Born December 13, 1878, in Spencer County, Kentucky, 36 mi. from Louisville. Time of Reading 3:30 to 4:20 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Virginia.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over years from the present - ” - ‘34 - changes - in the mental - ‘27 - anxieties - ‘12 - changes - ” etc., on back to birth date.)

3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called Mrs. [1541].

4. In choosing that to be given from the records as we find them here, there are varied experiences or interpretations that might be indicated. These are chosen with the desire and purpose that this be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling it to understand and interpret in self much of the dreams or visions, and many of the things that have come to pass in the material manifestations that have been questions - that have brought sorrow and gladness; anxieties and assuredness.

5. For, all are a part of the material experience. For each soul enters material manifestations not by chance but purposefully; that the entity may indeed be a manifestation of that choice or ideal concerning spiritual laws, and the advent of Him who IS the way, the truth, the light.

6. Not that this interpretation would intend to intimate any dogma or tenets, but that which IS the ideal should be stressed; not as to a tenet but as a LIVING thing - known and interpreted in the life, in the associations with others, as such.

7. As to urges latent and manifested, - in materiality things ARE in relationships with others because of activities and choices of individuals. So thine own experience, thine own sphere of consciousness is stressed because of that thou hast chosen to do. For, as He gave, “I came not to take away the law, but to fulfill the same.”

8. So in self, as He gave, thou shalt give an account unto thy God for the deeds done in the body. What body? That material, mental or spiritual body. All are one and are subject to their OWN urges. This has been the experience of the entity, as it has analyzed same in the material and mental life of self and those reliant upon the entity for directing the choice through formative years; as well as what the entity has done ABOUT the glorifying rather than the justifying, by and through faith in Him who is the way of life.

9. These urges are given that should be interpreted in the experience and expression:

10. Minimize the faults.

11. As ye would be forgiven, forgive others.

12. Magnify the virtues, for the Lord thy God is a jealous God. So in thy own experience a soft word turneth away wrath, grievous words stirreth up anger.

13. The sowing of the seed of the spirit bringeth peace. The sowing of the seed of strife bringeth contention.

14. The urges latent and manifested from the sojourns in other realms express themselves, then, in the dream, the vision, the hopes, the fears. Those manifested from the sojourns in materiality express themselves in relationships, in awareness, in consciousness, in the relationships through temporal things. All partake of the unison of truth in so far as they are CONSCIOUSLY a part of the entity.

15. Astrologically, we find Mercury, Mars, Venus and Jupiter as the ruling forces.

16. Hence the high mental abilities; the abilities to direct, to teach, to magnify the experiences of others by precept and by example.

17. In Venus we see the love of nature, the love of the beautiful - spiritually manifested; the appreciation of home and its ties, as well as its troubles.

18. We find in Jupiter the universal consciousness to which the entity has gradually grown in its expression in the material plane. Though it may often find material expression in hopes, in faith, these are growths. For, ye grow in grace and in knowledge, and in understanding.

19. Thus that which has been IS, because of the application of truth in relationships to others.

20. As to the appearances, - all may not be here given. For, as has been expressed in the astrological interpretation, growth, development, advancement is a part of the entity’s experience; and much that has been - through some periods in this sojourn - the entity has haply grown beyond, though it may find expression in those with whom the entity may in the present be associated.

21. These are a part of the experience, and the influences that give expressions in the emotions of the body:

22. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, and the present sojourn; during those periods of turmoil when there were the activities in Dearborn.

23. There the entity was engaged rather in that activity which would to the entity today be quite questionable, yet in those periods the entity brought helpful influences to many; those activities in which many of those disappointed, many of those that sought rather the broad than the narrow way, were set again in the way of material and spiritual hopes.

24. For, the entity then was the keeper of the Inn in which most of those stayed who were a part of the dance hall activities.

25. With the periods of turmoils, and the necessity for the evacuation of the fort, the entity with associates and companions crossed into those areas now a part of the land of its present nativity.

26. Then later, with the turmoils arising in the central portion of the dark and bloody land, the entity settled near to what is now Williamsburg and Yorktown.

27. These brought periods of advancement and development for the entity, not only because of its return to nature and the activities in and about same, but because of the associations and the helps the entity made for the settlers during those periods of activity.

28. Then the entity was known as Grace Winslow. The entity gained, lost and gained through those experiences.

29. In the present many of those associations in family, in friends and neighbors, have become a part of the entity’s experience. In many of these the entity has found help; in many of these the entity has found turmoil and wonderment, disappointments and yet blessings.

30. These are a part of the entity’s experience, and yet in the present such has been the greater part of the material associations.

31. Just as from now there may come the greater appreciation of those experiences of the entity in a sojourn before that, in what is a part of the Holy Land - and that land questioning in the present.

32. For, the entity was among those of the group called the holy women, or those that saw, that knew many of the associations with the disciples, the apostles, and the helpful, direct influence of the Master himself.

33. For, the entity then was the mother of Peter’s wife, once healed by the Master himself.

34. Those periods brought to the entity the closer associations through the latter periods of the activity. For, being healed as it were, physically, by the Master himself, the entity’s sojourn in the earth was long and varied, and would make a book in itself.

35. The entity’s ability to write in the present should be manifested, especially in the stories as concerning the life of the Master as might be read by children. For, these the entity would be able to do; as it brought through those experiences the channel through which the early church attracted others; as many lived and drew upon those truths as illustrated by the entity.

36. During that experience the entity had TWO activities; the growing of plants, especially adaptable for the healing of the body, and flowers; and also the ministering to the sick. Not as a nurse, - rather as a comforter. For the entity at periods acted in the capacity as a hired mourner, as was the custom of that period.

37. The name then was Esdrela.

38. In the present, as indicated, - by the attempts and the applying of self in those directions of writing of those things pertaining to the life and teachings of the Master, as to the manner of physical ministration of teachings to the young, there may come much joy, much hope, much pleasure, - yea, much material gain might come to the entity. [See 1541-11, Par. R12.]

39. Before that that entity was in the Egyptian land, during those periods when there were the attempts to spread abroad the activities, when there had been the unison of activities by the choices of those of many lands to bring peace.

40. For, there is no expression of the divine save where peace reigns within the individual, and where that as a united effort may be the part of the experience of a city, a country, a nation. For, all were of one mind, that the glory of the Lord God might be manifested, in all phases of human experience through those periods of activity.

41. It was following the return of the Priest, the unifying of the teachings from Atlantis as well as from Said, Og and On. All of these the entity understood.

