This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, in Pinewood on Lake Drive, Va. Beach, Va., this 29th day of March, 1932, in accordance with request made by his mother, Mrs. [2110], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. EC: Yes, we have the body and those conditions as surround same, [2155]. As we find the conditions, there is an incoordination especially in the sensory and impulsive forces or nature of the body, as related to the cerebrospinal system. The condition, as we find, in its inception, is that primarily of a biological, as well as actively psychopathic, condition.

2. These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [2155], we are speaking of:

In the activities of the body, as we find, there is in the physical that, while it may not be termed a normal growth physically, yet so near in this respect and many another that it may be said this, then, is a mental rather than a physical; yet, as we find, as given, the biological - as we give - is that there are those hindrances in the entering of the impulse from the nerve systems of the body to the brain reflexes, through the glands and lobes at the base of brain, that go in such a manner as to not receive the proper distribution, or - as may be termed - the proper play upon the impulse chords that form for the functioning or reaction to the impulses of the brain’s force action. While we find, as in the physical, that the brain - as matter, physically - has its near normal development; while, true, there are not as many of these corrugations or indentations in same as would be where impulses have had their reaction upon the brain matter itself as it has developed in the physical forces of the body, yet these the circulatory system - as far as that as is related to the blood stream itself - as being at most periods near normal in its flow, though to some portions of the head and the organs of the head these do not ALWAYS respond, and the impulse or the pressure that exists in the axis and in the 2nd cervical show how an impingement - as we find - makes for this deflection.

4. Then, as has been given, if this - then - is the biological condition, how - or what is the psychopathic effect of same, and how does it affect the body?

5. As is indicated from the very type of the pressure itself, as we find has been since the first of the presenting of the body at birth itself, the near normal in some respects of presentation would not indicate - but, as is seen from the manner of the delivery, and the pressure as was created, especially in that portion of the body - as it was of the nature where that lasted for a period - this caused a drying, or an effect that produced this condition. Now the whole of the pressure is as not allowing a normal flow through this portion or impulse. Hence we have the psychopathic, or the effect of an injury, or biological or pathological condition is produced by the psychopathic and the biological condition - see?

6. In the cause, or FIRST cause - these would be, to be sure, of a different nature; but to meet, or to add that which would in the present be of aid and help to the body in reaching that where aid might come to the body, and in time bring more dependence to the body physically and mentally, these - as we find - may be materially aided. First, as we would find:

We would use that of the percussion in the cervical area, as is applied by those of the school of correction of those characters of impingements in any vertebrae in the system, and this is for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cervical vertebrae. Following each treatment (that is, aligning, see?) use that of the magnetic application, the right hand to the base of the brain and the left hand to the face proper - or frontal portion of the brain, holding same for twenty to thirty minutes each treatment.

8. We would also apply the Radio-Active Appliance, which is that of the low form of electrical vibration, each evening or night - as the body sleeps - that carries that of the Chloride of Gold solution in the vibration of same; and when making the application, apply the first anode (that carries the Chloride of Gold solution in the vibration of same) to the 1st and 2nd cervical vertebrae, and that WITHOUT the solution (last applied to the body) at the secondary cardiac plexus area, or in the 3rd and 4th dorsal plexus. This we would apply for thirty to sixty minutes each day.

10. In the manner of applying those vibrations of the Radio-Active Appliance, this - as we see - is BUILDED in this manner:

That of life vibratory force in electrical vibration is of the LOWEST electrical vibration, that that builds for active forces or principles with that that is of the highest known vibration in a human body. Now the active forces of these are built from the elements that make for an electrical activity in those as make for the variations in the temperature of elements, and in their application to the high vibration produce - by that being built up with the elements in which, or about which, this is held in its active forces, and produces then to the body that of an impelling force as may be seen by the test - after the first or second application - that there is a scarcely perceptible, but gradually increasing change in the pulsations for the body, which makes for - or is - that of a vibratory force or rate as impels first to the nerve plexus, especially to the sympathetic nerve system, of which and through which the activities of same are the most perceptible to the senses and to the active principle forces of reaction from impulse, or the senses of the body, and with the vibration of Gold itself will add to the system. Patience, persistence, consistence - as will the activities of those that apply same, apply that that aids in creative forces becoming active through the elements in the material world, that makes for the active principles of life in its spiritual essence and force.

12. (Q) How often should the percussions be given? (A) This should be used as sensible; that is, necessary that the percussions - or the changes as will come with these - be kept in such a manner as to not over excite the body, but every other day - or at times every day may be necessary, or every third day, or it may be every fifth day - see?

Now, do these - as we have outlined; then we may give others.

