1. EC: Yes, we have the entity and those relations with the universe and universal forces, that are latent and manifested in the personality of the entity now known as [949].

2. In entering astrologically, or from the astrological viewpoint, we will find there are many variations from that as would ordinarily from such information be experienced in this experience of this entity; for the sojourns of the entity and the application of will as respecting those opportunities in the experiences, have altered or changed the physical, as well as the mental and soul development of the entity.

3. In the astrological aspects, irrespective of the will, we find these influences in the experience in the present:

4. Through the experiences in the environ of Mercury, we find the unusual mental abilities of the entity.

5. In Jupiter we find those abilities especially in the musical field, and the musical talents of the entity, as well as those abilities for the meeting, and the attitude that is held oft from those urges from the experiences in that environ.

6. In Mars AND Saturn do we find those influences that make for those obstructions, and those hindrances that are apparent in the physical, as well as the active forces of the mental body for this experience.

7. In Mars we find those tendencies to become easily irritated, that arise from (apparently to others) no cause at all.

8. In Saturn we find those afflictions in the applications to the physical being.

9. In Uranus we find those influences that may make for an advancement in the present, or development, of the innate and occult forces of the entity as a whole. This, then, makes for the combination of unusual or unseemly conditions in many ways, as respecting the abilities of, possibilities of, or the developments for the entity in this present experience; yet, as may be seen from the application of the entity to those opportunities in the experiences in the earth’s plane, there may be that builded in the present - by the application of the will respecting the universal, or the continuity of forces in life - that may make for a development that may surpass any influence that has yet been in the experience of the entity. In the ABILITIES in the present, those outward expressions will be found - as will be seen from the experiences in the earth’s plane - in the field of music; especially the piano, or a stringed instrument that may make for the awakening in the experience of others the rhythm and music that may span the spheres, or the experiences of many another, as to awaken in them the promise that the Spirit will make alive those remembrances to do good “to thine brother”.

In the one before this we find in that land now of the present nativity, and during those periods about Salem that persecutions came to those for their beliefs, and for those various experiences of individuals. The entity then among those that were of that as was called the Conservatives in the experience, and a teacher among those that persecuted those that had visions or dreams, or - as was termed - the familiar spirits. In the name then Haverhill. In this experience the entity lost, for there were those attempts to impel or induce by force others to view their awakenings or experiences in the same light or manner as viewed by self. Gaining in that when there came those disorders physical, with the change of environ - and coming under the influence of those in a southern clime from there, that led in the affairs of the cities - that in Providence town - the entity gained through ENABLING those to build for developments in that experience. In the influence in the present may be seen a particular interest in politics, and the effect that changes in administrations of various groups have upon the affairs of the peoples, or the places; yet this is held rather as a study than as something to indulge in personally by the entity.

In the one then before this we find in that period when there were the persecutions in the city of hills, when those that held to a tenet or teaching were persecuted through the fighting with beasts. The entity then among those of the soldiery in that experience, and jeered oft at those that became afraid - or those that would submit without any outward show of resistance, and the entity lost through this experience. Not from that of doing duty, but from that of the jeering at those that held to an ideal. The body was BROKEN through those experiences necessary for the awakening in that sphere, where there may become known to the entity that necessary for the awakening of the inner man, and the development of the spiritual forces innate in each soul’s companion forces, that bring in each experience that which is added to that gained or taken from, in a manner that each must meet that as BUILDED in their experience. The saving force as manifest through Him is the ability to serve and be of succor to another, in whatever position or place they may need, or are placed in. In this experience the entity lost throughout, and in the name Romana. In the present, those experiences that have to do with defending or defenses by soldiery, or the like, are of peculiar interest to the entity; and the readings and studies of the entity are often directed towards those channels that bring to the REMEMBRANCE many of the experiences of individuals, in near and in foreign lands, in defenses of principles.

In the one then before this we find in that land now known as the Egyptian, and during those periods when there were the reconstructions of those lost forces through the turmoils that had arisen from the changes in the conducting of the governments. The entity then among those of the musicians in that temple called Beautiful; gaining through these experiences, though coming under the experience of change through the banishment and return, the entity remained true to that as had been held as necessary forces for developments of individuals, and gave much to the peoples in the period through the playing of the instruments of that period, both in temple worship and in the dance that went with same, as well as in the singing - or songs that were brought INTO experience by the entity; and many of them may make for the developments to the entity in the present, will there be that particular study - in the music of the entity - of those that pertain to the GLORIFYING of forces that act upon the imaginative and mental forces of individuals, in service or in action in defense of any particular principle. In the present from this experience we find those innate influences that make for ability of some composition work in respect to these; those seekings within of those forces as to represent beauteous descriptions in either music or in act, or in peoples’ experiences.

