This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of February, 1934, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [515], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 5:00 to 5:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ill. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [515]. As we find, there are definite disturbances in the physical forces of the body that bring to the body periods of distress, uneasiness, anxiety. These, as indicated, are affectations to - not of, TO - the nervous system of the body.
-
These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [515] we are speaking of:
-
In the BLOOD SUPPLY, we find the indications of a nervous disturbance in a way and manner as to make for a very poor capillary circulation; that is, the circulation that comes to the exterior portions of the body at times becomes so diffused in its circulation or in the slowness with which it is removed from various portions, as to produce irritation that causes a great deal of itching in various portions of the body. This the more often is in the area of the lymph and its closer circulation; as under arms, across portions of the body, the arm pits, the hands, in the groin, under knees, in the feet, and the like. These are specific places or portions where these become effective to this particular distressing condition at times to the body.
-
This also makes for indication in the blood supply that there is very poor coordination between the sympathetic and the cerebro-spinal nerve system in their reaction to the body in unison. This, as we find, is indicated in how the reaction of impulses to the body is received in the sensory system. Not as merely one in the throes of neurasthenia, but rather a deeper-seated disturbance; for, as we find, in times back, for disorders that dealt with the functionings of the organs in the pelvis system or the genitive organs and those as related to characters of disturbances in the digestive system, there were strong medicines that made for the slowing up of certain characters of the elements in the system itself, as to make - in various centers along the lower portion of the cerebro-spinal system - a dis-coordination between the cerebro-spinal and the sympathetic centers, as specific in the 9th and 10th dorsal, in the 2nd and 4th lumbar areas, as well as producing in the coccyx area a swelling that has made for irritations in this portion of the system that at times becomes not only distressing to the body but produces a reaction to the brain forces from same that prevents the body from gaining its normal rest; or producing insomnia, but in quite an aggravated way and manner. Not just INABILITY to rest, but when tired out incapable of resting normally in or with the reactions as they exist.
-
This, then, in the areas indicated in the dorsal, lumbar and coccyx area, produces conditions where there is an upsetting to the assimilating system, so that foods do not taste normal; they do not digest nominally, or at times things that ordinarily agree at others upset the body entirely; causing a great deal of disturbance with low, dull headaches, inaction of the liver, incoordination between the visions in the nominal eyesight and the visions as seen in dreams or in rest periods when there is the attempt to concentrate on any given subject, producing a general reaction of a body very much distressed throughout, with the inability to locate or give exactly where the pains are the most distressing.
-
The general reaction to the ORGANS of the system, other than that indicated in the sympathetics, as to the sensory system and those particular portions of the body that show disturbance from the nerve disturbance and reactions in the body, is that all are under distress.
-
What causes the conditions? What produced the disorder? The strain on the nerve system as related to the glands in their activity from the pineal and the adrenal, that has broken the connection in those areas as indicated, from strong medicines that made for a suppression first and then a reaction next TO the portions in system that should drain normally from the body drosses that should have been eliminated in their proper way and manner. See?
-
Then, in meeting the needs, as we find, it will be necessary that - until there can be an establishment in the cerebro- spinal and sympathetic centers of a perfect coordination - quite a bit of change be made in the way and manner of applications for conditions, from those ORDINARILY for the body.
-
And in twenty-six to thirty-six days it would be necessary to, through these same channels, change entirely the reactions - that would depend upon the responses of the body to this as an outline:
-
First we would have prepared the following, for the purposes that we have given:
-
To 4 ounces of Peptotol, or a pepsin base, add:
Tincture of Valerian…1 ounce, Elixir of Calisaya…1 ounce, 10% solution Bromide of Potassium…20 minims, 10% solution Iodide of Potassium…30 minims, Tincture of Capsici…3 minims, Tincture of Stillingia…1/4 ounce, Essence of Wild Ginger…40 minims.
Shake the solution together before the dose would be taken, which would be half a teaspoonful in water or taken plain and a little water taken soon after, four times each day.
-
We would also begin (and near the same time) with the cabinet sweats or cabinet baths. Do not raise the temperature so high as to cause or produce an EXCESSIVE amount of perspiration, see - but sufficient that the body becomes THOROUGHLY moist and considerable amount of perspiration over the whole body, to ELIMINATE not only these properties that are being taken or to cause them to be carried through the skin or through the respiratory system but to relieve the poisons that have been as accumulations from the disturbing forces produced by those properties taken in the body sometime ago for the suppression of activities of organs in the system. These cabinet baths would be taken about once or twice - in the beginning we would take them twice each week, for the first two weeks, see?
