This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of July, 1935, in accordance with request made by the wife - Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:45 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Virginia. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: (“Something wrong with that number!”) [GD’s note: Same St. # at which 556-5 through 556-8 had been given.]
-
Yes. We have the impressions here, [556].
-
The continued weakness which indicates the reinfectious forces should be overcome more by drainages set up through the manipulations, as we have indicated, rather than the attempt of the electrical vibrations. For these stimulations by the movement of segments, where there is the tendency for congestion in centers along the cerebrospinal system, are more effective than a vibration from electrical or electronic forces. These we would do.
-
As the body does show the ability of assimilation, without too great a recurrence of temperature and distress through the alimentary canal or stomach itself - or of gas forming, we would gradually increase the character as well as quantity of the food values. These have been changed at times to those not as helpful, while at others they were not so harmful.
-
Use coddled egg, a little very crisp bacon, and those things of a pre-digested or semi-pre-digested nature; foods that are more and more body-building. But take these in very small quantities in the beginning; otherwise we may produce the recurrence of infectious forces - unless these drainages are set up.
-
Keep the eliminations through the alimentary canal by the enemas occasionally; not so much that the mucous membranes of the intestines are strained but keep the antiseptics with same, and we will find these will assist in the assimilations and eliminations without causing too great a distress.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) The place over the eye seems to be healing, but is still sore and swollen. Should it be allowed to heal up at this time? (A) We would keep the Iodex and Ash ointment on same.
-
(Q) As it seems impossible to secure more Animated Ash - (A) (Interrupting) It may be obtained by writing or wiring to those who manufacture same.
-
(Q) What should be used as a stimulant? (A) Eggnog is vary good, if not too raw or not too high in the alcohol content.
-
(Q) Please give directions as to how to prepare his tea. What should be added to it? (A) Added as it has been given. Make it as it has been given to!
-
(Q) Are the adjustments being given properly? (A) As we have indicated, use more of a gentle movement than vibrations, see?
-
(Q) How often should they be given and how long continued? (A) So long as it is necessary to keep the normal balance for proper drainage and elimination, and to prevent the settling of congestion in any portion of the body such as to cause excess temperature.
How often? This will depend, to be sure, upon the RESPONSES of the body and how WELL these treatments are applied at each time. How long kept up?
As long as necessary to keep this down; which should be indicated by the response of the body - and may be seen by the manipulator or adjuster.
-
(Q) Any other advice? (A) This we would do, as indicated. Go gently with the changes in the diet; not too fast, but be mindful that what is taken is well assimilated.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/17/35 Wife [2470]‘s letter:
Dear Gladys:-
For days I have hoped to get this note off to you, but since Mr. [556] has been able to be on his feet, I have been off mine, so to speak, not ill, but sheerly exhausted. Today, however, I feel more myself. Last Friday I just fell out on account of the heat and lack of sleep. I have caught up all the sleep now.
I am inclosing $1. this I hope to reimburse for the postage on the reading, etc. I am sorry that I do not have something to send on the Reading proper. I do not know that I can just say what I wish to in a letter. I was hoping you folks would come by here when you were over to the Edmonds last Tuesday. You cannot possibly get to the Edmonds without going by here, or at least within a block of here. When you come onto Granby St, or at least where Church and Monticello parallels Granby, and there is an Esso gas station, that is 32d St., and you can go straight thru 32d to Colonial or Newport. It is a straight cut. I hope soon to be able to pay, at least a part on the Readings. As I say there is so much I want to say. I went thru mental torture during the time Mr. [556] was so ill, and for days it seemed he could not live, and Dr. Frischcorn told me, this week, that his blood test showed that the pus was rapidly eating up the blood, and he could see no hope, and he said I will sure hand it all, EVERYTHING to Mr. Cayce. I said Dr. F- where do you think this information comes from, or how etc. He says, frankly I do not know. All this I will tell you later. I want to say right here, that Dr. F- has been wonderful. He has always been so interested in doing just as the reading stated, and says he will stay on until Mr. [556] is entirely well, that he would do anything within his power to help restore him to health again, that he might be the useful man and inspiration that he has been in the past. What I started to say while I was fighting, to keep his life, as it were, I was having to fight an army of Orthodox friends who thought I would let him die, fooling as they said, with “that mess” they insisted on sending him to a hospital footing all bills, special nurse, and all. I said, well, my dear ones, I appreciate entirely the spirit you have. I am not offended, but what you call “mess” to me, is the only, stark reality, the only sure hope of life to me, and with my lack of faith in what you want to do would surely cost his life, and on the other hands, 4 doctors have already expressed varied opinions, and want to pull his teeth. I had his dentist come, and he said it was not his teeth. The readings were followed to the moment under my own supervision day and night, with the exception of the Animated Ash. I can get no reply, and I ‘phoned Mr. Snyder, and he said he had written twice in the past week.