15. In the one then before this we find in that land now known as the Peruvian, during those experiences when there were changes made by the influx of others from the sinking lands.

The entity among those natives who resisted, creating for self that of hate, through resistances made in the attempts of others to not placate, not to override, but the entity - in the name Omuld - brought to self, to others, THROUGH that, the persecutions, the false accusations, that made for contentions. In the present those experiences or tendencies to be made mad too easily, and the conditions that would BUILD contentions arise too easily in the experience of the entity.

16. In the abilities and that to which it may attain in the present:

Where there are ideals builded and adhered to, and these placed within those realms of the Creative Forces - that deal with man’s experience in the earth, and man’s relationship one to another, that make for those developments through the continuity of life’s FORCE flowing through same - may the entity gain in the present. Either in giving those that come through song or music, that may awaken much in the experience of others - but also serving in a manner that keeps self’s OWN ideal first and foremost for self, without inducing or forcing another to see a like vision. Keep self aright. Be true to self and thou will not be false to any man. Remember, the Creative Forces make for a continual development in material AND spiritual forces.

R1. 2/22/32 See 949-3, his next Ck. Physical, Par. 11-A—14-A indicating his music composition should be classical, present associations good but later should study abroad, in meantime completing his college course; that he does have talents also in field of writing prose and especially poetry.

R2. 5/9/32 He submitted questions for his next Ck. Physical, 949-4, also saying: I am greatly interested in your work; especially the Life Readings, possibly from the romantic viewpoint. And I would like to talk to you on these subjects, sometime. Possibly it is the mysterious element which attracts, but I rather believe that it is more of an intellectual philosophy, calling for the development of the soul, and physical, as much as the mental. For wasn’t it the Greeks whose creed was:

“Sound mind and sound body”.

At any rate, even if there was no direct benefit, I feel certain that it will be interesting; and thus I am looking forward to our meeting.

R3. 5/22/32 EC’s letter: We mailed your reading on to you, as we were head over heels in work trying to get our house ready to move into. It is keeping us all busy from morning until night. Hence the delay in writing. I certainly hope the information enables you to get the very best results, and that you will continue on the improve. Of course, I know you realize that the system must adjust itself, as well as rebuild many portions that have not had their normal use for such a long while.

Yes, I have long wanted to talk with you about the information. I’m sure that with your turn of mind there are many questions you would like to ask. I don’t know that I could answer them all. I might be able to illustrate a number of them by our experience with information through the years; for, as you can well imagine, it has covered a very broad field.

The life readings have been among the most interesting, and yet they may be called by some rather indefinite - because of the element of action and reaction the mind takes with its free will. These have been of special interest to my son, Hugh Lynn, who has made a more extensive study of them than I have. If you would desire, I am sure he would be glad to give you an interpretation of your own life reading that would prove most interesting to you, in the light of his studies and the comparisons it is possible to make from his position - that would be impossible for one to make who has only seen one or two life readings. He began a study of these some years ago, before he left college, and has continued in this for the last three or four years. If you will drop him a line, I know he will be very glad to do this. There would be no charge, of course. He is also interpreter and teacher for our study group, that is working out lessons on philosophical and theological lines from the readings themselves. So he is very much interested in the phenomena and the reaction the information has in the lives of individuals.

We have recently had some letters from a family in the middle west that have been most satisfying, though physically this family has not received benefits for their son [2155] as we hope for them to obtain. The mental and spiritual good they have gotten seems to be worth while.

R4. 11/14/32 EC’s letter to [949]‘s father, Mr. [437]: I was certainly most happy to meet you again, although only for a minute, and I didn’t have a chance to talk with you nor to stop in your office and worry you a while. I certainly did enjoy talking a minute with [949], and I was very, very much impressed with him. It is astonishing to see how much he looks like you. Never did I see a more remarkable resemblance, it seems to me. I know you are bound to be proud of him. He is so full of life and expectancy. The very hope that I may have been of some little service in keeping any hope aroused, if nothing more, makes me feel quite happy.

R5. GD’s note: The following analysis of the Life Reading was done by HLC probably in the fall of 1933 or in the spring of 1934:

Dear [949]:

After getting into your reading the question naturally occurred to me, just how far should I go in this first discussion? I feel sure that you had just about as little idea as to what I would write about it as I have about how you will take just what I have written.

This will be a start, anyway. Please write me any questions regarding any phase of your reading I passed over or any thing that I have said in this brief discussion. I will only be too glad to answer you as best I can. As I told you these readings lead off into many phases and I am always afraid of running off on something that will not interest the person to whom I am writing. If there is any particular part of the reading that interest you I would certainly like to go into it further.

