This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 29th day of September, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [675], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by his wife, Mrs. [662].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 3:15 to 3:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.J. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [675].
-
Now, as we find, there are conditions the correction of which would make for better physical functionings with this body of [675]. These conditions, while the results and effects of the disturbing forces are varied, cause something of a combination or complication of disorders; and with the corrections or alterations that may be brought in the activity of the vital forces and energies of the body, there may be the resuscitating and recuperative energies that are capable of being reproduced in this body.
-
The disturbances in the BLOOD SUPPLY are the effects of the poisons, and the waste tissue not being eliminated sufficiently from the system to allow the new or the assimilated energies from the vital activity and digestive organs of the system to supply the energy necessary. Hence we have a disturbance in the metabolism of the system, a lowness at times in the blood pressure, disturbances in the eliminations through the kidneys and the bladder disorder; the abrasions that occur in the skin (or the rash) are the effect of these same types or characters of disorder. The headaches, the dull languidness, the pains to portions of the body; as specifically in the feet, in the side, throughout portions of the system, from these accumulations in muscular forces at times, are all effects of the lack of eliminations. Yet to increase only the gastric flow through the alimentary canal will not be found, and has not been found, to be sufficient for bringing permanent recuperations to the body. While this relieves, and makes for at times temporary relief, the conditions return - and with the corrections of these disorders, and the proper activity for the system to bring about a better condition, we will find the body being relieved of many other disturbing factors also, and some of the more specific conditions that have been diagnosed as the causes will be found to be eradicated and eliminated entirely from the system.
-
As we would find, in bringing about bettered conditions for this body of [675] we are speaking of:
-
First we would begin with the use of those properties that are compounded and known as the Crazy Water Crystals. These we would take regularly for a period of at least a week, each day, so that there are at least the evacuations once, twice, yea three times each day from the alimentary canal. In the beginning we would take a heaping teaspoonful in hot water of mornings before any meal is taken; and in the evening take a level teaspoonful upon retiring, in hot water.
-
Then, after these have been taken for about a period of a week, we would begin taking a compound prepared as directed below, that will make for a much better condition, relieving those pressures in the lymph circulation where the conditions in the nasal cavity, in the head and portions of the bronchi have been of a disturbance to the body; and the general system will be built up:
-
To 4 ounces of Compound Simple Syrup, add in the order given:
Essence or Tincture of Wild Ginseng…1/2 ounce, Essence of Indian Turnip…1/4 ounce, Tincture of Stillingia…1/2 ounce, Fluid Extract of Yellow Dock Root…1/2 ounce, Elixir of Calisaya…1/4 ounce, Tincture of Capsici…5 minims.
Shake the solution together before the dose is taken, which would be half a teaspoonful three times each day, just before the meals.
-
And eat the meals more regularly and more consistently. Be mindful of the diet throughout the whole treatment; for in following these, and the diet in a systematic and in a consistent manner, there would come - only in doing such - any way near a permanent relief from these disorders. As to the matter of diet, let this be as an outline - not that these would be the ONLY foods, but those food values that make for the same reaction as these in the system:
-
Mornings - first a small cup of tea, or the Ovaltine; followed in twenty to thirty minutes with orange juice, grapefruit or the like, or (but not at the same meal with the citrus fruit) a dry or cooked cereal. A coddled egg at times, with dry whole wheat toast. Do not use white bread at any time, but only the whole wheat or rye bread - and this preferably toasted.
-
Noons - preferably either a raw green vegetable salad - that may include tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, celery, carrots and the like - or all vegetable juices; not those juices that are cooked with meats, but the juices that are combined of themselves, cooked either in a heater or Patapar paper; or meat juices - though it should never be a combination of meat juices together; either chicken broth, lamb broth or the like.
-
Evenings - well-cooked vegetables. Fish may be taken occasionally; preferably that which is NOT fried but boiled, broiled or the like. Fowl and mutton may be taken. Do not have fried food, such as steak or very fat roasts - they are detrimental to the better eliminations from the system.
-
It would be WELL that the body make associations or connections whereby, at least one day a week, there may be had a general rubdown; as in the Swedish massage or the Turkish bath, and the exercises - after the steaming of the body, and the exercising of the body.
-
Do this consistently, persistently, and we will bring near normal conditions for this body, [675].
-
(Q) Should the other compound be taken at the same time as the Crazy Water Crystals? (A) The compound is taken just before the meal, you see; while the Crazy Water Crystals would be taken some little time previous. But the compound isn’t to be taken so much until AFTER the eliminations have been set up by the Crazy Water Crystals. When the compound is begun, leave off so much of the Crystals, you see; but take more of the rubs then - beginning with those, but do not take the rubs and baths during the period the Crazy Water Crystals are being taken.
