GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, giving suggestions for the further treatment of same. You will also answer any questions relative to this body that I will ask you.
-
EC: Now, we find the conditions in this body are improved from that as we have had here before. There is the better coordination between the nerve systems and the sensory system, and the cerebro-spinal system and the brain forces of the body in their functioning through these channels.
-
The conditions to keep the body in this general improvement need only be kept in and for the body until the perfect equilibrium is established in the system; keeping the properties of the Maypop Root, and the osteopathic treatments as have been accorded the system, gradually diminishing each; that is, the quantity first, the numbers of doses and treatments next, and as the system is in the better condition, gradually do away with these entirely, UNLESS such conditions should arise as necessitating the increasing in the quantity and number of treatments. This we would not find unless there should be indiscretion in habits, or indiscretion in eating, or indiscretion in the care of the constitutional conditions of body. Be well that the body keep among that environment at present, for this is good; yet the conditions of the properties accorded must be kept for system, but in diminished quantities, first taking half the quantity of the Bitters, or solution; taking half the number of treatments, then gradually giving away to none, for we find the body improving.
-
Do that, [4844].
-
(Q) Is there any drug forming habit in these Bitters? (A) None.
-
(Q) Do his duties in school interfere With his physical health? (A) Better for him to be in school.
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 1/29/25 EC’s letter to [4844]‘s mother: “As you will see, the reading for [4844] was taken this morning. I am certainly glad to note that there has been some improvement in his condition. I believe this is very specific as to how these suggestions should be carried out, what should be done regarding both the osteopathic treatments, the Bitters and school work.
“I thank you very much for your contribution to the work, and as you will see from one of the enclosed forms, I am organizing this into a national institution, and would certainly like to have the cooperation of those interested. We are preparing data for those interested, as to what we expect to do in this association. Be glad to send same to you upon request.
“Trusting you will return this enclosed form to us at once, and with kindest personal regards, and hoping to hear from you, I am”
R2. 2/5 (?)/25 Report sent to [4844]‘s mother re her son’s condition: You will please state in the space below how near, in your opinion reading fits your condition, as you know it yourself, and if you expect to carry out the suggestions made for the improvement of your health.
“I think your suggestions have been beneficial. Am continuing the treatments as you said. Wishing you great success in your work and the building of your Institution.”
R3. 2/15/25 Mother’s letter to EC: “Since the last reading [4844] has had a terrible outbreak. We carried him back to school. He seemed to be alright at home, just as soon as he got there, in two days he commenced falling again, lying a few minutes, getting up, going around with his eyes open, doing abnormal things. He can concentrate with one person at a time. Will not notice anyone else. Work out hard math, write letters or anything crosses his mind while normal. He does it in these trances, goes anywhere. We cannot stop him. When he finishes whatever he wants to do he comes back and wakes up. Doesn’t remember a thing that has happened. Sometimes he blinks his eyes, sitting and talking to you, closes them and gets up and starts. Sometimes his head will fall one sided, his arms drop careless, may begin to talk, say where he is going or that someone is making him do this he can’t help it, that he wants to kill himself, then jumps anywhere and try anyway he can. I have noticed, when I give him the M. bitters his face gets paler for nearly a day and the pimples fade away some. Then it gradually begins to get more flushed. I notice for the last four times these attacks came now, they are four and five weeks apart. Will you tell me if this is a form of epilepsy in anyway? Please we are frightened nearly out of our minds over him. Some Drs. have told us it was, others say not. Please, please if it is, tell me so!! Then we will know what to depend on. What must we do? Is there any help for him? Is this attacks, fits, or spasms? Please tell me, will the maypop bitters help him permanently or momentarily. The Hospital Drs. say he has no form of Epilepsy. Will you please tell me, and just what to do and how. We are helpless with him, distressed out of our lives almost. Please let me hear from you by the earliest mail possible. He is home now in …, N.C. Would it be too often to give him the medicine every day? Will it cure him or is it momentarily? I have confidence in what you have told me, yet he keeps having these attacks and cannot stay at school, why is it? Is it just the time or, school or what makes him worse when he goes back. He would give his life to go back and be well and stay. He has the finest record there of any student ever been there at his age.
“Please let me hear from you as soon as possible.”
