Theosophist) This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 25th day of February, 1928, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [1629].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. L. B. Cayce and Thos. B. House.]
Born Nov. 24, 1882, or 1883, Jacuita, Miss. Time of Reading 3:50 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ala.

GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces, giving the conditions that are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth’s plane, giving time, place, and the name, and that in that life which built or retarded the development for the entity, giving the abilities of the present entity and that to which it may attain, and how.
-
EC: (In going back to birth date - “1883” - )
-
We have the body here, and those relations with the universal forces as are latent and exhibited in the present earth’s plane.
-
In entering we find the entity coming under the influence of Uranus, Neptune, Jupiter, Venus, with Mercurian and Mars’ influence in adverse conditions. Hence we find one, without respect to the will’s influence in the life - which in the earth’s plane especially is the developing or retarding influence in the life - one considered mysterious, yet one considered trustworthy.
-
One that has the more ennobling influence, yet seems to ever control by some mysterious unseen uncanny powers to many. This as influences, not as will’s element, has controlled - speaking of the present experience in these directions.
-
One that is gifted rather in the occult forces, and especially in mysticism, as we shall see from the influences as seen in the various spheres and experiences through the earth’s plane.
-
One that often - in wrath and in madness from others - has found both good and bad influences in the life, yet innately each condition has to the entity played an important part towards the proper development of the entity.
-
One that would have made an excellent detective, or plain clothes man; yet the conditions as surround the entity would have brought such changes in the development that many would have been the variations in the study by the entity. Hence much change would have been wrought.
-
One that, in the influence of Jupiter and in Venus - with Uranus - will find, after the forty-sixth year, will bring more changes into the present earthly experiences than has been in the past in the present experience; especially in the way of money, position, power, ability to lead - guide - teach - instruct, or direct others along the line of the occult forces - varying, the entity will find more of mysticism drawing or calling the attention; yet stabilizing self in the influences as will be manifest in the earth’s plane upon those who have had an indwelling through Uranus and Neptune, the entity in the present experience will find stabilized conditions in the study of the occult and its application to the forces in the human life, rather than mysticism as related to the ethereal or the cosmic body.
-
In the variations as are brought by the appearances in the earth’s plane, these we find are varied, and hence physical and mental variations appear to both high and low estate; yet, as given, in the present experience opportunities (as ever come) will be presented to the entity, through which self’s own development may be advanced in the present experience to that of enabling self to assist much in the way and manner of understanding, and to give much to others - and in service to others (as every entity will gain that knowledge) is the development for self.
-
In the appearances, then:
-
In the one before this we find in that of the Roman period, during those periods when much war was being waged by the peoples for possession of lands in and about the country. The entity then a man of power and of physical prowess and physical strength, belittling self much by the use of same in directions that subjugated others to the will of the entity. Losing in such demonstration and such use of power. Gaining in the ability to serve, especially the opposite sex. Hence ever has the entity in the present experience found favor with those of the opposite sex, and ever seemed belittled or to suffer persecution on account of those conditions presented in physical prowess. In the name Juanctao, and the entity gained, lost, gained, lost, through the experience, and - as given - those innate existences as urges and - as conditions present themselves in the present experience.
-
In the one before this we find in that period just before the Prince of Peace came. The entity then among those who were in power in the land in which this took place. Then among the rulers in Herod’s court and among those who carried out the search for the decree as was given for the beheading or the death of the male children in the land, when the cry went up to the powers on high for the weeping in Israel. The entity then in the name Quienllo. The entity lost and gained and lost through this experience, for in the service as rendered gain came. In the exercising of personal gain, through the oppressions brought, the entity lost. Through the ability to have presented that which was truth, and rejecting same for those of power, the entity lost. In the urge as is seen, ever these questions are presenting themselves to the entity for answer as to duty to self, to others, to country, to home, to those whom the entity would serve in any capacity that brings either the necessities of the hour or the necessities of the inner life. These are continual combative within self, and - as seen - may not be answerable until self’s own position is set in the relation of an entity to the creative energy, or to its maker, finding that in that same source through which the entity might have gained knowledge of that relation as presented during that period. Only in that may the entity find the answer to that relation.