42. Hence the ability in the present as the teacher, the instructor, has been and is a part of the experience. For, there the entity was among those who aided in preparing those who were to be emissaries and teachers throughout the the various lands to which they were sent.

43. The name then was It-El-Al.

44. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain, and how:

45. Many fields of service and activity have been opened, have been completed in the entity’s experience.

46. That as it fulfilled in its activities in the Holy Land and in Laodicea, and throughout portions even of Greece - as it journeyed through the periods of activity, now opens itself for practical application - in the abilities latent that have NOT been manifested in this experience.

47. Not of self may it be accomplished, but through trusting and finding in self the answer that “I must be about my Father’s business.”

48. Ready for questions.

49. (Q) Why do I feel such an abhorrence of the Catholic religion, and how may I overcome this? [See 1541-11, Par. R3.] (A) This arises from those periods of the controversy which arose between the followers of Cephas and the Paulites; that made for those changes wrought in the foundation of that first or early group.

Overcome same in giving expression in those manners in which the young will weigh well in their own lives the teachings of the Master, without condemning any - as He, yet requiring that all be sowers in the life journey.

50. (Q) With the aid of my daughter [1548] would it be advisable to enlarge my flower business? (A) Be very well to enlarge, but enlarge more your abilities in writing! There will be more joy, less hardship, more pleasure, and a LOT more money!

51. (Q) Would it be advisable to sell our present home site and build a smaller place? If so, when and through what channels? (A) The regular channels. For, in the next year or year and a half property will be valued much more highly than it will be for many years afterward! [GD’s note: It became a boom area during war years ‘42 - ‘43.]

52. (Q) How have I been associated in the past with my present husband, [2051] and how may I best aid him to meet our material needs? (A) Associations in the experience before this in Dearborn, as well as in the journeys through the varied lands and the settlings in this. Ye upheld him through the experience, though he was not thy husband - until the later settlings in the land of the present nativity. These will be the experiences through which mental, spiritual and material aid and help may be given. In the material aid, - this may be best had by writing.

53. (Q) What past association has brought about the differences between my daughter [1523] and myself, as to our respective opinions and activities? (A) Parallel the experience of these in the various periods and we will find reason sufficient.

54. (Q) What was the name of the Inn in the Dearborn experience? [Question submitted by [1523].] (A) Do you want this, or more of the other experiences?

55. (Q) What have been my past associations with the following, and how may I best aid them in the present: My daughter, [1548]. (A) These may best be found by paralleling the various experiences. The closer association was in the Palestine land. For, THERE we find there were the needs for not only the strengthening in the spiritual imports but as to the purposes for same. Hence more help, more strength may be given in the mental and spiritual than in material or other manners. For, the entity listens but keeps her own opinions!

56. (Q) My son, [2460]. (A) These had best be found by paralleling.

57. (Q) My son, [2385]. (A) These will be found to have been in the experience before this, as well as in others.

58. (Q) My son, [4930]. (A) Most in the Dearborn experience.

59. (Q) What was my past association with my father, […] deceased; and why do I feel he was so much ahead of his time? (A) Closely associated; for he was the younger brother of Peter and Andrew.

60. (Q) Also my [little] daughter […], whose short experience with the family brought so much love, and left our lives so empty upon leaving? (A) The daughter in the Palestine experience, who suffered martyrdom there.

61. We are through for the present.

R3. Daughter [1523]‘s note in re 1541-11, Par. 48-A: “My brother, [2385], married a Catholic, [2336]. Mother was so distressed - said she would rather see her son dead than marry a Catholic. I do not recall many instances in Mother’s life when she was more distressed. Later she became very close to [2336] in many ways, she had to admit that her good points were many, although she never has gotten over the deep feeling of prejudice toward the Catholic religion. This is a characteristic of Mother’s entire family.” [See continuation 1/30/53, Par. R7, and 9/57 note, Par. R9 below.]

R4. 7/26/49 Daughter [1523]‘s letter after visiting her parents, having been away for about a year: “I was somewhat taken back by the change in both [1541] and [2051]. It seems to me that their cross has been tripled in the last years of their life. One prefers to think that it works the other way around, eh? I seem to recall that someone said that [2778] was expected for a visit in … and would be staying with [1541]. She [1541] didn’t mention it to me, but I don’t recall just who did. Interesting the tie-ups. I remember when [2778] had her reading that Mr. Cayce left a perfect opening for further questions on the Dearborn associations, [2778-4] but the tension was so great that no one said anything, remember?”

R5. 4/19/50 Mrs. [1541] and Mr. [2051] celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.

R6. 3/30/51 Letter from [1523] to [2778]: ”…You asked about Mother and Dad - they are fine, in fact, they grow sweeter each day. I had them up for Easter dinner and they stayed thru the afternoon and we talked about reincarnation, etc. For quite a long time now I have been talking to them about passing on, trying to prepare them for the change when it comes and at long last I am beginning to see that they are adjusting themselves, and perhaps just a little, looking forward to their reward for having lived such full and useful lives.

“Dad’s arm bothers him some, so every now and then, I give him rubs, in fact we were up home last night, and I gave him a rub. Also I take care of Mother’s hair for her, and am planning to give her a Toni [permanant] next week. As you know her hair is beautiful…” [Snow white hair]

R7. 1/30/53 Report by daughter [1523] Palestine period]:

Of all the problems my mother has struggled with in this incarnation, perhaps the one dealing with Catholicism has caused the most heartache. When one of my brothers married a Catholic girl, mother remarked that she could face death with less difficulty. Yet this sister-in-law is perhaps more loved that [than] any of the others. Mother has a particular aversion to statues, etc. to the point cringing when she comes upon one unexpectedly in someone’s home. Once Mother and I went to High Mass with my sister-in-law, and mother’s expression was one of a person suffering the tortures of the damned. We have talked about this problem on many occasions, but with little success - as I see it. Having been one of those who followed Paul, and you can imagine that it was “nip and tuck” whenever we get on this subject. While she feels perfectly at home in the Baptist Church - not so with me, and that is the picture of our differences with respect to religion. Deep within, this problem seems to touch an emotional hurt, for the reasoning becomes so distorted that even these teachings of Jesus that she knows and demonstrates so well in so many, many ways - simply fade away, when anything to do with Catholics come into the picture. I have at times wondered if this emotional hurt might not have tied up with the daughter mentioned in the answer to Par. 60-A of her life reading [1541-11].

