This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 20th day of June, 1935, in accordance with request made by the wife, Mrs. [2470], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:30 to 3:45 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Va. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [556]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, conditions are rather serious with this body. While much of those things that have been indicated heretofore are involved in the condition, there is a closing - as it were - in the area of the emptying of the stomach in the duodenum. And this causes those portions where these is some bloating or swelling; great pains through the abdominal area, through even the face and those portions where the connections are with same.
-
The applications that would make for the greater improvement in the present, as we find, would be:
-
Paint the affected portions with a solution made of three parts Laudanum to one part Aconite. Then apply Epsom Salts Packs.
-
After the Epsom Salts Packs we would then apply the Castor Oil Packs, to relieve the tendencies for the body to cohere where inflammations are seen.
-
This would be the whole area, then, across the right side, a portion of the liver, a portion of the gall duct and the lacteal ducts.
-
These, as we find, would make for the better conditions.
-
We would have the Yellow Saffron tea taken as a drink, cold. Use about a level teaspoonful of the Saffron (the American Saffron is alright) to a pint of water. Let this steep just as tea would. Then cool and drink about half a glass of same two to three times a day.
-
Take as much of the Olive Oil as the body will assimilate; beginning with small quantities often and gradually taking more as the body can assimilate it.
-
Let the diet consist of the fruit juices, fresh fruit, beef juice; and such natures that are STRENGTHENING will make for the bettered conditions of the body.
-
At times when the lower limbs give trouble, and there is aching through the lower portion of the back, it would be well to warm same (although it is already warm) by the oil rubs; or by rubbing with a combination of equal parts Mutton Tallow, Turpentine, Spirits of Camphor and Compound Tincture of Benzoin. This combination rubbed into the bottoms of the feet also would be well. It will alter or change the circulation.
-
Doing these, as we find, would be the better conditions in the present; though, unless there is a response, we may expect some very serious conditions to arise.
-
We would follow these for about two to three days; then we would give further instructions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How often should the body be painted with the Laudanum-Aconite solution, followed by the Epsom Salts Packs? (A) Whenever the pain is very severe; even though it may be two or three times a day in the beginning.
-
(Q) How often should the Castor Oil Packs be applied? (A) These should be applied after each of the openings of the pores by the application of the Epsom Salts Packs, and let them remain each time until cooled - or cold. Afterwards it would be well to cleanse the body (from the oil packs) with soda water; then to rub the body with the same solution as given above for the feet (Mutton Tallow, etc.).
-
(Q) What is the central point of infection? (A) As has been indicated.
-
(Q) What is the condition of his blood? (A) Very heavy with the lack of proper eliminations, and natural infectious forces that arise from poison accumulations in the system.
-
(Q) Should any stimulant be given at any time? (A) ANY stimulant that will make for a better heart activity is helpful to the body; but that which carries the blood away from as well as to same. That’s why we would give the Saffron tea, which makes for alleviating of the conditions in the duodenum and stomach proper, as well as being a mild stimulant for the circulatory forces.
-
(Q) Any further suggestions? (A) Do these as given for the present. Then in two or three days, when the body has responded, we would change or alter to those things then necessary.
-
We are through for the present.

Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
My dear Mr. Cayce:
It gives me great pleasure to speak of the wonderful recovery Mr. [556] made, being treated entirely through your Readings over a period of about 4 months.
When he was taken so very ill in June ‘35 the doctors could not agree as to the source of infection. I ‘phoned you for a reading. I gave you no information as to the malady, and asked you but one question, namely: Please give me the source of infection, and course of treatment to pursue. In about 2 hours your sec’y ‘phoned me, answering my question. Apparently the trouble was centered in the frontal and such an operation had been advised. The reading stated: We find the source of infection to be in the duodenum, the passage being entirely closed, and This will cause swelling in the face and perhaps other parts of the body, which was true. We find the body in a serious condition. Lengthy details were given as to course of treatment, all of which I followed to the letter, calling for additional advice from time to time, and following each of them closely. He had lost weight very fast, and by October had gained back all of it. By Nov. he was restored to normal health.
Words fail me to express to you, and to the world, the wonderful merits of the information that comes through the Readings. Scientifically speaking, a condition of this kind is seldom overcome without an operation, and then taking a patient from 12 to 18 months to recover therefrom.
I consider each Reading a masterpiece and could come from no other source, except the mind that is God.
Aside from this, almost, miraculous recover, a food was given that we have passed on to scores of friends, who are reaping great benefit from its use.
Yours in Christian love, Mrs. [2470]

R7. 3/27/37 Dr. Carl S. Frischkorn’s reply to Questionnaire:
(1) Did the Reading presented to you describe the condition of the patient? (A) Yes. I confirmed it with the ‘Pathodast Blood Testing’ instrument.
(2) Were the suggestions for your treatment in your opinion proper for this condition? (A) Yes.
(3) For what period of time has the patient followed direc- tions given in the Reading under your care? (A) The full time.
(4) What results have you observed? (A) Excellent.
(5) Comment. (A) The specific infections was streptococci, colisepsis, acidosis and general anemia.