R1. 3/30/32 Letter to [2110], [2155]‘s mother from EC:

“Yours of recent date came, and - as you will see from the enclosed - we attempted yesterday afternoon to get the suggestions for improvement of [2155]‘s condition. Of course, it is impossible for me to pass any kind of judgment on the information, or suggestions made, except by comparison with my experiences of the past. I hope, then, that you and the Doctor will go over this very carefully, and prayerfully, in the light of your own experience, and if there is one whit of light please know that it is our sincere desire to go farther and farther with this - if there is any chance of our being of help. I know much of this may sound very crude. I realize that I have been lacking very much in my education and training, but I am hoping that in your case - as in so many hundreds of others - there will be something to give you and the Doctor some light for benefits to your son.

“The battery (Radio-Active Appliance) that is suggested is only made here. I will be glad to have one prepared and sent to the Doctor without charge, and will explain as best I can just how it is supposed to affect the system. The usual charge for this type of appliance is $20. Please understand, I am not trying to induce the Doctor to subscribe to anything he doesn’t find worth while, but we have had some most wonderful results where this appliance has been used with other suggested treatments for the improvement of individuals. If the Doctor doesn’t think it is worth trying, why don’t think I am going to feel hard about it - but it is my whole hearted desire to be used, if possible, for aid to others where seemingly nothing can be done.

“After you have read and studied this carefully, I will appreciate your letting me hear from you. I think you very, very much for your letter, and I certainly hope we may be of some aid.”

R2. 4/7/32 Father, Dr. [539]‘s letter:

“My wife Mrs. [2110] has turned the correspondence she had with you relative to our son, [2155] over to me to read and to go over with her. I am glad to thus make your acquaintance and wish to say right here that I thank you very much for your interest in lending yourself to the task of bringing about healthy conditions in our son.

“I also thank you very much for your offer to send me one of your battery appliances. I shall use it and endeavor to take hold of your ideas expressed in your reading in connection with its action, and reaction to come as the result of its use.

“I have begun to use the treatment, as outlined - percussion of 1-2-3 cervical for purposes of alignment.

“The magnetic application of right hand to base of brain and left to face. Have not been able to use this length of time that you suggest (20 to 30 minutes), because of the lack of cooperation and tiresomeness.

“I want to assure you that your mode of approach appears to me as most valuable and scientific and hope to be able to learn more and more from you as time goes on.

“Mrs. [2110] joins me in again expressing our respects and appreciation.”

R3. 4/12/32 Letter to Dr. [539] from EC:

“I have received yours of recent date, and I am today sending to you one of the batteries with full instructions as to the use of same. These batteries have been given for a number of years through our information, just how to construct them and what they are supposed to do for individuals when applied. It has been said new nerve tissue might be enlivened, and even brain tissue aroused, with the use of these. We have not been able to check very closely with the results obtained save while the hospital here was open. Also in a few cases where the appliances have been sent to physicians to use on the patient while taking treatment in their office. These reports have been more than satisfactory. As an illustration: Just yesterday I had a report from one who has been using a similar battery for his son, for infantile paralysis, [Case [949]?] together with other massage treatments from time to time. They have been using this now for two months. The limb has not only shown signs of life and use, but has grown three inches in circumference during that period. Though he had not been able to walk without a crutch for a number of years, he has been able to walk as much as fifty feet or more in the last week without the use of any support. I understand, this is an entirely different condition from that of your son, but also the applications were entirely different.

“From Mrs. [2110]‘s letter, and also from yours, I feel that you will give this every opportunity possible to demonstrate the help that might come from the use of such information. I hope that you will feel and know, as you apply this, that there goes with it a sincere desire from a man who is striving as best he knows how to be used as a channel of blessing for someone. I have nothing to sell. I’m not trying to exploit myself, Doctor. So I hope that prayerfully, consistently, persistently, we may work together, you using the information whenever you see fit to try to bring the rightful heritage to your son.

“May I offer this suggestion, Doctor? I may be just as far afield as anything could be, but would not Mrs. [2110] be able to give the magnetic treatment - even better than yourself? There must be something in the theory of positive and negative. To the young man you are the positive force and his mother the negative, though he may not know it. I’m sure you realize this. I merely offer it as a suggestion.

“Now I am hoping that you will keep in touch with us just as often as it is necessary, and that you will not hesitate to have a check-up at any time to see just what the information may be able to offer as help, as the applications progress.

“Appreciating your letter, and with kindest personal regards to yourself and Mrs. [2110], hoping that we may be of some service, I am”

R4. 4/12/32 GD’s memo as to: DIRECTIONS FOR RADIO-ACTIVE APPLIANCE FOR [2155]:

1. Fill a one or one and a half gallon stone crock with cracked ice until about the depth of the height of the appliance. Then add cold water until it reaches a level of about one-fourth inch from the top of appliance. Do not let water get over the top of the appliance.

The wires can be attached before appliance is put into the jar, but do not let the plates touch each other.

