This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of July, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1561], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:30 to 12:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time.

1. GC: You will have before you Mr. [2246] and adopted son, present in this room, together with their interest in Carmerson Corporation which owns and holds leases on some three thousand acres of property located in Smith County, Texas, midway between Big Sandy in Upshur County and Winona in Smith County with the Sabine River forming the Northern boundary of this property. On the south central portion of this property a well has been drilled known as the Carolyn Hastings No. 1, to a depth of 4931 feet. You will answer the questions which have been prepared regarding this property and particularly this well, provided that this attunement and the giving of this information will in no way be detrimental to the channel through which this is coming and to those involved. If this may be given now, you will tell us so and answer the questions which follow as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the enquiring mind of Mr. [2246] and adopted son, and those interested in the development of the properties owned by Carmerson Corporation.

3. In giving information of such a nature, many conditions are to be taken into consideration; principally the intent and purpose of individuals engaged in such activities.

4. When there are considerations given as to the sources and the supply of Nature’s Storehouse, and to think or to cause activities in which there are only those of a secular or wholly selfish nature, such become eventually stumblingblocks in the experiences of individuals.

5. And individuals are constantly, in their experiences through any sojourn in the material plane, meeting themselves in associations, in activities.

6. All of these SHOULD be considered.

7. That such in its nature and in its inception is a part of the plan of activity in and among material actions of individuals is PURPOSE.

8. Hence from some angles, some considerations, such would become fanciful to many; ESPECIALLY those that are worldly wise.

9. Yet if there is sought direction through such channels as this, then the activity in keeping with that which is the same cause, the same purpose, the same principles with which such information is fostered, it is then presented.

10. And then same becomes as a helpful experience to all.

11. Hence, as to whether such as might be given is helpful or harmful, depends upon the manner of its application.

12. For when those would seek from a universal source or channel for material gains, they must consider the physical, the mental, the spiritual associations of all.

13. We would give, then, that as we find here - as constructive information. For those that have mentally or materially joined themselves for operations for the search of oil have NOT misplaced their faith or confidence in the holdings.

14. For as we find, these are a portion of a great pool of oil - and gas. Some portions of these particular holdings are more in the formations from which great quantities or great pressures of gas may be expected - greater than the production of oil itself. In others we find greater production of oil, especially in those areas from which another location might be made from that which has already been attempted.

15. Not the fault of the lack of production in this particular area of exploration, but in the manner of handling the sands when reached.

16. And as we find, the producing sands of more than sufficient for commercial values were passed when the deeper sands were encountered. There will be practically a paralleled formation in the location as might be made just to the North but still in the same acreage or holdings, yet in the sands would be encountered more of a combination or a greater depth of the producing sands.

17. In those areas farther - much farther to the North still a greater depth would be necessary. To the West, more gas. To the North - that is, from the location of the Carolyn Hastings well, you see - more oil. This as we find in these depths of location, six hundred to twelve hundred to thirty-six hundred (600 to 1200 to 3600) feet difference in location, following a line towards the Northeastern border, there would be a greater depth by at least seventy to two hundred (70 to 200) feet of the producing sand, see?

18. Ready for questions regarding specific locations.

19. (Q) Can the Carolyn Hastings #1 be made to produce oil or gas in paying quantities and at what depth? (A) It would be necessary to plug off the water and to either ream or use the acid methods at forty-eight fifty-five (4855).

20. (Q) What procedure should be followed to bring in this production? (A) As indicated, plug off the water, see - at the depth indicated in which this first entered. Cement off. Then either ream or set some casing, for those obstructions farther up, and acid or shoot that at the depth indicated in the sand.

This as we find will produce sufficient of oil AND gas to be, as indicated, more than commercial production.

From a thousand to fourteen hundred (1000 to 1400) barrels per day should be in the first flush, with some three to five thousand (3000 to 5000) cubit feet pressure gas.

21. (Q) Please given the best location on this property for another well which would produce oil or gas in paying quantities. Please give this location from the present well. (A) As indicated, go to the North and toward the East. This does not indicate the LACK of production in the Western portion of same. For as indicated this WHOLE area is underlying - or ever a great pool. They rise to the South AND West, and make for a different character - more chalk would be encountered. While more of a different type of sand would be to the West and to the North, but a greater depth of producing sands - more core in sand or the type of sand of larger production.

22. (Q) May a more specific location be given? (A) As just indicated, about six hundred feet (600), see? or toward the North but bearing to the East. This as just indicated does NOT mean that to the West and North is NOT production, but for the better production, or for the SEEKING well - to the North but BEARING to the East, six hundred (600) feet.

23. (Q) At what depth may we expect the greatest quantities of oil in such a well? (A) From forty-five to fifty-five hundred (4500 to 5500) feet.

24. (Q) Will you please give a general survey of the oil stratas underlying this property? (A) This has been indicated, that this whole area - the stratas run - that is, the oil-producing - Northeast Southwest, as a GENERAL structure; though we find - of course - cross structures in many parts of the whole County, see? But drilled deep enough, and with care taken where various characters of disturbances would be encountered with the characters of formation, and water - and properly HANDLED, most any of the Smith county - save in extreme Northwestern portion - would produce oil.

25. (Q) Are there any other suggestions for carrying on or handling this property? (A) It requires tact, yet persistence in the operations of the drilling processes, see? that these be not confiscated by holding both to the Southeast and to the North and East.

CARMERSON CORPORATION owns what was formerly called the Pinehurst Plantation and the Bennett Land comprising 1440 and 400 acres respectively, and holds leases on 1200 acres adjoining easterly - all in Smith County, Texas, midway between Big Sandy in Upshur County and Winona in Smith County. The Sabine River forms the Northern Boundary of the combined tracts.

A well was drilled to the depth of 4931 feet on the North East corner of the Bennet tract - this well passed through a good showing of oil and gas at a depth of 4867 feet, in Woodbine Sand, but was driven through to Salt Water. The principals interested are: [2246], [2091], Charles M. Collier, Edward R. Aranow, Joseph Forbs, CAROLYN B. HASTINGS, Georgia C. Corner.

We are offered a substantial interest if we will provide sufficient capital to protect the titles of these holdings and drill another well.

Would such arrangement be successful and profitable to all concerned - bearing in mind the purpose and “principle” under which participation in or operation of properties containing metals or oil, is contemplated.

Can it be suggested as to what the terms or arrangement of participation should be in fairness to all concerned.

In view of general world and national conditions facing humanity in the immediate future, would this new source of oil supply be useful and profitable to the producers?

Can the best locality for a well on this tract, be described in direction & distance from the well now drilled on the Bennt tract?

To what depth should this be drilled?
