This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of August, 1938, in accordance with request made by Mr. [1561], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time.

1. GC: You will have before you the property owned and leased by the Carmerson Corporation located in Smith County, Texas, midway between Bid Sandy in Upshur County and Winona in Smith County with the Sabine River forming the Northern boundary. On this property in the south central portion there has been drilled what is known as the Carolyn Hastings #1 well. Considering the information given [2246] and […] through this channel on July 30, 1938 you will answer the questions which they have prepared, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the information that has been indicated, as well as the property of the Carmerson Corporation, Smith County, Texas.

3. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) Two new gas distillate wells have been drilled in the area producing from a lower level below 7000 feet, indicating the likelihood of production under our property at this greater depth. If we go deeper in this same hole (the Carolyn Hastings #1), would we strike commercial production and at what depth? (A) As we have indicated, practically all of the area overlies the greater depth production; and varying according to the information in the upper strata. And as some of this in the upper strata in some sections is a seepage from the lower level, gases are indicated of greater quantity in some of the upper levels.

If there would be the drilling to the seven thousand ninety-eight or seven thousand one ninety-eight (7098 or 7198) (this is about the depth of the sand, or a little more), we would find the production.

This, however, must be a consideration of the Corporation that is undertaking same; that it would necessitate, owing to present conditions, there being a quantity of casing set to cut off water before proceeding with drilling - else there would be a destroying of the greater quantities of oil or gas, or even distillated oil and gas in the lower level.

On the other hand, if there is the using of all the appurtenances to the operations in a six hundred foot (600 ft.) removal or a new location, it would not necessitate so much casing for commercial production.

Inasmuch, however, as it would be proof of the valuability of the field for both of the strata from which commercial production may be had - if it is feasible in the operations to use this for the greater depth, do so - for the greater depth test, see?

5. (Q) What would be the quantities and grade of the distillate oil or gas at this lower level? (A) This would be very, very high. This would be at least to fifty-six to eighty or ninety.

6. (Q) Considering all circumstances and conditions surrounding these operations, which of the following procedures would you advise as the next step? (1) Move to the new location given and drill a new well; (2) Drill this Carolyn Hastings #1 to the greater depth; (3) Go back to the suggested level and shoot this Carolyn Hastings #1. (A) As just indicated, this necessarily depends upon the abilities of the Corporation to finance the varied activities. To be sure, to prove - as this is opened - the lower depth would eventually bring the greater value to the whole of the operations, see?

If this is not feasible, and it is feasible to drill in the new location - then that would be second. For this then would not by shooting disturb or make for disturbances to the production in the area.

If this is not feasible, as to finances - or owing to finances, then there may be - as indicated - the cementing off of the water that is in the present hole, and at the depth indicated underream and use the acid test. This will not at first bring the large quantity, but as indicated sufficient for commercial value and proving of the field.

First, then, if feasible - the greater depth.

Second, if feasible - the new location.

Third - use this as it is, with the manner indicated.

And as is, to be sure, feasible, if there is the drilling to the greater depth, and for some cause there would be lack of the obtaining of production - it could still be made producing in the manner for the last indicated.