2. Allow the appliance to remain in the ice water about fifteen to twenty minutes before attaching to patient.

3. Attach anodes or plates to parts and in the way given in the reading. In this case apply each night as the body sleeps. Apply the first anode (that carries the Chloride of Gold solution) to the 1st and 2nd cervical vertebrae, and that WITHOUT the solution (last applied to the body) at the secondary cardiac plexus area, or in the 3rd and 4th dorsal plexus. Apply for thirty to sixty minutes each day.

4. Keep anodes or plates clean by use of a piece of fine emery paper. Detach wire after using, wipe water off of appliance and put away until ready for use again.

DIRECTIONS FOR MAKING GOLD SOLUTION FOR BATTERY

Enclosed with the battery is an ampule of 15 grains of Chloride of Gold. Add to this 15 ounces of laboratory distilled water. This can be obtained at a drug store, or from a pharmacist - and should be kept in a glass container.

The small glass jar should be filled to almost the top with this Gold solution, and the lead wire bent in the form of a U and inserted into the Gold. The cork with the grooved sides should be inserted in neck of bottle, the lead wire extending out through the grooves. Be careful not to let this solution touch anything, as it is caustic.

After each treatment the lead wire should be removed from the Gold solution and cleansed thoroughly by rubbing lightly with the emery board. The plates that are attached to the body should also be gone over lightly with the emery paper after each treatment, to keep them thoroughly cleansed, so that perfect contact can be made.

R5. 4/15/32 Mother’s letter to EC:

“Your very kind letter received together with the reading for [2155], and I turned them over to Dr. [539], and he has just returned them to me together with your letter received yesterday - saying you were that day mailing one of the batteries to us - for all of which I wish to thank you sincerely. Your kind words of desiring to help [2155] and us and we do appreciate this desire from the bottom of our hearts. Only those who have suffered as we have, through the suffering of one most dear to us, or them, can appreciate what it would mean to find help and relief for them. I prayed before [2155] was born that I might be a worthy mother. I have had the opportunity to test my worthiness. We shall be faithful in carrying out the instructions that have come from you. Dr. has been using the magnetic application the right hand to the base of brain, etc., but since receipt of your last letter I have started to use it and will be faithful in its use. I think the Dr. only held it two or three minutes. Your instructions say 20 to 30 minutes. I applied my hands for 15 (as [2155] is not very good about sitting still so long) but I think I can gradually increase the time.

“Now I wanted to ask you to please send us another application blank (or a few more if it is permissible). I wanted the Doctor [539] to have a reading as his health has not been RIGHT for some time. He said he would write you - but as he is very deliberate about everything, I thought I would make the request, as it might hasten matters a few days. I have also turned your little booklets over to a friend who has a brother the Doctors have failed to help, in fact they say there is no help for him. I thought it might benefit him to get a reading from you. Will you kindly tell me what difference there is in the three different readings you give? I think marvelous things will be coming to pass in the next decade and thank God for people such as you whose whole heart and soul are put upon God’s altar to serve suffering humanity, for if we look around us, we see that it is suffering today - but we have the promise of Jesus Christ, that greater things shall be done, and grant God we are on the eve of that.

R6. 4/19/32 Letter to [2155]‘s mother from EC:

“Yours of recent date has just been received, and I hope you have received the little battery (as we call it) before this. The information has termed it the Radio-Active Appliance. I trust that you and the Doctor had no trouble in understanding the instructions for its use. You realize, I am sure, that such conditions are of necessity a little bit slow at first in response, especially where you have something of an antagonism to overcome; but I pray and trust, and sincerely believe that - like so many other mothers - you are going to see some wonderful results, and I pray God that may be true.

“We have quite a demonstrative case at hand, where the information has suggested that the magnetic treatment - with other things - be applied in the case of an epileptic. She is here in Virginia Beach now taking treatments. She is a very lovely girl, of a very lovely family - one of the old families of Virginia - but for the last ten years she has been afflicted with this dreadful disorder. The parents have exhausted almost every resource. About a year ago they turned to this information. The first reading indicated that unless some desperate measures were taken there was little hope for her ever being better. The attacks gradually grew worse and worse, until her mind was seriously affected. Then we began with the treatments which she took several months before the magnetic treatments were suggested as being of material benefit. The first eight days were fierce, when we were gradually getting her off of the - what shall I say - dope? but since then, for the last five weeks, she has gradually grown better. [See 543-18 Reports.] While the attacks are not entirely gone as yet, they have changed in their character, are very slight, and not more than a third or a fourth as many as formerly. I merely give you this specific case because it does seem so marvelous. Of course, I take no credit for myself. The one applying the treatments deserves the greater. Also some credit is due, I am sure, to the concerted efforts of our prayer group; for each day when these treatments are given - at 11:30 o’clock, for a half to three-quarters of an hour, there is continued prayer from the whole group. If you are able to give the treatments for [2155] at 11:30 each day (which, I think, would be 10:30 your time), and you desire that we include [2155] in our supplications - and also you, for your strength

• we will be glad to do it. Please understand, we are not asking you to join in something unless you feel we are sincere. We want nothing but to be of help. That I am sure you recognize. May we be able, through our concerted prayer, to aid you in having more strength, more fortitude, more patience, more power, in Christ’s name!

