This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of July, 1929, in accordance with request made by self - [137].

Time of Reading 5:10 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.J.

1. [137]: You will have before you the body of [137], present in this room, and [140] located in Deal Beach, N.J., and conditions surrounding these bodies. You will first give a physical check on [140], then answer the questions I have before me, and then give spiritual counsel and advice to [137].

2. EC: Yes, we have the body and enquiring mind [137], and [140]. These we have had before.

3. Now, regarding the physical conditions as we find with [140], these, in a general way and manner, show some improvements from that as we have had. While there are specific conditions as cause some distress, this, we find, is produced by two conditions that cause uneasiness: One from the condition of the wisdom tooth on the side here, giving distress. The other from worry and anxiety. Were this tooth opened, so that there may be the normal developments for same, we will find this, with the proper anaesthesia for such conditions, or hypnotic conditions for such conditions, will relieve this distress. We would do that. In the general conditions as cause uneasiness, these are necessarily the reflections of experience in a physical reaction, and those conditions as will work for the reaction of physical conditions as related to sympathetic nerve reaction brings better results. Hence anaesthesia, or hypnotic influences through the properties given for the relief of the condition, will bring the desired results.

5. As for the body [137], present, here we find much of that as has been given as to how the intuitive influences for, in, and about the body, may bring in the physical conditions that as is desired for the body. WELL, however, that occasional rest from anxiety of the physical attributes be given, and these are best made on great expanses of water. THESE we would occasionally do. Ready for questions.

6. (Q) Is the tooth bothering [140] the upper or lower wisdom tooth? (A) Upper.

7. (Q) Is Dr. Dekorn a man who will understand how to take care of [140]? (A) He should. He’s very efficient.

8. (Q) Will he know what anaesthesia to use? (A) He will when he examines the conditions here thoroughly. He will find this an impaction that needs attention.

9. (Q) It would be better to fill the tooth than to extract it? (A) Better to fill than extract at present.

10. (Q) In [140]‘s mental condition, how can she be brought more in attunement with the ideas and ideals of the Association? (A) By personal application of the various experiences as come to the body from time to time. That is, as these influences, as are so often about the body, give their expression in physical and mental enforcement to the body, these, applied by self - and it may not be applied by anyone else! - these, applied by self, will bring the better attunement.

11. (Q) How can I help that application? (A) In prayer.

12. (Q) Regarding the suggested water trip for [137], would August 20th be a good day to start, considering business, [140], [143], and all associates? [See 137-124, Par. 5-A again advising the trip.] (A) Good day. [See 9/2/29 ltr. under 137-123 Reports, Par. R1.]

13. (Q) Was that deduction figured out through numerology or its use? (A) Through the astrology WITH numerology.

14. (Q) Can that be developed in the physical on this plane? (A) It may.

15. (Q) In the business of [137] - [900] Brothers, is the trust given Kaufman wise? (A) Wise.

16. (Q) He will not abuse that? (A) Will not abuse that as long as under the influences of these that are counseling and reasoning with this body.

17. (Q) The body [137] has had numerous visions, experiences - some recorded and others unrecorded - one of which was given to [900] and said, “Tell [137] the year book of 1913 has been affirmed.” (A) This, as visioned, is related to those conditions as are in the minds of these individuals as respecting the developments of those interests and conditions for others that are near and dear to each, and, as is seen, as there is the consideration of the contemplated expansion of the efforts in this direction, these refer to the aids as may come from ones that came into the experience of this year, in this way and manner. This one coming - the entity being that one whom the body in its experience counseled with oft, and who was as the father (earthly) and counsellor (spiritually) during the experience of Jude, and in the development of this body there will come into the association of the body, [137], this individual, who, when he comes, will be known to the body as the one who will be able to assist the body and those associated with same in carrying out the continuation of the year book, or the review of the experiences through the psychic field. Then, being forewarned, be prepared when this experience comes to counsel with and be of aid to such an one, and he will be pointed out, even as his brother called him aforetime to the counsel of Him they both defended.

18. (Q) Does this mean - (A) Andrew will call his brother again to the attention of [900], [137], of the experiences of his brother Peter in this period, see?

19. (Q) Is the body Peter living today? (A) Born in 1913.

20. (Q) That is the entity referred to? (A) And will be brought by Andrew to the attention of these entities, as relating to these conditions. [See 311-6 Par. 8-A, 9/19/31. See 341-51, Par. 11-A, 12-A on 4/3/43.]

21. (Q) Is [5767] one of the prophets or disciples of the Master? (A) Bartholomew.

22. (Q) He was Bartholomew? (A) Bartholomew.

