This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this - 22nd day of June, 1943, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [2111], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., through the aunt, Miss [288].

Born June 22, 1938, 5:00 A. M., Vaughan Memorial Hospital, Selma, Alabama. Time of Reading 10:35 to 11:15 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Va.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions that are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane; giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [1635].

3. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them, these we give with the desire and purpose that this may be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling those upon whom the entity depends - or those to whom there has been entrusted the developing of the entity’s abilities (for they are many) - to direct the entity in those channels that it may fill that purpose for which it entered this present sojourn.

4. As for a seal, this would be very good - yet will require some patience in the execution of same. Yet this should be a constant reminder to the entity:

5. There would be a shield, made to stand out from the background of a figured design. The shield would be about six by six and a half (6x6-1/2), upon a background at least ten by twelve (10x12). The background would be covered with the figure of the fleur de lis, about half an inch apart; this giving the background, then of one of the appearances, as we shall see, when there was the greater activity of the entity in a given direction.

6. Upon this shield, then, in the center of this seal, we would put a car - an auto - with the appearance of being out of control. This would be as a warning, - not as a car being wrecked, but out of control - indicated by the expression of those handling same.

7. Upon the upper lefthand corner put a design as of a bunch of flowers - roses.

8. Upon the righthand corner of the shield put a scroll; not too large, and this covered with some design, - as of violets, pinks, or the like.

9. In the bottom of the shield, toward the base, put an open book; this indicating the life’s experience - if sought - in an avocation, or as in making the life for a definite activity.

10. That on the center of the shield would be as the warning respecting wrecks, possibly through car.

11. The styles, or the figures, would indicate also the character of the work, - a designer as of wallpaper, or as an interior decorator.

12. The book indicates the abilities AND the high mental forces that are a part of the entity’s experience.

13. In interpreting the records, then, - these we give with the idea of minimizing faults, magnifying virtues. For we have rather an unusual entity; one that may go far, if the choice is in that direction of making a career, - though, as in warning, there must necessarily be warnings respecting the associations with the opposite sex in the sixteenth to eighteenth year, especially; else there may be regrets on the part of the entity.

14. The urges are indicated in the artistic temperament, as indicated in the seal, towards those directions not exactly of commercial drawing but of design, - as wallpaper, or interior decorating; as we shall see by the activities of the entity in dealing with those things having to do with cloth, or cloth covering. For this may be used also in the interior preparations, or decorations. For, if given the opportunity, these are those channels or courses or sources for the greater outlet of the abilities that are latent and manifested in the experience.

15. Astrologically we find, while very determined in self and one with high mental abilities, the entity is one that can be easily reasoned with. And the entity can be directed or controlled by kindness where it will resent that of scolding or of force, or undue pressure being put upon the activities of the entity in making requirements for this or that activity. These may make for resentments that might cause even changes through those periods of its associations with the opposite sex. For, being fair of body, of mind, and of activity, the entity will be sought by others.

16. Also we find indicated in Venus the material or mental faculties that will be as weaknesses or inclinations toward attraction to those of the opposite sex, as well as being attractive TO the opposite sex; not only in its ability as a companion but as the natural tend or trend.

17. While outdoor sports may be trained as a part of the entity’s experience, we do not find a natural tendency in this direction. It would be well for the health that there be the directing of same while still very young, else such will be far from the inclinations of the entity. Hence such activities as tennis, badminton, swimming, rowing, ball games of any kind - basket ball, handball, - all of these should be the insistency, though not forced upon the entity, for the health’s sake more than for any other reason. These, of course, if followed out, will bring attractions a little later.

18. But do, from the beginning, stress the abilities as the designer, as the decorator, as one making for the fitting of patterns for rooms and the like. For these are in keeping with the astrological urges not only from Mercury, Venus and Jupiter as the benevolent force, but also from Mars - which come as afflictions.

19. Hence where there is anger, the participation in spats or argumentations, - these become very disturbing, and will more and more become disturbing to the entity, for it likes to argue too well itself - at times.

20. As to the appearances in the earth, - these as we find are not at variance to the urges indicated from the astrological aspects. For:

21. Before this the entity was in the household of the Audubons. There the entity was the daughter of its present mother, and not too long-lived in that experience. For, the entity then was destroyed - or met sudden death - in an accident, in a car, or a horse and car.

22. These are latent conditions in the present experience for the entity, then; and warnings must be entertained and kept, not as to keeping the entity from such, but KNOW with whom any traveling is done - else there may be accidents in car or in travel that may make of the body a partial invalid. These are a part of the karma, unless there is kept that law of grace through which karma is NOT an actual experience.

23. Hence there shall be great stress in the unfoldment or development of the entity, upon its trust in DIVINE sources, of its care, of its intent, of its TRUST in those with whom it becomes active - not as to DARING, but as for purpose, as for hope, as for those forces of the divine nature; that the entity in its intent and purpose may be kept in a sound, perfect body to better fulfil its purpose in the earth in its present sojourn.

24. The name then was Macie Audubon.

25. Before that the entity was in the French land, when there were the Louises that made for especial use of the sign or symbol of France, - the fleur de lis.

