This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 25th day of July, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1968], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern War Time.

1. GC: You will give the answers to the questions regarding this body, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1968]; this we have had before.

3. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) What is the condition of my thyroid and adrenal glands, and should I continue the Atomidine? (A) These have improved considerably. We would continue the use of the Atomidine, but make the periods of taking same - now - a week farther apart. Then take only for a week, and then wait two or three weeks before it is taken again.

These activities have been to aid the assimilations of the body, and the activity of the glands as related to that assimilated, to maintain the gain from that assimilated and its distribution through the varied circulations in the body, to aid these to carry on their influence. And these are gaining strength, as the strength and virility of the body has gradually improved. These are on the improve.

Do keep, though, more consistently, the head and neck exercise; to maintain a better connection in the upper dorsal and cervical area, of those associations between the centers where the small ganglia between the cerebrospinal and sympathetic systems make closer connection to the organs of the sensory system. For, these will aid the eyes, the speech, the hearing.

Occasionally - once a month should be sufficient - have a thorough, THOROUGH, osteopathic treatment. This does not mean merely going over the body and taking special centers and giving them a stimulation. Rather beginning with the centers or segments in the upper cervicals, gradually stimulate the area; not merely the segment itself but the areas between the segments where the spinal cord and the sympathetics connect - along the specific areas, - as in the 3rd cervical, 2nd and 3rd and 4th dorsal, 9th dorsal, and the whole of the LUMBAR centers.

These will aid in keeping tendencies for better distribution of that assimilated in the lymph and emunctory circulation, and also stimulate the cerebrospinal circulation of both blood supply AND nerve energies; thus keeping the body attuned, keeping the activities for all the organs of the body nearer to their normal reactions.

Also, when such is done, those stimulations given by the relaxing in the centers of the sacral axis should be extended to the bursa of the feet, especially in the heel and in the center of the feet; that is, toward the toes. These will keep the body from feeling the tiresome effects from long standing or sitting, and make for better conditions through the limbs.

5. (Q) Is the growth of superfluous hair on my body caused by thyroid and what would correct it? (A) This, as indicated, is the activity of the thyroid, but with these being purified - the glands - it will grow to be nearer and nearer a normal activity. There are in a human body no activities that are not in keeping with the activity of the whole system as a unit, but these will be aided to keep in a nearer normal condition.

6. (Q) Should I continue the hydrotherapy and massage treatments, and if so, how often? (A) If it is three months apart now, it will be sufficient. Be well to keep occasionally, for this will keep down those tendencies for an acidity - if the osteopathic treatments are given as indicated.

7. (Q) Should I continue the Pine Oil baths and mud packs for the face? (A) These are very well, to keep the complexion better and a better activity of the body.

8. (Q) What causes me to have sore throat and how can this be prevented? (A) These are the natural tendencies from the general activities in the system, the incoordination in the cerebrospinal and sympathetic systems. That is why, as indicated, those special centers in the 3rd cervical, 1st, 2nd and 3rd and 4th dorsal, are to receive special attention when the osteopathic adjustments are made.

9. (Q) What causes me to have cricks in the neck and back? (A) Not particular about keeping out of drafts! These cause such effects because of the sensitiveness to the body and the reflexes from same. But do as indicated. If all of these applications are kept up, better eliminations will be established and these effects will not come about near so easily.

10. (Q) Is it time to have my glasses changed? (A) Not until there has been taken the head and neck exercise for at least several weeks.

11. (Q) Then should I go to Dr. Cosgrove in …? (A) Dr. Cosgrove’s very good.

12. (Q) What is the condition of my wisdom teeth? (A) These are very well.

13. (Q) Sinus? (A) Better.

14. (Q) Is there any special exercise I should take, other than the head and neck exercise? (A) Walking is the best exercise, but don’t take this spasmodically. Have a regular time and do it, rain or shine!

15. (Q) Are there any special foods I should avoid, such as white bread? (A) Avoid too much starch or too much of sweets.

16. (Q) Please give any other information that would be helpful at this time. (A) Keep the body not only in the way of being better physically but better physically FOR a better mental and spiritual purpose. Be purposeful! Expect something! Require much of self in thy relationships to others, to the glory of the Creative Forces! and life will be more worth while.

R1. 9/12/43 (Sunday) Letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I want to tell you again how much I enjoyed seeing you and all your family at Virginia Beach and to thank you for my check physical reading which has been such a help to me. I am trying to carry it out to the letter and I am feeling fine.

It always does me good to come to the beach and to talk to members of the association and be in your home. Also enjoyed your Sunday School class and the Tuesday Night Group. I always feel so “at home” with all of them just as if I belong there. It’s a good feeling and I like it.

Hope all of you are well and happy. Please give my love to Gladys.

Dear [1968]:

I am glad to have yours of the 12th. I hope you will pardon me for not answering, but our mail has become so heavy that my personal letters creep up on me. It was nice to have you here last summer, and I am glad to know that you are feeling much better.

I had a letter from Mrs. [264] the other day. We are having to add 3 or 4 more girls to our staff, but we are so far behind with our letters and every period is taken up for a year.

