This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 7th day of July, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [605], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 10:50 to 11:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ky. [As of yesterday morning, EC ill then and not able to keep the appointment] (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [605], July 6, 1934, …, Ky. This we have had before.
-
As we find, with the conditions here it might be said - in the parlance of some - “I told you so.”
-
As we have indicated, the disturbing factors in the physical forces of the body are of such natures that they are rather as the warnings to the body, that there be corrections made in the physical body in the present, when they are less disturbing now than they will be if the conditions are allowed to continue or to grow to such an extent as to become so much a portion of the general physical organism - and gradually, through the hold upon the system, disturb the various impulses in the system as to make for a great deal of disorder. On the other hand, if these are corrected in the present, it will require far less disturbance and make for a much easier manner or nature in which the corrections may be made, and thus PREVENT the disorders and disturbances that will later be a result of neglect on the part of the body and of those that may be said to be in part or wholly responsible for that which is affected in this active force of this body, [605].
-
There has been, as we have indicated, a subluxation and a pressure in the upper dorsal and in the cervical areas such as to prevent the normal flow, the normal impulse, the normal nerve activity through the bronchi, through the throat, through the vocal box, through the organs of the head and throat. That the correction was partly made brought about an improvement in the condition, but with the arising of impulses for the conditions to become irritated, those ganglia and impulses from the disturbed portions of the body then produce again - in their cycle of activity, under the stress that arises at times in every physical organism - much GREATER disturbances than have been heretofore exhibited or shown in the body, until recently. The effects are seen in portions of the throat, disturbed elements or organs, or disturbed glands - as the tonsils, adenoids, soft tissue in the face, nasal cavity, even behind the ear - when there has been at times in the activities even in the body (especially do we find this early of morning, and wears off) a tingling in the ear, or a buzzing somewhat, that gradually abates and gives little or no trouble. These are the effects of conditions in the system.
-
It is true that there may be aid and assistance given to the impulses of the mental organism of the body by the application, or concerted action of the spiritual forces that may manifest in a material world through the material organism. But when a physical organism - that is separate or apart - has become so overtaxed with physical forces in itself as to produce disturbance, it requires - as we will see indicated in this body - that mechanical aid ALSO be brought to bear, that the greater impulse and influence may be brought to bear upon the portions of the system that are under stress and strain.
-
Then, for the corrections, as we would find in this time for this body, we would have a perfect alignment made through the chiropractic or osteopathic adjustments that will make for the relief of the pressure specifically in the upper dorsal and throughout the cervical area.
-
We would also have applied, for at least two or three periods, the electrical forces in the diathermy; so that we may allay or coordinate the activity of the nerve impulses and thus keep from the blood supply the tendencies for the portions of the blood to ACCUMULATE where there has been and is the tendency for the slowing up of the circulation through the affected parts.
-
And it’ll not be necessary for operative forces, other than the corrections and the low electrical treatments.
-
The diathermy treatments we would take two or three each week, for two or three weeks. Then rest two or three weeks from these treatments, you see; then begin again, continuing until there have been at least sixteen such treatments given.
-
We would have adjustments in the same ratio and same manner.
-
During these periods be mindful that the diets are kept much in the nature of the alkalin reactions; not too much sweets nor too much starches particularly.
-
And we will find we will not only overcome these conditions but, most of all, we will prevent much greater disturbances in the physical and in the mental body through those periods that affect the suggestive forces of the body - through this hindrance in the speech and in the approach the body is able to make to many things; and bring a much nearer normal and a more perfect coordinating and acting physical force in the body of [605].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Would the removal of my tonsils prevent my stammering permanently? (A) It would NOT; but would only do this: SUBJUGATING the body through those forces necessary for such an operation would, for the time, materially aid; but as time goes on (as it has a way of doing) we would gradually find that there would gradually return the forces that would prove just as severe or even more so, but the organs or tonsils are NECESSARY in the body! These kept in a healthy state are as the scavengers for the system.