-
(Q) What brought about this condition? (A) Debilitation from the poor eliminations. Overtaxation. Too much work, not enough play.
-
We are through for the present.

ATTENTION Mr. Edgar Cayce
My dear Mr. Cayce:
I am in receipt of yours of the first, also the information disclosed by your reading. There are a few questions that I want to ask. First, about my diet: You say in the morning I should first take a small cup of tea or Ovaltine followed in 20 to 30 minutes with orange juice or grape fruit, together with a dry or cooked cereal, or a coddled egg with dry wholewheat toast. May I ask if the tea, 20 or 30 minutes before eating the remainder of the breakfast, is important as this would put me to a good deal of inconvenience, since, as you know, I am active in the business and I live at a hotel eating my meals out in restaurants. It would entail additional loss of time to go somewhere to have a cup of tea or Ovaltine, and then return 1/2 hour later to have orange juice. Would a cup of hot water answer the same purpose, permitting a little salt to be put into it so as to make it a little more palatable?
Another question: Am I to take the grape fruit or orange juice at the time or just before I take the cereal or egg, and do you wish to have me abstain from coffee altogether. I would also like to know if my noon meal is to consist of either raw vegetable salad or cooked vegetable juices as you say, if I am not supposed to take a piece of wholewheat toast with it or if I may have something to drink, either buttermilk or sweet milk, or coffee or tea, and whether or not I am supposed at any time to have pastries, pies, or cake for dessert. In the evening when you say I might have a piece of broiled or boiled fish, or broiled or boiled mutton or fowl, if I may have with this, wholewheat toast, and if I may have a dessert of any kind or anything to drink with it.
Will appreciate this information at your earliest convenience as I am going to give this a trial and I do not want to go at it wrong. Anticipating an early reply, I am,
Very sincerely yours, [675]
R2. 10/10/34 Mildred Davis’ reply to [675]:
Dear Mr. [675]:
Your letter of the 4th has been received. Mr. Cayce happens to be out of town at the present time, so I shall endeavor to answer your questions, which seem principally about your diet. We appreciate your sincerity and your desire to abide by the suggestions in the reading as nearly as possible. I have read your reading and note what it has to say about your diet. This was given as an outline, and did not mean these were the only foods you were to eat, except where it indicated you were to abstain from certain foods, such as fried foods, steak or very fat roasts.
Regarding the difficulty in obtaining the tea of mornings, I should think your suggestion as a substitute would be all right.
Regarding the taking of citrous fruits or citrous fruit juices with cereals, this should not be done, as the readings say this is a bad combination. Only one of these should be taken for breakfast, but you may have a cereal one morning followed by egg and whole wheat toast, and the citrous fruit or citrous juices the next morning, followed by the coddled egg and whole wheat toast. The reading did not say discontinue coffee, so I should say it would be all right, in moderation. Also, I should say buttermilk or sweet milk would be all right; certainly, tea. But the readings advise against taking milk and coffee or tea at the same meal. I should think Ovaltine or tea would be preferable, as these were mentioned specifically in your reading.
Your noon meal should consist principally of raw green vegetables or soup prepared from vegetable juices not cooked with meats; or you may have the broths mentioned. The whole wheat toast may be taken with these also, of course; or the whole wheat crackers; toast with evening meal.
The reading did not say to eliminate sweets, so I should think a light dessert would be all right. Notice particularly what your reading said to leave alone, then you have a large variety to select from. It did not mean that these were the only things you could eat, but to use this as an outline and vary your diet to suit your taste or needs.
Is it all clear now? If not, do not hesitate to write us further. Coddled egg is made by dropping an egg in boiling water, removing from the fire and letting it set for five minutes.
Let us know how your system responds to the application of ALL the suggestions given in your reading, after you have tried them a reasonable length of time and can notice a change. We are desirous of keeping in touch with each case and to make a record of the reports received.
In the case of Mrs. [662], she has informed us that she finds the osteopathic treatments prescribed for her too expensive. Will it not be possible to find a more reasonable osteopath in your vicinity. Many give treatments as low as a dollar and a half and two dollars. We would like to see her get started on her treatments and get relief from the condition.
With best wishes for the return of your normal good health, and asking that if there are further questions that you will let us know, I am
Sincerely,
Mildred Mary Davis, Secretary ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INC.
