This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 31st day of March, 1927, in accordance with request made by her sister, Mrs. [4329].

Time of Reading 11:40 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ohio.

1. GC: You will answer the questions which I will ask you regarding this body.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here. We have had this before, you see. Ready for questions.

3. (Q) Has the body a growth or any abnormality of the brain to cause continual dizziness - extreme at times? (A) No. Rather that condition in the duodenum which causes pressure on the hypogastric plexus, and through this reflex - and the condition existing in the ganglia about which there are connections in this direction - does this cause the condition as appears in head. Hence that as has been given in the manipulation, and in the pad as should be worn continually by the body, to change this vibration and to relax osteopathically that of the directing connections in the nerve system, that direct the orifice of the duodenum, see? No growth. Rather the stricture there, or closing of the opening.

4. (Q) What causes a feeling of numbness now on both sides of her head? (A) The condition as given causes this numbness, by the retarded circulation.

5. (Q) Does this also cause the pressure as of intense weight in head, eyes, and antrums of face? (A) When the circulation is hindered through these portions, by this pressure as is seen, this causes the heaviness and the weight, and the inability of the body to keep its equilibrium at such times. The pressure from same MIGHT produce a stricture in the brain forces, but not at present. None there. No indication. Only the pressure as is caused there by this retarding of the nerve supply in the portion around about this center. Hence the diffused - or the action of same on both sides of face, rather than pulling from one, for it’s circular in its condition there.

6. (Q) When head rests upon pillow in a certain way she becomes more dizzy and sick. Why is this? (A) More pressure brought to bear on this same directing nerve center, see? This condition may be traced out by the osteopath that would follow the nerve line down the cerebro-spinal column to the 8th and 9th dorsal, see? for at each juncture where the sympathetic, the cerebro-spinal, and the reflexes from the hypogastric connect, these centers show how that the pressure on same given more pressure to the head, and to the sides of the head - for they direct the muscle reaction from the nerve system to the sides of the face and head. Hence, when pressure is brought to bear on one side of head - as is resting, or in one position, where this is cut off - then the pressure becomes severe on the other side, producing more dizziness.

7. (Q) Sometimes acute dizziness strikes her at the back of the neck, and everything whirls; and her stomach is nauseated, and nerves in a state of shock. What is the cause - and remedy? (A) The relaxation osteopathically is the remedy. The cause - the inability of this portion to contract in normalcy to that pressure as produced in hypogastric and pneumogastric plexus.

8. (Q) What is condition of heart? (A) Very good - considering how the taxation of same is assisted or caused to not receive its full and proper nerve reaction along this same line.

9. (Q) Has she any growth, cancer, or ulcers in stomach, liver or spleen? (A) The ORIFICE in the lower portion of stomach has CONTRACTED to that degree where these conditions are apparent. The treatment for same is that vibration set in the system, and by the relaxing of same in the osteopathic manner that will DILATE these conditions, see? Drink plenty of water also. Work same through the stomach - would be well.

10. (Q) Is there any trouble with appendix and kidneys? (A) The kidneys show the reflexes from disturbed condition produced in the hypogastric region. Also the liver, being disturbed by this condition, causes some STRAIN on kidneys - not organic disturbances, as we see.

11. (Q) What is the terrible disorder with intestines? Any growths in rectum or anywhere? (A) The condition as exists in the duodenum, and the effect of same on the mesenteric system causes the disorder throughout the whole intestinal system. We do not find growths in intestines at the present time. Naturally, with the strain that has been caused, we find that the colon is not in its proper alignment. A falling in the descending shows that this strain is given in the whole descending colon. Hence the disturbance and the troubles as are experienced at times by the body. These are reflex conditions produced by that above, see?

12. (Q) Why can she never evacuate the bowels without large doses of physics? Why is she never relieved of fullness afterward? (A) The same condition as just given, see?

13. (Q) What is the abnormal condition of the stomach? (A) That as given. The orifice in the duodenum shows stricture, or a plethora condition, so that the orifice is CLOSED at times. Hence the disturbance in intestinal system, and the pressure as created in the head, see? This same condition may cause or produce ulcerations, were the foods allowed to lie in stomach too long. Hence the necessity of evacuations, or emptying of the stomach, or the creating of salines to such an extent as to pass same through, and the PRESSURE is caused by same, upsetting or destroying the normal activity of all the digestive system.

The relief, as has been given, is in this applying of any of those conditions that will relax. Hot castor oil packs would be well to be used before or after the manipulations are given, see? These will also assist the body in RELAXING, for the proper digestion and for the proper action and passivity of the conditions in the system. We are through with this reading.