The appearances offer a nice background for some reading. I have found mine worth going into in some detail. There are any number of works on the periods of your life reading.

Recently some very few good books have been published on Salem and its witchcraft. The Roman also makes a good background. You will find both of these periods much more interesting with a little parallel reading. I will be glad to send you what material we have on the Egyptian and Peruvian if you care to go into them.

From a general standpoint may I suggest one or two books that occur to me that might help you. “Varieties of Religious Experience” W. James, is worth careful study. There are a good many things on Reincarnation that might interest you. One of the most peculiar I ever read was Mary Johnston’s “Exile”. Try it sometime.

HLC’s Analysis of 949-2:

In understanding the reference made in the first paragraph to “universe and universal forces” it is necessary to consider the general trend of the information regarding man’s place in the world which has come through this particular psychic throughout the years. As a whole it is like a great picture of which we are permitted to see only a part now and then. Our world is a plane of the third dimension, as we say, a practice field for the soul encased in a fleshly body. In our own solar system there are many planets of different dimensions, different vibrations. On each of these the soul entering this system passed through a particular type of development or training. On Mercury it is a mental development, on Jupiter the higher ideals and emotions, etc. These are not developments of the physical characteristics but of soul characteristics which express themselves through the various channels, the mind, the emotions, etc. It is like going to school and passing through various grades, or classes. In each we learn some special subject and then go out into the world to express and manifest it. Each of the various planets is governed by laws, just as our earth is governed by laws (called natural laws). Too, the passage or the inter-between is governed by laws. As we pass through each phase of this universal development we come under the influence of these laws, these various environs. Throughout all of our experiences we have through the exercising of the will, a God given facility of the soul, aided or hindered our progress. In using then, the terms universal forces and universe all of one’s experiences in our little universe of the sun and its planets are referred to.

The word entity as used in the reading means the entire being, composed of the body, the physical mind, the soul, the subconscious mind (or mind of the soul) and the spirit, the essence of Life or God in us. Many religions, isms and cults have divided these up into many bodies and minds. Words mean little unless they are clearly understood to mean the same thing by both parties using them in communication. It is the soul and its mind that lives on after death, passing to its next grade or next planet for further development. The earth may be illustrated by a railway station. We go to a central station to take trains for all points north, south, east and west. We come to the earth in a physical body and depart for any merited or needed sphere of influence.

Astrological influences are the influences of the planets on which you have passed a sojourn before coming to the earth for this present life. Working from the simple basis that every body of matter has a certain attraction and affect on all other material bodies within the era of its influence, it is not hard to reason that all solar bodies repel or attract other bodies. The elementary facts of this influence are understood by science, the more subtle influences on the soulspof men, so much more easily affected by vibration than matter, are not clearly understood. Illustrating this in a simple form, when we are present in the room with a very dear friend or relative whom we have not seen for some time there is a very pronounced change in our mental and emotional makeup. Just so when Jupiter, say, on which we have developed certain characteristics comes closest to the earth, or is in conjunction with some other planet that influences us we are bound to feel the affect.

In your own particular case your will has changed many of the influences both in this plane and in the other planes. This will is the driving force, the director or the activity of the soul, therefore, expresses itself in our actions and thoughts daily as it is translated into physical vibrations through the mind. There is no force superior to the human will, it is of God, it is Divine. There is no fate except that which we build day by day.

[Missing text due to carbon] through an experience on Mercury you developed and therefore in …ual mental abilities. This does not mean that on Mercury you necessarily took the form of a huge mind as we know it. Rather on Mercury, the 4th dimensional plane, it may be called, the vibratory rate, the experiences under the laws and circumstances existing there brought about a high development in the channel of expression we call the mind. This lacks clarity because it is very hard to put into words an experience which even the imagination can not experience unless it makes it material. Each of the following planets may be represented by the words listed after them as the best possible expression of the vibration existing there:

Mercury - Mind Jupiter - Nobleness, high ideals, breadth of vision, strength Mars - Anger, trouble, riots, explosions Saturn - Envy, strife, pain, (the cleansing planet) Uranus - Occult, extremes

In considering the theory of reincarnation as represented in the readings by the brief description of several appearances it is well to understand that these are not the only experiences in the earth’s plane but only those that are particularly influential on our present life.