“Should there be any questions about the appliance, or about the application of the magnetic treatment, please don’t hesitate to ask them. We sincerely desire to be of help in bringing aid to you, if possible.

“I am enclosing the applications. To be sure, for the Doctor

• or any member of your immediate family - a physical reading could be included under your membership, which would only make it 10.00. For any other family, of course, it would be the regular 20 membership, which would carry with it the privilege of a reading.

“Mrs. [2110], I know you have been a student of this thought for some time. I am wondering if you would like to see some of the lessons, or data that the study group is preparing for distribution? A little later, if you find this of interest

• and find that you are able to get results for your own family - you may want to become the leader, or the teacher, of such a group there. I’m merely asking; not trying to induce you, please understand. I certainly hope that should you desire to have a reading for the Doctor, or any other member of your family, we may be of some service to you. I certainly appreciate your letter. It is such letters as this that make us determined to go on, even though many obstacles are often put in our way. Our wholehearted desire is to be a channel of blessing to our fellow man, in His name. If we may, I am sure many things that have been amiss in us will be forgotten; “for as oft as ye do it unto one of the least of these, my little ones, you have done it unto me”.

R7. 4/22/32 Father’s letter to EC:

“Thank you for the battery equipment. It reached us in a very good condition.

“I used it for the first time the night of April 20th to 21st at 12:30 A.M. to 1:30 A.M. At 3:00 A.M. [2155] had a convulsive seizure and at 7:00 A.M. he had a second one.

“Last night I used it at 4:00 A.M. to 4:25. He slept all through and has felt fair all day so far. I am also giving him daily his other treatments: a) spinal stretching to cervical vertebra to produce normal alignment. b) Percussion to same area for stimulation. c) Magnetic application of hands to neck and forehead by Mrs. [2110] (as you suggested).

“I will keep you posted of our progress from time to time. In the meantime - Thank you again.

“I am also enclosing an application for membership and a reading [See 539-1] with a check for $10.00. Mrs. [2110] says that is the right amount.”

R8. 4/23/32 Mother’s letter to Mr. Cayce:

“Your very marvelous letter to me received this morning. I can only say I appreciate it with all my heart and soul and may I say that it is my sincere belief that only through metaphysical work the problems of disease, whether physical, mental or material will be met. When [2155] was 6 years old and we had an Alienist (?) examine him, he turned to me and said ‘Mrs. [2110] I might just as well tell you, there is not much chance for your boy to be normal; he is a borderline case and you might as well put him in a group school with his kind.’ I listened to him, and said to myself ‘no - my God is a good God; this is my child and I’ll keep him with me & ask God to show me the way.’ Twice I was forced to send him away from me; twice again he was put away without my knowledge - but God was good, for I have never weakened & have continued to seek help for him. It has meant a life of practically giving up all personal desires, but although it has cost me much anguish and physical depletion, it has been and is a labor of love with me, for I would feel that my life had almost been in vain if I could not be able to help the soul I had given a physical temple in which to express the real man. I shall be so happy, so grateful to have your group include [2155], myself, in fact our whole family in your prayers, for as I say I know that prayer is the great leavening power. My husband, [539] has sent to you for a reading. He is very much interested and very grateful I’m sure. I cannot understand why we are being so held down - Doctor had quite a severe operation on his leg about 2 yrs. ago - and things have not been so well with us. I do not know, but there seems to be a negative force working that we have not been able to dissipate. I do not like to ascribe it to some outside power, because I do not know - and anyway we know that all power lives within ourselves. This household seems to be suffering from physical and mental inertia. Do you know what I mean? And yet I have so much to be grateful for - for altho’ I get very little rest and sleep, I have been able to keep going - and best of all ‘keep smiling’. [2155]‘s condition has disrupted the home life quite a bit

• has interfered with the other two children having company and different privileges - but on the other hand it has given them an insight into things that probably could not be acquired any other way. My husband seems to be very tired both mentally and physically - but I know we must carry on, and I want to know the best way to do it, the God way, and I do not believe that means the way of terrible effort - but means harmony and fulfilled good desires. All my life I have wanted to help others - sometimes I thought that was why [2155] came to me, but everything has become so involved and I sometimes just close my eyes & say: ‘Well, dear Lord I’m just so tired - I don’t seem to know what to do with all my problems anymore. Just take care of me,’ but then I say, ‘all of us.’ Now I have rambled on & suppose I could for much longer but I want to thank you again for the Battery and tell you about [2155]‘s reaction. First I must tell you that [2155] has improved since he was a little boy, because from a very violent disposition at times, he has developed into a reasoning mind, so far as behavior is concerned. He will say, ‘I’ll please you Mamma,’ but one question he will ask, ‘Why can’t we do what we want?’ Of course I reply, ‘We can so long as we want to do good or normal things.’ So I have succeeded in getting his cooperation to a great extent, because he wants to be normal and he wants to please me.

