This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 29th day of October, 1929, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [287].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. and Mrs. David Levy, and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 3:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ohio. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here - this we have had before. Now, many changes have taken place with this body since last we had same here. Some that we have had before (that is, disturbing conditions) have again become accentuated, through improper eliminations and through the changes as come with those effects created in the system THROUGH such changes - both physical as relating to the functioning body, and physical as to the changes in environmental forces; that is, in the mental being, and the physical body overtaxing self. [See 287-2 for effects of white lead poison - or lead colic.]
-
To meet the needs of those distresses as are caused through the upper portion of the diaphragm, from that condition existent by the scar tissue produced by internal burns, these - as we find - show as RAW, as it were, and unless alleviation, would cause much distress to the body.
-
We would first use those of the sweat baths, with the properties of the wintergreen in the steam that is to envelop the body; or BATHE the body with a ten percent solution of the wintergreen as it is rubbed down FROM a ten to thirty minute sweat bath.
-
When the body is rested, which should be in thirty to forty minutes after such treatment, apply the ultra-violet ray to the back - especially in that region from the lower cervicals to and below the waist line.
-
Then, following same - after a little rest - with a GENTLE massage over the whole system.
-
This should bring about the proper reaction, alleviating the body from distress and bringing normal functionings for the body. We are through, for this series.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 11/5/29 He wrote: “Rec’d your rdg. Friday A.M. and commenced treatment at once. Have taken four treatments and am very much improved. The reading was my exact condition.”
R2. 11/20/29 He wrote: This will advise you that I am very much better, but as yet cannot walk more than a couple of squares until I begin to feel that pain in my throat - if I stop for two or three minutes it is all over, and I can go on again for about the same distance. By keeping this up for half to three quarters of an hour, then I can walk pretty well for a much longer distance but cannot walk very fast.
However, I am gaining a little every day, and I have taken seven sweats, and the wintergreen treatment as you have prescribed. You did not say in your reading how long it would be required to keep up this treatment until I would be in good health again. However, other than this trouble I am just feeling fine, and Mrs. [2646] says that if she allows me to sit around the house all day, I am all right.
My trouble seems to be a little soreness about four or five inches below the hollow spot in my throat.
Is this trouble in my throat caused by the white lead poison I had some five or six years ago? [287-2?] There is no irritation when I talk or cough, so I would like to know which organ of my throat is affected.
R3. 12/17/29 I have your letter of the 12th inst., and I note that you have been ill and I just hope that his letter will find you well again.
Now with reference to myself, I will not need another reading at present, as we discovered our mistake in the treatment. We were using the Wintergreen, but about two weeks ago we found we were using a substitute for Wintergreen. We then got the real Wintergreen and since then I have improved very fast and the trouble in my throat seems to be about relieved.
Dr. Cooperrider [Geo. W. M.D.] said that the Wintergreen would be hard to get in this town. We called up the drug store near our home and they had the Wintergreen and we called other drug stores and they had it, too, but we found it was only a substitute, and there was just one drug store here in the city that did have a small vial of it, that was Wendt-Bristol’s on East State Street, so the Doctor was all right after all.
R4. 1/31/30 He wrote: It hes been sometime since I have written you. This will advise you, that while I feel just wonderfully well, I still have trouble in my throat when I walk. Can only walk about two squares until I have to stop. In two or three minutes I can go on again all right.
Another peculiar thing about my condition is that I can hold my breath and walk as far as I can, then stop, take a long breath and go on again for about the same distance. If I walk in this way it does not hurt me at all, but if I continue to walk in my normal way for two squares, I have then just got to stop for two or three minutes before I can go on again.
Week before last I was in Indiana, the only time I have been in Indiana this Winter. I stood it pretty well for the first three days, then I had to let up and stop walking, and called my customers and asked them to come to the Hotel.
It is just possible that I should keep absolutely quiet until my throat heals. What do you think about it?
I have had a letter or two from your Hospital, asking me to write them with reference as to how I am getting along, etc. I have not done so as yet. I wanted to get real well so that I could write them a good letter, telling of my past experiences which would be a letter worthwhile to your hospital.
How are the people getting along that had gone there from here for eye treatment? [See Case [2] series.]
Wish you would write me and tell me what you think I should do, to get entirely rid of this trouble in my throat.
With kindest regards to everybody, [287]
R5. 2/13/30 EC’s letter: “I’m glad that Mrs. [2] seems to be on the improve…
“My suggestion would be for you to try that olive oil and saffron tea again. You remember how much good that did you sometime ago? [See 287-1 and 287-2?] I believe it will help you now. If you don’t get results by trying this, let me know by the 24th, where you will be between the hours of ten and twelve on that day, so we can try to get it in at that time.”
R6. 2/22/30 He verified the appointment, saying:
I have been feeling very much better and spent four days in Indiana this week. Last evening I had a bad attack. Dr. Cooperrider thinks I should have you inquire about my heart condition, also my dentist says that I should have three teeth extracted - the three upper front teeth. Dr. Thomas John Thomas, M.D.] of this city is, too, of the opinion that there is something wrong with the condition of my heart. Dr. Cooperrider wants your advice on the heart and also the teeth. The trouble in my throat seems to be all right; that, as you remember, was my first trouble; otherwise I am just feeling fine; appetite is good; there don’t seem to be any trouble with my stomach at all.
R7. 2/24/30 EC gave 287-8 advising to keep up the saffron tea and olive oil, also to take osteopathic treatments, as well as having digitalis under physician’s direction, also teeth attended to; that it is NOT an organic heart condition.
R8. 11/13/30 He reported on 287-8, saying: “The first trouble that I had last Oct., a year ago now, was altogether different. It then seemed to be in my throat or windpipe, and my stomach seemed to be out of order, but the saffron tea and olive oil and other treatment that you prescribed at that time did relieve that condition entirely.”
