This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 15th day of May, 1934, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [551], New Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by David E. Kahn.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
In a friend’s Time of Reading office at 120 3:40 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. B’way, Room … New York City. (… St., Brooklyn, N.Y.) (Body & enquiring mind, who seeks information, advice & guidance as to his physical, mental & material welfare. Questions.)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [551], the enquiring mind; this we have had before.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What is my physical condition? (A) There are those reactions from weaknesses that have been indicated in the body heretofore. Under mental stress and physical strain, the muco-membranes of the head and the throat show reactions that have not been well. This produces also a metabolism that is not in proper accord with the eliminations in such disorders, as to at times make recurrent actions in the headaches, the stiffness in body-joints, and a general debilitation.
As we find, there should be precautions taken as to the physical activity sufficient in the open to cause a full external or superficial circulation in the extremities, as well as torso. This may be done by the regular setting-up exercises mornings and evenings.
Also we would take internally those properties that will cause a stimulation to the glands of the body; that is, Atomidine taken three drops twice each day for three days, four drops twice each day for three days, five drops twice each day for three days. Then leave it off for five days, and begin over again.
Keep up the eliminations; not by the use of cathartics or laxatives, but by the manner of the diet that tends to make for more roughage and more activity in an alkalin nature.
And we will find that the body will respond.
- (Q) How is my mental condition, and how can it be improved? (A) The mental condition is in that state where a great deal of the temperamental and the nervous reactions are allowed by the self dwelling upon immediate surroundings. If the body will train or MAKE self, as it were, by sheer will force, to see conditions rather as the whole than as individual case or condition, there will be a much better reaction to the whole mental outlook.
Know that the circumstances or conditions through which the body may pass are or can be used by the body as a stepping-stone for the bettered conditions. For, there should be rather the attitude that, “If I myself keep my mind upon those things that have to deal with the spiritual aspects of a physical life, that find their expression in the reaction of individuals to individuals, then the growth of same is in the attitude I hold to my associations in each activity.”
Be rather of the optimistic outlook, for there you may find that the growth of self is in keeping with how that expenditure of self is made in such directions.
Not to that of extravagance in ANY thought or activity; but that which is in keeping with those things that have oft been given; if ye would have friends, make self friendly with all thou mayest meet in EVERY WALK of life.
If thou wouldst have shown forth to thee that of brotherly love, then show same to thy friend, thy neighbor, thine enemy, thine stranger, that ye meet day by day.
Such will make for growth, for the attraction of the proper relationships in the experiences and affairs of ANY individual.
- (Q) What is my present, and from this writing on, financial condition - in contacting for a job - or perhaps clients for whom I may trade for their account on a percentage basis? (A) If the activity will be kept in much of that which has been outlined, there will come - as the natural consequence, the natural growth - such associations in the experience.
Be not backward in presenting thyself in company and in keeping of those that thou knowest that deal in such relationships. For, as may be said, the time, the place, the activity follows those that prepare themselves - or that put themselves in the way of meeting such.
But rather make this of the nature that will be only a temporary association for the meeting of the immediate and current needs of the body and its associations.
And follow that lead which has been set for an agent or representative of manufactured jewelry or silverware on the road. This, as we find, should develop for the body in the coming or current season - which, as we find, should begin by the middle or latter portion of the coming July.
- (Q) If I am to continue in Wall Street as a trader, what are the prospects there for me, if any? (A) As given, these associations should be followed in the manner as indicated, for the period only that may make for the taking care of current obligations and those that have been incurred by the body.
But act, deal, talk in such a manner as to be in keeping with those things that have been outlined.
As we find, if these things will be followed by the body for the physical condition - that may be physically and mentally applied in the experience in the social, in the commercial, in the mental, in the physical affairs of the body, with that purpose, that aim, that desire to meet the things in a square and sensible manner that bespeaks of the gentleman at heart and not for purpose only - we will find conditions, associations, relations in every phase of the experience will adjust themselves.
Make the self content, when the self knows that the activities in thought, word and act are in keeping with those laws that make for the experiencing of such in this present condition.
And we will find that which should come, that which will be the most helpful, that which will be the most far-reaching, will be in the self’s experience; not unto self-indulgences, not unto self-glorification, but that the purpose may be fulfilled and that the God thou worshipeth in thine own experience may be glorified in those things thou doest day by day.
For, the earth is the Lord’s and the fulness thereof. Those that conduct their lives, their experiences with their fellow man in such a way and manner as to not only manifest but to attract those attributes of the spirit, that the fruits thereof may be such as we have iterated, may find the same in their experience. So with self, that which may come to pass in thine experience will be for the glory of Him.
Debase self and selfish purposes that the GLORY of Him may be made manifest in thine life! Be called foolish, be called profane, but know that thou thinkest, that thou sayest, that thou doest, is in keeping with that He would have thee do. And though the heavens may change, though the earth may falter, He careth for those that love Him. His promises are sure. Claimest thou these? Then, live and act in that way and manner.
- We are through.

R1. 6/3/34 [551]‘s letter to EC:
My dear Mr. Cayce:
I am enclosing herewith ballot election for Trustees - as I was requested to vote for 15 members, nevertheless, my urge was to vote for every one of them.
As for my reading May 15th ‘34, in answer #3 [551-13, Par. 5-A.] i.e., “And follow that lead which has been set for an agent or representative of manufactured jewelry or silverware on the road. This we find, should develop for the body in the coming or current season…which, as we find, should begin by the middle or latter portion of the coming July.”
