This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 15th day of February, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [979], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:55 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Georgia. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [979]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, there are the evidences of the general debilitation, and the lack of the body supplying sufficient of the red blood cells in the system to keep the strength and the vitality of the body.
-
In the present, rather than other activities in the way of medicinal properties, we would use rather the diet to build up the body; in these manners:
-
First, we would take every day four White’s Cod Liver Oil Tablets; two about an hour after the morning meal, and two about half an hour after the evening meal.
-
Also we would take at least three to four teaspoonsful every day of Pure Beef Juice. Not just beef broth, but the pure beef juice.
-
The general precautions we would keep as to not allowing the body to take cold or become overacid - especially through these weeks and months when there comes to each individual such changes in the environmental forces by temperature and climatic reactions.
-
Doing these, we should build the strength and the vitality for the body - and bring the better forces and influences for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Please explain why the Reading scheduled for me on July 11, 1936, began by mentioning the name Dr. […] [[654]‘s husband] - and apparently the entire Reading was given for him instead of me, even though the suggestion for the reading was requesting it for me? (A) This was a need, and so interpreted by the information - and it would have been well for the use of each of the individuals if they had made the application of such. [GD’s note: Mrs. [654]‘s husband, Dr. […] died on 12/16/38.]
-
(Q) Any spiritual advice? (A) Keep the constructive influences and forces ever as a portion of the mental self. Know that the mental forces are the builders, and that the attitude which is known by the body builds the environment - and the environment makes the physical reactions.
Do that.
- We are through with this Reading.

Dear Mrs. [979]
Was good to hear from you again, have missed hearing from you and Mrs. [654] - haven’t heard from her now in long time - as sure every thing will be different for her with the young lady [653] away, hope tho Mrs. [654] is real well and that every thing is working out well for her.
Well the information for yourself is something that speaks for its self, just hope you can use it in such a way that it will bring you a great deal of help, know will be anxious to hear from you, for have always felt that you and your family were sorter part of the family - now as for the reading Mrs. [979], you know you can have a reading when ever it is possible for me to give one and you wish it of course the work depends on the contribution for the work to go on and when it takes several of us to carry it on, that is the source of supply, but no one that wants a reading is barred from having one because they are not able to pay as some other one might, so please please feel that you are entitled to a reading when ever it is possible for one to be had.
Hope [2657] is coming along nicely, have a nephew that lives in Atlanta is a minister, and believe he is in your part of the city, his name is Douglas McPherson [Douglas McPherson, son of Mary Cayce McPherson] am sure you can find out where he is, and should you see him please make a point to if possible and plauseible, tell him of your and Rev. [2656]‘s work. While Douglas is in the Anti-Christian [?] Church he is a lovely boy and am sure you will like him and his lovely wife.
Thanking you for writing me and sinceral hope to hear you are feeling much better soon.
With all good wishes
Sincerely Edgar Cayce

Atlanta, Ga.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
It was indeed kind of you to give me the reading, was expecting you to set a date, as in the past, so was pleasantly surprised when I rec. the reading. And want you to know how much I appreciated your fine letter, it makes one feel good to know they have a friend like that and I assure you your kind letter did me much good.
I have delayed writing you for two reasons. First I wanted to see how the treatment worked, second I was expecting some rent money from Selma (which I haven’t yet received). I do not know if you remember the “Thomas” property at the end of Ala Ave. A little over a year ago I bought that property for taxes thought I got a bargain, & still do, if all works out well. The property was so run down have had to spend more than I expected to get it in a renting condition. Now have a party in the house who is slow pay. So you see that is what keeps me from doing the things I would so love to do. I understand your work, like every other business must have money to carry on, and I do not want to presume on good nature, or take advantage of your kindness, but know you understand my intentions are good, and if things turn out as I hope in a business way for me, I will BE SURE to remember you with more than I am able at present to give.
I am enclosing 5.00 five dollars and many, many, thanks UNTIL can see my way to do more.
Now about the reading, I can not understand just what this lack of red blood cells means. If its any thing that will be hard to cure or control or if it is dangerous! I often think there is nothing SO VERY WRONG have a good appetite! and some times feel pretty good. Then there are days that I feel if I could only sleep my life away, no energy and its only a misery to have to try keep going. So I know there IS some cause. While in Ky. last summer I felt - so bad I went to a Dr. He said I had high blood pressure. That was a surprise, as I THOUGHT it was low blood pressure if any thing. Often my feet cramp and my limbs ache, not all the time, just at times. I have taken what you prescribed very faithfully. I may feel a little better but sure. My feet cramped & I did not feel that I was improving so very much. However I am not discouraged for know things of long standing take time to build back, so will continue to take your treatment until I do feel better or will let you know if I don’t that you may check up on it again.
Do you think that these check readings give all the information that the regular readings give? For there are some things the readings have not given that I thought they would, and they have seemed so short & as if there wasn’t much needed, which I hope is true.
Perhaps I am like the man who you told to eat a pear each day. Ha! Ha! Well any way, I believe what ever you say in what I need, and hope it will cure all the bad feelings I have & build my body & mind that I may be able to go forth able to do more for My MASTER. [2657] & family are well. Like most folks of today always in a grand rush. Mrs. [654] tells me she is better and I believe she is.
I have not been out so very much except to S.S. & church at the Druid Hill Presbyterian church. Dr. Elliott’s church. I hope to meet your nephew & wife and will if possible. With kindest regards to you & yours,
I am sincerely, [979]