-
In the one before this during that period when the divisions arose in the land known as Egypt. The entity then among those who brought about the rejoining of the forces of those that would keep the king and those that would replace the deposed priest. The entity among those, then, that were of the council, and with the ability to coordinate, correlate, and to bring peace out of chaos, as apparently existed in the sensuous sense during that period. The urge then as seen, that of the continuing desire to bring together that which will correlate the various tenets of those that seek to understand the mysteries of the phenomenas of life, and in and through those channels that are being set in motion by those who occupied varied positions in that period will the entity be able to serve mankind and self and the brethren in the best in this experience. In the name Eaael.
-
In the one before this we find in the land when the highest civilization existed in that land known as Atlantis. The entity then among those who preserved the laws of the peoples as relating to the mysteries of the races. Hence the entity lost and gained through that experience, for in the application of same to selfish desire the entity brought destructive forces to self and self’s inner being; yet innately the mysteries of numbers, races, places, shrines, stones, temples, and such, keep the entity - as it were - in innate fear of their meaning. Forget ‘em! and apply rather that in the occult that gives the answer or the study of those same mysteries that will make same applicable to the mind of man as is present in the earth’s plane.
-
As to the abilities, here we find again the entity must first find self and self’s relation to the Creative Energy, or his relation to the Creator, as is established through His Son in the world, and in finding same apply in that same direction as was applied in the experience of bringing the study of man’s relation, man’s application of those relations to his fellow man.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 2/28/28 EC’s letter to [1629]:
My dear Mr. [1629]:
I suppose you have had time to study over the information gotten in the reading. I am wondering if it impresses you as much as it did me. I almost fear to express my feeling about it for fear I might say too much, but I am in hopes that when you have the opportunity you will write me fully just what you make of it - for I am sure you will have many presentiments concerning that given. Just whether it will be in keeping with how you feel about it, I don’t know. I’m anxious to know.
We have had several requests from Birmingham, and each one that I have written to I have insisted on their keeping in touch with you and of getting to-gether for the study club. In the next day or two - I’ll and you a list of all those that are members of the Association, and I hope that you will get started off real soon.
I haven’t had the opportunity as yet to get the dream reading. I will as soon as I can. We have been exceedingly busy since our return, and so many of the readings have been for emergency cases - and they apparently have come from all over, from Los Angeles to New York, Miami to Chicago. I have several more appointments to make for people in Birmingham, and I expect I’m going to have to be away sometime next week. That will break into things again. As you will notice, your reading was delayed one day, as there was a gentleman who came in who wanted a reading on his son who is in France and HE is leaving for there at a specified time - and we just had to get it that day, and so it goes.
But let me hear from you every chance you have. It certainly was some experience to meet that child in Montgomery [318] - one I’ve thought about a lot, and don’t know yet what to say.
Mrs. Cayce asks to be remembered to Mrs. [4434], the little lady and yourself, and with kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC:GD]

[Letterhead] Kansas City’s New Hotel - The STATS - Twelfth & Wyandotte Sts., Kansas City, Mo.
Birmingham, Ala.
My Dear Mr. Cayce.
I have your most welcome letter of Feby 28th, also rec’d reading the 2/29th, and will say that I have read it over quite a few times, and will read it many more before I can get the meaning, as every sentence, would make a volume if it were ferreted out, and I am going to do my best to solve, and in the mean time I want to hear from you in regard to your interpretation of the reading, and that will help me to solve the problem, I want you to give me just exactly what you think of it, regardless how it may fall, (I would especially like to know if you think that I am the one that was connected in the Circle, as you said before the reading you thought I was) and after I have your version of the reading I will give you mine, would also like to know just what kind of work that I will take up at the change, (that is at the age of 46) and any information that you think will be of help to me.