“After I had written you [2155] was fine for almost 2 weeks

• then the first night we tried the Battery he had two convulsions, but he acted the night before as if they were on the way, so I don’t think it was the Battery that caused them, but he had been so nice I wondered if you had been praying for him. I am asking you in His name to pray for me and this little family group that has been given me to Mother on this earth plane and may I say I consider it a great blessing that I have been privileged to contact you and the wonderful work you are doing for God’s children.

“I would like a reading too Mr. Cayce and would ask you to advise me which would be best - the one that would help me to understand just why things are as they are and how I can best help to straighten them out happily and successfully for everyone. [See 2110-1.] My health has not been the best but I attribute that to the long years of anxiety and disappointment in getting anywhere. I should say noticeably

• because I know we are always building. I want to see some results from my inmost desires to be of loving service to those I contact. I cannot let go of the promises He has given us. This morning I picked up my little “Runners” Bible (which I often do during the day) asking for inspiration for the moment. There I read on the first page I turned, ‘The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace,’ and again, ‘Be not afraid or dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but Gods.’ So it is - not my battle but Gods, & I only ask for enlightenment how to fight the good fight.

“I shall be so happy to have the lessons you speak of. May I say again I appreciate your work and kindness to its fullest extent - even though I may fail to adequately give full expression.

“Sincerely and Gratefully with all good wishes to you and yours, I am,”

R9. 4/25/32 Edgar Cayce’s letter to [539]:

“Many thanks for yours of the 22nd, with the report on [2155]. I certainly hope it will not be a great while before you will see a decided change in him. The young lady here [543] [See 543-18 Reports.] - whom I told Mrs. [2110] about, is doing wonderfully well. She had been suffering with convulsions for ten years or more. I just hope and pray you will see the same results with [2155].

“I feel that I would like to get a check-up on [2155]‘s condition through the reading, to see if there are any suggestions for changes - or just what, if anything, is taking place, according to our information. Will it be satisfactory with you for us to get this on the morning of May 10th, Tuesday, between 10:30 and 11:30 Eastern Standard Time? That will give you time to see if the stretching, percussion, and the battery, is making any definite change in his condition - and you can submit a list of questions to ask. Let me know if this will be alright. From the interest I feel in his condition, I would like to do this.

“We also have your application, and we are making this appointment for the morning of Tuesday, May 3rd, between 10:30 and 11:30 o’clock Eastern Standard Time. Please let us know if this will be satisfactory, and just where you will be during the hour set [See 539-1]. Also send any other questions that may come to your mind regarding your condition.

“Mrs. [2110] asked for an application for a friend, which we are enclosing herewith.

“I certainly hope we will be able to offer some suggestions that will be of help to you. I appreciate very much your cooperation in following the treatments for [2155].

“Just this morning I had a report from a man in New York, whose son has been suffering from infantile paralysis for several years. His lower limb has recently grown three inches in circumference, and he has been able to walk without support several blocks. [See 949-3 Reports.]

“Hoping to hear from you right away, and with very best wishes for you and yours, I am”

R10. 4/28/32 Father’s letter to Mr. Cayce:

“Thanks for your letter of the 25th. It is a source of satisfaction to have your interest and cooperation. [2155] had a convulsion on the morning of April 26th, about 7:30 A.M. and about 3 hours after the battery treatment. He seemed somewhat dazed yesterday. He cooperated nicely with the battery treatment last night. That is, he reacted kindly to the disturbance due to attaching the metal electrodes and went right back to sleep.

“I have frequently said that the healing of anyone else implies the healing of the healer as the first step in the process of producing improved conditions. I admit that such a statement requires considerable explanations as to the factors involved and the why and wherefore of them.

“To be a little more specific I must say that I refer to myself. I have looked for sometime into the processes of causation and believe that I could satisfactorily defend the position and teaching that ‘one’s environment and circumstances are self-creating and a reflection of one’s inner self,’ even tho’ one may be ignorant of this situation or may thoroughly deny it. [2155] is certainly part of my environment and is subject to the principle referred to above.