R1. 4/5/27 Sister [4329]‘s letter: ”…Mrs. [4848]‘s reading received, and we are both pleased and relieved by its contents. You have done what no-one else could do - given a ‘real x-ray’! From your diagnosis it is easy to see why all the doctors and remedies have failed. The reading is such a satisfaction and we are so relieved to know there are no growths! Yet we realize that the duodenum trouble is quite a serious one which will be hard to overcome. The osteopath read your diagnosis today and said he had found her trouble in the region which you designated. I asked him to try to manipulate slower. My experience with his rapid, forceful work, caused a ‘shock to the nerves’ and I usually ended up with a slight nervous chill - which is wrong, I know. So I explained that lighter, slower movements were more soothing. He agreed - and I hope will remember. The ‘hot oil packs’ is a new remedy. It looks reasonable and sister will try it. She will start taking two osteopathic treatments a week - has only been taking one. She wears the solar pad day and night, but somehow all our efforts to help her have failed. She is hopeful though, now, and so grateful to you that she wishes the enclosed check were much larger! I think, myself, that the reading is marvelous! Of all the reading I have read, this last one, also my last, are exceptional in truths brought out, and I can only say, as I always have, that I fail to see how you do it! Surely you will accomplish great work in your Hospital! If you ever feel like telling me more about the Institution I shall be most interested. It was early in January, I believe, that you last mentioned it. Would also like to hear of your impressions of Florida. There is so much of interest in that wonderful country. Hope you enjoyed the trip as much as I enjoyed mine. Mr. [4847] and Mrs. [4848] join me in loads of sincere good wishes to you and family, including Miss Davis. Thanks to her also…”

Dear Mrs. [4329]:-

Many thanks for yours of April 5th, also for the enclosure. I am certainly glad indeed to know that you and Mrs. [4848] found the reading so satisfactory, and I feel sure that - if you are able to get the doctor to cooperate with you in giving the treatments - you will be able to get results. After treating a few weeks, I would have the doctor to make his own list of questions, and I am sure if he will do this it will tell him just how he should carry out the treatments. I remember very particularly one instance, where Dr. Woodall

• the osteopath in Birmingham, Alabama - had been treating a lady for several weeks. He had about decided that she wouldn’t respond to the treatments, when she came to me for a reading, and the suggestions were for the osteopathic treatments, given in a certain way and manner. Dr. Woodall agreed to carry out this, and did so, with most remarkable results. I hope you will find your man will do the same thing.

I shall be very glad to write you about the institution. Just at the present time we have a whole lot of irons in the fire concerning same, and I’m hoping to see some of these come just right - but I’ll write you more about this just a little bit later.

Our trip to Florida - we all enjoyed it very, very much. While I was very busy all the time I was there, still we had the opportunity of seeing a good deal of the country around Miami. It’s wonderful country! But my opinion is, the sooner the people realize they have nothing close to Miami except a wonderful playground, the better it will be. Now, to me, the country around DeLand, Daytona, and through that part of the country, is quite different. That is WONDERFUL country to me. I wish I could have stayed there for several weeks - but I had a sister there - perhaps that makes a lot of difference, but I’m hoping to have her come to Virginia Beach in the very near future. All in all, I think Florida is a wonderful country, and the resources of the state are marvellous, and I really don’t think that there are but very few of its people that have realized the possibilities of the state, yet it is going to be a long tedious hard task - but it will be done - for it is worth while, and is for the development of our consciousness.

My dear Mr. Cayce:

I am enclosing you some correspondence we have had with one of your clients, and I wish you would read it and then return it as it belongs in our files and are the only copies we have.

Mrs. [4329] seems to be in much perturbed mental and state and I believe she has gotten her sister Mrs. [4848] in the same condition. These are both clients of yours and Mrs. [4848] had marvelous results from the Pad, writing us such a file testimonial that we find it for future use.

You can size the situation up from the letters and perhaps a word from you will straighten this lady out.

The pads looked like they had been treated not so well, but of course I could not say that to her and it was my honest opinion that as long as they were here a re-treat would pep them up and make them in fine condition. The retreat charge of 20% of price of pad means nothing to us at all. We can not even pay an agent commission on a retreat.

Both these ladies should have stronger pads - but not for the world would I have them think I am trying to “sell” them something.

Gentlemen:-

I am in receipt of yours of the 26th, also of the 27th, with the correspondence of Mrs. [4329], I have often heard it said, that it takes all kinds of people to make a world, and I often add: “I think most of them are here.” I cannot understand some people’s slant on life. Something that was given in a reading sometime ago I think is very applicable here: “Consistency, thou art a jewel in anyone!”

I haven’t had a letter from Mrs. [4329] for some time - but will write her at my first opportunity and see what she has to say. The last time she wrote me she seemed to think the pads had been very beneficial to both herself and sister, just as indicated in her letter of April 18th.

Yes, the pad for Mrs. [140] is the same one to whom you sent a pad sometime ago - that one had gotten misplaced some way.

R5. 10/13/27 Sister [4329]‘s letter: ”…Sister [4848] is better again, but very frail at all times. I guess always will be, as she is 70 years old, past. As I mentioned before, she seemed to get results from the solar [Radium] pad the first two or three months - but when I found the strength of MY pad diminishing after only FOUR months’ use, we considered them quite a joke and no longer wondered that she complained of failing to receive benefit during all those latter months of use…”

R6. 12/23/27 Sister [4329]‘s letter: ”…Sister [4848] was unable to carry out your last instructions, as we did not like the way the local osteopath operated, but we think your diagnosis of her is quite correct…”