R8. 6/28/37 Wife [2470]‘s report to be read at A.R.E. 6th Annual Congress:
Norfolk, Va.
In June of 1935, Mr. [556] was taken, violently ill. He went for a walk, in the evening and was brought home by a friend. He was suffering severe pain in the head, and vomited quantities of blood. The next day, I called an Osteopath and a physician to try to determine the cause of the condition. The physician believed it was either a sinus or perhaps an abscessed tooth, and advised consulting his dentist. I ‘phoned our dentist and he came, and stated the condition was not from his teeth. By this time, he was suffering excruciating pain, and his head and face were swelling. The dentist advised my calling a Specialist. Mr. [556] protested against such a procedure, and begged on me to allow no one to touch his head or mouth. I sat a moment in deliberation, and I thought “What shall I do?”, it was then, Mr. Cayce came to my mind. I called on the ‘phone, and Miss Gladys answered. I said, “Mr. [556] is seriously ill, ask Mr. Cayce if he will give a Reading. I want to know one thing, Where is the source of infection.” I gave no description of his condition, nor any of the symptoms. I asked only the question, “Where is the center of infection?” This question was prompted, by the established fact, the doctors did not know what was causing the illness. Miss Davis said, “I will call you back in a couple of hours”, which she did. She answered by saying, “We find the center of the infection is in the duodenum the passage being entirely closed, and this condition may cause swelling of the forehead and face, and if you will look you will find a swelling in the side at the location of the duodenum,” which I did find. The first Reading described, in detail, location of pain and cause of same, setting forth the fact that the condition was serious, and to follow directions explicitly and prayerfully, and to come in, at a stipulated time for further instructions, and as I recall there was a medicine to be given, or something to be done every 15 minutes day and night for a period of two days and nights. The weather was, extremely, hot, and Hot - Packs, were to be applied every 2 hours, with a rest of 2 hours, day and night. Many medicines were to be gotten and compounded, all of which I did myself, with the aid of friends whom I believed understood the treatment, to remain with him during my brief absences. All solid food was eliminated for a period of between 14 and 21 days. As I recall, it seems, the period of drastic treatment lasted about 7 weeks. During which time I kept constant and prayerful vigil over him. The services of 2 trained nurses were at our disposal, but I feared they did not understand the source of information, and preferred to perform this duty myself, acknowledging, also, the kind assistance of friends who were in the study of Research & Enlightenment.
The second Reading stated, that very slight change for recovery was noted, and urged, still, the careful following of all instructions. I seem to recall that the 3rd Reading spoke of decided improvement, and I am sure at this time, we had noted great improvement. This, I think, was a period of about 2 weeks. Osteopathic treatment were, also, prescribed, and directions for the Osteopath were given, and followed by him, in detail. I think during the course of the treatment, 11 Readings were given, covering a period of 3 successive months, and including 2 or 3 to check up over this 2-year period.
At this writing, just about 2 years have expired, and I believe, I can safely say, Mr. [556] is, his normal self, and I am very sure, he would not be living today had it not have been for the information given in the Readings, through the prompt and consistent assistance of Mr. Cayce, and his family, plus the prayers of the Glad Helpers, and others who know the value of prayer, along with the treatment of disease. Thus the inscription is written over the White Cross Hospital, in London - “The surgeon wields the knife - God heals the wound.” Nothing can be accomplished in this world, nor in the world to come without the aid of prayer. It gives both, Prof. [556] and myself great joy to give this testimony in behalf of Mr. Cayce, and his work, and we pray God’s blessings, ever, be upon him.
Sincerely, Mrs. [2470]
R9. 10/4/50 Letter to GD from A.R.E. member, C. Donald Lee:
“In August, I met a Dr. Slade Wyatt Phillips, who practices naturopathy in Dillon, South Carolina. He told me he was once practicing in the Norfolk area and that one day a patient, suffering from a very bad sinus infection asked him to follow a Reading that was given by a man named Cayce from Virginia Beach. He said the infection was very bad and that it was draining through the outside. He had no objection to following the Reading, and a cure was effected.
“He stated that, ‘Mr. Cayce definitely had a gift.’
“I’m planning to visit him soon and see if he can help my hip and leg. I left a copy of TIR with him and he invited me to come spend the week-end with him.
“There was company present and we did not talk much. On the wall of his office, there is a little plaque which states, ‘Dear Lord, please teach me when to keep my big mouth shut.’
“Do you remember him?”
R10. GD’s note: Dr. Phillips was probably an assistant of Dr. Carl S. Frishkorn at the time Mr. [556] went to him for treatment.
