Date: 4/20/1931 Sex: F Age: 22 ReadingID: 3842
This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 20th day of April, 1931, in accordance with request made by self - Miss [543].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Miss [543], Sarah and Lu Hesson.]
Time of Reading 3:20 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Virginia. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [543] - this we have had before. There are indications of improvements in the general conditions of the body. We would keep for the present that line, that manner of treatments as have been and are being administered for the body.
-
We WOULD add some TO those administrations in the form of the saltpetre as WAS given. This we would give now, that there may be - with these changes that are taking place - that preventative of the activities as respecting the functionings of the glands from which the disturbance or the disorder arises in the lyden [Leydig] glands, and in those [portions] of the system as related to same.
-
We would keep those of the manipulations occasionally, with those of the local applications that will prevent the irritations for the system. The manipulations should be more in the upper dorsal and in the cervical regions, LOOSENING those tautnesses as are indicated in the upper cervical and in the 1st and 2nd dorsal region.
-
Be very mindful of the diet, that the eliminations in the alimentary canal are kept FULLY active. Not as an excess, but rather as a complete elimination from the system, and when these do not function normally we would have prepared as THIS to be taken, to aid in this direction, and these will be found to COORDINATE with those things, those properties being administered. Have six to ten capsules made - this in each capsule - see?
Podophyllum…1/2 grain, Leptandrin…1 grain, Sanguinaria…1/4 grain, Senna…1/8 grain.
-
This will be found to be very active. While it may produce nausea the first time, provided there has been too much of sweets or of the fruit or vegetable salts in system, but will be found to be a most effective property for the stubborn conditions in this direction that cause much irritation. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How many light treatments should be taken each week? (A) Two to three should be sufficient. Two of the manipulations, and let these be the day before, then in between, and the day following such treatments.
-
(Q) Is diet being followed out properly? (A) As suggested, be mindful and watch the diet as concerning eliminations. Do not eat, or PERSIST in eating those things that tend to PRODUCE constipation.
-
(Q) Is body responding as it should under present medicines being taken? (A) We have given that we should keep up with these for the present, at least, ADDING those as given. Make a half a dose of the saltpetre, see? and this will be taken at least ONCE each day.
-
(Q) Should canned corn be eaten? (A) Not so well. The FRESH corn is good.
-
(Q) Should whole wheat bread be eaten? (A) Brown bread is better for the body.
-
(Q) Is body getting enough exercise? (A) Take as much exercise, not to weary the body - for the body should rest of mornings, to be sure. BEST that the body arise as soon as it awakes, then rest during the morning, see? This will be better for the body. Take as much exercise in the open air as is well for the body; that is, so it doesn’t tire it too much. Keeping the mind active, and keeping the body active in the better forces for the system.
-
(Q) How many times a week could nuts be eaten? (A) Almonds, and such, may be taken - but not the walnuts or those that carry too much of the fusel oils.
-
That is all the questions regarding this body.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 4/21/31 GD wrote asking Dr. Jas. R. Parker, M.D., to “fix up some saltpetre and balsam of tolu for Miss [543].”

Dear Miss Gladys:
The enclosed can hardly be written in Rx form on account of the way it will have to be fixed, because each one has to be mixed separately.
I think the best thing for Mr. Cayce to do is to get the tolu and the saltpetre weighed out at drug store and then mix them as indicated on other sheet.
If the reading called for the syrup or tincture of tolu, I could then write a regular Rx for it.
I trust this will be satisfactory. The balsam tolu will not dissolve in water. Water can be used instead of simple syrup if desired.
Very truly, Jas. R. Parker
Cut up 60 grains balsam tolu in one ounce alcohol and dissolve same.
Dissolve 120 grains potassium nitrate (saltpetre) in 3 ounces of water.
Mix the two solutions, and add simple syrup sufficient to make 8 ounces.
Give one teaspoonful in water 2 or 3 times a day.

R3. 4/23/31 Father [1212]‘s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, 115 West 35th Street. Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I beg to own receipt of your reading of April 20th for our daughter [543].
It is with great satisfaction we note in your reading, that in the first paragraph of your reading you state that “Indications of improvements in her general condition of the body.”
Also that you recommend the continuance of present treatment, which I assume is the medicine that Dr. Harry L. James of Chicago, Ill. has been sending to Miss Annie Cayce for [543], my wife and the writer, are delighted, at this report and recommendation from you.
When [543] was at home, in Jany., Feby. & March my wife noticed and was IMPRESSED with the fact, that the saltpetre was DETRIMENTAL to her, we should have advised you of this before, however from the fact it was detrimental, we will request that you will not add this to the medicine she is now taking, in fact we desire [543] to only take the medicine from Dr. James, as his treatment, in a case practically identical of [543]‘s was ENTIRELY cured by Dr. James treatment.
As to the capsules that you refer to, we will also ask that for the present that they do not be given, for the same reason, that is we want to try out thoroughly Dr. James treatment, I do not know, but am sure that his treatment contains medicine to correct constipation, and would suppose that dosage should be increased, that is when necessary to correct constipation.
It would be impossible for us to express by words, how we do appreciate the interest that you and Miss Cayce have taken in [543], & we love each of you, for your manifestations, and continued interests in her, I hope that you will carry out our wishes as above outlined, but DO NOT ADVISE [543] of this letter, while awaiting your valued reply, I am with highest personal regards,
Sincerely, [1212]
I beg to enclose you check for reading of April 20th.
R4. 4/29/31 EC’s letter: At your suggestion, rather than what we feel is really for the best interest of Miss [543], we will follow the line of treatment that has been outlined by Dr. James. I certainly hope this will prove to be the very thing, and all that is necessary for a full and complete recovery.
R5. 6/13/31 Father’s ltr.: “[543] writes us that you will give her a rdg. next Mon. - she wants to know if we desire any change in her medicine. My wife is writing her she does not want her to make any change… Dr. James wrote us 6/11th he made some change in her medicine and he was very hopeful that the results from the medicine she is now taking, all her attacks will be kept completely under control… Dr. James has made some wonderful cures, therefore kindly have Miss Cayce use only such medicines as Dr. James sends for her.”