23. (Q) Why is my liking for him so marked? (A) On account of those associations that endeared all of the apostles or disciples to this entity Jude in that experience when, through hardships, many gained the better concept of those experiences through which each were passing. As is seen in the present experience, this - or these entities, thrown together under different circumstances, yet each find in the other that confidence that is not wholly understandable to either - yet, were these to read together, even this as is given by the Beloved - “The Father pitieth those that would seek after Him” - or again in “In my Father’s house are many mansions; were it not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place, that where I am ye may be also. Me ye have known, and the way ye know, for I am the way, the truth, and the light. Had ye not known me ye would not have known the Father, but seeing me, in me ye see the Father also. If I go not away the spirit will not come unto you, but I go to the Father, and the spirit will ABIDE with you and bring to your REMEMBERANCE all things whatsoever I have said unto you.” These - this, mine son - and thou wilt see, even in the counsel of thine own hearts, as men, THIS fulfilled in the street, in the market place, or in thine OWN home.

24. (Q) Is this from the Master? (A) Joseph - I, Joseph, would counsel you thus. These, my son, the words of the Master, even as spoken through the Beloved in that of His record. Read them there.

25. (Q) Why is it, Father Joseph, that it seems at times impossible for me to get the counsel from you, that at other times comes so readily? (A) Oft is the reticence, my son, produced by the surroundings, that prevent the gathering close together. As has been given thee, when thou would counsel, draw thyself apart, and there we will commune one with another; for, as the way is opened, and the understanding gained more and more is the spirit made manifest in little everyday affairs among men, even as thou hast been able to know those whom ye counseled with in days of yore - yet in THIS, thine day of strength, give ear and heed to those periods when I come - and when the Master bids, even as here - mine son, mine brother, even as the Father in me was shown in the life thou gavest for the cause in me, even as the study thou madest of the words as written by the ones of old, they become as words of wisdom in the counsel thy words gave to others; so, in this day, know that the spirit is abroad, and when there is cause for that defense as thou so well gave of old, I, thy brother, am with you, will keep you, will guard you, and guide you, and HOLD you by the hand!

26. (Q) May we always be worthy of this guidance and trust! Will it be possible, at any of these instructions of the higher forces, for me to see in physical form either the Master or Joseph? (A) Both will come in the days as are to come, mine son, and you will see the various developments of the various manifestations as will be seen. These are present, ever, in and about you when thou callest on the Lord.

R1. 9/2/29 Mr. [137]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Edgar,

“How amazing become the intricacies of life when one has a desire for understanding, and how that understanding leads to blessings, and guidance far beyond the gift of mere man. I wonder Edgar, if you have by any chance been thinking of me to-night. To-day has been quite a busy day as far as my busy days of vacation are concerned. I was just lying down with very few thoughts in my head. In fact I wanted to rest before dinner, but while lying there I just wanted to write you, it was surely an urge. But then, I always enjoy writing you, even though I don’t do it as often as I should like. You stand as a monument, or model of what man can do when choosing HIS ways and not man’s ways. How well, how nobly, how unselfishly you have stuck to the purpose of it all. Surely Edgar you in this experience have gone far to attain that development to bring you close to that cherished goal, that position of divine immortality of entering the kingdom of God. And yet who are we to judge one another.

“Perhaps Edgar you think your troubles are over. Well a certain kind I am sure are. That is those of petty financial worries and such very, very - yes very, trivial nature. But now at your awakening comes not worries, but surely blessings in the conduct of your activities in answer to that “One Creative Force.” Let us always be strong, never let us allow the smallness, the jealousies, the criticisms and such, of our fellow men upset for a moment, that which we know to be our cause, everybody’s cause. Was it not HIS cause? Together we must all sacrifice, give, help and be charitable with those whom seem to be our judges, but in reality I don’t believe man is our judge. Nor do you, and surely that is what we must remember.

“Please pardon my apparent sermon, but I don’t mean it for such, merely I love to write you in that understanding, that I feel is mutual. Some day Edgar, perhaps if we ever learn anything, we might sit and talk to each other for a stretch of 24 or 48 hours. I could enjoy such a talk with you at all times.

“So much for the attempt at seriousness. Please tell Sugrue (Thomas) I must apologize for not having sent him some attempt at an article but when I left for my trip I was really in a mentally exhausted frame of mind. I just could not get myself to do much. This I know is foolish, but I will give him something for his next even if he does not care to use it.

“When you told me to take this trip you certainly told me right for already I feel so much more like a human being. The crossing was splendid and we met some interesting people.

Paris was dull as most people are away from there in August.

“This is a lovely spot and [140] and I are taking life very simply and restfully. I have an idea for a European trip for all our bunch that I hope someday will materialize. It may take many years as we count time, but what is time, yes, just a change.

“Even if you can’t read this letter, and it bores you, please know how much pleasure it is to write and still more pleasure to receive your letters.

