This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 20th day of August, 1927, in accordance with request made by self - [4859].

Time of Reading 12:00 Noon - Eastern Standard Time. …, Texas.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for the further improvement of same.

2. EC: We have the body here. This we have had before, you see.

3. Now, we find there are very definite changes taking place in the physical forces of the body. While there are retractions in the physical forces, yet - with the added stimuli to the system from a better coordination of the blood supply, and hence a stabilized nerve reaction - the body shows improvement; yet - as we find, under the present existent conditions - these changes would be more effective now with the physical condition of the body. The manipulations and treatments have been effective in a manner. Now retractions set in. The action of the vibration in the body from the radium active forces gives better stabilization. We would add this, however, to the body at present (for the present leaving off the manipulation), taking internally this:

4. To ten (10) ounces of distilled water, add fifteen (15) grains of Chloride of Gold. Keep this in container with glass stopper.

5. Take five (5) ounces of distilled water, add twenty (20) grains Bicarbonate of Soda.

6. The dose of these solutions would be - to half a glass of water add Chloride of Gold solution three (3) drops. Of the Soda solution five (5) drops. Increase this one (1) drop each day, until ten (10) drops are being taken of the Gold solution and the equal for the Soda solution (in proportion, see?).

7. When this amount is reached (this would be taken - until the ten drops is taken - once each day, preferably in the evening), discard for one day.

8. Then take four (4) drops of Gold Solution three (3) times each day for ten (10) days, see? and the Soda solution in proportion - Soda and Gold, of course, are added to the half glass of water when doses are being taken.

9. We would also use those vibrations - morning and evening, for at least twenty (20) minutes - of the Violet Ray. Keep this in the home and apply self, see, just before retiring and of mornings - after the Gold has been taken, see? when this is being taken three (3) times each day. Before that period take before the body rises. Follow out the nerve ends of the cerebro-spinal system.

10. Continue to wear the Radium Appliance.

11. Do this until at least thirty (30) days treatment has been taken. Then we would give further suggestions for this body, [4859].

12. We are through with this reading.

My dear Mr. [4859]:-

Thank you very much for your writing me on August 14th. I am sorry to note that you are feeling discouraged at times, and thought it best - from the general tone of your letter - that we see what the reading would say regarding your condition at the present time. So I’m enclosing you the information as gotten this morning. I know you are right in saying you can’t expect to get well in a few days when you’ve been eighteen years getting in this shape - but I’m in hopes that you will follow out the suggestions as are given in these readings, and I verily believe that you will find you will be surprised and pleased with the results that you obtain. It is for this very reason that it has long been my desire to have an institution, that we might be better able to follow very closely - in a scientific way and manner, under the directions of competent physicians - the conditions, the improvements, and circumstances surrounding each and every individual that appeals to this source for help. Thousands, I know, have gotten results - but, to make that MANY thousands is my hope and desire.

R2. 9/4/27 Mr. [4859]‘s letter asked where to obtain the violet ray and stated: “Am not doing any good. Misery most all the while. My body troubled with priapism at night.”

R3. 9/7/27 EC’s letter to [4859]:

Dear Mr. [4859]:-

Replying to yours of the 4th, you should be able to obtain the Violet Ray from most any drug store, or any of the Ligget & Myer drug stores, or any of the United Drug Stores. I don’t know the names of any of the manufacturers except Fitzgerald Manufacturing Co., Torrington, Conn.

You will be able to obtain one from these people. I would keep up the Soda and Gold, but I’m sure you will see a great deal of difference by taking the Violet Ray treatments while you are taking the Soda and Gold. So possibly it would be well to leave the Soda and Gold off until you get the appliance - then begin it again, commencing with the smaller dose at that time.

Sorry to know that you’re not doing any good. This Violet Ray will certainly assist you in sleeping better, but I would keep up the Radium Appliance, even when you begin using the Violet Ray. Do you re-charge your Radium Pad every day by letting it lay in the strong light or sunlight for a few minutes? Examine the pad and see if there is any reaction on same from using. If the body is extra acid, or secretions from same, there will be circular spots on the pad. If these show, return the pad to the Appliance Company to be recharged. Tell them that I said for you to do this. If these spots don’t show, it’s only necessary to recharge it in the sunlight a few minutes each day.