Selma, Ala.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I left Atlanta just before the high water came. We thought one time from reports coming in that we would have to move, but there was more talk than water, for I have seen it higher many times. Expect Radio reports made you think EAST Selma was being washed away, when other parts - West & north was just as bad or worse. They love to slam EAST Selma.
Well I am plodding along about as usual. Fell pretty bad after I was home a week or two. Mr. Cayce I honestly believe this malaria climate is most of my trouble for ever time I have gone to a higher climate I feel better. And as soon as I return here I begin to get that awful sleepy feeling it gets worse than plain spring fever. I feel at times as if I was beyond going if I try read will first have to stop for will go to sleep no matter how interesting the reading. Its an awful feeling. I have been taking three sixes the last week or two. That seemed to help some.
It looks foolish to stay in a place where one knows is harmful to health, but I asked the questions in a reading you gave me. If it was the climate should I change. Your answer was not necessary, as [286]‘s work is here, and she has to try keep her job. I do not like to leave her alone. She is alone, now as she & her husband have parted. She should have left him years ago. So am not asking for a reading along that line. For as long as I stay here I feel I must fight the low climate. I may be wrong, but have tried it out several times with the same result. Now what I am going to ask, I hardly expect you will do, for you have told me before you did not do that kind of work any more, but when I tell you WHY I am asking it, you MAY be willing try for me, for if you could give this information I believe it would be a great Christian act, and would benefit us both in many ways.
When I was in Atlanta I met a lady who goes into a trance (very much like your work) and gives readings. She told me of my property & said on The Thomas place there was a treasure buried. Between twenty two & twenty three hundred dollars. Said there seemed to have been an awful lot of blood shed at the time it was put there, and she told me to walk over the place every day for a week, & my first husband father of Mrs. [654]] would come to me & tell me just where it was. What I can’t see, is if she could tell me it was there and how much & etc., WHY she could not tell me FIRST where it was. There is where I lose faith in those things. Still I know during the war when Selma fell. There was much money, jewelry, & silver burried. Down the alley back of the old Y.M.C.A. several years ago, two men found an iron pot with money in. An old colored woman that worked for me 12 years was a child of 9 years when Selma fell. She has often told me of seeing the people from up town bringing things out here to burry. Some in buggies some in carts & wheel barrows and every way, & of seeing the soldiers riding through the streets some with arms, some legs, & heads cut off just hanging in the saddle & the horses running every way, like wild. No one could ever forget the awfulness of it. So I thought it may be possible there is a treasure there burried at that time. She seemed to be so positive I would be shown & would be sure to get it. I complied with her directions but have had no results. Now I believe YOU could locate it if its there, and it sure would be a Christian act if you could, for then I could get out of this climate and could do many things I would love to do for others. Am I asking to much, if so, please don’t hesitate to tell me. I have no money to spend but if you could locate it & I should find it I sure WOULD make it worth your time & effort.
Best wishes [949]
R4. 5/27/38 EC’s ltr. to Mrs. [979]:
Dear Mrs. [979];-
Have yours of 22nd - always glad to hear from you, sorry to hear that you do not feel that the Selma climate agrees with you, especially under the circumstances - I feel Mrs. [979] from the information given, if you get or have the thought that the climate is detrimental, why it goes a long ways in making it disagreeable to you - there are then those things that will or should make the adjustments in your system, so that the Malaria will not affect you - once remember the reading saying “prayer is ineffective in a quinine conscience [consciousness?]”.
Yes, seems there has been a constant inclination to belittle East Selma and there are a lot of places worse am sure, even in Selma.
Three sixes 666] is fine if you keep the eliminations going well - but will eventually work a hardship unless you - Have you ever tried Laxative-bromo Quinine. That taken regularly until the system is thoroughly cleansed is excelent for an condition that arises from a Malarial tendency. Think you would find it worth a try. Well there are a lot of things that might be worse than seperation - but [286] was to me always such a lovely person cant see why some one that had the oportunity wouldnt appreciate her real worth - please remember me to her very kindly
You know will be glad to try and help any way posible - if you do not feel as well as you think you should.
Now - about the reading for buried treasure - would like very much to try and help - but do not feel from experiences that with me much information is very satisfactory, I believe, (posibly am fooling my self that I know) such information must come from sources very close the earth - and is harmful to one who is trying to use the true spiritual forces - all too often becomes confusing - and is not helpful at all thus becoming harmful from every angle - and have all my work now given to the Physical and spiritual phases of human experience - and just afraid to undertake such not that there is any thing wrong in your obtaining the treasure, for it is your but would be wrong for me to undertake it, if it were to be presented to me - intuitively - would be glad to pass it on to you but afraid couldn’t try it in a reading - so if you will send me a plat of the property will see if get any thing
- but will not be from a reading - just the intuitive force that will at times work - but would not wish any thing for it.
No dont understand - about the lady in Atlanta - but know have had just such experiences - could tell people they must work it out for themselves, and would not give a location at all - yet say it was in such a vacinity - so posibly should understand but cant say that I do.
Do hope you will soon be feeling a whole lot better - and if it is best that you stay in Selma - may it be that you will have the best of health.
Thanks again for your letter, let me hear from you when ever you have chance.
With all good wishes
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