Another point - most interesting - was the mention of mother as a hired mourner. Once we went to a funeral - rather out of respect for the family of a neighbor. I noticed mother’s expression and was astounded, for she seemed to be suffering greatly in grief of a loss - as may have been expected at the funeral of a family member. I spoke to her about it later and she laughed, saying that she wasn’t in the least aware of feeling grieved.

I have also observed her minister to the sick, both neighbors and family. Her mere presence brings strength and help to all. You can sense the feeling of peace and well being that comes with her, and know instantly when she leaves. As she has grown older her beauty has increased. Naturally, you might say in my eyes, but always there is someone mentioning to me - “how beautiful your mother is.” “I only hope that I can be as beautiful as she when I grow old.” This is part and parcel of her personality, so great is the spiritual which she expresses.

R8. 1/25/57 Daughter’s [1523]‘s report:

“I guess that it might be said that mother got her life reading because of the interest stimulated by me. Further I think it might be said that it has proven helpful because it has helped me to aid her in understanding some of the family problems - relations, etc., that she has had in the past 19 years.

“As to dreams - visions - etc. she never talked much about them and I feel that her life reading was given so late in her life that she found it a bit difficult to change some of the more orthodox-way of thinking that she had or has from her life in the Baptist church - to say nothing of her early environment. The mental changes in her thinking - referred to in ‘34 - would be the broading of her attitude about the many conditions and changes in the lives of her children - (such as divorce, smoking, dancing, etc.). The anxieties in ‘27 would have more to do with conditions that came up in her personal life - it seems there was a blonde that came into the picture - that caused much disturbance with some of the men in the Baptist church - a person in whom my father seemed to take a lively interest.

“Both Mom and Pop have been people who spent much of their social life in the aura of the orthodox - Baptist Church - thereby being rather strict in their views about ‘how one should live their lives’. This would be the background for their social life - up until the time that the children became grown, when they began to branch out - making trips

• etc., with visiting the sick being first on their list - this being one thing they continue to do to this date. Both Mom and Pop - Pop in particular - make it a point to attend funerals. Pop has been known to go to as many as two funerals a day.

“I don’t suppose you would find anyone that has set a better example for others - both young and old - neighbors and family, having given courage and strength to one and all but just living the golden rule. If ever there was anyone who used the ‘soft word’ to turn away wrath - mother has been and is a ‘past master at this’. Perhaps one of the most difficult things for her to deal with - is the Catholic church. Her prejudice in this quarter remains - to this day, although I know she has tried to change her feelings about it

• it is far from changed. This feeling about alcohol is also another thing which has brought her much mental suffering, and one which she has not been able to become detached about. Mother is slow to anger - and I do not recall ever seeing her lose control of her temper. One high in mental abilities - with very high (and sometimes narrow) ideals. When she was 16 - she was teaching, and was known to have been far above average in this ability; one who almost without exception - tries to magnify good in others, by word and example. Her love of nature - her appreciation for home and home ties - is one of her most outstanding virtues. That many have come to her with their troubles - is an understatement. Her feeling about ‘races not mixing’ is a set one - and not likely to change.

“Upon checking the life readings of each of her children - it will be found that they were all in association with her in the Dearborn period. Each one has brought both blessings and disappointments - and some more help than others. She is always doing something that has to do with flowers - both inside and out - and her love of nature is far above average. She has always done quite a bit of dreaming about a home - the building of a home - and told me once that she has planned many homes in her mind’s eye.

“After mother had a life reading she attempted to write - as suggested - but for some reason never seemed to be able to ‘get into the mood’ sufficiently to turn out anything. I urged her in this respect - but when it became something that only pressure was felt - decided to drop it.

“It may or may not be significant - that she learned about the use of plants for healing - that in improving her physical condition - through the suggestions given in physical readings - that she was given various plants - the juices thereof - to heal her body this time.

“Her reaction - thoughts, etc., about the young - being trained this way or that - is something that she has so deeply implanted in her nature - that she cannot detach her thinking sufficiently - to remember that her grandchildren - and the children of her neighbors - are not her direct responsibility - and she frets about it whenever they are around - and she sees that they are not being handled in the manner she feels they should be handled. One of my earliest memories is of mother reading the Bible to us

• as we gathered around her at night before going to bed [refer to an earlier report by me - on her natural bend for ‘appearing to mourn’ yet not really feeling any sorrow at all].

“One of the most outstanding things about mother is her physical and spiritual beauty. Her hair is snow white - cut short and kept curled and looks like a halo. So much love - understanding and tenderness is shown in her expression - that it is an inspiration to be around her. She and Pop are like a couple of kids together - spatting and forgetting, joking and teasing like children.”

R9. 1/14/58 Daughter [1523]‘s letter to Mrs. [2778]:

May I take this opportunity to thank you for the many thoughtful cards and gifts that you have sent mother through the past years. I am sorry too that we did not know just when you would call. We could have arranged to have mother near the phone so that she could talk with you.

She was stricken in September - a very slight stroke really from hypertension, of course. I did not know that she had any such problem until about 2 years ago when she had a nosebleed that we could not stop. I always felt that her problem ran in the other direction - which it did for the most part of her life. Just as soon as it was possible to get her out from under the pills and shots that were being given her by the M.D.’s - she began following the suggestions given in the readings for hypertension. Just one precaution I didn’t take, my foresight being limited. I should have gotten something so that I could take her blood pressure every day or so. That is what I do now. In addition to this Dr. O. M. Wakefield comes upon call and gives her an osteopathic treatment. He can take her blood pressure down to almost normal in a matter of thirty minutes. Just now she is getting about one treatment every two weeks. I had, of course, hoped that she would walk alone again, and there was every indication that she might in the beginning, but now, I too, am beginning to wonder if it will be so. You see, mother was 79 this past December 13th, and a general decrease in health and energy has been taking place - noticeably so for the past five years. Dr. Wakefield told me that her condition was becoming Arteriosclerosis - and that is what we have been treating her for - as outlined by the readings - [as in Case [1187]] that is. It can be said that in many ways she is much better. Her skin - which used to break out - is clear as a bell now - and beautiful - like that of a baby. Every day I bathe and massage her, then dress her for the day and fix her breakfast. [2336] [GD’s note: In Sept. 1957 when Mrs. [1541] was stricken, her son [2385] and his wife [2336] [See 1541-11, Par. R3] came to live with Mrs. [1541] and Mr. [2051].] fixes the other meals - and Pop stays with her through the day. [2336] does all the house work and that includes the washing, etc. I keep her nails fixed and her hair taken care of. These are some of the main things that get done daily. It is the right side that is affected, so her speech is alright. She cannot use her right hand and her arm hurts at times because of the slowed circulation. All and all, she is very blessed, in many, many ways. I know she would love to hear from you from time to time, and I will try to keep you posted as to her progress, if you would like. I must get to work now. Happy New Year to you and yours,

R10. 9/24/58 Daughter [1523]‘s reports:

“For the past three weeks, I have been taking Mother riding each Sat. afternoon. The rides take from 2 to 4 hours, during which time we stop by to visit with people, who come out to the car, so that Mother does not have to make the effort of going up and down steps, etc.