I note what you say regarding different ones of this City also that you will give me the names later on, I am holding everything together, and working on the class, and will get it formed soon, there is two or three more applications out that will come in soon, and when you receive them, the class will begin to function, I have my reasons for waiting for these people to come in as I want a class that will work, am I right?
When you give [4609] his reading look it over carefully and let me know what you think (he is the crippled musician that I introduced to you, at the Picidilly Restaurant).
I wish that I could talk with you for a few hours, but will have to wait, and hear what you have to say, regarding things, by letter.
Mrs. [4434] and myself send you and Mrs. Cayce the very best wishes.
So awaiting your reply, I am,
Yours very truly, [1629]
R3. 3/17/28 EC’s letter to [1629]:
Dear Mr. [1629]:
I haven’t had time to reply to yours of the 1st as I feel I would like to - for, as you know, I went on a business trip to Chicago - was gone about a week, and have been quite busy since that time getting things rounded back into shape. We have been making a special effort to get sufficient interest and funds to-gether for the beginning of the physical building of the institution. Here’s just hoping we commence real soon.
Now, Mr. [1629], I feel rather a delicacy in trying to give you my interpretation of your reading by letter - for it’s rather a hard thing to do, and we realize each individual gains his own development by being able to apply individually that from the information given within their own selves; for the information must come from the records that have been made by an individual life, or - broadly - through the subconscious being of the individual itself. Of course, that which it tells you about your individuality and personality, you know within yourself better than anyone else can tell you. That which it tells you about how you apply your own reasoning, you can very well understand - and I am sure, if you correlate the experience in former appearances, you readily understand why you vary with others’ opinions, and why you oftentimes allow yourself to be governed by your own inner urge rather than that you have reasoned as being the correct way and manner. You do not care to cause disturbances, yet you have reached that point where your very silence and indifference - as construed by others - causes those very things in the minds of many whom you would assist. There is the particular warning respecting mysticism and symbols, and puts in its place occult reasoning force. Now whether to your own mind that is simply bandying words or not, I don’t know - but I believe there is a great deal of difference, and your warning is to study the laws concerning occult forces and mystic powers, rather than being guided BY such influences without knowing more of the law and the influence of the law.
I am sure, from the information given, you must have been of the inner circle in Egypt, and - as I understand - your greatest development, after your forty-sixth year, will come in teaching and in applying the laws concerning mysticism and occult forces, rather than talking about or blindly applying the force you are conscious of from same. Possibly it may be through your association with that very same circle. I don’t know. That, of course, we can only tell as we study these things as we go along. Apparently, the gentleman whom you interested in this - Mr. [4609] - will be better able to tell you the proper construction to put on the information given than I can; for you must have worked together at this very period. To me, his reading is one of the most wonderful ones we have had. There is more constructive - yet more revolutionary - ideas advanced; that is, from the ordinary line of thought, and I am exceedingly anxious to know what you and he make out of it as you study it over together. If I am not wrong, if you and Mr. [4609] will study the information given each of you - separately and collectively - you two will be able to give us many excellent conclusions from the proper application of occult laws. So I’m mighty anxious to hear from you.
Our meeting in Chicago was quite well attended - but there was a much more varied thought in the group present than there was in the group in Birmingham; yet I feel sure that many connections were made that will be helpful - pro and con.
Miss Davis is sending you the Associate membership in Birmingham, and I hope you all will be able to get started in with this real soon. We have had some very nice letters from several of the people there - practically all seem anxious that the study club get going. You are right in not hurrying it - but don’t wait until they cool off too much.
We are keeping mighty busy, especially when I have so much purely material things to look after as well as trying to keep in touch with those that are seeking through the mental to gain a better understanding of mental and spiritual laws towards material conditions [See [900] series.].