“‘One’s enemies are those of one’s own household,’ the usual medical training is not conducive to produce that peace and strength of mind that would show itself in a 100% successful healing power. We cultivate limitations at every step. Of course this is not the only source for them. The common experience with the facts of appearances is still a prolific source for doubts about end-results, etc.

“I appreciate the need of help daily. ‘To lift my eyes up unto the hills,’ to expect new, sound, health and success bringing ideas coming as a gift from the great source of supply, is one of my constant activities. To be able to see the healthy, perfect son clearly and convincingly is one of the goals to be attained by me.

“I have given a continuous search after ‘the truth’ in order to become enabled to take the inharmony and conflict out of conditions as I meet them. It becomes gradually a matter of more than commonplace if one can grow to the point where one can make one’s convictions proof themselves for truth must always be ready to do this. But I don’t want to enlarge too much on this phase of my problem. I did so mostly to make it one of the questions which I would deal with in connection with reading that you have set for May 3rd at 9:30 to 10:30 Central Standard Time. I shall most likely be at my office at that time. [See 539-1]. I shall probably comply with your suggestion and send you further questions relative to my problem.

“I am appending copy of diary about [2155]‘s progress. I just started keeping this record in order to be able to make a more consistent report to you. Here it is.

“APRIL 29-32: Battery treatment at 12:00 midnight. Had convulsion at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

“APRIL 28-32: Had convulsion at 11 a.m. Complains of pain in left leg (thigh). Has had 5 to 6 convulsions during last 24 hours.

“Came down to office at 1 p.m. Gave treatment.

“APRIL 30: Lies on couch and complains of feeling dizzy - pain in left thigh. Had battery treatment during night at 5 a.m. to 5:45. Slept thru treatment - No convulsion since 11 a.m. Friday 4/29/32

“Kindly tell me about the connecting posts on the battery. Which electrode goes to the centre post?

“Yours of the 22nd and 23rd were received. From the experiences we have had through the thirty odd years with this work, I feel impelled to say, Doctor, that I feel you and Mrs. [2110] will get some wonderful results in [2155]‘s condition - with the cooperation you are showing, even though the progress may seem very slow and some very discouraging conditions may appear from time to time. I can truthfully say that out of the many thousands who have had dealings with this work in the years past, none have failed to get results who have cooperated with the information - that is, they have gotten the results promised through the reading.

“Please accept my thanks for your cooperation and reports. From these reports I feel all the more certain that it would be well to check-up on [2155]‘s condition from time to time, through your asking specific conditions - or specific questions concerning specific conditions at such readings. This will enable us all to understand much better the forces with which we are dealing. We often wonder just why everything that might be said could not, or would not, be said at one reading. Our experience has shown us that had such been the case in many instances we would have been so discouraged or disturbed as not to be able to go on. As grace in the Father is a gradual growth so is our understanding as to how He works through the many channels that may be made manifest by His believing children in this material world.

“We are enclosing the information gotten at your appointment [539-1]. I do not think I am capable of making any comment on this. I am very sure this is not a physical diagnosis. I am just hoping you will understand the information, for I admit I do not. It is very beautiful, but I realize that many things beautiful are not always very tangible for us to put to material use. However, I am hoping there will be something in this that will enable you to see what the higher forces have reference to, and that may enable you to apply it in your life so as to bring everything necessary for carrying on and bringing much good in your present experience. I’ll certainly be very glad to have your comment on it, and I want to thank you again for the wonderful cooperation of yourself and Mrs. [2110]. To know that you are finding some cooperation from [2155] makes me feel that there is some power working in this condition which we are not at all times able to understand.

“[2155] had a rather stormy time over Sunday. Yet on Monday he felt a little better. I haven’t given him any treatment during the night with the battery, because I discovered that the battery does not show any current, and has probably not been in action from the very beginning. Kindly enlighten me on this point. I have already asked you to enlighten me as to what post to connect it. Although this letter will not reach you in time to include the answer about the post, yet I felt it desirable to know your opinion, and instructions in this matter.”

R14. 5/6/32 Edgar Cayce’s letter to Dr. [539]:

“I have yours of the 3rd, with the report on [2155]. Our experience has been that after about a week to ten days of the magnetic and battery treatments there comes a period of severe strain to the patient, but afterwards a gradual improve.

“The battery, as I have said, is an appliance which has been formulated through the readings themselves. It does not of itself show any discharge, but when attached to the body does show a change in the VIBRATIONS accorded through the system. This may be detected most in the pulsation and the reaction to the nervous system. Naturally, when altering the vibrations, there might be expected a period, or periods, of excitement to the whole nervous system.

