This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 8th day of January, 1935, in accordance with request made by the father - Mr. [643], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and Christian Mae Bailey.]
Time of Reading 3:55 to 4:10 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Arizona. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [567], this we have had before.
-
While conditions are not all that may be desired in this body, much improvement is seen from that as we FIRST had here. While there is the tendency for the body to become lax with those suggestions that have been made for the corrections, these - as we find - for the PRESENT, and under the existent conditions, may be as well carried out here, in the immediate surroundings; IF there will be the applications made that have been outlined for the body. With the laxness in following these, there has been the tendency to increase the activities through those areas where the segments have hindered the activity through the system - and the lesions in the ducts of the assimilating system, or the lacteal ducts. So, there is a little more severe - or a more constant reaction; or the return more often of the contractions, or the turns, or the spasmodic reaction to the glands that are affected in their activity to the sympathetic and cerebro-spinal system in coordinating through the glands and ducts in the medulla oblongata and in the ducts at the end of the spine.
-
Then, these are the activities that we would have:
-
At least twice each day let there be sufficient activity as to cause a full, deep perspiration from the ACTIVITY; NOT from the humidity nor from the present surroundings! This means activity in ANYTHING that gets up a sweat; either running, walking, chopping, swinging, digging - ANY of those things that MAKE for real MUSCULAR reaction, so that there may be the muscular PHYSICAL reaction, see?
-
Each day we would have the Castor Oil packs over the caecum and the lower portion of the liver, so that all the lacteal ducts and the umbilicii centers are acted upon BY this reaction, see?
-
At least twice each week we would have specific adjustments made in the lumbar centers, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th lumbar centers, coordinated with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th cervical centers; also - with the body bending over a chiropractic table, without the feet touching the ground or floor - the centers in and about the coccyx end of the spine, coordinated with the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th dorsal, as well as the 3rd, 4th, 5th cervical and the 1st and 2nd cervical. These would be given about twice or three times each week.
-
These, as we find, with the care as to the diet, should make for a great deal of proper change in the conditions of the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Shall I continue work with Sherman? [Sherman Sing - His name in English is T. D. Sherman-Thakar Dass Sherman.] (A) If Sherman works hard enough to make the body work in those ways as indicated here, FINE! Merely suggestions as to the reading and studies are WELL. But those mechanical and physical applications indicated are the best things for THIS particular body.
Make a budget of the time, like this:
Have a certain time to arise of a morning; a certain time for the breakfast; a certain time for the physical activities; a certain time for relaxation after same with a period of mental recreation in the proper CHARACTER of reading; the proper time for the noon meal, or lunch; the proper time for the exercises and then the relaxation in the afternoon; a proper time - and a SPECIFIC time - at which the body will retire each evening, and don’t make it AFTER ten o’clock!
-
(Q) How can Sherman best help me? (A) By advising and seeing that those things suggested here are DONE IN the MANNER indicated!
-
(Q) Are treatments correctly given? (A) These suggested here are new, or changed. When they are given as indicated here, they will be CORRECTLY given.
-
(Q) Where and with whom will I get best and quickest results? (A) As indicated, in the present stay in the immediate surroundings. Let the chiropractor - Crider - do the treating.
-
(Q) Should I go back East or remain in Arizona? (A) For the present remain, for these treatments have been given for the immediate surroundings. Do these; but be consistent. For the results the body gets will depend upon how consistent and persistent he is with these suggestions! Make up its MIND that this is ITS JOB! Not only for its own physical and mental well-being, but as a duty, as an obligation due those that have made and do make the possibilities for the body’s experience.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 1/31/35 Father [643]‘s letter: “I am certainly sorry that I have been so late in sending a check but I had to wait until in funds.
“[567] got so that he was improving under Reilly. Since getting home he has seated himself at the card table. He takes the oil packs, and does certain other things that he has been told to do but the exercise which you specifically prescribed is lacking. Some days he calls a hike from town, 3 1/2 miles the day. Some times I think he picks up a ride for a part of the way. He stopped cigarettes. Turns began more frequently so I gave in to his having 4 a day until the nervousness wore off somewhat.
