This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 25th day of September, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self, on Active Membership of his father, Mr. [643], in the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading Sun Air Farm, 10:50 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Oak Ridge, N.J. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [567], this we have had before.
-
As we find, there are improvements in the general physical condition of this body from that we have had before. While there are still those reactions where and when the incoordination between the sympathetic and the cerebro-spinal systems causes and produces the contraction of the nerves and muscular forces as to bring the loss of conscious coordination, these are on the decrease in the number and in their severity. However, we still find these DO react.
-
While this has grown to be somewhat of a constitutional condition, yet - as we find, if there will be the persistency in the following of the suggestions that may be outlined for this body from time to time, AS CONDITIONS change, it may be met; for this condition is a very subtle one. And while there may be those things that have been and are contributory causes, these changed - the system having adjusted itself to a condition that at times PRODUCES same - there is the seeking to express itself in another way and manner. But the general conditions are on the improve.
-
Be persistent and be consistent, and we will RID the body of these conditions.
-
As indicated and shown, there is a condition in the axis at the 1st cervical, or 1st and 2nd cervical, that needs particular attention. This should be more in the form of - not like wringing the neck, but - raising the body by the head, that it may be in an alignment. This, of course, is not as much out of place in the present as it has been.
-
In making the adjustment in the cervical and in the lower lumbar, as indicated, this would preferably be made with the body lying on abdomen and then standing on the right side of the body the pressure would be TOWARDS the left, see? and down, with the knuckle or with the hand. This is the main adjustment. Why? This radiation from the ganglia and plexus here causes the contraction in the caecum and the lacteal duct area.
-
And we find that, then, the diet and the activities of the body have much to do with the general conditions in the body of [567]. These should be kept in the way that has been given.
-
THIS we would alter in the present:
-
From EVERY condition that is of true epileptic nature there will be found a cold spot or area between the lacteal duct and the caecum. Over this area every other day, in the afternoon when the body rests from its physical exercise in the open, apply Castor Oil packs, for a period of at least TWO times every other day applying the pack as hot as the body can stand; letting one remain until it is cool or cold, then apply the other - directly to the skin. This would be with three thicknesses of flannel dipped in Castor Oil, applied directly to the skin; then heat again, or have the oil hot, making the second application at each treatment. Let them extend from the lower portion of the lobe of the liver to the upper portion of the hip itself. We will break up this tendency for the lymph ducts, in the ducts of the lacteals and in the caecum and colon (ascending here), that tendency for contraction and for the activities that help to bring on the conditions that produce incoordination to the nerve forces of the body.
-
Do this.
-
Be mindful that there is not too much stimulation either through smoking, chewing, drinking, or anything of the kind; but let the activities be in the open, and work sufficient to get up a good SWEAT. Then the rubdown from same is necessary for the poisons and the combinations of the conditions, and will aid the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Do we understand that the right side adjustment to be given - (A) (Interrupting) This has been given. When on the abdomen, and standing on the right side push TOWARDS the left - and down.
-
(Q) Would cold sitz baths be of value? (A) As we find, the oil packs will be preferable to the cold sitz baths.
-
(Q) Would gas pressure cause the turns? (A) As indicated, we will relieve this - it is from a form of gas pressure in the caecum and lacteal duct area. This will be relieved by the use of the oil packs, for it strikes in - rather than the cold, which would tend to make for a relief but NOT call the lymph circulation through the area.
-
(Q) Is my diet correct? (A) If the diet is kept as has been outlined, correct.
-
(Q) Will the cyst at the base of my spine disappear? (A) Disappear. We would use an ointment with which to massage this, a combination of Iodex with the Animated Ash. To one ounce of the Iodex add three GRAINS Animated Ash. Mix THOROUGHLY. Apply each evening before retiring.
-
(Q) Then you would not suggest we try cold abdomen packs at night? (A) We would give rather every other day, as indicated, when the body rests in the afternoon, the hot Castor Oil packs over the right side - from the lower lobe of the liver to the hip bone, or pelvis bone, coming into the caecum area.
-
(Q) How much better am I? (A) Thirty-seven and three-tenths percent!
-
(Q) Any further advice for my better welfare? (A) Be consistent and persistent. Don’t expect to be cured in a day of that which has been builded for years, for it requires that not only the condition but the impulses be corrected towards normalcy.
-
We are through with this reading.

(GD’s note 9/25/34: [567], your father can get the Animated Ash for you to mix with the Iodex; it is made in Chicago by Bradley, 5443 Maryland Ave., in fact, I think it was suggested in your father’s reading so he probably has some on hand.
Following all these, keeping away from meats, sweets and starches, you should come along fine. GD.)

R1. 9/26/34 Father [643]‘s letter to EC:
Newcastle, N.B., Wednesday
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Your letters received here. We leave Monday next for Chicago perhaps via Oak Ridge. I would stay away as you suggest but Mrs. [652] in a way likes her son.
She suggests an alternative that you write to him quickly something with this thought:
Should your parents come via the Farm I want to urge you NOT to permit your desire to go with them overcome good judgment.
If you leave before we have completed the cure, later you will want to be back and finish this job and perhaps it may be impossible for you to be sent there, in addition to the loss of time and beneficial results. You can do it now in shorter time than later, as you KNOW.
