This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of May, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [808], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Virginia.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time with suggestions for further corrective measures, answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here. This we have had before. As we find, in the present, many changes have come about. There are some irregularities regarding conception, as to cause concern to the body, but with the corrections made osteopathically, so that the reflexes are more normal when the periods of menstruation pass, there will be less and less disturbance in this direction as conditions progress, but owing to the disturbances, these will reappear from time to time, though will lessen as the period progresses.

3. Following these periods we would use a douche of two tablespoonsful of Glyco-Thymoline to one quart of water. Have the water not hot, but not cold, to be sure. Have about three of these after each period. Let the one in between, or the second one, be an Atomidine douche. Use one tablespoonful of Atomidine to one quart of water.

4. We will find that the taking of Calcios regularly and also using vitamin E, or wheat germ in the cereal, will give greater strength, and do keep these up for a week or two weeks after the corrections are made so that the nausea disappears.

5. Keep up the osteopathic treatments throughout the period of gestation.

6. At the end of three or three and one-half months [of pregnancy], the nausea should disappear.

7. Do regular exercise. Walking is the best exercise of all. This is much preferable to any other type so as to keep in the open, but do not overtax self throughout the period.

8. Do these and we should have little or no disturbance and have a near normal delivery in the early weeks of November of this year.

9. Ready for questions.

10. (Q) What specific corrections need to be made? (A) Any good osteopath will make these. These are for the retention through those areas where the retention of the vagina is needed or the nerves and muscles of the vagina, so that the womb remains in place. Don’t take any electrical treatments.

11. (Q) What should I do to relieve nausea? (A) As has been indicated. With the correction and with the taking of the properties indicated, and after a period of three or three and one-half months, it will gradually disappear of itself.

12. (Q) The enamel is leaving the teeth at the gum line on some of my teeth. What should I do to correct this condition? (A) This has been indicated also. These vitamins and certain properties should be taken.

13. (Q) Have quite a bit of dental work to be done. Would it be wise to take care of it at this time, or should I wait?* (A) There is a drain on the system through these periods when the structural portions of the body-formation doesn’t drain the system entirely of calcium, yet it should be added. Don’t add it in the loose form or as pellets.

R1. 5/31/44 [808]‘s letter:

Now, I must tell you about Dr. Waters. I went to her last Friday, and by the way I was so sick Friday morning when I got up I didn’t think I could make it, but didn’t want to cancel my appointment at the last minute so did go. I really don’t know how I got there, but I did. I rode in with [2784]‘s gang and then [2784] saw to it that I got the rest of the way when I got to town. Anyway, Dr. Waters after examining the position, etc., said the placenta was pressing up against the bladder and had practically shut off the rectum. She gave me a wonderful treatment, and told me a position to get into every night before retiring to keep from having that pressure. Also a few simply [simple?] massages, etc. Anyway, after she finished she told me to go out and get something to eat that I was simply starving myself and she said you will keep it down too. Well, I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful she was to me and how wonderful the treatment was. She explained so many things to me and didn’t hurry at all in spite of the fact that she had two people there waiting for treatments and one in the dressing room. After my treatment I went out to the drug store, had some toast, went home by myself ([2784] was supposed to go home with me but when he called I told him I didn’t need him), and after I got home slept for three hours. I hadn’t slept the night before because of that pressure. And since then I haven’t gotten up once during the nights, but sleep right straight through till morning, whereas before I had to get up every hour during the night. Did you ever hear of such a thing? She said too the once every four weeks would be sufficient with me doing the few things she tells me to during that time and if later on I get too uncomfortable I could come every two weeks. I still have trouble with being nauseated, but have been keeping more food down, so that too is getting better. Some days, of course, I’m worse than others, but don’t have a desire to eat at anytime. Everything has to be forced and if it weren’t for fixing dinner for [2784] I just wouldn’t bother eating at all, but he makes me and lots of times I retain at least part of it. [2784] is simply delighted with the way I have improved since going to Dr. Waters, and [3054] said yesterday that I talked like my old self again. I had to call her and tell her about it. Now I’m doing everything to the letter in my reading. Oh, and [2784] and I went to a movie Monday night, believe it or not. We thought the roof would cave in as it is the first time in six months for me and a year for him. We did enjoy it so much!!! I think everything is going to be alright from now in. I have to go to my regular doctor tomorrow and [2784] said he will be surprised to find what good condition I’m in after all those frantic telephone conversations he had with [2784]. He will probably wonder what has happened to me. Today I’m just 3 1/2 mos. Isn’t that wonderful??? No more room so will have to quit for this time. Will look forward with the greatest anticipation to your visit, and please come, I beg of you. Lots and lots of love to all from us both.