Relative to the above answer to my original question #3 [Par. 5-Q] - that possible position was in the offing for some time in August - however, I question my friend, the owner of this Silverware concern two weeks ago as to my prospects on going on the road for him, he replied (although in a vague way) - for me to start perhaps in the middle of July in or about Greater N.Y. City territory - and then after 3 or 4 weeks of training and learning the line of silverware (and bronze ware since added to diversify his line to perhaps increase the volume of sales) take up, and that I may cover the New England states. Thereafter, and be home in Brooklyn for my week-ends.
There was a definite demonstration in that answer in my Reading in #3 Question [Par. 5-Q.].
I consider this at present, the paramount one concerning my welfare as well as to my mother, and fellow man. This job means such earnings that will enable me to give to my mother such aid to help better her, and ease her ill-condition. I am heavily in debt to the tune of over $3000.00 which I feel must be paid off. I see no other way at this writing, where I could earn such money in order to do that.
After losing my home, and even penniless at this writing, I am so concerned about my economic condition. For after I am able to solve that problem immediately, all other interests I believe could be easily handled with greater ambition. And so, any further advice would be appreciated.
I have tried to locate Dr. S. A. Bisey in N.Y. City - but have not been able to do so. Perhaps you can send me his address in N.Y. City. I would very much like to see him and buy the Atomidine in order to follow instructions of the reading, in using same…
P.S. Re reading answer #3 [Par. 5-A] - if I do work the New England territory, will I be successful there? Please let me hear from you soon, [551]
R2. 8/29/34 [551]‘s letter:
My dear Mr. Cayce:
It is now quite gratifying to inform you that at last I have a position. This past week has been my first pay envelope in more than 14 months. Received $17.50 per week as drawing account against commission. Am working for the Dodge Bros. in N.Y.C. trying to sell their passenger and Commercial Trucks. To date have sold a Comm. Truck which has been quite encouraging. Meanwhile I am trying my best to contact Dr. Jurist’s [Dr. Benj. Jurist, chemist] proposition for a greater opportunity. With the amount of commission credited and with business as it is, there is little opportunity for any big money compared to what I have been able to earn in Wall St., however, I am thankful this chance, just the same. As you already know what I have been through, I now must try to get out of heavy debt - and at the rate of present earnings it shall be some task to try to accomplish.
As soon as I am able to afford to get the medicine Atomidine] from Dr. Bisey I shall do so. Meanwhile, I shall keep you posted of my progress. With kindest regard to all of you,
Most Sincerely Yours, [551]
R3. Easter 1936 he sent EC a greeting card.
R4. 7/29/36 [551]‘s letter: “I have had tough sledding these past few years… It seems that I am reincarnating Job’s lot before I am delivered into a happier and a more abundant life. And so, am carrying on, sustaining through sheer will and hope with a faith that I believe stands challenged, by that I mean, I let God do the worrying for me.”
R5. 12/1/39 See 2052-1 in which Mr. [2052] asked about his business ass’n with Mr. [551] in international trade export-import business.
R6. 8/15/53 [551]‘s letter to HLC:
Hugh Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
My dear Hughie: This week I read a very interesting story about your Dad, “The Man who made Miracles” by Michael Bakalar in the Sept. 1953 Issue on Page 80 in Pageant Magazine. I hope that you get this.
Then my mind carried me back to the Christmas week of 1928 when I visited you folks in Virginia Beach. There meeting with your wonderful parents, your little brother Acken (I presume a big man now) whose desire was to have a Cherry Pie for Christmas, which I had ordered for him at the Cavalier Hotel. And the happy times we all had with Dr. House, his son Tommy and Miss Davis.
Since then the River of Life has flowed on changing many things in our lives.
Some time back I had occasions to hear you on the radio broadcasts and I hope that you are carrying on the wonderful work that your Dear Father dwelt on.
From time to time I run into [257].
Meanwhile, I shall appreciate, if it is possible for you to send me a copy of my “Life Reading” [551-3] which your Dad has interpreted in 1925. The original which I had was lost, and I could not get a professional and accurate Astrological Reader and Interpreter to plot and progress the interpretations in this reading. I am now fortunate in meeting with and have the friendship of such an Expert. I believe that if you will cooperate and send me this copy, I shall prevail upon my friend to progress these forecasts and give the accurate interpretations - although 28 years have passed - even that time is minute in the Grand Scheme of Life.
Should I be able to get this help, I shall then propose to my friend of your Father’s work and your Institute’s endeavors and acquaint him with the overall work, whereby he can fit into the overall project, with his special talents.
I shall now close with a prayer and hopes that you and all our friends the best of everything.
I remain, Ever Faithful, [551]
P.S. Please let me hear from you soon.
Should my affairs in business work out well, I shall then make plans of a trip to Va., and renew old acquaintances and for some interchange of ideas and aspirations.
R7. 8/19/53 GD’s note: We sent him a copy of his Life Rdg., 551-3, with a bill for $2, and current data about the A.R.E.
R8. 8/1/56 We sent him another bill for the $2.
R9. 8/58 Routine mailing was ret’d marked ADDRESS UNKNOWN.

B2. 5/4/31 “I have phoned this a.m. [257] and inquired about you… Since Aug. of last year, when I had a nervous breakdown, I have had tough sledding. Lost my home and everything - temporarily living with my sister and can’t make a go at making a living. Looking for some job that will pay for room and board and a little over to try to clear my debts, and big ones at that… All my business career in Wall St. has been smashed to the wall and it now seems that my efforts have been in vain. I do know, however, that there is a place for me somewhere I can apply myself and succeed, earn money, rebuild my home, take care of my dear mother [4307] who is very ill. To me, that is my main ambition now
- so you see that my plea is genuine.”