“Last Saturday when she was visiting with a friend - she commented that what she really missed most was ‘being able to write.’ This is particularly interesting in light of the repeated suggestion in her Life Reading [1541-11] that she ‘write stories for children about Jesus’.

“She has sufficient strength to feed herself, but has no grip in her hands. It would seem that the grey-matter in her brain was damaged, thereby making it difficult for her to ‘think’. This is particularly true, when she is confronted with making a decision.

“For the most part her spirits are good, and her patience is such that at times it would seem that she has a definite urge toward martyrdom.

“If it were not for her sense of humor - she would undoubtedly become very depressed.”

R11. 4/23/59 Daughter [1523]‘s report: “Mother and Dad were married fifty-nine years ago today.

“Mother is slowly fading away but her spirit and ability to take joy in daily events - no matter how simple - is remarkable.

“Pop [2051] is getting very discouraged. Staying in all the time does not agree with him - health-wise; yet he won’t make arrangements to have someone in so that he can spend more time away from the house.

“Some time ago - months now - I guess, I had two dreams not too far apart - that Pop [GD’s note: 11/22/62 Mr. [2051] died after a short illness. Mrs. [1541] is still holding her own - not any great difference for better or worse since last report - See under 1541-12 Reports.] would go before mother. It’s hard to tell who is waiting for whom.”

R12. Mrs. [1541]‘s attempts at writing the stories of Jesus for children, during the year following her Life Reading:

STORIES OF JESUS FOR CHILDREN

As will be seen from [1541]‘s Life Reading [1541-11] it was suggested that she write about the life of Jesus for children.

The attached material represents her effort in this direction. Somehow she never felt that she could do this; she only did what is here because of my [her daughter’s] insistence.

The reading referred to or suggested inspirational writing, but I do not feel that she stuck to it long enough for it to fall in that category. However, it is possible that her efforts may be used by someone working on writings about Jesus for children.

Her handwritten pages which follow were composed during the first year after she obtained her Life Reading.

JOHN THE BAPTIST

When this story of the New Testament was written the land of Israel was also called the land of Judea.

The ruler of this land was King Herod who was the first of several Herods who ruled at different times, either all or parts of this land.

Herod was not the highest ruler. Long before this the Romans who lived in Rome had won all the lands around what was called the Great Sea, but we call the Mediterranean now.

The ruler above Herod was known as “Emperor” and tho Herod was king he had to obey the emperor. The emperor’s name was Augustus Ceasar.

This land of Judea where the Jews lived had many, many Jews. Jerusalem was it’s largest city & in this city was the Temple of the Lord which Herod was beginning to build anew. This new temple was to take the place of the old one built by Zerubbabel and was in great need of repair.

There were many other large cities besides Jerusalem: Hebron in the South among the mountains; on the shores of the Great Sea were Joppa, Gaza & Caesarea. In the middle were Shechem, & Samaria; in the north Nazareth & Cana; on the shores of the Sea of Galilee were Liberias, Capernaum & Bethsaida. Far up in the north at the foot of snowy Mt. Hebron was another Caesarea called Caesarea Philippi. So it would not be confused with Caesarea on the Great Sea. It was named for one of Herod’s sons.

During the reign of this King Herod a priest named Zacharias who was righteous keeping all the commandments ordained by the Lord, his wife - Elizabeth daughter of Aaron who also was a very righteous woman. Now these 2 good servants of God were very anxious for a son. While Zacharias was attending his duties burning incense in the temple, an angel appeared standing on the right side of the altar of incense. Zacharias was troubled when he saw him & fear fell upon him, but the angel said “Fear not, thy prayers are heard & you & Elizabeth shall have a son and his name shall be called John.” The angel told Zacharias that his son would be a great blessing to men & bring joy & gladness to Zacharias & Elizabeth. That he would be great in the sight of God & should not drink wine or strong drink & would be filled with the Holy Ghost & would turn many of the children to the Lord their God and would prepare the people for the coming Lord. Zacharias doubted this good news & answer to their prayer. So the angel told Zacharias [that] “because he believed not his words, he would be dumb until this promise had been fulfilled.” After the baby came & they came on the 8th day to circumcise him; they called him Zacharias, after his father. But his mother Elizabeth said “No, he shall be called John” & they objected & said “None of thy kinfolks are called by this name!” & they made signs to Zacharias asking what he would have him called & he asked for a writing table & wrote “His name is John.” And all the people marvelled at his answer. Zacharias’ mouth opened & his tongue was loosened & he began to rejoice & prophecy prophesied?]. This caused the people to wonder & a fear came upon them & all this [these] unusual happenings was told thru all the hill country of Judea.

The people wondered, “What kind of child will this be?” Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost & prophesied that the Lord God had visited & redeemed his people; for now Zacharias believed what the angel had told him about his son, who was to be great in the sight of the Lord & would be filled with the Spirit of the Holy Ghost and prepare the people for the coming of the Lord. Zacharias said to the child “Thou shall [shalt] be called the prophet of the Highest & go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways giving knowledge of salvation with His people.”

Now John the Baptist grew and waxed strong in spirit. He lived in the wilderness and ate locust & wild honey & for clothes wore camel’s hair & a leather girdle about his loins.

John spent years in the wilderness preparing for his work as a forerunner of Jesus our Lord. For we are told in Matt. 3 - Mark 1 that he came as a messenger of God which was a voice of one crying in the wilderness so those who heard might prepare the way of the Lord & make His paths straight. So John did preach baptism of repentance for remission of sins & all the people of Judea and those in Jerusalem were baptized of him in [the] river of Jordan confessing their sins.

John told the people that there was one coming after him who was mightier than he and whose shoes he was not even worthy to untie, & “tho I have baptized with water - this great man would [I] baptize with the Holy Ghost & with fire.”

Jesus now was on the earth, John being only 6 months older than Jesus. Jesus came to John & asked him to baptize Him. At first John objected & said “I have need to be baptized of thee & comest thou to me,” but Jesus told him, “Suffer it to be so now for thus it becometh is to fulfill all righteousness.”

