This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 322 Grafton Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, this 16th day of December, 1924, in accordance with request made by his mother, Mrs. […].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:15 A. M. Dayton Time. …, N.C.
-
GC: Now you have before you the body of [4844] who is at the Dept. Phipps Clinic 3, occupation shop, John Hopkins Hospital of Baltimore, Md. You will give a physical, mental and spiritual reading on this entity, with suggestions for the improvement of any or all of these.
-
EC: In the physical we find the body much improved from that as we had here before. There still is that lack of perfect coordination reached through the sensory organism and the conscious mental forces. Hence, with the suppression at times of the conscious by pressure in nerve coordination, or lack of same, in the gland that centers about the pineal nerve and gland, with this suppression, the coordination of the sensory vibration brings the hallucinations, the indeterminate reaction in mental proclivities of the body, causing over action of physical forces and the pains that come after such reaction through brain proper.
-
In the mental forces the body very well balanced, capable of being so trained through the subjugation of conscious forces as to overcome this condition, also to give much subconscious, subliminal, reaction that would be worthy of study, and that could be trained properly to be of benefit and help to many.
-
In the spiritual, this we find well defined in normal conditions. In the abnormal, supersensitive reaction to other conditions and other impressions as carried with subconscious forces.
-
Then, for the improvement in the physical, keep constantly those vibrations in system of the tea from Maypop, as has been given, for this constantly gives that incentive in plasmatic cell for brain and nerve development; giving the treatments of subjugation of the consciousness in the mesmeric or hypnotic stage and through such give those suggestions to the body as would bring perfect coordination of all nerve systems in the body. Keeping that ever present in the body in the subconscious forces: “The body well, strong, nothing can bring unbalanced forces. The body will coordinate.” Such suggestions given to the body, and we will find the body will respond to such treatments. These may be given by any honest, sincere individual, who understands the control of the mind in such conditions.
-
Do that, and we will bring the body of [4844] to its normal development physically, the mental conditions far above the ordinary, and the spiritual manifestations that would be beneficial to self and others.
-
We are through for the present.

I certainly hope that you will be able to have the suggestions followed out as given here, and I believe if you do you will find that you will get results.
Again thanking you and hoping to be of service, I am

R2. 1/9/25 [4844]‘s mother’s letter to EC:
“Am writing you to tell you how [4844] seems to be. When I asked you to make the second reading of him, I had not told you I had never given the bitters you prescribed for him, or the osteopathy treatments either because he was at the Hospital at the time. Since I brought him home, I began giving the bitters and treatments at once. We notice a change in him very much. After taking the bitters and treatments about a week, we thought he had an attack, though it was much different from the others. At once he complained of an acute pain in his side, in a few minutes went to sleep. Slept very quietly and a rite long time. When he woke his face was flushed, eyes red and seemed just a little queer, in several hrs. he went to sleep again, made no signs of walking or talking while asleep. As before when he woke again, he seemed better. His face more normal color and has been alright since, which was two weeks ago. Really, rite now, he seems more himself than since we first found something wrong with him. Now, will you please tell me is it the medicine & treatments helping him, or time. Please tell us! Everybody is noticing the change. His face (those pimples are lots better) his appetite is good, general health good. He is strong. For several weeks he hasn’t made any attempt to get up, as we know of. PLEASE, tell me! if there is anything in the medicine that is or would be harmful, in anyway, cause of its continuance. Have given him about two oz. of the four; you said first reading give him all the four. Must I give him all of the four and continue the treatments. Has taken three a week, for nearly three. Tell me just how to do please. It’s now, twelve months ago, since his first symptoms began. He is now 15 yrs. old. Will this medicine hurt him in any way? We know there is a big change in him some way. Is he just under the influence of the medicine now while taking it. If I was to stop giving it to him, would he be back like he was before giving it to him? Am sure you will think I’m asking lots of questions. Hope you will understand how interested we are in our boy’s life, is why we have asked so much and many questions. For he has startled the world where he is known of. Do you really think the bad attacks and walking will return? He is home in …, N.C. now. He is very anxious to return to school at Staunton, Va. a military school. Must I keep him home or let him go back? Please let me hear from you at your earliest convenience.
“P.S. At some times he is rite nervous, then quiet enough. Thanking you so much for your kindness. We are anxiously awaiting your answer.”
R3. 1/18/25 Mother’s letter to EC:
“I wrote you about a week or more ago, in regard to the Maypop bitters we are giving [4844]. Have given him about half of the 4 oz. bottle. He seems to be alright rite now. He seemed to have some kind of an attack not very long after beginning it. Instead of walking or talking, he lay down and went to sleep. That occurred the 23rd of Dec. I have given the medicine regular, also three osteopathy treatments per week. His face is lots better. You know I told you it was very pimply. I wonder will you please tell me if this medicine contains any drug or is harmful in any way by continuing its use? You told me to give as much as four oz. After giving that much, must I get more or stop it or what must I do please? Must I continue the treatments also and how long? Please write me full particulars. We have him home now. He is very anxious to go back to school the first of Feb. He goes to Staunton Military Academy. Do you think it will be safe for him to go or not. Please let me know at once your instructions. Will drilling cause the blood to circulate too freely and cause more danger of attacks than not? Please advise me at once, what to do. Hoping I haven’t asked too much. Must I get more medicine - is it harmful in any way.
“Thanking you for your kindness also.”
R4. 1/22/25 EC’s letter to [4844]‘s mother:
“Yours of the 9th and 18th to hand. I was out of the City from the 9th to the 19th. Consequently, haven’t had the opportunity to answer yours of the 9th before receiving yours of the 18th. I’m certainly glad to know that the young man is showing some change in these conditions. However, I would be afraid to undertake to answer your questions regarding his condition off-hand. I might be able to do so in another reading, and will be glad to undertake same for you on the morning of the 28th, 11:00 A.M. Central Time. Should you desire that I do this, you may write or wire me at once his address at that hour, and I shall be very glad to undertake it for you. I am sure, however, there is no habit forming drug in the Bitters he is taking. I know that from past readings we have had on this medicine, but of course just the conditions as you ask and the other questions as you ask regarding his future, as related to the work that has been done through the osteopath and Bitters, I am unable to give off-hand.
“Thanking you for your letter, and assuring you of our desire to be of help and assistance in this, and trusting that I may hear from you, I am”
R5. 1/24/25 Mother’s letter to EC:
“I received your answer today. Was very glad as we are very anxious over our boy. Am asking you to please make the reading of him on the morning of the 28th at 11 A.M. as you said. He will be at Staunton Military Academy, Staunton, Va. Hoping you most successful in the reading and please tell me how long to continue the bitters and osteopathy treatment. He is a lot better and believe you are the help. Thanking you most heartily. Words can’t express our thanks. Also asking you, do you think going to school will be any harm. He is extremely anxious to go and very energetic and quick to grasp anything. Again thanking you.”