And making the corrections where those segments show subluxation or depression or non-alignment, adding to the system the electrical forces, will not only cleanse the organs themselves but will purify the whole blood stream and make for not only a permanent relief from stammering but other conditions mentally and physically would be prevented that WILL arise unless the body is cleansed and the pressures removed.
- (Q) Were there not enough corrections made, or were they not correctly given? (A) Not ENOUGH of the treatments given to MAKE for PERMANENT alignment in the areas indicated.
Do these, and we will bring the better conditions to this body.
- We are through with this reading.

(See enclosed letter with directions to an Osteopath or Chiropractor whom you may choose to give you the treatments. It may be that you could get the diathermy treatments from the same office. I understand that Dr. Sargeant is a chiropractor, and that he also has a diathermy machine. Also I find listed as a member of The American Osteopathic Association, Dr. Martha D. Beard, 1610 S. Virginia Street; however, she may not have the diathermy machine so that she can give you the treatments from the same office. However, you can figure that out for yourself, and choose whichever one you think best; just so you be sure to follow ALL the suggestions AS GIVEN.
The enclosed Alkalin Reacting diet list also might be of help, as it seems your diet should consist principally of these foods. GD.)

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/10/34 She thanked EC for the reading.
R2. 7/13/34 Letter from [Aunt, [844]] to EC: ”…We are still doing all right and as soon as possible [486] and I want to give [605] the Diathermy treatments you recommended to her. I wanted her to begin next week, but she has been invited to visit in Clarksville for a few days week after next and would not have time to finish same before going so guess we will wait until her return home. Guess maybe some of the others can give her the other treatments and I hope they will be by Dr. Beard. We will have Dr. [Ed] Stone as he is our Doctor and is well equipped…”
R3. 7/18/34 Letter from EC to [844]: ”…I know Dr. Beard is fine. She has handled a good many cases and I certainly hope that you don’t have any trouble in getting Dr. Stone to give the diathermy treatment. I feel she is very, very much in need of these things, for unless she does have something, the conditions are going to gradually grow and it will be worse, for there will be other troubles that will arise that are only the outcome of what is really disturbing to the body [605]. It is physical, not psychological, but it is not necessary for an operation if she can have the correct adjustments and other treatments…”
R4. 7/24/34 Letter from [844] to EC: ”…[605] has two more treatments to take this week and then she will rest two weeks as you suggested. I guess it is too early to see much improvement and then I see her so little too, so I really do not know just how she is this week. I noticed when we went to Dr. Stone the first time and when she was talking to him she did not stammer. I do not think she should swim and do such while taking these treatments, but Dr. Stone said it would not hurt her. Guess he did not expect her to stay in the water all afternoon though. What about it?…”
R5. 7/27/34 Letter from EC to [844]: ”…I am just in receipt of yours of the 24th. I certainly am in hopes that [605]‘s treatments will bring about the improvements desired. I know it will be necessary for her to be a little patient and a little precautious about everything and, of course, she will have to have those adjustments for the diathermy to have the proper effect upon the system and eradicate the cause of the disturbance. It will be very well after she has had all of the diathermy and all of the corrective treatments for us to have another check reading and see if these things that have caused the trouble have been eliminated, and we will be very glad to do that; so you can ask her and let us know about this and we will see what we can find…”
R6. 9/5/34 Miss [605]‘s ltr.: “I am writing you to ask you if you think I am improving. I have started to school and have some difficulty in talking. If I am improving, which I think I am, about how long do you think it will be before I will be entirely cured? What doctor would you advise for me besides Dr. Stone? I have only 4 more treatments from Dr. Stone, then I will go to Dr. Beard.”
R7. 9/12/34 Letter from [844] to EC: ”…Am glad to report that she [605] has improved, but the first day she started back to school, she stammered so badly she could not talk and the pupils laughed at her so much she cried all afternoon and was crying when […] got home from work, so […] called all the teachers and asked them to let her write her lessons when she stammered and they said they would do so and only one knew that she stammered they said. She has been doing better since that time.”