After this John the Baptist rebuked Herod Antipas who was now ruler & a son of Herod the Great, for living such a sinful life - he had put away his wife & married his brother Phillip’s wife. This had made Herod very angry & he had John put in prison. [He] would have put him to death, but he [Herod] was afraid of the multitude, because they knew he [John] was a prophet. While in prison the disciples of Christ visited him & [at] once asked that they go ask Jesus if He was the Messiah that he [John] had prophesied His coming.

Herod gave a birthday party during which the daughter of Herodias danced before him & so pleased him that he promised anything she might ask. Herodias, her mother being angry with John the Baptist for condemning she & Herod, told her daughter to ask for the head of John the Baptist on a waiter. King Herod was very sorry but because he promised he would give her what she asked, he had John the Baptist beheaded, & it was brot & given to the damsels & she brot it to her mother. So John the Baptist finished his work, but his ministry lived on & Jesus said of him “There hath not risen greater than John the Baptist.” [Matt. 12:11]

SUPPLEMENT TO JOHN THE BAPTIST

Honor of introducing Jesus, attracted people, by dress & mode of living that people might come to him & hear his message. Jewish authorities sent committee to ask if he were the promised Messiah. The men were hoping for a leader who would deliver them from bondage. They were thinking more of Rome’s sin against them & not enough of their sin against the Ruler of the Universe.

Great contrast of John & Jesus, as they stood at the river of Jordan. John tall, rugged & stalwart; Jesus - opposite.

THE COMING OF JESUS & HIS EARLY CHILDHOOD

Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea where Mary & Joseph went to be taxed, as Ceasar Augustus commanded every one should be taxed & every one was to return to their own city. Joseph & Mary lived in Nazareth, a city of Galilee. Joseph was kinsman of David, therefore he had to go to the town of Bethlehem which was the “City of David” to be taxed. Many people came to Bethlehem at this time & all the inns were crowded - so Mary & Joseph could not find a place to stay; so finally had to go to a stable for the night. While they were there Jesus was born & they wrapped Him in swaddling clothes & laid Him in a manger.

An angel came to Mary & told her she had found favor with God & had been chosen to be the mother of God’s son who was to be a savior to the people & that His name should be called JESUS. That He shall be great & shall be called the Son of the Highest. Mary was very happy.

While they were there, there were shepherds in that country watching the sheep. An angel came to them & they were frightened because of the light that shone about them. But the angel told them not to fear that he had come to bring them good tidings of great joy; for this very day was born, in the city of David, a savior which is Christ the Lord & they would find Him in a manger wrapped in swaddling clothes & He would bring them joy & peace & comfort & while this angel was talking to them, very suddenly a great number of angels came praising God & saying “Glory to God in the Highest & on earth peace [&] good will to men!” After the angels had gone, the shepherds talked among themselves & said “Let us go now to Bethlehem & see this thing that has come to pass & which these angels have told us about!”

BIRTH & CHILDHOOD OF JESUS

So these shepherds hurried to Bethlehem & found the baby in the manger wrapped in swaddling clothes & when they had seen Him, they departed & told every one what they had been told about this child & all that heard it wondered at what they heard. The shepherds then went back to their flocks rejoicing & praising God for all they had seen & heard. Mary kept all these things in her heart & thot about them.

When this baby was eight days old, He was circumcised & His name called Jesus. Afterwards He was taken to the temple in Jerusalem to be presented to the Lord when He was 40 days old as this was customary for all first born male children.

Now in Jerusalem there lived a very just & devout man named Simeon. Through the Holy Ghost, Simeon had been told he would see Jesus before he died. He was directed by the Spirit to enter the temple while Mary & Joseph were there with the Child Jesus. No doubt Simeon had looked on many children hoping that one of them might be the promised child. When Simeon saw the child he took him in his arms and blessed God and said, “Now let thy servant depart in peace according to Thy word; for mine eyes have seen Thy salvation which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people, a light to lighten the Gentiles & the glory of Thy people, Israel!” Joseph & Mary marvelled at these words, then Simeon said to Mary, His mother, “This child will be the means of many in Israel rising or falling” & we [will] remember the humble fishermen [who] rose to immortal heights & their names [His name] will live as long as time goes on, [while] others who opposed Jesus have long been forgotten. While they were still in the temple, Anna, a prophetess who served in the temple night & day with fastings and prayer came in where Joseph & Mary were and gave thanks unto God and spoke of Jesus to all who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.

It is quite evident that Mary & Joseph remained with the child for sometime in Bethlehem & while the child was there the star still appeared over the town.

Days passed before the other wise men came from the East seeking the child born “King of the Jews” for they had seen His star in the east & wanted to worship this child.

When Herod heard about these things all about the wise men seeking the child, he was very much troubled for he was feared this child might someday take his place. So he called the scribes of all the people & the chief priests & demanded of them that they tell him where Christ would be born. They told him of the prophecy in the Scriptures that this Christ child would be born in Bethlehem of Judea, that He would be a Governor that would rule God’s people Israel.

Now Herod called the wise men to him secretly and asked them at what time the star appeared & told them to go to Bethlehem & search carefully every where until they found the child & when they had found the child, to come & bring him word that he might also come & worship the child.

When Herod finished talking to the wise men they went on their way & lo! The star they saw in the east went before them & stood over where they young child lay.

When they had come into the house, they fell down & worshipped Him, then they opened their treasures of gold, frankincense & myrrh.

Now these wise men had a dream before leaving Bethlehem in which they were warned by God not to return to Herod but go home another way.

After the wise men left, an angel came to Joseph in a dream & told Joseph to take the child & His mother & flee into Egypt and stay there until the angel brought him word because Herod would seek the child to destroy Him. So Joseph arose in the night & fled into Egypt with Mary & the young child.

When the wise men did not return to Herod he knew he was mocked by them. He was very angry & sent out a decree that all children 2 yrs. & younger [according to the time when he had diligently inquired of the wise men] should be put to death & there was a great weeping & mourning for these little children whom Herod had so cruelly put to death.

About 2 yrs. after this, Herod died a very miserable death & the angel again came to Joseph in a dream & told him to go back into Israel for those who sought the child’s life were dead.

When Joseph heard Herod’s son was now king in his father’s place he was afraid to [go] there altho God warned him in a dream he turned aside in parts of Galilee & Joseph lived here in a city called Nazareth. So this baby who was Christ our Savior was called the Nazarene.

Also the scriptures were fulfilled “My son shall be called from Egypt.”