Let us hear frm you whenever you have the opportunity. We would like to be remembered to all the family, and with kindest personal regards, I am,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC:GD]
R4. 5/6/28 “I am studying my reading and am beginning to bring some things through. It is quite a study within itself.”
R5. 6/19/28 He secured a Physical Rdg. for his wife, Mrs. [4434].
R6. 1/12/34 See personal message to him in 281-19, Par. 20-A.
R7. 3/6/38 [1629]‘s letter to EC:
Birmingham, Ala.
Mr. Edgar R. Casey [Cayce]
Dear Mr. Casey. [Cayce]
I suppose that this will surprise you very much, but just the same, I am writing.
I have often wondered just how you and all the folks were and I trust that this will find all enjoying the very best of health, as for my self I have had plenty of things happen to me since I last wrote you.
I have been giving quite a bit of my time to the Occult study, along with astrology, and have had some very good returns, from same, as you know I get quite a delight in helping some one else, and with what knowledge I have and am attaining, I am beginning to do some good, I think.
Now to get down to what I was going to ask you, was just this, first I would like to come to your City, and stay a while, and I just wondered if you thought that with my knowledge, that I could apply same, there? also what would it cost me per month for a room and Eats.
Should it not be asking too much of you, and will not take too much of your valuable time I would like to hear from you saying just what you think of above?
Best wishes to all,
As ever, Your friend, [1629]
R8. 3/9/38 EC’s letter to [1629]:
Dear Mr. [1629]:
Was indeed agreeably surprised to hear from you again, hope you are fine, and that the world has been giving you returns for your efforts in every way desirable. Usually gives us the fruit of what we have and do sow. Physically I have not been so well since Christmas, but feel am gradually getting back on my feet again and hope to be able to keep on doing my best to be of help here and there.
Astrology is a marvelous study, and there is a great deal of good being done am sure in that particular field of study, am sure if you have given any thought much to the subject, you are making headway and doing real good also.
Now as for here - well don’t think Va. Beach its self is large enough to be much good, but Norfolk that I believe is another question, there am sure you would be able to do fine, and as for the expense, think you can make it most any thing you would wish, some very nice Hotels for 1.00 per day and the eats well as most places or would say about the same as Birmingham.
Have thought of you often, and spoken of you many times, will be most happy to see you, and hope you decide to come this way. Am about 18 miles from Norfolk and get in there to a meeting of some kind several times a week as a usual thing.
Mighty glad to hear from you, and hope may be seeing you in the near future.
With all good wishes to you and yours
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
R9. 7/6/38 His wife, [4434], secured emergency Physical for him - see 1629-2.
R10. He died 8/8/38.
R11. GD’s note: Could his manner of suffering and dying (stricture of the esophagus, lung abscess, anemia, stomach trouble) been karmic from his persecutions of others in the Roman and Palestine periods?
R12. 7/16/46 Reply to inquiry by Mrs. [1100] [Notice her derogatory description of him - I think she had incarnations in the above two periods]:
“Yes, both [470] and I knew Mr. [1629]. He was a very small, thin man, not over 5 ft. 6 in. tall, possibly a little shorter, with rather crafty, shifting eyes and a very sallow complexion, eyes and hair dark. He was a shoe salesman, if we remember correctly, and had the reputation of being hard and cruel, especially with his wife. We cannot recall any physical deformity, although he had a small head.”

B1. 2/12/28 [1629]‘s letter to EC, following EC, GC and Morton H. Blumenthal’s visit to B’ham, Ala.:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Va. Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce.
I have been unable to get the class formed yet, as some of the people want to wait until they get a reading, and then will decide if they will join. I have given out some application blanks, and you no doubt will hear from them soon, and then I think that the class will be formed right away, it will be quite hard as you know to get them to begin, but when once started (that is with the right people) it would be very hard for them to quit.
