This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of January, 1927, in accordance with request made by Mr. [4906].

Time of Reading 3:20 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. San Saba, Texas.

1. GC: You will have before you [4906] of San Saba, San Saba County, Texas, and the well being drilled on what is known as Rocky Pasture. You will tell him the conditions regarding operations, and how this should be handled to make a success of same. Then you will answer other questions regarding [4906]‘s holdings in other places that I will ask you.

2. EC: Yes, we have the holdings, the operations, of this body.

3. Respecting the operation in Rocky Pasture, we find that the casing may be set (10 inch) in the eight twenty (820) level, that the shale that will be encountered in the twelve to eleven hundred (1200 to 1100) feet will necessitate other casings, as will the lime under same at the eighteen seventy-nine (1879). These, handled in this manner, will insure the large production here, in quantities as has been given. We would handle this as that:

4. The stratum in the eleven hundred ninety-eight (1198) may be taken for the small production, yet the large production will be found near the twenty-six hundred (2600) feet, see? Ready for questions.

5. (Q) Would it be well for [4906] to sell his interest in the Baird lease and put same in the San Saba operations? Or would it be better for him to drill to a deeper sand in the Baird field? Or is there a sand there? If so, at what depth? (A) Seven hundred twenty-eight (728) feet from that producing sand from which the oil is being taken. Drill to the greater depth for THIS production, while disposing of these holdings and investing in San Saba would be well, but would be unwise until the deeper production is shown, for this will be much larger production than the upper stratum.

6. (Q) At what depth will they reach production? (A) As given.

My dear Mr. [4906]:-

I suppose you are wondering what must have happened to me, even after I had asked Miss Davis to send you the reading that was gotten the latter part of December. I certainly am in hopes that the information was worth while, though I presume from your last letter it hardly told you just what to do with the proposition in Rocky - but I am in hopes that you have been able to handle the situation there, and that things are getting in better shape for you.

A little explanation I am sure is due you, as to why we were so long in getting the reading after receiving yours of the 7th of December. I do not mean this as an excuse, but rather as the statement of conditions, and I’m sure you will understand the situation. As you know, I am giving my whole time in trying to help others that are physically ill, and the very nature of the work is such that I am only able to give just so many each day under ideal circumstances. About the middle of October, my Mother was taken seriously ill, and I went to be with her until the end - which we knew and realized couldn’t be very long off. She passed away on the 26th. Being away from my work, naturally this delayed a great many appointments that had been made, as well as making accumulations of many requests that had to be handled, and in trying to get up with the work, it required my making appointments very close and not leaving any time open for unexpected requests - which we try under normal circumstances to do - that is, leave dates open each week, that such requests may be handled. So, at the time your letter came, we were already booked up so closely that it was not until the reading was taken that we had an opportunity to get to it. I assure you it is not a lack of interest, nor a lack of the feeling that I want to be of help if possible - for I do not know of anything that I am more optimistic about than the operations there in Rocky, for I believe you are going to carry it on through and I feel just as sure of the success if it is carried through. New Year’s Day I was taken ill myself, and haven’t been able to dictate a letter nor do anything until today. Didn’t miss pneumonia very far. So that is the status of conditions.

Now, I am in hopes that you are going to find opportunity to let me hear from you more often, and I am in hopes that you will not hesitate in asking that readings be given, if you feel they will in any way prove of benefit to you - and if we do not get it - that is, the information you want - in the first one, let’s take the second one or third one! for I verily believe they CAN be of help if applied correctly, and I believe you are one that knows how to apply them in the right way and manner. It hasn’t been any easy job, I assure you, to get back to normal work after the death of my mother. I feel that you know what such a loss means to any man. We never get to the point where we do not rely upon the council and the advice from our mothers. Her last message to me seems to me to have been worth while, for she said to me, a few hours before the end came: “Son, your mother is going to die. You have kept her alive for three years, but you can do no more. But you must use the gift that God has given you to help others. Be a good boy, and meet Mother in Heaven.” That, I think, Mr. [4609], would be an incentive to any red-blooded man, to say nothing of the hundreds of letters that we receive from time to time from those who have been helped, and it is just such expressions that has made me want to be prepared to serve suffering humanity better - and that’s why I want the institution, and I feel too that’s why you are desirous of being able to help me to be able to serve others better.