R2. 6/13/44 “I’m supposed to see Dr. Waters a week from Friday so will deliver your message to her [to take good care of me]. She is a wonderful person and do want you to meet her sometime. Someone said one time that her psychology did them as much good as her treatment. She takes so much interest in the patient and has so much faith that you just can’t help but feel it. She told me she wouldn’t be afraid to do anything that you suggested no matter how contrary to what they were taught. And she meant it too! I must quit - Bye now and remember us to all.

R3. 7/8/44 “You were wondering how I am feeling. Feel just marvelous - As a matter of fact I feel better now than I have for years and [2784] has an awful time holding me down…

“I felt LIFE 2 weeks ago, but no one can tell by looking at me yet that we are expecting. As a matter of fact we just tell everyone (not a bit modest) and some are rather hard to convince. We just can’t keep it but expect soon they will know without us telling!!! I’m eating real good now and weigh 134.”

R4. 7/26/44 It was so nice to talk to you over the telephone the other night, and we were delighted to have the opportunity. However, I hoped later that you didn’t get the impression that we were trying to urge you to give the reading the next day if you weren’t well enough. Our only purpose was to find out if you were well enough to give it so [5373] wouldn’t take leave if it weren’t to be given. I think her leave is very limited and she didn’t want to waste a day, although she felt it very important to stay home and meditate if you were able to give it. So we suggested to her the only way to find out would be to call and that is what we did. We were a bit worried after talking to you though - we both had a feeling you were forcing yourself too much and pretending you were better than you were. I know it wasn’t our imagination because both of us felt the same thing. So I do hope you take the bull by the horns and give yourself a chance to build up properly. Dr. Waters told me to tell you this little story and I think it very apropos. Here it is:

“A little girl was saying her prayers and she said ‘Dear God please take care of mummy, daddy, and my little baby brother, but first of all please take care of Yourself, God, because what would all of us do without You?”

I thought that very good so am passing it on to you. Do hope you can manage to come here. I will leave you almost entirely alone, as I know that is what you need most now. No matter how much you think of people and how close they are to you when you are worn out physically, you just need to be alone. I know that from experience. So I’m not going to fuss over you, or bother you at all - am going to let you “unlax” (as Uncle Gus says), and do just what you feel like doing.

R5. 7/28/44 Ltr. to [808]:

Dear [808]:

Just a note to tell you that Mr. Cayce has been forced to take an extended rest - for his own health. He won’t be able to keep your Aug. 10th appointment. He has also cancelled all Sunday appointments, and your Sept. 10th appointment comes on Sunday.

He has given you another appointment for Sept. 11th in the afternoon, between 3:30 and 4:30. Neither Gladys nor I know which type of reading you are having - and would like to suggest that you let us have this information along with any questions you would to ask, etc., about two weeks before the time of your reading. This helps us to get everything ready in advance. Since we are so very, very busy, these days, we have to try to work things on a schedule - and it helps to make things go more smoothly.

R6. 9/4/44 She wrote Mae enquiring about Mr. Cayce’s condition, as she was worried. [9/8/44 Kathryn Patterson answered it.]

R7. 10/7/44 Ltr. to [808] from GD:

Dear [808] and [2784]:

For so long I’ve intended to write you details as to Eddie Cayce’s condition, but I just stay in a whirlpool constantly. Your card came today, [808], which I am forwarding to him. I think it would be fine for you to phone him sometime - although he is now in bed and unable to get to the phone, Mrs. Cayce could talk and you can hear his voice across the room as he relays messages. I’m enclosing a copy of the last reading [294-212], which I went to Roanoke to take down. It is the only reading he has given in the last two months. Also I’m enclosing a copy of a letter I wrote to Hugh Lynn and Ecken, about a week later, describing his backset, or rather the doctor thinks it was the turning point for the better [9/28/44 ltr.]. We never could get him to watch his diet, and now he has to eat what is brought to him. The doctor goes out and selects each meal, bringing him just what he should eat. He is steadily on the improve, but it seems awfully slow. They say this Dr. Semones (an osteopath who has his office right in the hotel) just does everything for him - has a colonic irrigation machine at his bedside, and gives him a colonic every other day just as the reading called for - and Mrs. Cayce wrote yesterday that the last colonic showed a string of mucous twelve inches long. They feel if they can once get his colon clear he will improve much faster. He is getting every single thing the reading calls for, and for the first time since I can remember he is following out his own reading. It is too bad that he waited so late to do it. These trembling spells have gotten farther and farther apart - Dr. Semones can stop them immediately by pressing on a certain nerve in his spine.