I hope that you and Mrs. Cayce had a pleasant trip, after leaving here, and I suppose that you saw your baby brother [318], I would like to know about this [See 318-2].
I am enclosing the Vision, or Dream, that you asked me to write and send you, so you can let me know results.
I am also enclosing you NY Exchange for $20. Would like to have my life reading as soon as you can give it.
Would like for you to give me any suggestion, that you think would be of benefit to me regarding the forming of the class.
With the very best wishes to your self and Mrs. Cayce, and all that are dear to you.
I am, yours very truly, [1629]
P.S. as I told you Mr. Cayce I am in doubt whether I was born in 1882 or 1883.
The following, came to me in a dream or vision, as you will to call it.
It appeared as though I was walking in and around and on the side of a beautiful stream of water, that was about 100 ft. wide, and was running down a slight decline, (The question came to me. Do you understand the meaning of this? I answered that all humanity followed the line of the least resistance).
I followed the water into a small valley, and then began a slight incline, and arrived to a level place, and there I beheld a white egg, very radiating all around it, I then proceeded up an incline that was some what harder to climb than the first, and on the flat surface I saw the Egg that was half inclined, and showing a finer radiance than the first egg. I then started up a very steep incline hard to climb, and on my arrival at the flat surface, I saw the Egg standing upright, and the most beautiful golden light flowing from it, and as I looked around I could see in all directions, and the golden light was every where that I could see.
I then started the descent, and I saw millions of lights all colors of the Spectere, and all sizes, I walked on down, and then I saw some forms of mist, and further down these forms of mist taken on the shape of humanity, and further down in the valley there appeared numberless humanity, the valley was immense and every thing was very green.
This is as near as I can give it to you in words.
B2. 2/17/28 EC’s letter to [1629]:
Mr. [1629] Birmingham, Ala.
My dear Mr. [1629]:
Just as you promised I found your letter on my desk when I came in. We didn’t get in until Wednesday night the 15th. We stopped by to see the boy, and as I promised I am sending you a copy of the magazine with the article written by him. [HLC’s school magazine?] He is writing under the name he had in one of his former appearances.
In making the Life Reading - you failed to give me the place and the month. Please fill this in on the enclosed card and let me have it back before the 24th, as that is the date we have set for your reading. I’m anxious to get this, for several reasons, as you know.
It would be hard to explain to anyone just what my experience was when I met the child that you speak of [318]. I realize we can sometimes draw on our own imagination and because we feel different think the other fellow acts different, but the father and mother had told me they were afraid that the boy wouldn’t have much to do with me as he was rather shy of strangers, but to their amazement - as well as mine - as soon as he saw me he raced right into my arms, and he never left until he was put to bed, or had gone to sleep. Another funny thing, all the other children, and there are three of them besides this boy, call each other brother and sister. He insists on calling each one by name. And there were many other little things that made the circumstances surrounding that most awe inspiring, and - as I have said before - it’s hard to explain just how they make a fellow feel. The funniest thing, the father and mother and all the children have always called me Cayce or Mr. Cayce. As to HOW he knew my name, that we don’t understand, but when they would ask him who I was he would call me by my given name. That none of them could understand. And many other things I could enumerate but I’m afraid I’ll draw on my own imagination, but from this I’m sure you can understand something of how it made me feel.
The dream - we will get that in the first opportunity. We have lots of things piled up on us. As soon as I can get to it I will. [See similarity to EC’s dream had many times [294-62, Par. 7-A] - perhaps he told the B’ham group about it and this brought forth a recalling of Mr. [1629]‘s dream.]
I notice what you say about the study class. In the next day or two I’ll give you a list of those who are already members and who have sent in their applications for membership since I was there - and outline to you some idea of what I think about it. In the meantime, why you can keep them kind of lined up occasionally, for I’m counting on that being one of the real classes - even though some of our friends do object to the work being done in Birmingham.
Be sure and let me have this card back before the 24th, and with kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