-
And FOLLOWING such cabinet baths there should be a general and thorough massage of the body all over, see? ALL OVER, lasting for fifteen to twenty to thirty minutes in the massaging of the body, just a general massage and final rubdown - of course - with the oils and the rub alcohols, so as to prevent the body from taking cold when it goes out, to produce for the body those periods when rest will come the more natural.
-
We would also use, when the body retires for rest, EACH day, the Radio-Active Appliance. This, as we find, would be preferable to that which is being used to excite through the electricity from other influences or forces to coordinate. While the Radio-Active Appliance is non-electrical in its reaction, it does produce the PROPER coordination in the upper and lower portion of the circulation; thus is conducive to rest and ease. When it is attached the first time attach the first anode to the right wrist, over the pulse, see? not so tight as to stop the circulation or cause disturbances. The other anode would be attached to the left ankle, on the inside where it comes over the pulsation. The next day the first anode would be attached to the left wrist, see, and the other anode to the right ankle. This we would put on when ready to retire, or when RESTING in the afternoon, and should be kept attached for at least thirty minutes to an hour, or an hour and a half if the body falls asleep.
-
Do these.
-
Be mindful that the diet is such that it is easily assimilated, and is of the nature as to be more alkalin than acid; or this as an outline, though - to be sure - it may be altered or changed: No great amount of sweets at any time, nor any excessive amounts of starches. But as this:
-
Mornings - citrus fruit juices or stewed fruits or, occasionally but not often, dry cereals with cream. Not hot cereals, that are so much of the starch, though if Wheatena is used with milk and not too much cream it will be fairly good. There may also be included coffee, preferably that which has had the caffeine in the greater portion removed; as Kaffa Hag, or the like. There also may be had occasionally a coddled egg, but do not eat the white of same; only the yolk preferably should be taken, with browned WHOLE WHEAT toast.
-
Noons - preferably fresh green vegetables; as celery, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots and the like. Spinach and mustard may be added at times. There may also be used at times with this salad (all of the vegetables cut very fine) cabbage. There may be used the mayonnaise or oil dressings. And there may be a little milk taken, if it is so desired, or taken afterward with toast again - toast that is well browned but of the whole wheat variety.
-
Evenings - a well-balanced vegetable diet. Not a great quantity of meat at any time, and when taken preferably roast lamb or roast fish or the shell fish of any character in season are good. Roast chicken. No fried foods of any kind. Well cooked vegetables, with at least three that grow ABOVE the ground to one grown below the ground.
-
Do this, as we have given, for twenty-eight days; or the first two weeks two baths and the massages each week. In the next two weeks one each week, with the massages; taking the Radio-Active Appliance each day. If it is found to be more preferable or plausible for the body, take the Radio-Active treatment when it rests in the afternoon and also when it is ready for retiring at night.
-
Drink PLENTY of water at ALL times, and preferably - no matter where the water may be taken from - BOIL the water before it is used; then cool and add ice to same, around it rather than in it.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Are there any real results from the machine I’ve been using every night? (A) The results, yes; but not those that are of lasting beneficial results; they tend to make for a quieting at times, but the BASIC conditions must be reached before there may be effectual LASTING results; for there must be made the coordination between the nerve systems in the area that has been destroyed by the strain and by suppression in the body.
-
(Q) Should I continue using this machine? (A) We didn’t suggest it; we suggested rather that it be supplanted by the Radio-Active vibrations which are not electrical but BODY-BALANCING!
Do these, as we have outlined. We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/22/34 Letter from Dr. W. Lee Kapple to EC: ”…It was I who furnished your name to my old patient, Mrs. [515], some time ago, and I suppose it no more than natural that she has returned to me for treatment.
“As per your orders, she was given the cabinet bath this morning followed by massage for a half hour. In addition, I gave her naprapathic treatment on the 9th and 10th dorsal, 2nd and 4th lumbar and coccyx. I take it you are well informed relative to naprapathic spinal work. If you think it should not be included, kindly notify me.
“Since receiving your letter, the patient has taken a fine mental attitude in this direction which should help and I shall put forth every effort in my power to be of help to her. Anything you have to offer in my line of endeavor will always be appreciated by me…”
R2. 3/2/34 Letter from [515] to EC: ”…Have received your reading and also the supplementary letters forwarded with it and wish to thank you very much.
“Will endeavor to take the matters up as mentioned by you so that we may start out in exact accord.
“First, in your letter of the 9th, you stated the reading would be made between 3 and 4 o’clock, EST or this would be between 2 and 3 our time. The reading was actually made between 5 and 5:30 EST. It seems to me that I was up and out doors at that time. Would that make any particular difference?
“Also, in the reading no mention was made of any other condition that I have, except insomnia and its accompanying ills. For years I have had tuberculosis of the lungs and a bladder condition. Did your omission of these things in the reading mean that they were of secondary importance?