By the way, if you phone, you’d better make it person to person to Mrs. Cayce, because if he is able they’re planning to move soon to Dr. Semones’ home - a lovely place about ten miles out of Roanoke, where he can have home-cooked meals and be in the open on sunny days - also it will not be half as expensive.

[808] when you and [2784] have time, please read over the enclosed form letters and stuff, and give suggestions. We’re having such a time trying to keep things straight here. We’ve had to cut down the office force almost a nub - most of the work now falls on Mae and me, although two other girls are helping out in their spare time.

Do you know of someone who could make me some copies of Mr. Cayce’s reading - the one I’m sending you? I’ve already sent it to members of the family, but I think each member of the Board should read it - if I had a few extra copies I could get them passed around. There are still about Twelve Trustees who haven’t read it.

[808] - it seems awful that I haven’t written you in all this time - I want to thank you again for the dress you sent way back yonder - it has certainly given me a lot of service. It was sweet of you to think of giving it to me. I’ve thought of you a million times while wearing it, but it seems like I don’t ever have time for personal letters. I guess if I do my job here, it is personal enough, and people understand.

I’m excited over the coming event - your 1944 baby! Remember the reading’s prediction about those born in 1944 [1944-1945-1946]? I just know everything is going to be fine, all the way through.

R8. 10/14/44 Mrs. [808] wrote a long, helpful letter to GD, ending it: “Yes, the big event is to take place next month

• Mr. Cayce says the first weeks in November but my doctor insists November 30th. So, it will be the first weeks in November you can be sure. We will let you all know though. We are both so happy about it and so anxious that we can hardly wait - if only Mr. Cayce were well now, our happiness would be supreme. Yes, I remember what the readings said about babies born in 1944 and 1945. As a matter of fact you typed it for me and I still have it. Will keep it and some day show it to him (or her).

R9. 11/10/44 Mr. [2784]‘s wire to EC: “Baby boy born this morning 6:40. Both are doing fine.”

R10. 11/15/44 Baby announcement came to GD, saying baby weighed six pounds.

R11. 11/29/44 EC’s letter dictated (in a whisper) to Jeanette Fitch:

Dear [808] and [2784]:

Thank you very much for the wire.

So a little stranger has come to live at your house. I am very sure that in your know he will not feel that he is a stranger very long. I am sure that the blue of his eyes must be evidence to you that he came from heaven, and the fact that he came to you is evidence to me that he is one of God’s favorites. Then as such you must feel that you have a closer relationship to heaven and God and love than ever before. You must each just be yourselves for him to have the right environment and the right purpose through his sojourn in the earth.

It’ll be very wonderful when we can get his reading to see where he fits in the whole picture. I am sure that he is something special.

I am at home as you see. I think I am gradually but so very slowly getting a little better. Let’s hope it won’t be very long before we can find out just what’s what, who’s who, and where’s where.

Please give the baby a little hug and a kiss for me.

R12. 12/4/44 Ltr. to EC:

Dear Edgar:

I have wanted to write you ever since the baby was born - I have so much to tell you, but am just beginning to get my strength back and the little while that I can be up it seems I’m doing something for the baby and by the time I do that, I’m ready for bed again. We have a practical nurse looking after us but I just can’t resist doing the things for him that I can while up. You know how ‘tis!!!! Anyway I was determined today that I was going to drop you a note.

