[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 4:05 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.J.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions which have been submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes.
-
As we find, there continues to be periods when there is a great deal, or apparently a great deal of improvement in the general physical forces of the body, - and periods when there is the lapsing again into those disturbing influences and forces that make for greater irritation, the lack of animation, the influences when apparently there is less coordination between the mental and physical forces of the body.
-
Yet as we find, there IS a greater improvement, gradually.
-
Rather than there being the daily use of enemas, we find that the use of colonic irrigations - every two or three days - would make for the greater response, and bring about a great deal better conditions for the body.
-
The general activities in EVERY manner need to be more those to create better and greater confidences, as it were, between those who would administer helpful forces for the body AND the body itself.
-
The use of the Gold for the body will be inclined to make for better coordination between the mental AND the active physical forces of the body.
-
These then we would do.
-
And we would keep the general suggestions that have been given, - as to administrations, as to diet, as to those suggestive forces and treatments for the body, in line with those things given.
-
The greater change would be, - not so many enemas but MORE of the colonic irrigations to remove the poisons from the colon area.
-
Of course, a vegetable laxative rather than a mineral would be more helpful for this body, - as those combinations in which the active principle is senna, - such as in Castoria or Syrup of Figs and the like. These will be better as the eliminants.
-
But when the colonics are given, be sure these are body-temperature, no colder and not much or any hotter; and that there IS an antiseptic used with same, - the agar or Petrolagar as we find would be the MOST helpful for this particular body; about three tablespoonsful of this stirred in the last quart or two quarts of water used AFTER the irrigation has been given, see?
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Has the present nurse, […], a helpful disposition and attitude toward this patient - (A) (Interrupting) This is rather antagonistic, and could be replaced by one more in SYMPATHY with not only the administrations but the needs of this body.
There must be (those that would minister) more love, - as has been indicated throughout, - and not routine or rote for any application.
-
(Q) Would it be possible and better for the patient for the daughter, […], with the aid of the colored maid, [2714], [who has been with us for 17 years and whom she dearly loves] to take charge without aid of a nurse? (A) This would be VERY well, IF there is HERE kept the close cooperation with Taylor.
-
(Q) How do you find her mind in relation to the body? (A) As indicated, there are periods when there is more elasticity, as it might be said to those at-variances that have existed and still, of course, do exist.
We would do these and follow these for the present.
- We are through with this Reading.

R1. 3/18/39 EC’s letter to Mr. [1561]:
“Do hope the suggestions for Mrs. [1553] will help at this time. Was very nice of Dr. Taylor and Mrs. […] to send in questions also and from what they tell me, possibly theirs were answered and not all of yours, but do hope there is enough to help at this time.
“Am sure it is a problem to all to know just what to do or ask at times am very sure each experience is for our own good - and as mind is the way - just as HE in the Godhead represents mind in the physical. So we are to seek to make our minds one with His and too are to do something about it
- not merely passive but an active mind - as said of Him, ‘He went about doing good’ so are we yet - saying and acting that way - ‘Thy will be done in and through us’ - using every method to relieve where possible - as did HE. For each experience is a lesson for us - and we either learn it or don’t - and am persuaded there is nothing in heaven or hell may keep us from the Love of the Father - but ourselves. Ask and ye shall receive.
“Yes, only as we empty our selves of darkness - which is usually ourselves - can there be light in our minds and hearts. For He withholds no good thing from those who Love the Lord.
“And as you say thus one may argue with ones self - but we must learn - truth needs no justification - only glorification in the acts we do each day - that the test of ourselves - our tenets and all.
“Just hope we have helped. Will appreciate a line as you get started on the suggestions again.
“With love and all good wishes,”
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R2. 4/29/39 Dr. Taylor’s letter to EC:
“It was a great pleasure for me and the friends with me to hear you speak the other night. I shall remember many things you said for the rest of my life as they made a deep impression.
“As to Mrs. [1553]‘s condition, I believe when the reading is made you will discover an improved coordination between the mental and physical as I can detect the change from confusion, mentally to a certain order and alertness which heretofore did not exist.