Dear Sir:-

If you remember you gave me a reading and also suggested some treatment over a year ago. I am still in much distress and wanted to ask your opinion of the Radiumdocrinator. What you know about it and where if you know and what price can I obtain [one?] I am a great sufferer from nerve exhaustion

• miserable most of the time and so easily exhausted at any thing I go at. I am still using the Radium Pad you told me to get but don’t think it has done me any good. I also took the osteopathy you prescribed.

If you know anything about this GROUND RAY instrument please advise me and also when can obtain one. Wishing you much success, I am sincerely yours

Dear Mr. [4859]:

Replying to yours of recent date, I’m sorry to say I do not know the Radiumdocrinator. Possibly you have had some information about this. If you have any data on it, why I’ll be very glad to try and see just what we can find out about it, if you will let me know about same - but I can’t tell you where you can obtain it, or what price, as I know nothing about it. Be very glad to check up on your present physical condition and see if there may be anything offered through these sources that would be of help. Let me know what you think about it. I’d like very much to be of help if possible. I can certainly appreciate the trouble that you have had, and are having, and we would like very much to be of service.

R6. 10/15/29 [4859]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

About two years ago I wrote you about my condition - you gave me a reading and recommended osteopathy. Also a radium pad. All these I used as prescribed by you at an expense of about $150.00 I am yet in much distress. Don’t know that all this did me any good. I am much distressed and have been for nearly 20 years - am now 54 years of age - I have wondered much whether any thing could do me any good - as have failed of course on so many things. If you could tell me anything that would be worth while, would be glad to pay you. If you can see any thing for me - you can let me hear

R7. 11/1/29 EC’s letter to [4859]:

Dear Mr. [4859]:-

We have yours of the 15th. I was indeed sorry to know that your condition has not improved. I only wish it was possible for you to be closer to us, where you could take advantage of the treatments at the hospital, and where these could be followed up from week to week and GET the results. From the information we have had, there seems to to be no reason WHY you should not have gotten results, if the treatments were applied just as they were suggested in the information. We have, in the hospital, often found that where conditions were such that the manipulations or other treatments seemed to aggravate rather than help, in checking up on same found HOW and WHERE this condition arose. Would it be possible, Mr. [4859], for you to come to the hospital? or is such a thing out of the question? I know you live a long way off - know you have been at a great deal of expense, but we would like to be of help if possible. Let me hear from you, and we will try to arrange to help in SOME way, if it is possible for us to do so.

R8. 11/13/29 [4859]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

I have yours of recent date and am sorry to say that I could not come to your place for two reasons on account of expenses and also hurts me to travel, and it is such a distance. Am feeling some better than when I wrote you, but am so easily exhausted when I try to work - read or play. No more fit for pleasure than I am business. In fact had to give up business 15 years ago - and of course spent lots of money trying various things and places trying to get well. Was at Boulder, Colo. Sanitorium for 7 months in 1913 - was at Battle Creek San. in 1917 2 months - but did not get much relief.

I look as well as anybody and weigh 175# and a good appetite, but sleep so badly and troubled much with priapism at night. Feel miserable most of the time. Would like to visit you and your place, as I know medicine will do me no good - were you not so far away I would make all effort to see you. If you can suggest anything for me would be glad to receive them. It is with the utmost effort I write this.

R9. 11/19/29 EC’s letter to [4859]:

Dear Mr. [4859]:-

I have yours of the 13th. I certainly appreciate your position, and I just wish it were possible for me to offer some suggestion as to what is the very best thing for you to do. We are making an appointment to see if we can’t check up on your condition and see if we are able to find any suggestion offered that will be of help. This will be made on the morning of the 16th of December. Will you be sure to let us know just where you will be that day? or if it is the same address as we already have. We sincerely trust that we can find something.

We have had something more than a hundred treated in the hospital since it has been open. All, with very few exceptions, have gone away feeling like new people, or ALL have been greatly benefited, and of course you can well imagine we have had NO one, and HAVE no one, that all the rest of the profession hasn’t given up as hopeless. Don’t give up as yet. There must be help somewhere along the line.

The reading you are to give me on the 16th I wonder if you can see the cause of my trouble and if the teeth has anything to do with it. I have never been able to find the cause, and have had some difference of opinions about the teeth. Best wishes - am
