This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of May, 1929, in accordance with request made by his mother, Mrs. [4280].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:45 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ga. (Check Physical Suggestion)

EC: Yes, we have the body, [5520]. These conditions as have arisen are from the effects of poisons as created in the system from impure foods, or the lack of freshness in same as much as there should have been. Where the body has been so over cared for as to prevent any reaction of any character of bacilli in the food, when such does occur in over-abundance makes it VERY effective to the conditions as are meted in the system from same.
-
We would use for these conditions those of the cold cloths across the pit of stomach, with equal parts of Cinnamon and Limewater, until the stomach is settled somewhat.
-
Then begin with small quantities of Saffron Water or tea, alternated with that of the elm water.
-
Let the diet be, then, principally those of pre-digested - milks or cereals, until the temperature and the conditions through system are eliminated.
-
Enemas - cool enemas - will assist in reducing temperature, as will also the gentle massage of the body, using rub alcohol in same. Do that. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) He was exposed to measles sixteen days ago. Is he taking measles? (A) We do not see it as yet, though the condition of the stomach and of the general system would be inductive to such conditions.
-
(Q) Did a fall hurt him internally? (A) Rather those conditions as we have outlined here, from poisons as have been taken through body, or amount of bacillus as was taken into the system.
-
That is all the questions.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/10/29 Mother [4280]‘s letter: ”…I received your last reading for [5520] and he was gaining on the raw milk and doing nicely until two weeks ago. He was taken suddenly ill with dysentery and was very sick for ten days. He is better now and getting hungry after a long fast. We want you to please give us another reading and help us to get the right things for him to eat now. Please see just what caused his illness. Was it the raw milk or the raw tomato juice or the raw carrot juice? Please see just how long he should wait before eating the raw tomato juice? and the raw carrot juice again? Was it the tomato or carrot juice which made him sick? He begs for baked Irish potato, breakfast bacon, and whole wheat bread. Can he have these now? He was eating these before he got sick.
“The baby specialist I had to have with him said he ought to be taking whole milk boiled 3 to 5 minutes. Please see if he can digest the whole goat’s milk, or should it be diluted any? If so, please name how many ounces of water to 8 ounces of milk? Would cow’s milk agree with him? If so, how much cream should be removed and how diluted? I am so anxious to know if he can digest and build up on whole milk. Please tell me. I know what you say will be correct for him. Do eggs cooked or raw agree with him? He should be eating three a week but they have always seemed to cause him to spit up his food. Should his oatmeal and brown rice be put through sieve? How soon can he eat these husk and all? Can he eat Wheatena and Ralston food now? Left them off six weeks ago when vomiting. How soon can he have spinach, beans, and other vegetables? Should he have very ripe bananas? He is getting under-nourished right now and I want you to tell me what foods will be best to build him up. Should he be forced to eat orange juice? He has refused it the past six weeks! Does he need it now? Would sweet potato help him, or can he digest it? Should he go barefooted in the sand or on the ground? Is there any hook-worm in the sand in …, or any parts of Georgia, Florida, or Tenn.? Some doctors say so and that children should not go bare-footed, while others say that it is the best thing for a child to walk bare-footed on the ground. Please tell me. Should [5520] take daily sun baths? Will the sun’s rays between 10:00 and 4:00 make babies sick? Do figs raw or cooked agree with him? Dr. Layne wants to know if [5520] has any trouble in the duodenum or bowels or colon. If any inflammation in the bladder or kidneys? Please describe just what treatment he needs now. Please write me just as soon as you can, as I need it so badly. Hope to soon be able to do something for you, before the summer is over…”
R2. 7/17/29 EC’s letter to [5520]‘s mother, Mrs. [4280]: “Yours of the 10th received. I would like very much to be of help and assistance if possible, but just at this time our appointments are such that it will be impossible for us to get this in before the 15th of August. I know this is a long time to wait. Should conditions arise that would make it imperative to have the information, we would try to arrange to get it in sooner if at all possible, but our requests coming so fast it is absolutely necessary to take them as we receive them. Let me know whether this time will be satisfactory, and should there be questions you would like to have asked, other than these in your letter of the 10th, please make note of them and return with the appointment slip.
“Certainly trust the baby will get along alright. With kindest personal regards from all, Sincerely…”
R3. 9/6/29 EC’s letter to [5520]‘s mother, Mrs. [4280]: “Replying to yours of the 30th [no record of this letter], I regret very much that we have been unable to get the information asked for regarding your little boy - but, as you can readily imagine, it is necessary that we give first consideration to those individuals who are in our own institution attempting to gain aid through its offices. These have grown to such proportions that it is an exception, rather than a rule, that we are able to advise for those outside. I assure you we will get to this as soon as possible, but at the present time our appointments are running well up into January of next year. However, if it is possible for us to get this in at any time, I will certainly try to do so. I appreciate your faith and hope in what we are trying to do, but I am only one individual, and I can’t throw these every hour in the day. I am only able, if I keep continually going, to give two - or three at the outside - in any one day.
“Hoping the baby is on the improve, and asking to be remembered very kindly to your folks, and Dr. and Mrs. Layne, I am, Sincerely…”
R4. 4/10/31 Mr. [4283]‘s letter ([5520]‘s father): “We haven’t written you for some time. We have been getting along very nicely for past two years. Now am anxious to have you answer a few questions about my wife, [4280], [5520]‘s mother.”
R5. 9/11/43 Father, [4283]‘s letter: “Our son, [5520] is 16 years old and going through the adolescent stage, as you know, and is a large boy, and has a good many pimples on his face and shoulders and some pretty tough boils. Hasn’t had the boils, though, for some time. Little nervous type and has just a little low blood pressure. Would this condition hurt if he played football?
“Since we have heard from you, Dr. [Al C.] Layne has passed away - about four years ago.” [He also asked for a business reading regarding his wife, [4280]‘s possible inheritance.]
R6. 9/18/43 EC’s letter to Mr. [4283], [5520]‘s father: “It was indeed a real surprise and pleasure to have yours of the 11th. I am certainly very glad to hear from you again. I would like to know how each one are. You know I have always felt very close to you people whether we heard from you or not.
“I am sorry to hear of Dr. Lane’s [Layne’s] death, but I am sure he lived until a good old age and had a very useful life and I hope that I may have been of a little help somewhere along the way.
“Have you seen the copy of the book that has been written about the work ‘There Is A River’ by Thomas Sugrue? We are sending you a notice of it along with data, as you will see that now it is necessary for each one to become a member of the Association before we can make an appointment. This is to comply with the law under which we are working. There was an article in the Sept. issue of Coronet, also. I am sorry to have to tell you that we are about a year in advance with appointments at this time, but we will be very glad to hear from you again and to number you among the Active or Associate members.
“Thanking you for your letter and asking to be remembered to each one there. I am,” Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