“As you can see from the reading itself, the anode which carries the gold solution would be attached first to the 1st or 2nd cervical vertebrae (that is, the plexus where the pulsation and the nerve plexus enters the brain). The other anode would be attached last to the 3rd and 4th dorsal plexus center. Here you see, Doctor, that you have a nerve plexus center that is to be acted upon by the change in the vibration created through the battery itself. That which creates the change, of course, is the manner of construction of the battery and the elements within the battery being acted upon by the cold (from the ice). It makes a skip, as it were, between the connection at the 3rd and 4th dorsal center to the 1st, 2nd or 3rd cervical center, and may create at times a reaction that would seemingly be more exciting to the body; yet with the magnetic applications - or the quieting effect that would come from the mother applying these treatments - will make a proper coordination.

“I hope this is understandable. Our experience has been that wherever these have been given most beneficial results have been obtained. That’s another reason why I feel it is so very necessary to have a check-up on [2155] which we have set for next Tuesday. At that time we will see just what may be said. Should there be any questions you would desire to have asked at that time, please make note of them. It is our sincere desire to be of help. We are not trying to induce you to subscribe to anything that you don’t find helpful by actual experience; but, as I said in my last letter, wherever we have had the wholehearted cooperation in carrying out the treatments the results promised in the readings have been received.

“I thank you very much for your letter, Doctor, and I certainly hope that we may be of aid to you and yours.

R15. 5/7/32 Edgar Cayce’s letter to Mrs. [2110]:

“Your letter of some days ago was received. I asked Miss Edmonds, the secretary of our prayer group, to read your letter and to write to you. That is the cause of my delay in answering. I hope it will be convenient for you to give the magnetic treatments to [2155] at the 11:30 A.M. meditation, which I think is 10:30 A.M. your time. If this is not convenient, possibly you could give them at 5:45 P.M. (4:45 P.M. your time) when we have another period of meditation. Whatever time is most suitable for you, if you let us know, rest assured the whole group will cooperate with you in every way possible to try and bring the best results. We have found these treatments to be most helpful here. Some very marvellous experiences have come to us all. We know they are not of ourselves, and we sincerely believe God is just as willing to listen and speak to us as when He spoke to the patriarches of old. I’m sure you believe the same yourself.

“If my letter has been of any comfort, or gave any hope, I am very thankful. Our whole intent and purpose is to be of service. I know full well just what your feelings were when you were told your child would not be much better. I do not believe anyone knows just how to appreciate such an experience unless they have had one similar. Some eighteen years ago our oldest boy had the misfortune of getting his eyes badly burned with flashlight powder. The whole profession told us nothing could be done; in fact, after the sixth day they told us they must take out one eye if he was to live or have any chance for sight in the other eye. Though he was only six years old, from some intuitive force, I presume - when he was told by the physician that this must be done - he said, ‘No, Doctor. My Daddy when he is asleep is the best doctor in the world! and he will tell you what to do, and you will do it, won’t you Doctor?’ He is twenty-four now [25]! has finished college, and is devoting his life to this work. He is not a medium, but is making a very systematic study of the phenomena, hoping to be able to give it out to those seeking the truth that has been the experience of hundreds, yea thousands, during the years. That we are thankful is only putting it mildly. I merely give you this instance, Mrs. [2110] that you may know I can fully realize what it must have meant when you were told there was no hope. There IS hope in Him, for He doeth all things well, and He knows what is best for each and every one of us. If we will but open our lives to His mercy and some understanding of His mysteries and laws, He WILL - and CAN - give us those things that will magnify His love and glory in our lives.

“I am quite sure we do not ever want to magnify the power of material influences. We may know they are existent. Denying them DOES not lessen their power, but magnifying the spiritual does lessen their power. That’s where faith has its opportunity of making the knowledge of God more effective in our experience. Hence our faith is not always the blind thing some would have us believe, but ‘What ye ask in my name, BELIEVING, that ye shall have.’

“The Doctor’s reading a few days ago [539-1] was very unusual to us. It did not take the ordinary course of procedure, nor dwell at all upon the physical, but I am certainly hoping he will find something in it of a lasting benefit. I’ll be very anxious to know his reaction. I certainly have appreciated his letters and reports from day to day on [2155]. I hope I made the explanation about the use of the battery sufficiently clear for him to grasp the idea, and that he does not stop the use of this until he has at least given it a fair trial and test. Such conditions as he described one day have been our experience in most every case of this nature, but when that period has passed the gradual development toward a better condition has always heretofore been the result.

“I hope we may be able through our concerted prayer to enable you to draw on that universal strength and power that will keep you smiling. Though you may be weary in body, may you be light in the love of the Master, and may there be constant joy in your heart for the privilege of giving light to a soul that has possibly been bonded in some other experience. We work out our destinies through His love. His life and His suffering give us a pattern to His aid and love. Through our prayer to God we are given the strength to meet all the trials that may come into our lives of every nature. We are bigger and better for having met them. new souls grow as well under the pleasant things as they do under tribulation, but He has given His angels charge concerning us, lest at any time we falter and fail. If we look up and lift up our eyes and minds unto Him, from Him will come that help to meet the daily emergencies.