So far as we know, Jesus was a normal boy & led a normal life with Mary & Joseph. He learned the carpenter’s trade and must have eaten simple food & grew in stature, increased in wisdom & favor with God & man. Here He spent 5 years. No doubt He spent much time in the fields & with the flocks that so often He referred to in His teachings.

Every year Mary & Joseph went up to Jerusalem to keep the Passover. When Jesus was twelve, He went up with his parents according to the custom of the feast. When the days of the feast were passed, Mary & Joseph started home with many of their friends & relatives, [when] Jesus turned in J. [Jerusalem?]. Mary & Joseph knew it not [&] after going days longer, they realized Jesus was not with them. At first, they thot He was with some of their kinfolks & acquaintances in His great company, but after searching 3 days decided to return to Jerusalem. And there they found Jesus sitting in the temple in the midst of the doctors, both hearing and asking questions & those who heard Him were astonished at His answers.

When Mary & Joseph saw Him they asked Him why had He done this to them for they had searched for Him every where & were troubled over His absence. Jesus answered them & said, “Why did you seek me? Did you not know that I must be about my father’s business?” [They] did not understand Him, but He came back to Nazareth with them & was subject unto them, but His mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

Jesus grew in stature & increased in wisdom & favor with God & man. Jesus went into Egypt for a short while & then into India & what is now known as Persia. Here He prepared His life for teaching. From Persia He was called to Judea at the death of Joseph & then into Egypt for the completion for the preparation as a teacher.

During part of His stay in Egypt, John the Messenger was with Him.

When Jesus was about 30 years old, He came from Galilee to John to be baptized in the river Jordan.

John who had proclaimed to the people that he was a voice in the wilderness crying, “Prepare ye the way of the Lord!” & who had baptized many, but told the people “That I have indeed baptized you with water but there comes one whom will baptize you with the Holy Spirit, the lachet of whose shoes I am unworthy to loosen.”

When Jesus came to John, John said to Jesus, “I have need to be baptized of You, You come to me” & Jesus said to him, “Suffer it to be so” & Jesus was baptized of John & when He came up out of the water, the heavens opened & the Spirit of God descended upon Him in the form of a dove saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

JESUS TEMPTED

After Jesus was baptized, He was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness & was there for forty days tempted by the devil. In all that time He ate nothing & was very hungry when the devil came to Him & said, “If thou be the Son of Man demand these stones to be made bread,” but Jesus answered him & said, “It is written that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” Then the devil took Him on a high mountain & showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment’s time & told Jesus he had the power to give Him all these and their glory & they would be His - if Jesus would fall down & worship him. But Jesus answered him & said, “Get thee behind Me Satan, for it is written thou shalt worship the Lord thy God & Him only shalt thou serve!” Then Satan brot Him to Jerusalem & set Him on a pinnacle of the temple & said to Jesus, “If thou be the Son of God cast thy self down from here, for it is written He shall give His angels charge over thee to keep lest thou dash thy foot against a stone!” Jesus said, “Thou not tempt the Lord thy God.” After this, the devil left Jesus for a while & the angels came & ministered unto Him. Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee & thru out all the region Jesus became famous. About this time, John was put in prison & Jesus came into Galilee & He brot him the Book of the Prophet, Esaias Isaiah] & began to teach in the synagogues. Then He came to Nazareth where He grew up. As He had always done on the Sabbath, He went into the synagogue to read to the people, & He read where it was written, that “the Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He had anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor & heal the brokenhearted; preach deliverance to the captives, make the blind see & help all those who needed help & comfort.”

Now some came that heard Him, wondered at His gracious words. [Luke 4:22—27]

Then when all the people in the synagogue heard these things they were very angry & rose up & put Him out of the city & led Him up to the edge of the hill where the city was built & were going to throw Him down headlong from this place. But Jesus passed thru the midst of them & went His way. Jesus came down to Capernaum, one of the cities of Galilee & taught them on the Sabbath day & they were astonished at His doctrine & power of His words.

In the synagogue there there was a man who had an evil or unclean spirit & he cried out with a loud voice & disturbed Jesus’ teaching. This evil spirit recognized Jesus & then asked Him if He had come to destroy them, & called Him the Holy One of God. Jesus rebuked him & told him to hold his peace and come out of him. The evil spirit threw the man down & came out, but so violently that he tore the man tho he was not injured seriously. Now Jesus’ fame went out in every place of the country round about.

The people were amazed at His words & the authority & power with which He spoke & was obeyed. Every place in the country around heard of this & Jesus became famous and those who were sick with all kinds of disease came to Him to be healed & He laid his Hands on them & they were made well again. [Luke 6]

After Jesus had healed the man with [the] evil spirit, He left the synagogue on the Sabbath & went into Simon’s house & here He found Simon’s wife’s mother sick with a great fever. Of course they told Jesus about it & Jesus came & took her by the hand & lifted her up, rebuked the fever - immediately it left her & she was well & able to minister unto them. [Matt. 4]

In Mark 1:32, at even when the sun set [which was the end of the Sabbath day], they brot many at the door of Simon’s house because of the fame that had gone out about Jesus and He healed many diseases; some lunatics & some who were possessed with evil spirits. But Jesus healed & would not allow them to speak, but He healed all of them & Jesus healed them far into the night and when it was [day?], He went out into a solitary place & prayed, & people followed Him & begged Him not to depart from them. But He told them He must preach to other cities also, for that He was sent & He preached in the synagogues of Galilee & cast out devils.

There came a leper to Him who knelt down & said to Jesus “If thou wilt, thou can make me clean” & Jesus was moved with compassion & put forth His hand & touched him & “saith unto him, ‘I will; be thou clean,’” & as soon as Jesus had spoken the leper was cleansed. Jesus charged him that he should tell no one, but to go & show himself to the priest; make an offering for his cleansing. But the leper went out & published the good news of his healing far & wide; so that Jesus could not enter the city because of the crowds, but stayed in the desert places preaching & there they came to Him from every quarter.

Again, Jesus entered Capernaum & when it was known, so many people came there was no room to receive them - even at the door & they came bringing a paralytic who was borne on a bed by four friends. So when they saw the crowd, they went up on the roof by the side stairway & took up the tile of the roof & let him down on the couch before Jesus & Jesus seeing their faith said “Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.”

Then the scribes & the Pharisees began to speak & say “Who is that speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive but God alone?” & Jesus knew what they thot in their hearts & said “Why reason ye in your hearts? Is it easier to say ‘Thy sins be forgiven thee’ or to say ‘Rise up & walk!’; but that ye may know that the Son of Man hath power upon earth to forgive sin!” He told the sick man to rise up & take up his couch & go into his house. He immediately arose up before them & departed into his own house of glorifying God and everyone was amazed, & they glorified God & were filled with fear saying, “We have seen strange things today!”