“If you see [900] please tell him we are fine and happy. Give my very best regards to all your family, and all the rest of our associates. As for yourself Edgar, what more can I say than My friend, as ever,” [137].

R2. 9/30/29 EC’s letter to [137]:

Dear [137] -

“I don’t know how to tell you how much I appreciate your letter of the 2nd of September. There very fact that you would take the time to write me is, of course, most pleasing to me - and I wish that I knew some way to tell you just how much I think of it. We have been so very busy I haven’t hardly had time for any correspondence - am even a long way behind with my regular business correspondence. No doubt, if you have had the opportunity to talk with [900], he has told you already about the necessity of that little trip I made the other day, to talk over with the Reading Committee the advisability of making some changes respecting the many requests we have had and are having for business readings. Naturally, with [257]‘s success in this last trade, people whom he has talked to - at any time, anywhere - are made more anxious for information, and many of them become very insistent, to such an extent that it can’t help but worry us all. We have made some appointments for some of them at times, and then have found it necessary to change them on account of the urgent requests from some for physical aid, so we have naturally put ourselves in for a hardship - but our idea is now to discontinue any and all business reading appointments. Of course, unless it is something that has vitally to do with the interest of the Association itself, and where the officers feel and desire the assistance of the Forces in that direction. Of course, that’s the exception - but for general membership coming in, this has been made a rule. Also we are making it in the applications that if the individual expresses the desire to come to the institution for treatment (provided the information suggests that) they will be given preference as to appointments, or if one should come to the institution, who has made application for membership, their reading is to be given at once, and someone else deferred. As we have of course foreseen, we are flooded with requests - many of which we will never be able to take care of, until we are able to have more assistance along that line. I’m very thankful to say that - although I have been so very busy with so many requests, and naturally with the Doctor being ill and away, and with Dr. Berger coming in to help us out, it has made more responsibility - or more people come to me for decisions - but, with it all, I have been able to hold up under it, and the good Lord has been very, very good to me. He has stood by me. I hope I can so conduct my life regarding each and every individual in such a way and manner that He may ever stand by me in all hours, whether in pleasure or in adversity. May I ever be on His side.

“I appreciate more than I know how to tell you, [137], what you say about the little worries that come. To one that has been in the position that I have, through possibly all the days of my life, such a thing sounds as one of the most glorious things that could possibly be - that I wouldn’t have to worry over how to meet the needs of the necessities of life. While I am sure that, if I conduct my life right and gain that consciousness that will so fit me to carry on without letting such things become detrimental in my life, then these things will be taken care of - for, as the Master has said, ‘Take no thought of tomorrow, for the Father knoweth that we have need of these things,’ and these will be supplied if we keep our lives right. I just hope that - with the changes that may come - I may be able to keep in the right path, and to help others - if possible - where I have not heretofore been able to help in that direction.

“I hope that, as soon as you find the opportunity, you will drop in and see us, and see just what is going on, and the little changes that have been made. [900] no doubt has told you about all of those - or, if he hasn’t anything that you would like to know about, when you go over the report (which of course, as you can see, and will see, is becoming bulkier and bulkier), please make a note of it and ask me about it. I, of course, am only human - and am liable to err in many ways, but I believe that my intent and purpose is to do the right thing at any and all times.

“I assure you that Greene [Francis H. Greene, Greene’s School for Boys] certainly appreciated the check that [900] sent down the other day, which I guess he attached on to you without your knowing anything much about - but I believe we have a connection there that will really enable us to carry out some of the plans we have been figuring on in the educational line, better than we would possibly be able to do in any other direction.

“Certainly hope you had a wonderful trip. I’m sure, from what I saw in the office the other day, you came back to a hectic situation. You certainly have beautiful, beautiful offices, and I know you both are proud of them - and justly so.

“Trust you and [140] and the little lady [143] are all feeling fine. Please give them my kindest regards.

“I certainly hope, [137], that you will find the opportunity to sit down and write me more often. I certainly don’t know of anything that I would enjoy more than talking over with you many of the things that we are undertaking, and many of the situations that are arising. It seems to me, more and more, that the Forces themselves are planning a great deal of our work, if we will only remain the channels through which they may operate.

“You know, we have been talking about that property in front of us, that belongs to the government. When the congressman [Menalcus Lankford] who really has charge of that, came in and made himself a member of the Association, joined with us in our work, expressed a desire to have many of his friends become interested and associated with the undertaking, it seemed that something, somewhere, way back, had planned things for us. Don’t you think?

“Have you seen [900]‘s reading [900-453] he got last time he was down? I think it was one of the most beautiful that he has ever had.

“Everything is going along very well. Drop us a line - come to see us when you can. With kindest personal regards and love from all,” Sincerely, Edgar Cayce.