Thanks a lot and let me hear from you again.

Do write us whenever you find the time.

We had a letter from Hugh Lynn for the first time this morning. He is overseas. Yesterday was Charles Thomas’ birthday.

R3. 10/21/43 Miss [1968]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:- Thank you so much for your letter. It always helps me to hear from you, but I appreciate it even more now that you are so busy and have so many letters to answer.

Please mark me down in your appointment book for a check physical reading for the next opening you have for next year. By then I will need it. Thank you.

Am glad you have heard from Hugh Lynn. I was so surprised to know that he is overseas. I thought about little Charles Thomas on his birthday. Wish I could see him. He is so cute and I know he is a pleasure to you all.

I have started teaching Sunday School again like my reading indicated I should - little girls from 12 to 14 years old and I enjoy it very much. I also keep busy with Red Cross, U.S.O., etc.

Another thing my reading indicated was that the person I will marry I would very likely meet in connection with doing Defense work of some kind. About two months ago at a U.S.O. picnic I met [S…] from Gloucester, Mass. He is 36 years old and a private in the army and was stationed in … but has since been moved to Texas. I had about four dates with him but he writes very often and says I am a good influence on him, which pleases me, of course. He seems to like me a lot and I like him but there are a lot of things about him I don’t like and we are very different (which is probably good for me). All of this is probably too unimportant to even tell you about, and if I ever get real serious about anyone, I would try to get a reading first and see if I was doing the right thing. In the meantime I don’t want to be too hasty about this, especially if I can be a good influence on him. On the other hand, I don’t want to get too interested in the wrong person. So I read my readings again and it said that I would know the right one because he would be a “Son of Faith”. Does that mean a good man who tries to do the will of God? Or is there a deeper meaning than that? Some time when you get time please advise me what you think it means. I guess all of us think our own personal problems are so important and they are to us. Sometime things like this are more important than they seem to be at first and I am very anxious to do the right thing, so I will appreciate your advice at your convenience.

R4. 10/28/43 EC’s letter to Miss [1968]:

Dear [1968]:

Thanks a lot for yours of the 21st. The first opportunity we will have to get a check reading for you is the afternoon of April 24, from 3:30 to 4:30 EWT. I hope this will be in time - maybe by that time, you will want to ask about someone. Or maybe it will all be settled before that time - how about that? I don’t know whether either of you are the whirlwind type or not, are you?

Yes, we were glad to have a letter from Hugh Lynn and Edgar Evans yesterday. Hugh Lynn is somewhere in England. You can sure tell that he is missing his boy. Edgar Evans has never seen his boy and he is now nearly 4 months old. Both of them are growing right along. Charles Thomas is beginning to try to talk. We, of course, think that he is very smart for a year old baby. He should be, for a mother and father as he has.

I am glad to hear that you have taken a class in Sunday School. I wouldn’t mind going to Sunday School myself if you were my teacher.

It is most interesting what you tell me about the young man. He certainly answers to the description given you, even to being a “Son of Faith,” as he is a member of the church. I think this is what it meant. Now whether you should or could let that interfere with what your best judgement would tell you, I do not know. Anyway, don’t forget about what the reading told you.

Let’s just hope that it is all fine and dandy and that you will find in each other that which you would worship in your Maker.

We are very busy here, though we have had four other office girls, we are still many weeks behind with our correspondence.

R5. 11/10/43 Miss [1968]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Thank you for your letter of October 28th giving me an appointment for a check reading on the afternoon of April 24, 1944.

Your letter was very helpful to me, as usual. Your advice was all good but the part that helped me most was the part about “finding that which I would worship in my Maker.” That was just what I needed to make me realize that this boy is not the right one for me, so I am going to forget him and look some more for the right one. No, Sir, I am not the whirlwind type at all and I want to be very careful to make the right choice. Now that you have helped me make my decision, I feel very much better about the whole thing.

I have a feeling that you have already received your one hundred hundred-dollar donations for the Living Sponsorship but I want to have a part in it too because the Association has meant so VERY MUCH to me, so I inclose my check for $100.00.

Hope you are feeling fine and not over-working.

R6. 3/6/44 Miss [1968[‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I was glad to read in a recent bulletin that you have had a nice trip to Florida. I do hope that you had a good time and got a much deserved rest. Hope the fishing was good.

I am getting along fine. There is nothing new to report to you. As soon as there is, I will certainly let you know.

I have given a great deal of thought about my appointments for readings on March 21st and April 24th and since my needs are not as urgent as they have been in the past, I feel that it is only right that I should give up my time for the March appointment, either to someone needing an emergency reading, or as a rest period for you. Then my April appointment, I would like to trade with someone in September. I imagine most any one who has an appointment then would be glad to have it sooner. And by September I will need one. So, if you will cancel my March 21st appointment and postpone my April 24th appointment until some time in September, I will appreciate it.

I realize that you and all your staff are terribly busy and rushed these days, but it must be a great joy to you to know how much good you are doing.

I do think of you and your family and the work every day. Here’s wishing for you, Mr. Cayce, many years of happiness and continued service. If there is ever anything I can do for you, please call on me.