“The Mental and Spiritual reading for yourself, Mrs. [2110], might be the best. It would possibly cover sufficient of the physical, if the mental and spiritual had anything to do with the physical. Of course, from the interesting standpoint, and to those who have had considerable study in this line of thought, the life readings are usually the most enlightening. These, however, are of such a condensed nature, as you may well understand, that it requires a great deal of study to make them applicable in our daily life; [See 2110-1] but, as our boy has said often, the life readings seem only too true, and we see ourselves often as we do not like to be seen. We will be glad to make the appointment at whatever time will be most convenient for you. We will no doubt be very busy during the week of the 15th, and possibly part of the week of the 22nd, as we are having to move our place of residence, but any time during the latter part of the week of the 22nd would be very satisfactory. If you will set the time, if it is possible, we will make that fit - but will let you know. You can tell us what type or class of reading you desire.

I’m just hoping you will find some good in all of this, for it has meant - and does mean - very Life itself to so many of us, who have been giving our time to the work for years. “I am in receipt of your literature as per my request and I thank you very much for same.

“My husband [539] and I have been and are earnest students of Truth and of course as such understand the fundamental principles of your work, but who besides an occultist can explain it. Nevertheless we know there is only one Cause and One Power and that evidently is what is working through you in your work.

“I am writing you in regards to our eldest child, a young man [2155] now of 23 years. He has been afflicted since 4 months and although my husband is a doctor and we have done everything that we thought might help - we have had no really tangible results. In fact, it is this that had first led us into the study of Truth in all its different phases. We know there is only one Truth, but many stages that one sometimes travel before illumination and certainty. We believe that natural Law can and someday will explain all that now is not understood.

“I as the natural mother of this boy - absolutely believe that there is help and freedom for this boy - because he was a joyously expected child and my nights were spent in much prayer before he came that I might be worthy to be a mother. Regardless of what I have learned of reincarnation and evolution, the Law of Karma - I believe that that Karma can be annulled when one becomes conscious of the Law of One’s being.

“Your very kind letter of the 22nd just received and I am truly grateful for your sympathetic expression toward us and our seeming affliction. May the clear vision of Spirit enable you to be of assistance to us in bringing [2155] into the Kingdom of his birthright - a perfect son of God.

“In your last letter you mentioned the enclosure of an application blank - but those things are so easily overlooked when sealing letters - so I took my information from the booklets. I am enclosing herewith an additional $10.00 for the membership and privilege of physical reading. Is this correct?

“Yes, [2155] can be reached at home here almost all the time. When he is well enough we take him out for a ride around 3 to 4:30 in the afternoon. He is always in after that in the evening - never out after 6:00 P.M.

“Mr. Cayce your letter is very kind and I am grateful I know you sense that we are devoted parents in fact have been so much so, that our dominant desire has been to find relief for this boy. [2155] was a wanted child. We are married 24 years. [2155] is 23 - we have a daughter 22 and another son 20 and altho’ they were so close together, I never had one thought but welcome for them. After the last one came, in my simple honest way I told God I did not see how I could take care of anymore, but if it was His will, I would take what He sent me. I never had any more and I did feel God had heard that prayer. [2155]‘s condition has made it very hard for the other two, but we try to tell them it has given them many opportunities for patience and understanding; but I guess often they wish it were not so. It has led my husband [539] and myself into the search of Truth which probably otherwise the need for it would not have been so urgent. My husband has been an earnest student of Judge Troward’s works. The Edinburgh Lectures, Dore Lectures on Mental Science, The Creative Process in the Individual, Bible Mystery and Bible Meaning. The Law & the Word, The Hidden Power & Troward’s Comment on the Psalms. He likes Troward’s scientific presentation of these subjects - although I think for the average person it is a little slow of comprehension.

“Now as to any specific questions to ask - I do not know

• only of course would like to know the cause, whether biological or psychic - what can be done & should be for the relief of same. We have been told many things in all these years we have been searching & of course often, that it was Karmic, but if so - Karma too must some day be exhausted and I believe I have already paid thousands of years trying to relieve the suffering of this soul - but I also believe in GOOD and I believe there is just something that will release [2155], if we can just put our finger on that. Just ask that it be explained so the Doctor can understand and instructions given for the treatment. Very often the condition has acted like obsession if I could explain everything to you - but gradually he has learned greater self control and there has not been such a great tendency until in the past week again, it seems to have reappeared stronger than before. He seems to love me more than his father, but I guess that is natural, as I have been with him and ministered constantly to his wants. When he was small he actually seemed to dislike his Father, but the last two or three years, ye [he?] has changed in that respect too. It takes much patience.