R3. 10/13/34 [675]‘s letter to EC:
Association for Research & Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia
Attention: Mr. Edgar Cayce
Dear Mr. Cayce:
A few days ago I received a letter of instructions from your secretary in reply to certain questions that I asked. I am anxious to follow your treatment minutely. I have again to ask you a few questions and trust I am not bothering you too much. It is with reference to my diet. In the first place, in the morning on rising, I drink a glass of hot water. About 15 minutes later I take my Crazy Water Crystals. A half hour later I eat one or two oranges to take the place of the orange juice you prescribed. About one-half hour after this I eat a cereal. I want to know if this is satisfactory.
At noon I take a raw vegetable salad with Russian dressing, two pieces of whole wheat toast, a cup of tea. I want to know if it is alright to have a piece of pie or cake for dessert, or if you would prefer to leave the dessert off.
As to the prescription, I have tried to have it filled here but I find that that is impossible. I will have to ask you to instruct your druggist there to fill the prescription and send it to me and I will remit promptly. He can send it parcel post. I will let you hear from me from time to time letting you know how I am getting along.
Sincerely yours, [675]
R4. 10/23/34 Dr. John H. Watson’s letter to EC:
DR. JOHN H. WATSON Osteopathic Physician 510 Second Avenue Asbury Park, N.J. Phone 2706 Mr. Edgar Cayce
Dear Sir:
I am quite interested in the work you are doing for Mr. [675]. I have been talking to Mr. [675] and he has told me you have recommended Swedish massage for him. I told him that I would like to treat him osteopathically to see if I can’t help the circulatory disturbance also the intestinal stasis.
Mr. [675], not being sure whether he should have the osteopathic treatments, requested that I write you in regard to his taking them. As he is a friend of mine and I am interested in his case you can be quite frank in telling me just what you think he should do.
Sincerely,
J. H. Watson, D.O.
R5. 10/25/34 EC’s letter to Dr. Watson:
Dr. John H. Watson 510 Second Ave., Asbury Park, N.J.
Dear Dr. Watson:
I am just in receipt of yours of the 23rd, and note what you have to say.
I would be more than pleased, Doctor, if Mr. [675] did take his treatments from you, and I am sure you would be able to give them in a way that would be most satisfactory at this time.
Having had quite a number of the [675] family to request readings, Mr. [675]‘s case was of course of special interest to me, and as I understand (and I think you will get the same thing when you read the information over very carefully, if you haven’t already done so) - the idea at present is, unless there are those relaxations taken properly by the baths, the adjustments should not be made, or until there is a greater stimulation or relaxation in the muscular forces that follow along the nerves of the system.
I would like very much to have your report on the findings in your examination of Mr. [675]. If we can send you any data or any information that would be of help to you in the study of the work we are undertaking, I would be very glad to do it.
I would be very glad to refer you to any of those in your particular therapy of treating that you would like to communicate with regarding their experience with our work. There are quite a number throughout the country. Among the first ones to investigate the phenomena was Dr. A. T. Still [Dr. Andrew T. Still, D.O.], the founder of osteopathy, and I count Dr. Hildreth [Dr. A. G. Hildreth, D.O.], Dr. Gravett [Dr. Wm. A. Gravett, D.O.], Dr. Woodall [Dr. Percy Woodall, D.O.] (those we may say are of the old school) - while such as Dr. Richardson [Dr. Martyn L. Richardson, D.O.] of Norfolk, Dr. Dobbins [Dr. Frank P. Dobbins, D.O.], of New York, Dr. Robertson [Dr. Lawrence S. Robertson, D.O.] of Forest Hills, Long Island, N.Y. - and any number of others that I might give you should you care to communicate with them respecting their findings with the readings, among my best friends.
I hope, though, that you will let me hear from you. I am expecting to be in New York some time during November. I don’t just know the time yet, but I would like to meet you and have a talk with you personally if it would be at all convenient.
I will write Mr. [675] today.
With kindest personal regards, thanking you for your enquiry, and hoping to see you soon, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC:MD]
R6. 10/25/34 EC’s letter to [675]:
Mr. [675] …, N.J.
My dear Mr. [675]:
Yours of the 4th and of the 13th were on my desk when I returned from some weeks’ stay in Washington, D.C.
Miss Davis, the Secretary, gave you the outline possibly as well as I might have done, but in yours of the 13th, I am referring the prescription to the druggist in Norfolk, Snyder’s Pharmacy, Church and Holt Streets, who will prepare this and send it to you C.O.D. or possibly open account - whichever you like.
I think you have the instructions for the diet pretty well.
You understand, Mr. [675], that when you begin with the compound that the druggist will send you, you are to leave off the regular use of the Crazy Crystals, though I am sure until you have had a sufficient number of massages or adjustments (and I believe you could get these treatments better by going to an osteopath, PROVIDED you will take your relaxations before you have these treatments).
I have a letter from Dr. Watson whom I believe you are very well acquainted with, and I would refer you to him. I would suggest that you let him read the whole reading - all of it - see everything that is done, and I would like very much to have his report on the examination.
