[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Texas. (Body and enquiring mind. Ques. on material affairs.)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [1097]; this we have had before.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Has the subject [1097] acted wisely in selecting one […] as his business associate in Accounting and Auditing business in …? (A) In considering such an association, especially with the connections, the abilities, the faults as well as virtues of one in such a capacity, it is much like choosing a mate. These conditions as we find of themselves might be questioned but when all conditions are considered as we find this may be worked out to the advantage of all concerned. And then, it may be called a wise choice. There needs, then, to be due consideration given as to the abilities, as to the activities of each; and these considered wisely, and worked, and working together as a unit may make for the success from every angle.
Consider not just how much may be charged for such a service but as to how well, with the abilities of each, such a service can be made for those who will be found to be in the varied phases of their own experience.
Thus may the organization come to be known as one that may not only be relied upon to serve in the varied capacities as set forth in the organization but that may be helpful in counsel, in advice as respecting the varied securities, the varied expanses and liabilities and assets of varied natures that such a capacity offers to the group.
This done, and this considered, as we find, this will make for a very not only unusual but a very much worth while organization.
That there are some weaknesses, some tendencies on the part of […] to indulge in associations and in activities that to [1097] have been questioned is true. But if these are builded as conditions that are as experiences that worry, that create slights, unkind things said and thought, then they will build barriers. But advise and counsel well one with another. For there ARE to […] also shortcomings in [1097]‘s demeanor.
Then counsel oft together. Have definite periods for advisory meetings as one with another. And when there is the forming of policies as respecting the handling of the varied characters of accounts that naturally arise in such a business, adhere to that as is set as the manner of activity and then leave these in their proper sphere.
In [1097]‘s associations there are affiliations in financial circles, as in associations and clubs that are more of the social order of groups; just as in […]‘s associations there are social connections through which many accounts may be created through same being used properly - with the two connections or affiliations being combined in a proper sphere and a manner. Not used as advantageous positions but rather as in a manner where the services of the organization or company can be presented in a way and manner as to be most helpful to all whom the organization or company may solicit or may aid in creating a better environment for contacting firms and groups that they are led to become associated with in their activity.
-
(Q) How should the firm of … & Co., Accountants and Auditors, proceed to advertise their business to insure better results? (A) Along those lines as has been indicated, as well as advertising in that way and manner as is considered to be of an ethical manner for such organizations. Do not stress that individuals may be saved this or that by using this company for the preserving of tax assessments, but rather that the advice and counsel may be had that will be in keeping with that which will enable each and every one to make an accounting, for whom the accounting and checking may be done. And these will make for possibly a little slower method but so much safer, so much more secure, so much more active in a broader, better field of service.
-
(Q) What firm should this auditing firm approach in Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and other large Texas cities in their endeavor to book business for this fall and winter, especially as to Income Tax Returns? (A) In those fields and connections as is grouped with each, [1097], […], in their connections through the very channels or manners as indicated. These then will include, to be sure, any and all institutions and groups or associations or organizations that have not had or do not already have their regular routine for such a service. And included would be many of those institutions that make for such an audit by this organization that they are referred to by state, county and national organizations as worthy of being considered by any organization needing the service of such auditing.
-
(Q) Would it be advantageous for the firm of … & Co. to open a real estate and a rental department in connection with their auditing and accounting business? (A) This may be an outgrowth. And if there is the service given in the various audits or various groups that are of the nature as indicated, this would naturally come as an outgrowth of such an organization. But this would require that ONE of the individuals, preferably […], give practically his entire time to that phase of the service. Hence as we find the preparation or the building up to such would be well, and this begun after the close of the greater part of audits for Income Tax, after March or April of the coming year.
-
(Q) Will it be possible for the said [1097] to sell or trade his home in …, Texas, to an advantage during this fall or winter? (A) This to be sure would depend much upon many circumstances. If the associations that are being made and have been made and will be made are such that this would be advantageous to the rest of the family, then it would be well to consider doing such. If this is changed to work a hardship, would not.
-
(Q) The said [1097] owns a sandy land farm near Joshua, Texas, and has owned same for several years. Is this land a good oil prospect or is it advisable to sell same when a good offer is made? (A) It is good oil prospect, as has been given as respecting this whole district. We would NOT sell same.

Dr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
My dear friend:
I have your letter of the 9th and very much regret to learn that at that time you were not feeling so good in health. I certainly hope by this time you have cause to be in better spirits and are in the prime of health.
Have received the reading, which I should have acknowledged ere this. I believe the same will prove of much advantage and I certainly appreciate your kindness. I trust that I will be in a position at some future date to otherwise demonstrate my appreciation in the way of making a worthwhile contribution to the great cause you are serving and in which you are the prime factor. Certainly your work is marvelous and is most worthy of high recognition financially and otherwise.
However, my dear friend believe me, in saying that I have no finances to speak of at the present time, therefore, am unable to help in this regard as I would like. Have made no real money for the past two years and have just gotten by in making a living. I believe I will accomplish something here in … and am making an earnest effort to that end, but it takes time to build any business where it involves a stranger, friends and acquaintances yet to be made. When the time arrives I want you to know that it is my purpose to contribute something to the great work you are performing for humanity.
I observe that the tropical storm out of the Atlantic has struck at Virginia Beach. Certainly hope it did you and yours no damage and that you are none the worse off.
I experienced one of these storms during Sep’t. 1933 at Harlingen, Texas. It came out of the Gulf and lasted for more than 24 hours, the town of some 10,000 population was all but wiped out and me with it, but I escaped with my life and only a few scratches. Harlingen you know is in the Rio Grande Valley, the fruit belt. I was there at the time working out a busted bank for the Banking Department - never had such an experience in all my life.
Write me when you can. I am always happy to hear from you and want you to know that I am much interested in your general welfare.
Please supply me with friend [257]‘s address and let me know how he is getting along.
With best wishes and personal regards, believe me always,
Your good friend, [1097]