“Also, the machine I am using at present is the Terpezone machine. This is NOT electrical in the sense of affecting the body electrically. It is not attached to the body at all but is merely kept in the room when one retires and diffuses a vapor which rebuilds the blood stream through the lungs. It normalizes the red blood count and is supposed to be especially beneficial in anemia and also hay fever, tuberculosis, and other diseases affecting the lung area. I am enclosing some literature on it, because you apparently did not have this type of machine in mind at the time of giving the reading. The sponsors of the machine claim it is body balancing and body building. In my own case, however, I have so much wrong with me that the only real results I can notice from it so far are that my blood count has become exceptionally good. If you say I should return it to them, I shall; but I first wanted to be sure you had the right machine in mind. It was not sold me to produce temporary resting periods, but to rebuild the body so I would be able to rest naturally.
“Immediately upon receipt of your reading I had the prescription filled and began taking it (Feb. 21) and also began the steam baths and massage and have now had four of these. I have a naprapath (Dr. Kapple) who is exceptionally good and I believe he will give exactly the treatments you wish given.
“The Radio-Active Appliance came today from Mr. Salter and to be sure, it doesn’t look like much. However, I started using it this afternoon and shall continue to do so. The first time it produced no sensation at all except it was harder for me to relax and rest knowing those wires were attached and I had to be careful in my turning not to dislodge them. Eventually, I imagine, one could get used to them so they would not bother his rest.
“In connection with the medicine: Is this to be taken before meals or afterward? or about how close to meals?
“I hope my questions are not out of order as I sincerely want to cooperate with you, but feel that we can cooperate better if we both have a complete understanding…”
R3. 3/7/43 Letter from Dr. W. Lee Kapple to EC: ”…From all appearances the case of Mrs. [515] will be just as interesting [as Mr. [814]]. She reports sleeping much better, while she has not made any gain in weight as yet, her general appearance shows improvement without question. I am also sending you a short explanation on the question of naprapathy. There is very little virtue in chiropractic, osteopathy, and the various forms of physiotherapy that are not included in this naprapathic treatment and when used especially in connection with the general plan of physical therapeutics leaves little to be desired in so far as this treatment is concerned.
“I have read your literature and will present a copy of same to another of my patients in the near future, wishing you every success…”
R4. 4/2/34 Letter from [515] to EC: ”…You suggested that I write you again for a recheck at the end of twenty-eight or thirty days after commencing the use of the various things named in your first reading.
“The time is now up and it seems that I am in better shape, that is, stronger. I do not seem to sleep any better, but I do appear to have more energy and can accomplish more work without getting overly tired. I just feel that if I could only begin to sleep better that all my other troubles would vanish. My sleeping may be better, but it is difficult to say exactly.
“In making the next reading will you please also answer this question: Why is it that sometimes (ONLY sometimes) in having a bowel movement, blood passes in the stool. This blood is mixed in with the stool and is of mixed bright and dull color. My doctor says it would take an X ray and complete examination to fully determine the cause and I do not want to have this done unless absolutely necessary. He is not particularly worried about it inasmuch as it occurs at such irregular intervals.
“Also will you please be so kind as to look over my last letter to you with its questions, before making the recheck and that will then take care of everything…”
R5. 4/14/34 Mrs. [515] had her second Physical Rdg., see 515-2.

B1. 2/12/34 Letter from [515] to EC: ”…I appreciate your offer to allow me to ask some questions and here are some I would like you to consider at that time: 1. At present and since Oct. 3rd, I have been using a Terpezone generator every night. I can notice no real results from the use of this machine (although they may be intangible) and I want to know if I should send the machine back. I can still save a little money on it if I return it on or before April 1st. 2. Was my insomnia brought about by something I did myself, or did some of the medicine and ‘shots’ given me by doctors cause it? Will I ever be cured of it? 3. I have been ill a number of years and during that time have tried EVERYTHING I ever heard of to try and help myself. I have lived on diets, in sanitariums, taken chiropractic, osteopathy, steam baths, radionics, sun baths, changes of climate, rests in bed, etc., etc. and given each what I considered a fair trial. Now, should you prescribe some line of treatment which I have already followed without results, would I go ahead and take it anyway? 4. When giving my reading will it be possible to tell me whether or not I will ever be well? and, if so, about how long it would take? Should you feel that I will never recover, I should appreciate knowing as I am quite a sensible person and the information would benefit me in knowing how to arrange my life for the time left. It is a bit difficult for all of us to be unable to plan at all for the future.
“The above questions, I believe, cover everything except what IS the matter with me anyway?…
“Shall be ready and willing to cooperate with you in any way I can, and sincerely hope everything will turn out successfully…”