R7. 3/11/44 EC’s letter to Miss [1968]:

Miss [1968] …, Arkansas

Dear Miss [1968]:

I have your letter of the 6th and it is always good to hear from you.

Yes, I had a very nice little trip to Florida and enjoyed it very much. Came home thinking I was feeling fine and about three weeks ago, the whole thing exploded in my face. As one thinks of such things he can blame many things and conditions, yet we know all such things are really within our own selves.

I have been real sick ever since. In fact, went to New York to try to get some special treatments, and got worse instead of better. Finally came home and here I am, such as it is. I am feeling a lot better, and hope that within the next few days to get back to work.

Now about your appointments. It is very lovely of you to want to make these changes to give us even one period for an emergency reading, and we will accept the one of the 21st if you are sure you don’t want to keep that period. We have so many scheduled on every period, I expect it would just be given away to that much of a rest period. If you want to keep it, let us have your questions. We are not going to change the other period for the afternoon of the 24th of April, you can keep that period for yourself.

I appreciate more than I can tell you just how thoughtful and how helpful you want to be.

Hugh Lynn seems to be really enjoying his work in the Army, and from the letters we have had from various families he has visited, he seems to be making a very good impression in England. Charles Thomas is growing like a weed, though he looks like anything but a weed. He is chubby and fat little fellow, like his dad. I don’t believe you have met Edgar Evans wife Katharine. Their baby is big and fat and I think is about to catch up with Charles Thomas.

R8. 4/14/44 (Friday) Miss [1968]‘s letter to GD:

Dear Gladys:

I am inclosing some questions for my check Life Reading which is scheduled for Monday afternoon, April 24th.

I am sending them to you to look over and revise if you can find time. If you think it would be best to just submit these as questions without getting a check reading on the Egyptian period you may do so. Also since I can’t be present for the reading and if anything is brought out that I don’t anticipate, I would appreciate your adding any additional questions that occur to you at the time. After all, you know my case and know how anxious I am to really “get going” on my life’s work. I will appreciate it a lot, Gladys.

I think of you so often and know how busy you are these days and what a wonderful work you are doing. I know it makes you feel good to know what a big part you are playing in all this.

R9. 4/15/44 Miss [1968]‘s letter to EC:

… St, …, Ark.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I do hope you are feeling better now - LOTS BETTER. I have thought of you so much and appreciated your letter of March 11th.

One reason I haven’t written sooner is that Mama (my grandmother who raised me) is very ill. In fact, she has been in a coma for days now and we know it is only a matter of time. She has been a wonderful person and the world is a better place because she has lived in it.

I have written to Gladys in a separate letter and sent her my questions for my reading which is scheduled for Monday Aft, April 24th.

I certainly do APPRECIATE your giving me this time and I do want to say that if you are not feeling well I will understand if you cancel it. However, I do hope you feel fine and are giving your usual readings because I am most anxious to get this one.

Please take care of yourself, Mr. Cayce, and remember me to everyone there.

P.S. One of my boy friends [S…] from out of town came to see me two weeks ago with pretty serious intentions. I tried to tell him about my readings, Mr. Cayce, but I am afraid I didn’t do a very good job as he didn’t believe any of it. I believe I wrote you about him last fall. I don’t think he would be much help to me so I broke up with him and I believe I did the right thing because I prayed about it hard and gave it lots of thought. I do have a feeling that I was supposed to be a good influence on him, though all the time I was with him, I had a strong feeling that it was all happening for some purpose, so in my questions I asked about him, and I do hope the reading will explain to me about him.

R10. 4/22/44 EC’s letter to [1968]:

Dear Miss [1968]:

Thanks very much for yours of the 15th.

I am glad to say that I am feeling very, very much better and I hope to be able to carry on.

Sorry to hear that your grandmother is not so well. I do hope that she will soon be much better. I trust that we will be able to get the reading for you at the time set, and that it may be of a real help. I believe it comes up Monday, if I remember correctly.

I am very sure your own conscience is the best guide in such matters, for unless there can be that constant sincere desire for a unity of purpose, it’s a hard enough problem at best, and without that unity of purpose, it would be really a problem. I am sure everything will work out alright.

GD’s note: [1968] letter to [264] dated May 7, 1944 “Today I received a letter from Mr. Cayce saying that they were unable to get my reading on April 24th as planned and that they were making a new appointment for June 19th EWT between 10:30 and 11:30 AM. He said they were mighty busy trying to keep up with the mail and getting ready for Congress.” Then he added: “You will be here won’t you? We will expect You.”

R12. 5/7/44 Miss [1968]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Thank you for your letter of May 3rd giving me an appointment for June 19th. I notice that will be during the Congress. I would like to be there but don’t believe I will be able to make it this summer, as I understand that civilian travel is to be restricted in June. I certainly wish you a very successful Congress this year.

I don’t suppose my reading will be given publicly during the Congress. Will it? It just occurred to me that I used two people’s names in my questions and I would prefer to have my reading private if possible. However, anything you do about that will be agreeable with me because I am so anxious to get this reading and I appreciate your working me in because I know how far ahead you are booked up.

Please let Gladys read this letter so she can disregard my last letter to her.