26. For, there the entity was in association with the court activity; and the entity became not only the designer for the clothing but more especially in the fittings for the homes, for the state, in the preparations for decorations of wall, for hangings, for draperies, for the coverings of chairs, for the preparations of beds.

27. And, as we find, in the present even, the entity often likes to do things ABOUT furnishings in a room - if the opportunity is given; and it will make special coverings and settings for such things.

28. These should be encouraged, these should be - as indicated - the work of the entity in this experience. And the entity should HAVE a career, for it will have it! even if it gets married early, it won’t stay with those conditions until it has a career of some kind or another!

29. Then prepare the entity in those developments. For these are innate, and may be made manifested - by giving the entity the opportunities in those directions.

30. There we find the entity was associated with some of its associates in the present, by its activities in its associations and connections; not as of family but as associates, as of activities in connection with those, - as may be seen by the paralleling of their activities.

31. Then the entity was known as Mademoiselle Rheulicheu; not as a relation of the Cardinal, but near that same name - though a variation in the manner of spelling.

32. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land when there were those of the children of promise leaving the cities of Egypt.

33. The entity was an Egyptian, - not of the people of promise, or of the Jews - as they were even called then, or Hebrews, - but the entity as was favorable to those. For, the closer friend of the entity was the associate of Joshua - who was so ill when they left, or when they were preparing for the leaving, and who died on the way.

34. Then the entity was in the name Shalmahr, and the entity was among those close to those in authority and power in the land. For, the entity’s companion and its associates were in rule over those people, though the entity was favorable - as indicated - to the Jewish or Hebrew women, especially.

35. Again we find the entity was active in decorative lines, especially having to do with boats, and those things having to do with pleasure crafts; as to designs for sails, as for the carvings and some of the dressing-ups of those boats of pleasure.

36. And we will find that the entity will always be wanting to get on a boat to go somewhere! These are a part of the experiences of the entity; wanting to go! and yet, as indicated, be warned as to travel, especially cars - whether automobiles or trains. It will be much safer in a plane!

37. Before that, then, the entity was in also in Egypt; during those periods when there were the preparations for the activities that made for the returning of the Priest to the religious authority or command.

38. The entity then was closely associated with the peoples in the priest’s own household. This brought those activities by the entity in aiding in the preparations for paper, paper making, and linens and linen making; not only from the cotton but from the materials grown in the land.

39. Thus we will find that designs in cloth, those of special weave, - will have a special interest; as there is the development by material practice of the entity in such things.

40. The entity rose to one of authority in those periods.

41. Then the name was Sat-El-Or.

42. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain, and how:

43. As given, the natural tend is towards spiritual life, social life, the commercial life, - in the order named.

44. Then stress these in the developing years of the entity, - being warned in those things indicated.

45. And keep those precepts and those examples before the entity as to keep it in the right way.

47. (Q) What have been the past associations with the following, and what strong points should be cultivated in present associations: The mother, Mrs. [2111]? (A) As indicated.

48. (Q) The stepfather, […]? (A) As we find, more than once were there the associations here. For, as we find, the entity was what might be called the “lady friend” during the experiences in France, to the entity who is now the stepfather. Also there were associations in the earliest Egyptian sojourn.

49. (Q) The uncle, Mr. [641]? (A) Associations in France.

50. (Q) The aunt, Miss [288]? (A) In the activities, we don’t find close associations, but we find INFLUENCES - as in the French, as well as in the experience during the periods of the exodus.

51. (Q) The cousin, young [1208]? (A) In France, AND in the early Egyptian sojourn.

52. (Q) The brother, baby [2892]? (A) As we find, very closely associated in Egypt. That the only experience, as we find.

53. (Q) The grandmother, Mrs. [1187]? (A) In the experience just before this there was an acquaintance, but not closely associated.

54. (Q) For what purpose did the entity enter the present family? (A) For an expression - to give them an opportunity to meet that necessary in those directions indicated for the entity, and for the meeting of much in each.

55. We are through with this Reading.

R1. 6/22/53 Mother [2111]‘s report: “[1635] has developed exactly along the lines indicated in the Life Reading. She is very studious, artistic, sociable, and spiritually inclined. She has always been an honor student. It has been hard for her to get interested in sports, since she’d rather sit home with a book. However, she has tried to make herself learn to play tennis; she does participate in all social activities at school, ball games, dances, and seems to be very popular with both sexes. She is inclined to argue, as the reading said, but realizing the danger she tries to overcome it. She has been working after school and in the summers at an office job, doing mimeographing, filing, etc., and seems to be very good at it.”

R2. 7/10/53 Mrs. B. Allen’s ltr. to the Nat’l Audubon Society:

Dear Madam,

I have asked for help from the Audubon Society on a variety of subjects, but heretofore either on Flora or Fauna. This time it is genealogy. Can you tell me whether Audubon had a young daughter or son who was killed in an accident at an early age? Or, if not, whether any known descendant had such a child?