I am of the opinion at the present time that in the next two or three weeks I am going to make a trip, and it will possible be of two or three weeks duration. You possibly know explorations are being made for oil in Florida. I believe I am correct in saying that the first intimation that many had that there was a possibility of it being found there was given in a reading several years ago [[5741] series?]. Some of these same people who, with this information, had their engineers and geologists to go over the country, are now asking that I make specific locations, as they have drilled several holes without success - but have obtained sufficient evidences of the presence of the elusive fluid to make them believe it is there. Hence they want specific locations if I am able to make them. So I’d like to hear from you again before I make this trip, if it is possible.

Yes, we have had quite a number of letters from individuals to whom we have sent the little data we have gathered together, who desire to be interested in the work I am trying to do. There are contributions ranging from ten to a thousand dollars a year for the next ten years. Of course there are not a vast number of these as yet, but I believe that I am correct in saying that we have evidence that many others will be interested in what we are trying to do. Then, so many are getting such wonderful results, that sooner or later, I am sure, our numbers will be added to in sufficient quantity to justify opening the institution with the prospects of the continued contributions sufficient to take care of the needs of same - and if the Lord is willing, and I can preserve my health, I am in hopes that I may be the means of bringing health and happiness to a great many people.

Now, in respect to your own situation, from the reading [5628-3] I believe it would be an unwise thing for you to sell your holdings in the other field and invest them in the San Saba field, without first drilling for the deeper production, and I am in hopes you will make arrangements to make this deep test very shortly, though I trust it doesn’t hold up your Rocky operations.

R2. 1/15/27 Mr. [4906]‘s letter: “Your nice letter came today. It was waiting for me at the house when I came in, too late, for at 10 o’clock at the well I had made a deal to let the last half of my 1/4 interest at Baird go; the other half I let go the day before the reading reached me. I appreciate very much your effort to help me and I suppose I could not have held on to my interest at Baird anyway, for I had no partners - men with no qualifications - no real men at all. All had money except me and they were eager to freeze me out, and I took what I could get and wiped out the slate clean.

“I know you will be greatly disappointed to hear that I am starting a new hole. The fishing job grew worse each day and I finally had to plug it - the hole - up to the depth it was. Cost me over $13,000. I moved 50 feet Northeast of my old location, which was 130 paces Northeast of the junction of the 2 creeks. The people here have been very nice. I got them all to extend my leases a year longer, and that give me until 9/1/28 to finish my test.

“I am starting my new hole feeling that I will have success, just as I did the first one. Plugging this first hole has in no way cooled my faith in the proposition, yet it has cripple me financially and it will no doubt take me longer to finish now than it would have in the first place.

“This second hole I will let no man run tower except myself. I did wrong in trusting the hole to my tool-dresser. I did not get the job myself. Anyway, this well I will carve with my own hands from top to bottom. Do not be discouraged, for Bud [4906] does not start things and then fail, and if it is God’s wish for me to win I will get along alright. I feel that I will get a big well, for down in my heart He knows where the proceeds will go…

“Cayce, I wish before you go on your trip [to Florida] that you would get me the answer to 3 questions: (1) Will the move of 50 feet from my original location make any difference in the outcome of the well? (2) Was the first location in the correct place, to get the larger production? (3) Will I find my partners honest, in a new deal that I am entering into, in Pecos County, and will I get any wells out there?

“I wish you could see the rock we have blasted out, setting the rig on the new location. I am putting in a huge dam across Big Rocky that will insure me water during the summer months.

“I want you to come here when the well is finished. I believe I’ll get a share in your hospital yet…”