I am a bit concerned, at this writing on account of this.
There is a continued swelling under and above the eye, and a spot a round spot about half the diameter of a tea-cup over the eye stays red, showing of course inflammation. There is no drainage of pus now at all so it looks like when we cannot get the ash, that there would or might be something else to use. I am afraid to use the Iodex alone. Also he has swollen patches under eyes, and his hands swell. I would like to know about this. Otherwise he seems to be improving surely but slowly. It is my desire to follow as closely as possible, until they say he is normal that is, if he can be restored to normal. We are still continuing all the treatments, as he seems to be unable to do without them. I am faced just now with the task of earning a living and taking care of him too. It is essential that I will have to do this until he is well again, as I am sure that is why he did not get right from last summer. He lost a good position last year, and also one this summer on account of his health, so I am fully determined to find my place back in the business world, and try to keep the ship afloat, and little him take it easy, that is out of this terrible strain, and give him a chance. It is dreadfully hard to keep him quiet. I just long for some quiet place, or retreat I could send him to rest entirely.
It seemed we were just staggering, not standing on our feet, after we moved here, when all of a sudden, not suddenly either, it came on gradual. The director of Music at the National Cathedral at Washington passed-on in April, and they sent for Mr. [556] to come over for an interview, and he was scarcely able to make the trip over there and back, and he kept going back all the while, and he was making such a fight, for that position seemed to offer all we needed or desired again [See 556-1], but alas! then I took 3 boarders, and was earning just a little in another venture of my own, and when Mr. [556] was so ill so long, I had to send them away. There is one bright spot, Gladys, this is such a sweet place to live, and I pray I can stay here. The abundance of light and sunshine has been a great source of inspiration. When the hour seemed longest and darkest there was always coming thru some window, God’s wonderful sun or light, which seemed to give me courage to try to go on and on and on.
I do wish to tell you this. So many times in meditation, I have felt so grateful, so joyous over having the help thru the readings and if you can understand, I wished to express it in some way, hence I wrote the statement, that I gave you on the ‘phone. I was very quiet thinking, and asking deep in my heart what I could do or say to express my innermost desire, and I was told this, rather seek in a forgiving spirit, and a spirit of love to those who oppose thy doings, and still the desire remained, and then they said, well we would say further, Read the 33d Psalm, read and heed. You see I had been almost bitter to some of my friends, for I am only human myself, and when I was seemingly so crushed they would condemn what I was trying to do, and refused even to come, and never did come, and they are some of our great leaders in the church. Oh sometimes, I really want to fight. I haven’t a grain of use for Orthodoxy or even want to sit and listen to a sermon, well I really won’t do it.
Until I see you folks, the rest will have to be silent In His Name and for His great Love. I am ever yours
Mrs. [2470]
There has surely been a lot of folks watching Mr. [556] case. Many who have condemned the work to me heretofore, are saying well if Mr. [556] gets well, I will have to start thinking this over, etc. Of course with us nor with you folks, we have not been trying to convince anyone of anything, but we are certainly glad that they are having cause to sit back and take notice.
Several are talking of having readings. One friend Mr. [556] wishes to bring down for a reading as soon as he is well enough. Quite a few are interested, and I wholly trust they will carry out their expressed desires into action. I will do all within me by God’s leading to help them do so.