You will no doubt receive the package from the Snyder people very soon, as I am sending it to them today.
Do not feel that you are asking too many questions or that you will ever be too much of a bother, for our whole purpose, Mr. [675], is to try to be of a service to our fellow man, and if there is anything at any time that you do not understand, don’t hesitate to ask and when you go to Dr. Watson, and as you discuss the condition from time to time, if any question arises in your mind or the doctor’s, don’t hesitate to ask it, for it isn’t just the phenomena itself, but rather the results that people have gotten - that is the wonderful thing, and that is what we are looking for.
Hoping that this will find you on the improve, and with kindest regards, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC:MD]
R7. 11/6/34 [675]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research & Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Sir:
I received the medicine from the Snyder Drug Company about a week ago. Except on occasions when I forget to take it, which has happened several times, I have been taking it regularly. I want to add further that I have been living up to the diet strictly. I want to ask a few questions, however.
As you can readily imagine, in a small town like this where the variety is not large, it becomes terribly monotonous to eat the same thing everyday. I am, therefore, asking you if it would be all right for me to eat boiled shrimp, raw oysters, clams. If there is any objection to my eating clam chowder and if I may take occasionally, twice a week, icecream, for dessert.
I have been going to this Dr. Watson who has been giving me osteopathic treatments. These are not, however, in any respect like the Swedish massage that I used to get a few years ago, and I want to ask whether in your opinion the osteopathic treatments, which in my opinion has to do mostly with the treatment of joints, is as healthful to me as the Swedish massage which has to do more with the circulation of blood. Dr. Watson seems to think that the osteopathic treatments will stir the circulation just as much as the Swedish massage. However, I have in the past, (not recently) taken Swedish massages for a number of years, and to my way of thinking, they would be more beneficial if it would be possible for me to get them. This, however, I do not know as yet.
Another thing I want to ask: it has happened on several occasions that I have forgotten to take the medicine just before eating, and just about the time I am half through I think about it. Would it be alright for me to take it then or immediately after eating or would you rather I left it off entirely as I did not take it as per instructions before meals. I want to also know if it is all right in the evening before retiring for me to eat an apple or between the noon day meal and the evening meal, if I get hungry, which I always do, if I can eat an apple or an orange. Thanking you in advance for your prompt reply, I am,
Yours very truly, [675]
R8. 11/12/34 Mildred Davis’ letter to Mr. [675]:
Dear Mr. [675]:
Your letter of the 6th, addressed to Mr. Edgar Cayce, has been received. Mr. Cayce is again out of the city, being in New York at this time. His address there is in care of Mr. George Hirn, 6844 Nansen St., Forest Hills, L.I., N.Y., and he is expected to be there the remainder of this week, except on Friday night when he is scheduled to give a lecture in New York City. I cannot give you the details just now, but you may be able to find out, if you are interested and desire to attend.
About the diet, Mr. [675] I should not think it would be necessary to adhere to such a strict outline; just avoid those things the reading told you to avoid, and eat normally. By doing this I think you will get along all right.
Regarding the massage, if your reading prescribed this I should think this is what you should have, though I am sure the osteopathic treatments are beneficial also. I would rather leave this to Mr. Cayce’s judgement.
Regarding taking the medicine, no way would be as good as the manner recommended. Therefore, I should endeavor to take it before meals, as prescribed. I do not know the effect of taking it in the middle of the meal or afterward, so could not say. I could only say, be sure and do not forget. Have a reminder of some kind, so you won’t forget.
Well, I hope I have enlightened you in a small degree, at least. Mr. Cayce will write you as soon as he can after returning, I am sure, if you do not see him while he is there. I do not know whether it would be convenient for you to get into New York, or not, but I know he would be glad to meet you.
With best wishes for your continued improvement, and hoping you will continue to let us hear from you, I am
Sincerely, Mildred Mary Davis, Secretary
R9. 11/18/34 GD’s note: Mr. [675] and his wife, Mrs. [662], and son, Mr. [527] were present at a public meeting at the Hirn home, at which about seventy-five people were present. A reading was given for an afflicted child, [738]. Mr. [675] got up afterwards and reported on his reading, saying that he had suffered with what the doctors considered a heart condition (angina pectoris). He was afraid to take a bath or go to bed without having nitroglycerine tablets handy, since he was apt to have an attack at any time. However, since following his reading he has not had to take any nitro- glycerine tablets for some time now. He still carries them, just in case, but he is so happy that the treatment seems to be getting at the cause of his attacks.
R10. 11/23/34 Mr. [675] and his daughter were present for his Ck. Physical - See 675-2.