“The darned things are drugged without a doubt as the effects in quitting are so manifest. I was to stop liquor and I felt it plenty.
“[567] says you allow him 20% acid. His guess is what he wishes at the time. His uncle told me he was in town and was having quite a feast on forbidden items, such as chocolate and sweets. Readings are therefore a waste of your time and of the money due for them, if not paid promptly.
“If he asks for another suggest your fine assistant make up one. It will do as much good. He wants a job, threatens to ‘get to hell out of here’, etc. With work all around the place he does absolutely nothing and earns perhaps the ounces of bread alone that he eats. I know he is sick and abnormal but some effort must be made to overcome the poison in the system. I write critically that you may fully understand the tragedy of a splendid body wasting the precious hours while the coasting is good and with a terrific smashup at the bottom of the slide.
“What can we do? He will accept no approach I make. He sits and plays solitaire. Sherman here is helping him all he can with the health breathing, and curing thoughts used by the Hindus.
“I cannot send him to another camp. I guess I will have to stand by and watch with many a pang the serene approach to disaster.
“40 minutes work will be enough for him any time. If he has raised a good sweat yet I could not distinguish it. Can you think of some word to get him awakened? Be careful that he does not suspect my suggestion as that starts stubbornness such as I have never encountered.
“Are you coming out this way? Always glad to see you and I think of you often.” Sincerely, [643]
R2. 2/10/35 Mr. [567] submitted questions, also his mother, Mrs. [652], who said: “I think Dr. Crider’s treatment is too strenuous and that Dr. Johnson would be better.”
R3. 2/27/35 See 567-7.
R4. 6/8/35 Father [643]‘s letter (see first part under 567-8 Reports):
“The family are now at …, Pasadena.
“Here it is 106 in the shade of the patio. During the hottest of yesterday I mowed the lawn. I am not bothered at all by the heat and I sleep like a tired child. Like you I believe health can best be kept up in the open sun, and in work, physical.
“This country is like Ponce de Leon’s Fountain. It keeps old age away. It is hard to stay away from the whiskey, as it is a hard drinking country, being killing in the heat, but I have managed it for over three months now; in that time few drinks.
“The exhilaration of sobriety is so far ahead of that given by a highball that it pays the mental dividend as well as the bodily one.
“Our cotton fields look the best around here. The head man is T. D. Sherman [See 567-6, Par. 10-A], an Hindu, himself a Yogi. People come to him for readings and he has traveled on the vaudeville circuit.
“He is a wonderful man, the best in my experience and it is a comfort to have him around. He is ‘holed in’ while times are so bad.
“His brother came here from Imperial Valley to settle all the disputes of their people and liked it so he remained and brought Sherman over. Chand worked Long Staple cotton last year, lost out and has gone to Texas to try it there.
“The whole rambling place is mine to live in. My time is my own and I have the right chance to work out my own problem without the unrest of the family, and I am doing it, with the aid of Philosophy, under which nothing can stand.
“Comfort comes in the shade, especially if there is a breeze.
“Perspiration is licked up by this dry air as fast as it appears and there is no stickiness to the skin. The sun gives more violet rays than any place else it is said. Would 15 minutes after the atomic ash do as well in this brilliant sun as the artificial lamp suggested by you? If so I could go on with the treatment. [Copied into 643-1 Reports.]
“I believe the capsules are more than the prescribed amount. Would the extra be too much?
“We still appreciate all your interest and I may say that real power ought to be yours; your modesty is in line with that of the great teachers of the World. So, with Church just ahead this morning, I close this wandering collection of words.
“With kindest regards to you all, including G. W.” [Gray Salter?]
Sincerely, [643]

B2. 1/2/35 Mother [562]‘s letter: “Today [567] had a treatment from Dr. Crider, D.C. [O. W. Crider?] who, he says, seemed to work like Dr. H. J. Reilly, but of course he isn’t sure these people are doing correctly.
“We have a Brahman Indian here, a high caste Hindu who has studied the occult all his life and seems to be a very fine man…he seems to be anxious to help if he can [Sherman Sing]. Please ask if he can help with [567].”