Jesus passed thru the cornfield on the Sabbath day & His disciples plucked ears of corn to eat & the Pharisees said “Why do they on the Sabbath pray that which is unlawful?” & He said, “Sabbath was made for man not man for Sabbath, therefore, the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” And it came to pass as Jesus taught the people, He stood by the Lake of Gennesart or Galilee & He saw two ships standing by the lake. But, the fisherman were on shore washing their nets & He entered one of the ships which was Simon’s & Jesus asked Simon to push out a little way from the shore. He sat down & taught the people [&] when He had finished speaking, He told Simon to launch out into the deep & let down their nets for a draught. But Simon said “We have toiled all night & have caught nothing”; yet Simon said, “At thy word I will let down the net!” When they had done this, they caught so many fish that their net broke. They called their partners in the other ship & they came & there was enough fish to fill both ships until they began to sink.

When Peter saw this, he was very much ashamed of his doubt & fell at Jesus’ feet & said, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man!” For he was astonished & all that were with Him, seeing such a large catch of fish.

James & John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners of Simon were also surprised at the large catch of fishes. Jesus told them not to fear for He would make them fishers of men from now on. As soon as they brot their fishing boats to land, they left them & straight way followed Jesus & became His disciples.

Afterwards Jesus saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of customs for he was a tax collector & Jesus said to Levi, “Follow me!” & he followed Him.

Now Levi made a great feast in his own house & invited his friends & there were many publicans at this feast & Jesus & His disciples were there. The Scribes and the Pharisees murmured against the disciples & asked “Why sitteth your Master with publicans & sinners?” Jesus told them the people who were well or whole didn’t need a physician, but those who were sick. Jesus also told them He came to call the sinners & not the righteous to repentence.

JESUS HEALS THE WITHERED HAND

Jesus again went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day & there was a man there with a withered hand & the people watched Jesus to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath day. Jesus told the man to “Stand forth!” When Jesus asked the people “If it was lawful to [do] good on the Sabbath day or to do evil, to save life or to kill,” but no one answered & Jesus was grieved at the hardness of their hearts, & said to the man, “Stretch forth thine hand!” & the man obeyed & his hand was made well. Then the Pharisees were filled with madness & went out & communed with the Herodians how they might destroy Jesus. [Mark 3, Luke 6]

So Jesus withdrew himself to the sea & a great multitude followed when they heard what Jesus had done. So Jesus asked His disciples that a small ship wait near them for fear the crowds might become too great & press so great that He could not speak to the multitude; for they pressed upon Him because so many wanted to touch him & be healed. Many unclean spirits fell down before Him & said, “Thou art the Son of God!” & they were healed, but Jesus charged them than they should not tell who He was. Jesus went into the mountain & prayed all night & when He came down, He called those out of the crowd - those whom He wanted to be his disciples. He chose 12 that [He] might send forth to preach & He gave them power to heal sickness & to cast out devils.

Now SIMON, he surnamed Peter; JAMES & JOHN, sons of Zebedee surnamed Boanerges which is “sons of thunder.” ANDREW & PHILLIP & BARTHOLOMEW, THOMAS & JAMES, son of Alphaeus; JUDAS - son of James, THADDEUS & SIMON, the Canaanite & Judas Iscariot which betrayed Him.

Then they went into a house & the multitude crowded around, so they couldn’t even eat bread & when His friends heard of Him, they went out & lay hold for they said “He is beside himself” & the scribes said, “He is casting out devils, by the Prince of Devils.” Jesus asked them “How could Satan cast out Satan & a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand?”

While Jesus was discussing this, His mother & brethren came calling for Him & when they told him of it, He answered, “Who is my mother or my brethren?” He looked around Him & said to them “Whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is My brother & My sister & My mother.”

SERMON ON THE MOUNT

Jesus’ fame went out into the land & great multitudes followed Him, & when He saw the multitudes, He went into the mountains & sat down. His disciples came to Him and He taught them the important things of life & the things for which they would be blessed for. Those who were poor in spirit or humble in spirit would inherit the kingdom of heaven & those who were sad would be comforted; & those who were meek would inherit the earth or those who sought to be good & know the things that are right would be filled with righteousness. Jesus told them that those who were merciful to others would also receive mercy & those who are pure in heart that is have pure thots & pure motives shall see God.

Those who were peacemakers would be called children of God & if they were persecuted for doing right of Jesus’ sake, they would be blessed - the kingdom of God would be theirs & if men said evil things about them falsely for Jesus’ sake, they must be happy and rejoice because their reward would be very great - for the prophets before them were persecuted.

Jesus told them they were the salt of the earth & thru them the world would be brot to Jesus’ way of living - they were also the light of the world & must not put their light under a bushel. That is, carry it where the light would not be seen, but live their lives so those who saw their good works would glorify God in heaven.

Jesus told them He had come to fulfill the law & not destroy it & those who would break His laws or commandments would be called the least in the kingdom & whosoever shall do & teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus also told His disciples that unless their goodness was greater than that of the scribes & Pharisees, they should not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus taught them many things. One, was that they must not kill nor be angry with their brother, not to follow the old law which said “an eye for an eye & a tooth for a tooth.” But [to] love their enemies & do good & pray for those who hate you.

Jesus also told them not to pray on the street corners where they could be seen by passers by, but pray in secret & God would reward them openly. Then Jesus told them an example of how to pray by giving them the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus told them “not to lay up treasures on earth where they could be so easily lost or destroyed, but lay up treasures in heaven living a good life & no moth or rust would destroy it.”

Jesus too told His disciples, not to worry about what they were to eat or drink or what they were to wear for if they would just look at the birds; they do not sow or reap, but the heavenly Father feeds them & cares for them & knows if one falls to the ground.

He also told them “to look at the lilies in the field, they do not toil or spin, but Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these and if God did this for the birds & flowers, how much more would He care for His children who are made in his likeness? Their heavenly Father knows just what they need.”

Jesus told His disciples not to judge one another for they would also be judged in the same manner that they passed judgement on others; that they should watch their own faults & not look for faults in others. Also, every good there brings forth good fruit & those trees which bear bad fruit will be destroyed. [Matt. 7]

Jesus told His disciples of a wise man who built his house on a rock & how the winds blew & rains came & fell on this house, but because it had a solid foundation the house stood in this storm [and] was not blown down. But, He also told of a foolish man who built his house on sand & when the storm came & the winds blew & the rains came - this house fell because the foundation was soft & shifting - great was the fall of this house.