R3. 7/17/53 A. Clampitt’s reply to Mrs. B. Allen:

Dear Mrs. Allen:

John James Audubon had in addition to the two sons who survived him, two daughters, Rosa and Lucy [See 2111-1

• mother of [1635] - was she Lucy?], both of whom, according to the biography by Francis Hobart Herrick, “died when very young.” This is the sole mention Herrick makes of them, and I have not been able to find any more helpful references elsewhere. Audubon’s younger son, John Woodhouse Audubon, had one child who lived only a day; his other children, and those of his brother Victor Gifford Audubon, all reached maturity. If an accident of any noteworthy sort had been the cause of the deaths of any of these infants, it seems probable that it would have been recorded in some of the books about Audubon; so the inference seems to be that they all died of natural causes.

I am sorry not to be able to give you any more positive information about this, but please let us know whenever there is any other way in which we may help you.

R4. 10/13/58 Mother [2111]‘s report: “Two incarnations of French descent were indicated for [1635], one just before this as Macie Audubon in New Orleans, and one before that in the court of Louis IV as court designer. It is interesting to note that while in her last year of college, [1635] started teaching 2nd year French (after school hours) at the … High School. Some of her high school students in the class were only a year younger than she.

“About a week ago a little group discussion arose regarding the race question, especially the Negroes. [1635] expressed herself very definitely on the subject, saying that she felt more sympathy for the Jews than she did the Negroes, that the Jews had a comparable culture to any highly developed group yet they were discriminated against. She personally knew Jews, she said, who were very superior in development and yet took for granted that they were discriminated against and did not fight back. Referring to her Life Reading I was reminded that [1635] was given an incarnation as an Egyptian during the time of Joshua and had helped the Jews escape.”

R5. 6/7/59 Miss [1635] graduated with honors, having financed herself by doing secretarial work after school and in the summer, in addition to receiving a two-year scholarship. She taught French and English in the public schools for the next two years. Then she decided to go back into the business world.

R6. 1/29/62 She wrote that she had gone into the Civil Service and had become a Claims Representative for the Social Security Administration:

“My job is pretty demanding, but I still like it a great deal. The fact that it involves so much complex and detailed knowledge makes it hard as well as interesting. It’s definitely a challenge.”

R7. 1/23/64 Her mother reported that [1635] was thinking of again studying art as a hobby, since she’d been unable to get the kind of art classes she needed for the interior decorating work, in the college she attended. Now that she has more time and money she might be able to develop it as a hobby.

“She has always been interested in art and her teachers thought she was quite talented. In college she first decided to major in business administration, then changed her major to English. When she was a little girl she was always drawing boats. That seemed interesting in light of the reading mentioning that she’d always be wanting to get on a boat and go somewhere. She has done a lot of traveling. She had to commute great distances while in college, because of her home, part time work, and school being so far apart. She has been driving her own car since she was fifteen and has been very fortunate in not having any serious accidents. [An interesting thing happened when she was about 6-7 years old. One night she was crying in her sleep. When I woke her she said ‘I dreamed that little brother [2892] was run over by a car.’] Perhaps it is because of her spiritual attitude and the ‘law of grace’ is working, as mentioned in her reading. She has stayed close to the Christian principles, though not dogmatic. For a time she was secretary to our local minister.

“Since having more time for recreation she has been trying to do things especially good for her health, such as joining a health club which makes her do the exercises, etc. Since early high school days she has had a tendency to be overweight and has been doctored for a physical problem of underactive thyroid gland. This is probably why the reading warned her about outdoor activities while very young.”

R8. 3/27/67 Her mother reported that in 6/65 Miss [1635] trained for service as a civilian in another branch of government and is now in Defense Supply, an industrial specialist in contract administration. Still travels.

R9. 1/30/72 Miss [1635] requested (and was sent) a copy of her Life Rdg.

R10. 9/17/72 Miss [1635] is going to night school studying law.

R11. 9/29/73 Miss [1635] wrote GD: “It looks as though I’ll be almost a lady of leisure by the time I see you on the 18th, since I have handed in my resignation from my job effective Oct. 5th. I have concluded that it’s too much of a physical, mental, and emotional strain to work full time and to attend law school almost full time. I decided that I had to choose between staying in my secure, well-paying government job or continuing in law school and obtaining new skills for future use. It was a difficult decision, but I feel it’s more important to enjoy life than to make a lot of money - and I would not be happy remaining in the kind of job I have now. Law school, I hope, will give me something to offer which will enable me to help other people while I earn a living for myself. I realize I might never again earn as high a salary as I do now, but I am looking forward to a more relaxed, fulfilling life style. Of course, I’m hoping to move closer to home [in Va.] as soon as I get my law degree.”

R12. 1/27/75 She wrote: “I have never before been so busy and over-committed. This year, I am sure, will make any future ones seem relaxed. I certainly do not expect my future to be so hectic a pace - think I can do a job, civic activities, hobbies, and social things and still have an easier time!”

R13. 10/1/75 GD’s note: I heard that Miss [1635] passed her Virginia bar examination; that she had been offered and accepted a good job in the government at her same rating but doing legal work, liking it very much.

R14. 4/10/76 Miss [1635] told GD: “I am with the Civil Service Commission in personnel management (Privacy Act). I like my work very much except the supervisory part.”