Parke is a peppery little man, very efficient and apt to form conclusions. From [567]‘s progress it is apparent that the exercise is a big factor in the cure. I have fought on this point for 5 years and still believe that “cause precedes effect.”
I told [567] I would not write to Reilly. I do want you to mention in your letter that my belief is that he has my full cooperation, that the more [567] works the sooner he will be cured, that he will not work with us or for us and that he can go ahead knowing we are backing him up.
I felt badly that [567] could not take a farm job, get his board and room and some wages and with the treatments do all he is doing but he simply will not do so and I might as well realize it. His going to Arizona is just rank idiocy. Pool room, drug store and many hours of solitaire and contract will take him right back. I know that the time left is very short indeed and a little later it will be so far that it will be out of our hands. Dr. Kapple gave him expert attention. He took no exercise. Now he has perhaps inferior treatments but plenty of exercise and the spells come less often. This ought to prove that they must go hand in hand, exercise, treatments and diet.
I can get him into a lumber camp here for the winter. 40 degrees below and no way to come out. Diet is rough food, such as woodsmen have and I would like word from you, at Chicago as to what you think.
If he did it, he would come out next Spring a shaggy dog.
Sincerely, [643]
O.K. as soon as possible.
R2. 10/1/34 Letter from [567] to Edgar Cayce:
“I have your letter here today and am sending you a prompt answer for I am anxious to have you realize things as they are and your answering letter when my father and mother arrive.
“Frankly, Doctor, I believe you have the wrong idea as to my wanting to leave. From your letter I gather you think I feel overworked and anxious to sneak away from same. But this is not the condition at all. Here are the facts:
“(1) My diet consists of three healthy meals a day. Not according to my personal diet but just healthy foods for the general run of people. (Honestly, doctor, I could do ABSOLUTELY as well if not better at home.)
“(2) My exercise consists of an approximate 4 mile walk each day. In addition to this I spend about an hour a day with an axe. (This is going to be increased, however, but the weather to date has forbidden it.)
“Now, Mr. Cayce, - frankly I want greatly to get well. I also have a great deal of confidence in you. But I want you to know things exactly as they are, for IF I can get along as well at home I am saving my father $100.00 a month and this means a lot to him. There is nothing he won’t do for me, but I must make the burden as light as possible. If I had seen an improvement due to conditions I could NOT obtain at home I would have informed you long before this.
“The things that I am most pleased with, here are my treatments. The doctor ‘knows his stuff’ so to speak. He gives me adjustments that really ARE adjustments. But could I not find some man in Chicago who could do as well?
“These are the facts as they are. I intend to take your advice and do as you say but please do think these over before deciding.
“I am still having my turns at regular intervals. They are milder, however, lasting about one minute. Since arriving they have occurred on the following dates: Sept. 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12 - 17, 18 - 21, 22 (2), 23, 24, 25 (2), 26, 27,
- 29. My last turn was Sat. morning the 29th. It is now Monday afternoon.
“Now my idea is this - If I could get out to Arizona with the family I would try to locate some labor job, road building or something similar in the open. I would eat my meals at home ACCORDING to your diet, would get my exercise and would also be earning money.
“Well, I will wait until I hear from you and whatever you say goes. Remember me to Mrs. Cayce and the others, and do write soon.” [567]
R3. 10/3/34 EC’s letter to [567] on Reilly’s Sun Air Farm, Oak Ridge, N.J.:
“I have yours of the 2nd, and I note with a great deal of interest what you have to say about the conditions there, about the circumstances that surround your staying there, and the desire on your part to want to become an asset rather than a liability to your father, and note also as to what your plans are in the present for such conditions, - but listen to me, [567], just a minute. Let us analyze the situation from a practical standpoint.
“Be honest with yourself and with me. Of course, I realize I may be very far wrong. Possibly, when you are at work or when you are away, you go straight on with your work and do fine, but I am thinking and I am believing, from your letters, it is true that the turns have lessened in their severity and more and more are they getting farther and farther apart and you are on the improve. You have got this thing on the run. LICK IT NOW while you have got it, and then not only can you go out and work, but you can go out and BE somebody and know there won’t be any aftermath of the thing, and you will have gotten your habits and yourself and, most of all, your own SELF CONTROL in hand, and I believe it will be worth it.
“You know I am not trying to drum up patients for Reilly. I would like not only to see you go out to Arizona - I would like to go along with you, but that is an impractical thing, of course, but realize if I am worth anything I belong to others. But if you will hold tight, (and I believe your father and mother will both agree with me), stay there for another month, two months, or whatever is necessary, it will be much better for you and all concerned. You say Reilly can do the work, and you know the exercises are building you up and you know you are making these changes. Every once in a while we will check up on this and see if you are doing the right thing - and I believe you will lick him - and you won’t lick it by changing here and there, because, as I said in my last letter, it will mean that you will have to commence all over again.
“Be sure and let me know your decision about it, because it isn’t long now before I will want to get up another check reading for you.
“With kindest personal regards, and asking to be remembered to your father and mother when you see them, I am” Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R4. 10/10/34 Father [643]‘s letter: “We visited the Farm and were pleased. [567] seems better and now stays on. I still think toxemia is the real cause of all damage done.”