When Jesus had finished telling this story, the people were astonished & said “He taught us as one having authority & not as the scribes.”

JESUS & HIS MINISTRY OF HEALING

When Jesus came down from the mountain where he was teaching, a great multitude followed Him & a leper came to Him & said “Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean or well” & Jesus was very sorry for the leper & put forth His hand & immediately the leper was cleansed. Jesus told him to “tell no one,” but to go & tell the Priest & offer a gift that Moses commanded for a testimony unto them. [Matt. 8]

Jesus also healed the centurion’s servant. The centurion came to Jesus & told him how sick his servant was of palsy, Jesus told him [that] He would come & heal him. But the centurion said, “I am not worthy for you to come under my roof, but just speak the word only & my servant shall be healed.” Jesus marvelled at his faith & said “I have not found so great a faith, not even in Israel!” He told the centurion to go his way, that as he believed it would be done unto him & that very hour his servant was healed.

On the Sabbath, Jesus taught in the synagogue & afterwards at Peter’s home where his wife’s mother lay sick of a great fever & Jesus touched her hand & the fever left her & she arose from her bed & ministered unto them. That day when evening came, the people brot many who were sick & also those possessed of the devil & Jesus healed all that were sick.

One of the scribes came to Jesus & told him he would follow Him where ever He went & Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes & the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has no place to lay his head.” Jesus wanted him to know that following Him would not be easy & He must be willing to endure hardships if he was His follower. [Matt. 8]

HEALING THE DEMONICS OF GADARENES

Later Jesus entered into a ship & His disciples with Him. And Jesus said, “Let us go over to the other side,” [and] as they sailed, a great storm came up & their ship filled with water & they were in great danger. Jesus being very tired had gone to sleep on a pillow in the back of the ship & the disciples came to Him & said, “Master, carest thou not that we perish?” Jesus arose & rebuked the wind & said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” The wind ceased & there was a great calm & Jesus asked His disciples why were they afraid, where was their faith? And they were afraid & wondered & said “What manner of man is this? Even the winds & water obey Him!” [Mark 4, Luke 8]

Then the ship reached the other side & they were in the land of the Gadarenes. In this land, a great many swine were kept which was not approved by the Mosaic Law.

In this land were 2 men possessed with an evil spirit & when they saw Jesus, they asked Him to go away & not bother them. They recognized Jesus and called Him Son of God & begged Him not to torment them for Jesus commanded the evil spirit to come out of these men.

These men were very strong & no one had been able to bind them for they broke even the chains that were put upon them. Now these evil spirits were called Legion for there were many of them & they asked Jesus to let them go into the swine, many of which were feeding nearby on the mountainside. Jesus suffered the evil spirits to come out of the men & go into the swine & they ran violently down a steep place into the lake & were drowned in the lake. The men who took care of the swine ran into the city & told everything that had happened to these men who were possessed of the devils.

Then all the whole city came out to meet Jesus. When they saw Him they begged Him to leave their coasts for they were not pleased that Jesus interfered with their business & caused this large herd of about 2000 swine to be destroyed & they saw these men who had been possessed with devils clothed & in their right mind & they were afraid. Then Jesus went into the ship & returned back again. [Mark 6, Luke 8] Now this man who had been healed asked Jesus that He might go with Him, but Jesus would not allow this, but said “Go home & tell your friends what great things the Lord had done for you” & the happy man departed & began to publish in Decapolis how great things had been done for him and all men began to marvel. When Jesus returned, the people were waiting & received him gladly.

When Jesus & His disciples were passing thru a cornfield on the Sabbath day, they were hungry & pulled the corn & ate it. The Pharisees saw them & found fault with Jesus & His disciples & said “they do things that are unlawful” because the Pharisees were very strict about keeping the Sabbath. Jesus asked the Pharisees if they didn’t remember how David & those with him entered the House of God & ate the shew bread which only the priests were supposed to eat. [Matt. 12]

RAISING OF JARIUS’ DAUGHTER & THE WOMAN WHO HAD BEEN ILL 12 YEARS

Jarius was ruler of the synagogue & he came to Jesus & fell down before Him begging Him to come to his house for his daughter of 12 yrs was very ill & lay dying. Now Jesus started to Jarius’ house but a great throng gathered around Him & hindered Him. In this crowd of people a woman who had been ill for 12 yrs & had spent all her living on physician’s & none could heal her; came close enough to Jesus to touch the border of His garment & immediately she was well. Jesus knew at once that healing had gone out from Him & asked “Who touched Me?” Peter & those with Peter said, “Master, the multitude have pressed you. Why ask ‘who touched me?’” Jesus said, “Somebody touched me for I perceive virtue has gone out from Me!” When the woman saw that Jesus knew, she came to Jesus trembling & fell down before Jesus. [She] told Him & all people why she touched Him & how she was healed and Jesus said to her, “Daughter, be of good comfort, thy faith hath made thee whole - go in peace.” While Jesus was yet speaking, there came a man from the ruler of the synagogue saying, “Thy daughter is dead, do not trouble Jesus,” but when Jesus heard the message to the ruler, He answered him and said, “Fear not. Believe only & she shall be made whole.” When Jesus came to the house, He only allowed Peter, James, & John & the father & mother of the maiden to go with Him.

All wept & wailed but Jesus said, “Weep not, she is not dead but sleepeth.” They laughed & made fun of Him for they knew she was dead.

Jesus put them all out & took her by the hand & called to her & said, “Maid arise!” Her spirit came again and she arose & Jesus told them to give her meat & her parents were astonished, but he charged them to tell no one what was done. [Mark 5]

JESUS HEALS THE CENTURION’S SERVANT

After Jesus had given a charge to His disciples, He went into Capernaum & a certain centurion’s servant who was very dear to his master was very ill & when he heard of Jesus, he sent to Him the elders of the Jews begging him to come & heal his servant. When they came to Jesus then told Him how worthy this centurion was, for he loved his nation & had built us a synagogue.

When Jesus came near to the Centurion’s house, the centurion came out & [said], “Lord, do not trouble thyself to enter my house, for I’m not worthy that thou should enter under my roof; neither did I feel I was worthy to come unto thee. But say in a word & my servant will be healed. For I am a man set under authority - having under me, soldiers & I say unto one, ‘Come’ & he comes; another ‘Go’, & he goeth.” Jesus marvelled at him & turned him about & said unto the people that followed him, “I say unto you, I have not found so great a faith in all Israel.”
