[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Miss [1548] and Mrs. [1523]]
Time of Reading 3:40 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Virginia.
-
GC: You will have [1548], present in this room. You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, Miss [1548]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, - taking all conditions in consideration - the activities and the care, under the existent disturbances, - the conditions are good.
-
While there are still indications of affected areas, there are NOT indications of the areas being active.
-
But as we find, - if there would be the adhering - more regularly - to those things suggested; in the use of the Keg as well as the Acigest and the Calcios, - there would be less likelihood of this becoming active, and - as indicated by the fluoroscope - this would be less and less dense in the affected areas.
-
But that the organs, the activity of the tissue through the lung area, the activity of the heart, the trachea, and the whole of the pleura, are clear, indicates that there are not those dangers of the adhesions that so oft come where even the disturbance is stayed - even for a time.
-
Keep those precautions as to not getting the feet wet, as to keeping down too much acid in the system at any time; and these, with those precautions as given, should keep the body toward the improve.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is the morning cough due to bronchitis or active germ? (A) It is neither of these. Let’s understand the condition: When the body is relaxed, as in sleep, there is a rest in all the functioning organs of the body. Oft this is the period when either there will be the recuperative measures or the tearing down; depending upon the activity of the elements assimilated and distributed or carried away as waste during such periods, see?
Then, with a condition such as this, there are the needs that those precautions just indicated be kept more consistently. Then the recuperative forces, and the ability of the system to adjust itself or make those coordinating and cooperative forces, will be nearer normal.
This is the attempt of the system, then, to adjust itself to the new speed of the flow of circulation; causing along the trachea area that of irritation, - just as it may at times from any condition that acts as a waft or a draft or any irritant to an irritated portion of the body.
Then, it is not true bronchitis, - neither is it an active force in disturbed areas; but it is the inability of the system to quickly adjust itself to the new speed of circulation in the body.
The keeping of this more normal, by the inhalation of the fumes that are activative with the healing influences when the properties that have been indicated are taken in the system, will aid in preventing this condition.
- (Q) What causes ache in leg and knee, especially near menstruation time? (A) This is the effect again of the system ADJUSTING itself to activity of organs that DRAIN from the body, see?
Massaging the limbs with Peanut Oil would be good for same; at least four to five days before the Period would be found to be very beneficial.
-
(Q) Is it advisable now to undertake any specific work; if so, what type? (A) Any type of work that does not TIRE the body too easily; but should be as much outdoors as possible.
-
(Q) Please read the last X-Ray, which I hold in my hand. (A) As indicated, we find that this indicates there is not active tissue in the area that HAS been the disturbing center; that there is not ANY adherence in any of the wall of the pleura; that there is a good flow of circulation throughout ALL portions of the lungs themselves save in that one particular area.
-
(Q) Any spiritual advice? (A) Let the activities be in accord with ideals and purposes. And let these ideals and purposes ever be helpfulness to others. For, inasmuch as ye do it to the least, ye do to thy Lord.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/31/42 See her father’s Life Reading, 2051-5, Par. 54-A in re their past associations and the need to stress their agreements rather than differences in the present.
R2. 4/16/42 She referred Mr. [2732] for a Physical Reading.
R3. 7/29/42 Miss [2791] for a Life Reading.
R4. 1/19/43 She married Mr. [2732].
R5. 1/17/44 Her baby niece’s Physical Reading, 2752-3, Par. 14-A, advised that close contact of the baby in the open with her Aunt [1548] would be alright but not in a close, warm place with her Aunt [1548] or anyone else.
R6. 10/15/51 A.R.E. Searchlight article by Lydia J. Schrader Gray, on EDGAR CAYCE - The Man and His Work, reports: “When I was visiting him one day a young lady called. She was the picture of health, vibrant with joy. She had some X-Ray pictures with her, which she wanted him to see.
“After she left, he [Edgar Cayce] told me her story. She was given up to die, by a number of physicians, when she, too, heard of Edgar Cayce and his great powers. She had tuberculosis. Through the readings she was restored to perfect health. Mr. Cayce said to me, ‘It’s cases like this that make my life worth while. They help me to face the laughter and ridicule of the ignorant crowds and the cold smirks of self-satisfied intellectuals.’”
R7. 6/12/52 Sister [1523]‘s reply to questionnaire: “During 1942 my sister [1548] used the Charred Oak Keg mostly on occasions when she had a cold. Her health was pretty good and she was still rather enthusiastic about her progress. At about this time she met Mr. [2732] and was instrumental in getting a reading for him. As suggested in his reading, he took 1 or 2 osteopathic treatments; after that he discredited the value of both the treatments and their source.
