting, so will have to terminate this. So, hope you and the family are feeling better now, and that the legal troubles get straightened out without further ado.
Sincerely, Dr. John R. Thompson
R6. 2/3/36 Mother [601]‘s ltr.:
Dr. Thompson tried the new treatment recommended for [480] in her last reading, yesterday when she had a headache, and it worked like magic; she had immediate relief. Dr. Thompson said that was a new one on him; as he had never heard of that kind of pressure before. We all have plenty to learn.
R7. 2/26/36 See 480-25, Ck. Physical for severe cold.
R8. 3/23/36 Mother [601]‘s ltr.: “[480] is fairly well, does not seem able to gain any weight, but keeps on the job and we are thankful she is able to hold her own when she isn’t down with a headache.”
R9. 4/11/36 “[480] has been quite well these past weeks and hope she continues on the improve.”
R10. 4/22/36 “[480] has been coming along nicely. Her skin was very bad last month but has been much clearer this past week. She has been feeling much peppier and am hoping that the warmer weather will bring more definite improvement.”