First of all we want to thank both you and Gertrude for the darling napkin ring you sent the baby. That was so sweet and thoughtful of possessions. I’m so glad it is something that he can always keep. Also received your sweet letter today and when the baby woke up I gave him that big hug and kiss from you. I told him about the letter and who the hug and kiss was from and he looked at me like he understood every word of it. Am going to save the letter too for him and mount it is his baby’s book - I know he will receive many pleasant moments reading it when he is old enough to understand. However, I think they understand more when they are just born than we give them credit for. Someone told me they can’t even see until they are five weeks old and the way this baby looks you over from the top of your head to your shoulders, you know darned well they can see. I wish you could have seen him when [2784] brought us both home in the ambulance. The nurse put him in [2784]‘s arms and he didn’t take his eyes off [2784] the whole way, nor did [2784] take his eyes off him. He talked to him the whole way home and it was really a picture to see them both. When [2784] took the baby in the house the ambulance drivers came out to get and said they had taken many new babies home from the hospitals, but never had they seen anyone as proud and as happy as [2784] was with that little fellow. And indeed he is - He just adores him, and you should see him when he hears [2784]‘s voice. If I’m feeding him and he hears [2784] when he comes in the house, he stops and listens and watches for him to come in the room. And when [2784] talks to him and plays to him, he is so perfectly contented. He is a tiny baby, but as strong as he can be. I wish you could see his little muscles, and he can already raise his little head. Oh, listen to me rave - I’m going to tire you out talking about this baby!

Well, anyway, what I wanted to tell you was that you were right again on all counts, even when you were awake and said you had a hunch it was going to be a boy. Right up until the last minute my doctor said it wouldn’t be before November 30, and you will recall that the reading said “A near normal birth the first weeks in November”. And it was a near normal birth and I got along just grand. Everyone has been so wonderful - I expected nothing in the hospital because a friend of mine had just been to Sibley and said how awful it was, and I was simply amazed at all the service the nurses gave me. As a matter of fact I couldn’t have had more attention in normal times. And the people that came to see me and wrote me - Even Dr. Waters as busy as she is came in one noontime on her lunch period and brought me the most beautiful bouquet of flowers from her yard. I will never forget her for doing that and she probably never will know how much I appreciated it. She went up to see the baby too. She said she felt she had a part in bringing him into this world and she wanted to see what he looked like. Now wasn’t that the sweetest thing you ever heard of? She told me she received a letter from your doctor and he said you were very much on the improve although it was slow it was sure, and she was so happy about it. She said she knew that would be very good news for me too, and indeed it was. Oh, another thing that touched us very much - Mrs. Wolfe, whom I have never even met, sent the baby the most adorable bonnet with the sweetest note to him. We just couldn’t get over it. And [2533] and [2390] sent him a beautiful cup to match the napkin ring you sent him. Wasn’t that sweet? Oh, I could go on and on for hours and still not tell you everything. Mr. [3178] came down the other night and brought the baby a Toidie seat from [2898] and Mrs. [2970], and he said they all can hardly wait until the baby has his reading. It seems more people are interested in knowing who this baby is and they refer to him as “Our Baby”. [2898] told [2784] we were going to have to share him with a lot of people. Ever our colored girl, Martha, refers to him as “Our Baby” and she just adores him. You should see him look her over! Well, needless to say, we sure are anxious to know who he is too, but feel too that he is someone very wonderful and precious. I can’t thank God enough for him and we both are so very grateful. I only hope and pray that we will have the knowledge to do the right things by him and teach and give him the opportunities that he came to us for. We are both so very anxious for him to see you and you to see him. You will just love him the minute you see him, I know.

We are so glad you are home again and that you are continuing to be on the improve. I never fail to pray for you, even when I was in the hospital and felt too bad to pray for myself. It sort of helped me just to pray for you. I felt God would take care of the baby and me. If I can get [2784] to relax now, I will be happy. He has so much to do and even insists on making the baby’s formula and getting up with him nights. This woman we have has the baby in the room with her and she gets up with him, but [2784] feels he has to get up too. Someone in the hospital said [2784] looked like he had that baby instead of me. He was worn out from excitement and lack of sleep. Then too he had so many things to do to get ready for us. He had to work every day too, which gave him no time for himself. So I’m hoping he will be able to relax soon and get some rest.

I must quit for this time or I will tire you - Do be so very careful and continue to improve every day. We do so want you to be well again. Will write you again real soon and again thanks so very much for everything.

P.S. [2784] told me to tell you that he hasn’t forgotten about the Philip Morris cigarettes. He has tried all over Washington trying to get them, but no cigarettes anywhere. However, a friend of his in Del Ray has promised to try to get him a carton, and if he does, you shall have them. You shall have them anyway because if he doesn’t get them, [2784] will find a way or someone who will get them for him. He didn’t have any idea how scarce they were not using cigarettes himself.

P.P.S. We’ll always be grateful to you for giving me that reading and putting me on the right track. I feel that if it wasn’t for you and Dr. Waters, I wouldn’t have this precious little baby now. Words could never express our appreciation, but I’m sure you understand how we feel.