In entering a physical body the soul is naturally attracted to that environ which fits it or rather that which it has prepared for itself. It is only natural that entities would be associated with parents with whom they have come in contact in previous olives, since there may be conditions that can be met better together than apart. This is not always the case for a particular soul may need a certain type of development and see [seek?] it wherever it may find it. So far we have been unable to chart any regular time in relation to returns of individuals, so much is involved in the development of the race, nation, country, civilization as a whole of course. Generally after death as a young child the entity returns quickly. Violent deaths may also be considered a cause for a quick return.

The characteristics developed in one appearance become the subtle, underlying influences in the next. They come more as urges, feelings, tendencies, and the like. Strong likes and dislikes of both people and things are closely connected with developments in past incarnations. In the study of these influences there are naturally some definite conflicts with present day psychology.

Your experience in Salem, just before this, comes in connection with the experience on Uranus, the occult planet. (Occult referring to forms of communication with the other world). This is a very narrow meaning but an important one in present day psychic activities. The great rise of spiritualism in America has been due I believe to a return of a good number of the Salem inhabitants, with their neighboring witches of course from the other colonies. Evidently you left Salem and went to Providence where you became interested in the early politics of that city. To day there is only a latent interest in such matters.

The Roman period refers evidently to the time during the Roman civilization when the persecution of Christianity was at its height. Rome was called the city of seven hills you remember. This period was one of retardment and undoubtedly many of the present troubles and trials arise from it.

Saturn you will notice governed this experience. Have you noticed any tendency in your reading to turn toward experiences of peoples in defence of principles? Mars also was influential in this period. The combination of these too must have been very hard to combat.

The Egyptian experience is one in which we are particularly interested here. It was at the same time you were in Egypt, some 10,500 years B.C. that this work in a similar form to the way it is now carried on was developed. Practically all the individuals who have become vitally interested in the work which Dad is doing now were in that period. During this time you developed special musical ability. Jupiter governed this appearance. A very strong, hopeful influence. It is this musical ability that evidently is your stronghold this time.

In the Peruvian period during the time of the final destruction of Atlantis, referred to as “sinking lands” you developed certain tendencies toward those coming in that in the present manifest as quick anger or irritation. Coming under an influence of Mercury in this period I imagine it is rather a mental condition than an emotional. Probably very quick to flare up and passes unless continued as a mental worry or problem. A good thing to work against.

Ideals are the material aims and purposes of a physical-mental being that are in accord with the greater, wider scope of the soul or subconscious purpose. Man’s greatest expression of his ideals comes through his relation with his fellow-men. When we will stop and consider that each person we contact is just another soul as much mixed up in its physical body and mind as we are, going in the same direction, working under the same laws, with the same God, it is easier to stop and help in any way we can. Your inner self will find its greatest expression through music that will inspire others. That is a service to be rendered, a talent to be used, a light that will shine in many dark places. Its greatest expression, its highest form will not come simply through the mental or physical accomplishments but through an intuitive, inner expression of the soul forces which you have developed so far in that particular direction. Physical 949-5, Par. 13, 14 advising him to meditate daily, while using the Radio-Active Appliance, on the Infinite forming for himself a philosophy from the promptings of self as related to constructive influences in a material world; also to read from the Bible that given by Moses, Joshua, David, the prophets, Jesus (outlining specific chapters, verses, etc.).

R7. 10/13/37 GD referred him to Miss [275] who had also been given a Roman and an Egyptian incarnation and was interested in music.

R10. 4/26/38 Tuesday Ltr. from [949]:

Dear Mr. Cayce -

Just had lunch with Hugh Lynn and we had a very interesting time with my life readings - with Hugh Lynn doing most of the talking and a lot of explaining. It seems that in the Egyptian, where, incidentally, I developed musically to a great extent, I was closely associated and banished with the priest who was you. This, Hugh Lynn suggests, is probably the most important period to me at the present time, and he advised having a reading on that one period, to which, of course, I am more than agreeable. He took the reading with him and is going to prepare a few questions which he things pertinent. At the same time, I am going to prepare a few questions from the musical point.

I found his interpretations not only interesting, but something to think about, and something also, worth thinking about. He also suggested that I have another general life reading, saying as how his brother got a better and more informative reading the second time. Again, you won’t find me disagreeable. I guess it is pretty apparent to you that I am pretty interested in the work.

My last reading, physical [949-10], came out much as we all expected. I am very much improved, altho I still tire quickly in the hands and arms, there is hardly any pain any more to speak of. But I shall probably be seeing Dr. Miller, intermittently, until the condition is completely cleared up. She thinks that some more may be done to ease my condition thru the shoes. She says that my hips are thrown out of line and consequently there will be these conditions resulting from the unnatural positions and postures. I had my shoes fixed as the reading suggested, which question she advised my asking, and there is a tremendous improvement. So you can guess that I’m a little pleased over the whole transaction.