“In 1943 my sister married [2732]. By that time she [1548] had discontinued all treatments outlined in her readings. I was very much concerned about her, because I had heard that she and her husband drank occasionally. Financial difficulties gradually developed, and by 1945 she [1548] turned to strenuous outdoor work to help with the income. As the strain of their marital relationship increased, they both resorted more frequently to alcohol. She [1548] became very nervous, irritable and a neurotic.
“In 1947 she had a cyst removed from her rectum. About 2 yrs. later a second operation was performed for the same condition. She became extremely thin and her face looked pale and drawn. Eventually her marriage ended in a separation. And yet none of these hardships caused TB to return.
“Today, while she is still a neurotic addicted to drink, she has nevertheless good resistance; she has gained weight and looks well. I am indeed grateful that, all things considered she is at present still free from tuberculosis.”
R8. 10/60 Miss [1548] reported she began to have an aching in the right groin, and sometimes a painful “catch” in that area. She worried about a possible ovarian cyst and decided to consult Dr. Bentley Byrd (Sr.). (He had previously removed her rectal cyst.) He had a smear test made which turned out negative. After that she disregarded the condition, thinking it unimportant. She would go weeks without any reminder and then suddenly she would feel the aching again, or the “catch”.
R9. 11/6/62 Miss [1548] reported that last summer she began to have constant trouble with her right hip. She walked with a limp and great pain. She went to a diagnostician, Dr. Frank N. Bilisoly, who sent her to a technician for x-ray. A dark spot showed on the x-ray which Dr. Bilisoly thought was a corrosion of the pelvic bone near the hip joint. When she went back for further x-rays (4-5 more) she would hear herself referred to as “the woman with the tubercular cyst”. The last x-ray showed no increase or decrease of the dark spot. Dr. Bilisoly said he thought she had T.B. of the bone but he was not an expert at reading x-rays, and he was going to turn her over to a bone specialist - Dr. John A. Vann. After several visits with Dr. Vann he took her off the expensive medicine which she had been taking under Dr. Bilisoly for 6-8 months and said he thought the x-ray had been misinterpreted, that she had arthritis of the hip bone. He began to use such terms as “traction”, “bone fusion”, etc. She still walked with great difficulty and pain, using a cane, unable to put weight on the right leg. He told her to come back in six months, to take Aspirin when the pain was severe.
R10. 2/19/64 Miss [1548] reported that she had been going to Dr. O. M. Wakefield, Osteopath, for about a year now and that he had helped her a great deal. “Besides his osteopathic treatments he is now giving me the third course (since last summer) of a new drug for arthritis called Bulazolidin.” She can now walk with very little limp, without a cane, and only has slight pain at times when the weather is bad. She feels very encouraged.
R11. 11/29/67 Sister [1523]‘s report:
“[1548] and I think that we have determined what her health problem is!
“After having been to several doctors, with all kinds of tests, and X-rays, we have come to the following conclusion which has no connection with the diagnosis made by any of the doctors.
“Years ago [1548] had an operation for a rectal abscess. This seems to have left a pocket in which fecal matter catches and packs.
“Some time ago she began taking castor oil packs followed by colonics. This was sort of a last resort idea, and since she would develop a pain in the groin, I also suggested that she use the Laudanum and aconite applied to the groin area (for the pain) before applying the Castor Oil Pack. Her improvement was so marked that she has been repeating this - each time the pain and lameness in her leg - returned. Since we know that this is the problem now - and not the T.B. of the bone or arthritis - as had been diagnosed by the M.D.’s - We will set up a system of taking the packs and colonics AND osteopathic treatments in cycles.
“I consider this a most interesting development considering her history, and a wonderful report on the use of the packs and colonics, together with osteopathy.
“I would also like to report that her mental attitude is remarkable improved. This has been coming about gradually during the past year and one half.
“The working out of our karma is now moved into the positive stream. Thank God!” [See 1523-11, Par. 27-A.]

R13. 7/2/71 Sister [1523] reported:
“Previous to beginning treatment, the leg muscles were beginning to atrophy. Treatment as outlined in Rdg. 716-2 commenced in the spring of 1970 was followed exactly as outlined. After repeating the tr. twice her legs looked ‘like mine’! This I am sure was of great assistance to her in that it helped greatly to prepare her for her trip to the Boston hospital in November, 1970.
“She had both hip joints replaced in two separate operations in Boston. She has now long since returned home and though she is still on crutches, her legs are very strong, the muscles rebuilt - like a miracle, really.
“Dr. Roderick Turner performed both operations and I understand he is very famous for this type of operation. He is with the Boston Orthopedic Association.”