“She is often uncomfortable from retention as one of our chief difficulties with her has been constipation, and while she is constipated, of course, she is physically uncomfortable and irritable.
“The last reading recommended colonic irrigation and less enemas which we are following. However Mrs. […], who gives the irrigation finds there is so much resistance while giving same that the results are little or none most of the time.
“Sometimes enemas bring results if a cathartic is used, however the Castoria or syrup of figs seems to be of little use in causing a satisfactory bowel movement. (Now for questions.)
(1) Are the colonic irrigations being properly administered? (2) How often should they be given? (3) Should enemas be given? How often?
“It has been my purpose to follow your directions exactly as given and expect to continue in the same manner as I can see beneficial results obtained through patience in this case.
“If you can be explicit in the reading concerning intestinal cleansing as to method and frequency I am sure it will clear up certain things in the mind of Mrs. […] that have tended to be confusing because of interpretation, heretofore. Thank you and best wishes to you and yours in this wonderful work you are carrying on for humanity.”
Sincerely, W. D. Taylor
R3. 4/30/39 Questions submitted by daughter:
- What improvement?
- What can we do for constipation as to enemas, colonics, pills and laxatives? (We average 2 pills either Cascara, Theloin, Alaphen and an enema and mineral oil each day. We tried tapering off and got into trouble. At that time we tried 1 tablespoon Castoria as suggested each day - no results - perhaps it was due to the fact that we had skipped in giving the pills and gotten into difficulty. This constipation has been her great trouble many many years.)
- The rub with oils on back she now takes well: 1/2 hour
- often going to sleep. The rubbing of the limbs: please explain how long and HOW.
- Are we at last carrying out gold & B Battery treatment correctly for the last few days?
- Please explain clearly suggestive mental treatments. What suggestions should be made and how - by the Doctor or by those taking care of her?
- She often still has difficulty at the end of the day in swallowing. It goes down but doesn’t seem to go all the way. Can we do anything to help this?
- Are we carrying out your directions correctly? If not please explain clearly.
R4. 4/30/39 [1561]‘s letter to HLC:
Inclosed questions by […] - believe Dr. Taylor has also written questions. We have no copy of his.
“Seems to me the constipation problem is greatest now!? Seems most impossible to keep the tracts clear. So, as […] says, she tries enemas, irrigations & laxatives - enemas & or irrigations don’t seem to do enough, nor does castoria or cascara between times or along with enemas & irrigations - thus, resort to stronger? pills.
“A life long chronic condition is surely difficult to antidote! So - WISH - WISH - full and clear instructions might be had regarding what should be done & what should not be done - hourly? - daily? weekly? Re - gold solution & battery. Why Taylor ceased gold solution I know not. We have resumed this daily & stopped his machine. I took the machine down to Warren St. & the ‘chief’ [Abraham Edelman] explained in detail. [Photobell Corporation?] Also installed a new battery -
“IMPORTANT
“He explained that he had sold some 200 such sets & that to avoid burns or blisters they always covered the electrodes with cloth - such as 3 or 4 layers of gauze - one layer of ‘duck’ such as from a man’s pair of duck pants! & this cloth (or thin pad) should be wet with salt water & THUS the current is distributed through entire surface of electrode - otherwise - an uneven edge - a projection - an unnoticeable ‘burr’ would concentrate all current to that wee point & burn or blister - Even a wrinkle in cloth would do so - So with gauze pads on both copper & nickle electrodes, the current is amply felt & no burn or blister - a rosy hue fast disappears & we hope we have the answer. - Too - we turn the left hand dial - slowly - clear on & touching right hand dial - this latter raises vibration (& meter) as high as can be taken! Also - I hooked up batter at 22 1/2 v. instead of 45 v. & will change to 45 if required by ‘reading’ or experience.
“Don’t believe ‘Dr.’ knows any more about ‘suggestions’ than I do about Chinese. So ‘hope’ for clarity of instructions & at length.”
Love to all, [1561]
